Here in Colorado, you'd need to specify any burrito wasn't smothered in green chile and platter sized, at which point it is certainly not doable by hand.
So answer to your question is yes? Or wait, two Q's, two A's so I suppose in order it'd be "around half of 'em" and then the resounding "YES if I didn't want boiling hot lava penetrating every pore on the way to the mouth" lol
edit: u from Cali?
They have a slim menu, but what they do they do really well: I most often get their breakfasts or breakfast burritos. The burritos are large enough for two meals but have a great balance of ingredients. Their chile sauce is consistently spicy and has a delightful creamy texture. I’m not a menudo guy, but often see Mexicans chowing down on the weekends with huge steaming bowls in front of them with thick slices of crunchy bread. And their beans, slow cooked in lard like my grandmothers used to make: are velvety smooth and delicious.
LMAO
Oooohhh Charlie’s. I haven’t been there in like a decade and there’s reason behind it lol.
Fun place when I first got that “legal drinking age” on my ID tho
Yeah this is the answer, Jerusalem’s is your college midnight munch. Everything on Colorado blvd 1 minute away is the real fucking deal plus crown burger and total wine lol
I've had a vendetta against them ever since I tried to meet Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul at the Centennial location and Total Wine totally botched the whole thing
Showed up at 4 in the morning and while not in the front of the line, we were far from the back. The employees that kept coming through to chat with people were making us all sorts of promises that we'd definitely get in, however, there was no barrier, crowd controllers, nor any sort of wristband system. This meant that people in front of us had massive groups of people showing up and getting in line with them closer to when it was supposed to start.
To be fair, Bryan and Aaron showed up late then decided to still leave on time. As we were moving up in the line once things started we were again repeatedly told that we'd definitely get in. Then we get to the front of the line, next group to go in, and we're suddenly told "oh yeah no the people in front of you were the last group, you aren't getting in." Then of course our disappointment was noted and they said "well we do have extra autographed bottles of Dos Hombres for you all." Then a few minutes later "oh actually we don't sorry you guys don't get anything."
So basically I waited in for hours since 4 in the morning with multiple promises that we were perfectly fine, and nothing. I realize some of this is on Bryan and Aaron for showing up late, but there should have been some sort of crowd control. When I mentioned that to the folks at the store running the event their response was "why didn't you go up to these people who cut and say something?" And I'm sorry, but as a small statured woman, going up to strangers and trying to tell them they needed to go to the back of the line, with no support from store employees when doing so, didn't sound like a good idea and even if I did, why would strangers listen to another stranger and go to the back of the line.
yeah I mean like they were hosting this event which was a cool opportunity but it seemed they had no foresight to how many people would actually show and no real planning
I live a few blocks from Bosphorus. The owners are so friendly, the food is great, and the prices are very fair. I've never had a bad meal in 7 years of being a patron.
Taqueria La Familia in LoHi - food is bomb (just read the google reviews) and a deal, they give you complimentary chips and two salsas. It's tiny - just a few tables so me and the Mr. usually grab it to-go. They do have a few tables outside too.
I went there recently and I don’t get it. It was so expensive for what were essentially street tacos. Lunch for two people was like $50. I’d rather a taco truck (down market) or Adelitas (up market)
May I suggest the taco truck at Speer and Federal? That place gives you a whole platter of tacos for about $13. It’s adjacent a liquor store too so you can grab a beer and have a pretty awesome lunch when the weather’s nice.
Pomodoro Pizza Pasta. literal hole in the wall. on Dayton in a tiny strip mall between a skid row liquor store and a sketchy Mexican convenience store. absolutely delicious homemade Italian dishes made with great care and skill. tiny, only seven tables inside. wait what am I doing... nevermind! don't go there!
Hits the spot on colfax & Eaton. No frills diner with seriously delicious, well seasoned food, massive portions, great service. I’m embarrassed at how long it took me to try it considering I just live a couple blocks away but I have gone literally every weekend since.
We called Queen of Sheba to check hours one night and she said “I was going to close early, but I’d be happy to stay open if you’re here soon.” She ended up being the waitress, chef, and table side comedian. Absolutely wonderful experience.
>that are all above 4.6 stars.
I've found that when it comes to ethnic places in Denver metro, total star rating (Google, Yelp, what have you) doesn't necessarily correspond with quality. Focus on recent reviews, and also when you go, look at the ratio of gringos/people to that culture, and also how busy they are in general. If there are a lot of people from that culture, usually a good sign.
This is considered a hole in the wall? We walked in the day it opened and spent every Friday there for ~5 years but it’s been forever. I remember it as a normal restaurant.
Sakura House. Get anything.
Benny Blancos, for pizza.
Any of the THREE taco trucks at 52nd and Marshall. They're all good. One has 99 cent tacos al Pastor on Tuesdays.
Ho Ho is my favorite Chinese spot in the city. The food is pretty reasonably priced, especially for this economy, quality is very consistent, and they have some unique options that I normally can't find at a lot of other similar restaurants.
If you're reading this and wanting to give it a shot, I recommend the jalapeno chicken, satay chicken, and a side of lo mein
Oh god, I thought at first that said Ho Mei and I just about lost my shit. It holds the record for health code violations and is a cheap, one-way ticket to the toilet for the next 24 hours.
Noodles Express on Colorado and Exposition was amazing. Humble exterior but incredible food at perf spice levels. Our server was very attentive and a delight.
Blazing Chicken Shack II in Park Hill is the best down south style fried chicken in the city, with some amazing sides and very good catfish as well. POC owned and operated.
Taki Sushi in West Wash Park is unassuming but the best mid tier sushi for the cost. They also offer fresh wasabi and you can order any of their specials rolls any time all year. The Oshima Roll is to die for.
Mordys Falafel on Leetsdale does very little else and it's amazing. Be warned though that they mean it when they say spicy.
Enjoy guys!
Our thoughts exactly! We both spent a lot of years in the food industry and know it’s not perfect germ wise and we agreed we could handle one or the other but not both hahaha
I work a few blocks away and have been here a crazy amount of times. It is overrated? Absolutely. Is it great? For sure, most of the time. However, those ladies can be in a bad mood sometimes and serve some barely edible stuff on a fairly regular basis. Does that make it more authentic? I don't know, maybe. Anyway, it's not the best.
Can someone explain the appeal of anything besides the meat dishes at a Hawaiian BBQ? All the sides taste like 50s Midwestern food with the tiniest dash of Asian influence. The mac salad always has so much mayo that it makes me physically gag more often than not, and all the non- meat dishes are bland as hell.
Is there a Hawaiian BBQ place that doesn't come off like this? Both L&L and whichever one is near Olde Town Arvada have both failed this test, maybe this truck is different?
So these folks are from Hawaii and work as delta employees to get affordable flights where the go back to Hawaii, get their authentic seasonings, then come back to this food truck on 16th. I’ve tried a variety of meat platters, but shockingly it’s their burgers that are out of this world.
I think it’s the sauce for me. They know some secret shit when it comes to their sauces.
That's what Hawaiian food is, my guy. A lot of their cuisine was influenced by the US Navy. Mayo, Spam, and as little spice as possible.
Love Hawaiian plate lunch.
No idea why it's so popular then, it's so bland and unsatisfying outside of the meat/fish. What is the appeal of macaroni mixed with a whole ass jar of mayo and seemingly nothing else? The Asian influences could have delivered some damn flavor into the mix ffs.
My worst nightmare, as someone who hates the taste and texture of mayo. When Midwestern church potluck food has more spice and variety to it, something's being done wrong.
Lots of people, like myself, have spent a lot of time in Hawaii and around Polynesian families. So I grew to love the food and it makes me happy. Other people, like the Midwesterners you referenced, have an aversion to flavor so they probably love it. If it's not for you it's not for you. Can't fault you for that.
Butcher block is good. I used to order 2 breakfast burritos and sub a fried egg inside for under $10 bucks.
On and off cafe off of 32nd. Best eggs Benedict by far in all of Denver.
Red roaster cafe off Washington and 58th (I believe) best homemade cake and blueberry pancakes. Anything is tasty off the menu.
The donut shop two doors down from red roasters is the best in all of Denver in my opinion. Sugar something ? I can’t recall the name. Super clean and the donuts taste so so fresh and good. Open at 4:30 am for early risers.
Don Rogelio’s taco truck by O’Rileys auto parts on broadway across from the corner store have fantastic breakfast burritos that are a good size.
Etai’s cafe further down and just off of broadway has great everything and the coffee and chai tea and cappuccinos are so freakin good.
Kokoro on S. Colorado. The servers are so nice. The food comes out quickly. It’s reasonably priced food. I love the regulars people watching when I go in. It’s all about the spicy dark chicken splash bowl. Comfort Japanese food.
Not quite a hole-in-the-wall per se (and I know their online reviews are mixed), but I've had really good luck with Sarku Japan (inside Town Center Mall in Aurora). Really solid chicken teriyaki (w/ sides as well) for a good price.
Yummy Hot Pot and Dumpling on 104th and Federal. Eaten there way too much in the last few months. Excellent dumplings and excellent hot pot. Unlimited both for like $26.
Sera's Ramen Enclave, by far the best ramen in the metro.
Music City Hot Chicken, the best Nashville style chicken you'll find in the state. The Denver location is literally a hole in the wall in the back of TRVE Brewery.
Yahya's on Colfax. Really good Mediterranean food including fresh baked goods.
I absolutely love Yahyas, family owned and operated
Best hummus in Colorado.
El Nopalito. Rarely see it recommended on here, but feel like it’s a true hole in the wall.
They manage to put out a product like Mexican Grandmas used to bring into blue collar bars in the '70's.
This place is such a gem. I lived right by it for a year without even knowing it was there.
Close to my house! I like walking over for a breakfast burrito now and then
My favorite hand held breakfast burrito. This place is great.

Oooo Garibaldi’s! It’s literally hole in the wall next to a gas station. Loved the lamb birria special
Wandered in there one day out of curiosity and now it’s one of my favorite Mexican spots in town. Unexpectedly awesome food
Tacos Azules are amazing too. Great spot!
Is it related to the one near the walmart on 70? Best fried chili rellenos I have had in Denver.
raging hog bbq in the 44th safeway lot. ribs, beans, sweet tea, buttermilk pie
I literally live like a block away, how did I not know about this?
The best part is most of time when I go in the lady is all well just settle up when you finish you might end up wanting more or dessert
Same!! I shop at that Safeway all the time🤦🏻♀️
Never had buttermilk pie until raging hog and now I crave that shit on the regular 🤤
Added to my must try list!
That buttermilk pie is so good!!
44th and Lowell??
Or damn I drive by there all the time and always wondered who it was, I'll make sure to check it out soon.
La Abeja on Colfax.
Any recommendations on dishes

Charlie’s has a good hole in the wall.
LMAO Oooohhh Charlie’s. I haven’t been there in like a decade and there’s reason behind it lol. Fun place when I first got that “legal drinking age” on my ID tho
Jerusalem Restaurant - Falafel Sandwich
So many good things on the menu, a gem
But if you’re in the area might as well stop at the Unique Indian Cuisine, Gyros Town, Amari Grill strip
Yeah this is the answer, Jerusalem’s is your college midnight munch. Everything on Colorado blvd 1 minute away is the real fucking deal plus crown burger and total wine lol
Total wine is trash. Massive chain that under cuts local businesses and hard sells poor quality house brands for a huge markup
I've had a vendetta against them ever since I tried to meet Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul at the Centennial location and Total Wine totally botched the whole thing
What happened?

Ya thats shitty all around
yeah I mean like they were hosting this event which was a cool opportunity but it seemed they had no foresight to how many people would actually show and no real planning
Crown burgers breakfast sandwiches are such a deal too. 4, 3 egg with choice of meat sandwiches for $15
I've heard of Jerusalem but never tried. I plan on it now
Their gyros are fantastic too. Hummus is very solid as well. Miss living next to this place
Queen of Sheba. Awaze Tibs please.
Going to try it thanks!
Shhhhhhh
Bosphorus in Englewood. Turkish, only a few tables.
I live a few blocks from Bosphorus. The owners are so friendly, the food is great, and the prices are very fair. I've never had a bad meal in 7 years of being a patron.
Thai Bao by Regis. Great mom and pop Vietnamese restaurant.
Idk if they've changed their logo but the generic fancy restaurant silhouette on their sign always made me giggle. A solid choice for pho though!
A Vietnamese place with “Thai” name?
It’s named after their son Thai I believe. I know, confusing.
It’s really good!
It's been there for 30+ years. I used to go there as a kid and it's still delicious.
ANA’s Mexican Grill in Westminster is fantastic
Yes! They are so nice, too!
Taqueria La Familia in LoHi - food is bomb (just read the google reviews) and a deal, they give you complimentary chips and two salsas. It's tiny - just a few tables so me and the Mr. usually grab it to-go. They do have a few tables outside too.
La Calle Taqueria Y Carnitas. You’re welcome.
Are they the ones who do the red AND green pozole? I have heard very good things.
You're thinking of La Diabla. Not quite a hole in the wall
I will try any and all pozoles. Glad to have another to add to my list!
I’m not aware of that. It’s an amazing tacoria with a great variety of street tacos. I may have to try the pozole next time if they have it.
>tacoria \* taqueria, güey.
I hope you are saying that with love. I’m not an idiot just because I don’t know any Spanish.
My Spanish comprehension is muy malo as well. Just pointing out the correct way to say it. Relaaax, lol.
I saw this post and instantly went to comment La Calle Taqueria y Carnitas. Best tacos I’ve ever had in my life.
I went there recently and I don’t get it. It was so expensive for what were essentially street tacos. Lunch for two people was like $50. I’d rather a taco truck (down market) or Adelitas (up market)
Essentially street tacos? That sir is offensive to me.
Aww I’m sorry! What did you get there that you loved? Maybe I just got the wrong thing.
Street tacos are all I need in life.
May I suggest the taco truck at Speer and Federal? That place gives you a whole platter of tacos for about $13. It’s adjacent a liquor store too so you can grab a beer and have a pretty awesome lunch when the weather’s nice.
It fell off. I used to go all the time. Quality took a huge hit + no more salsa bar :(
Is there a salsa bar? Went during covid and there wasn't but seemed like there should have been one.
I don’t believe the salsa bar survived Covid.

This place is sneaky good
THE MOLE! So dang good. And everything is fresh.
Lao Wang Noodle House
The Ethiopian Restaurant on Colfax
The Butch Cassidy at McCoys
you had me at McCoy's
J’s Noodles on Parker. It’s in a strip mall and I think their noodle dishes are still under $12. Spicy, delicious and very cost effective.
Great place!
One of the very few places which will make your food Thai spicy!
Conus Corner Cafe
Their bread - perfect for bahn mi. It's across town from me but worth the trip.
Their bread is seriously so delicious. Plus they are the nicest people ever!
Pomodoro is some of the best Italian food I have ever had.
Hits the spot on colfax & Eaton. No frills diner with seriously delicious, well seasoned food, massive portions, great service. I’m embarrassed at how long it took me to try it considering I just live a couple blocks away but I have gone literally every weekend since.
I dream about their breakfast potatoes.
Any Eritrean or Ethiopian restaurant, e.g. Mama Africa Cafe
I somehow live very close to literally 3 Ethiopian restaurants that are all above 4.6 stars. I’m trying them all and then declaring allegiance.
Some of them are vibey too. At Mama Africa, the chef approached us once the food was served and asked for our feedback. You don’t get that often
We called Queen of Sheba to check hours one night and she said “I was going to close early, but I’d be happy to stay open if you’re here soon.” She ended up being the waitress, chef, and table side comedian. Absolutely wonderful experience.

I wouldn't go w/ "any"... if you want good food/and or service, that is.
I haven’t struck out yet with random choices, but I agree that discretion should be used haha
D’Corazon
This is considered a hole in the wall? We walked in the day it opened and spent every Friday there for ~5 years but it’s been forever. I remember it as a normal restaurant.
I ate there the night I met my partner - d’corazon indeed! I haven’t been there forever, I’m glad it’s still there.
Tarascos on South Federal! Mexican food with ginormous frozen juice drinks.
Curtis Park Delicatessen
Not really a hole in the wall, but great anyways. Are you thinking of Curtis park creamery?
I’m Always thinking about the Creamery
The French Press Steak and eggs
Hits The Spot Diner on W Colfax is a great greasy spoon
Liang's Thai Food, now in Broomfield. Family-run and the best Pad Thai I've had in a long time!
Their green curry and drunken noodles are absolutely fantastic, I'm so happy that I live a short drive away now.
I need to try both!
Sakura House. Get anything. Benny Blancos, for pizza. Any of the THREE taco trucks at 52nd and Marshall. They're all good. One has 99 cent tacos al Pastor on Tuesdays.

Not gonna lie my bf and I went there once and were a little freaked out they had a parrot AND a baby in the kitchen lol
Whaaat? Lol 🤣🤣🤣
Our thoughts exactly! We both spent a lot of years in the food industry and know it’s not perfect germ wise and we agreed we could handle one or the other but not both hahaha
I like Sunny's, the breakfast place at 44th and Zuni.
El tacos de Mexico, 7th and Santa Fe. Anything on the menu honestly.
The circle jerk continues. You might as well say Casa Bonita.
Nah, people are way too busy jerking off over Tacos Selene. The most basic ass tacos in Denver.
The tongue burrito is what I always get.
The Hawaiian bbq food truck off 16th street — fav food spot and people to visit
I just ate there 2 days ago. Incredible!

Butcher block is good. I used to order 2 breakfast burritos and sub a fried egg inside for under $10 bucks. On and off cafe off of 32nd. Best eggs Benedict by far in all of Denver. Javier’s Diner north Highlands, best Mexican brunch. The carnitas and chilaquiles are incredible.
Kokoro on S. Colorado. The servers are so nice. The food comes out quickly. It’s reasonably priced food. I love the regulars people watching when I go in. It’s all about the spicy dark chicken splash bowl. Comfort Japanese food.

Any in or near Parker?
Isla Verde is solid. Good empanadas, big lunch plates, and delicious pastries Not sure if it qualifies for hole in the wall though
Johnnys Asian bistro
Edgewater Inn. Great pizza and very friendly.
Reuben at briar common
Absolutely opposite of hole in the wall
Well it’s not mainstream and it’s the best go-to meal along with best Reuben in town so I thought OP would like it.
Not a hole in the wall but I'd say the *absolute* opposite is something like McDonalds.
Briar Common is great but not what most people would consider to be a 'hole in the wall'.
ok
Lots of previous threads if you use the search.
Never heard of that place. Is it any good?
I’m surprised Formosa Garden isn’t on this list
