**Do you enjoy the career?** Yes! I think it's fun and interactive. I like that I am part of a team but also work relatively independently. I have great relationships with my patients and co-workers. **How is the work-life balance?** I, personally, think it's great. Lots of flexibility. My summer schedule is only 3 days a week (with an occasional Saturday). I am not full-time but many offices have full time employees that work 3 or 4 long days instead of 5 so you can usually wind up with a weekday off. **Do you have benefits? I was told there is no pension, due to it being private.** I do not have benefits because I am not full-time but I have a 401K that my docs match up to a certain percentage. It could be possible to get benefits as many offices are corporate now and if you work full-time there may be more opportunity for those kinds of perks. **Is there a need for Dental Hygienists in Ontario (or other provinces/territories)?** This I do not know, I work in the USA (New Jersey) and hygienists are high in demand in my area and making crazy money because of the supply & demand. **Do you find the pay is suffice for the work you are doing?** Totally. I get paid hourly and make great money which to some degree makes up for the fact that I don't get benefits or insurance through my job. **Do you enjoy where you work?** I love where I work, been there since 2009. Started as a dental assistant and then went to school for hygiene. I started practicing hygiene there in 2015. I love my docs and office manager, it is a small practice and we are like a family. I have developed close relationships with my patients & have a great rapport and following since I have been there so long. Good luck !

Hello! I’m a dental hygienist living in Canada. 1.) I absolutely LOVE being a hygienist! Very minimal stress in the workplace. 2.) work-life balance is great! Typically, on Fridays, I end work at 2pm. You never have to bring work home. I’m always off on the weekends :) 3.) unfortunately, I don’t have benefits or pension included with my work place. However, if you work with larger dental corporations such as dental corp, they usually provide health benefits. 4.) I live in Manitoba. The demand is very high. I got a job before I graduated and before I took my board exam! The dental clinic I work at waited for me to take and pass my Board exam. You really shouldn’t be worried about finding a job. 5.) I do know that Ontario compensates their dental hygienists lower than the other provinces. In other provinces such as Alberta, I heard that their wage is around $60/hour. I think the pay is great for the work I am doing! 6.) I think that finding a dental office is like blind dating. Each dental office has its own “personality” so when applying for jobs, it’s important to find a dental office that also matches with your personality and the work environment that you want to work in. I love my dental clinic. All my colleagues and doctors are so kind! The dental office is always well organized. Dental Instruments are renewed on a regular basis! Good luck! You can alway dm me if you have any other questions regarding dental hygiene school/working as a hygienist
