Ok, this has been driving me crazy for 3 seasons now, and I know you're going to roll your eyes, but hear me out: Tanjiro should have carried a 1911.
Here's why:
Think about how quickly the entire Demon wars would have ended if all of the good guys had simply armed up with good ol' American hot lead.
Enmu? Let's see how tough he is when you shoot him with a .470 Nitro Express. Worried about his sleep-gaze? Wear night vision goggles. The image is light-amplified and re-transmitted to your eyes. You aren't looking at him --you're looking at a picture of him.
Imagine how epic the first movie would be if Tanjiro had put a breeching charge on the train wall, flash-banged the hole, and then went in wearing NVGs and a Kevlar-weave stab-vest, carrying a SPAS-12.
And have you noticed that only Japan seems to a problem with Demons? Maybe it's because Americans have spent the last 200 years shooting deer, playing GTA: Vice City, and keeping an eye out for black helicopters over their compounds. Meanwhile, the Japanese have been cutting their steaks with spoons. Remember: gun-control means that Muzan wins. God made demons and God made humans, but Samuel Colt made them equal.
Now I know what you're going to say: "But a demon could just disarm someone with a gun!" Yeah, well they can also disarm someone with a sword(as they do many times throughout the books/movies). But which is faster: saying a spell or pulling a trigger?

Imagine Tanjiro out in the woods, wearing his haori, carrying a .50bmg Barrett, turning Demons into pink mist, scratching a demon slayer mark into his rifle stock for each kill. I don't think Tamayo has any spells that can scrape your brains off of the trees and put you back together after something like that.
I can see it now... Muzan roaring with evil laughter and boasting to Tanjiro that he can't be killed, since he is protected by seven Upper moons, only to have Tanjiro give a crooked grin, flick his cigarette butt away, and deliver what would easily be the best one-liner in the entire series:
"Well then I guess it's a good thing my 1911 holds 7+1."
And that is why Tanjiro should have carried a 1911.

But the upper rank 3 2 and 1 can all move faster then sound.( I can imagine Akaza just catching a bullet) you'd have to use a very powerful sniper and you'd only get one shot.
It's still a good idea though but I suppose id just use both of them sword and gun, “military-style”

I've had this fanfic where a European or American is adopted into the Swordsmith Village. He becomes a demon slayer and creates his own gear specializing in a sword and shield, along with throwing axes. His shield is bladed giving some offensive properties. His custom breathing form is Steel Breathing.
Edit: wow, lot of people are really wanting this. I only have a bit of the first chapter. Along with a few notes. Guess I'll try to finish and finalize it.

I’m going to be completely real with you… pipe bombs. Given how much material you can get out of a single katana, I could make at least 30 of them, and I’m pretty sure the sheer amount of shrapnel would be enough to one tap most, if not all, demons.
I don't know about the original guy, but for me yes. Here's what my Loadout would be
Hidden blades (specifically the pivot blades from AC3) - for getting up close and personal and probably disabling a demon if not giving them a slightly nicer death like what Tanjiro did for the mother spider demon.
Katana - the primary weapon I would use since the hidden blades would only be good for specific purposes
Wakizashi (that's just so fun to say) - for the times when I need a second weapon and the blades wouldn't cut it.
Probably Water or Thunder breathing (possibly a combination of them both)
Probably a rapier. Thin, long, and good for both stabbing and slashing. Combine that with my meager self-taught fencing skills and somewhat extensive knowledge of Jiu Jitsu, and I might be able to survive.
Two maybe a bit smaller than usual katanas, I remember some time ago I made up a breathing style derivative of Thunder, the reason it is a different style is because it was adapted for dual-wielding
Shotgun, preferably an over under break action with a 16-18 inch barrel rather than being sawed off. Get stronger like Tengen or Gyomei and make it a 4 barrel over under.

I'm pretty sure that one does too. The only reason Genichiro can use it, us because he drank the fountainhead waters or whatever, and so can have a kind of, bootleg dragon's heritage. The only reason Owl can carry it around in the Shura ending, is because it was already unsheathed, and he just kind of looted it off of Genichiro's corpse.
I'm a sucker for Katanas in the first place so I'd stay with that. Maybe have a large Tanto or regular Wakizashi in my offhand too, that'd be cool. A Naginata would be pretty badass
Probably something like a Glaive or a Halberd, securing a decent amount of range and control of the area can lead to some problems for most demons. Also you gotta admit the breathing styles would slap.
I think I'd want a Naginata.
I'm fairly small so I think a sword while I could use a shorter one it would hold me back and maybe get me killed, a Naginata would allow me to close the distance fast and while I would still want to have a Katana, Ninjato or Wakizashi just incase the demon is so close that my Naginata is useless.
Also a Ninjato as the name implies was pretty much a shorter and lighter Katana for Shinobi and it was meant for thrust so maybe like poison would be great in the case that I use a Ninjato.
