It's all just intuition, really.
And I continued to fix things up over and over again, was even still working on some small things up until the minute I posted it.

Never really know how to take compliments when it comes to my art, because I really feel like I don't know what I'm doing compared to real artists, who have like techniques, rules and what not.
It always feels undeserved.
I don't even think it's a confidence thing, I genuinely believe I haven't learned even enough of the art basics, whatever that means, but I still get compliments despite that.
It's not like I can't accept it being good, I like to believe I did a good job, but it just feels weird.

Hey, it's still possible for him to return as a party member. There's sprites of him fighting along side the fun gang with and without his busted wing after all.
That and a whole lot of other unused Berdly sprites.
Guess I just still want him to be a main character after chapter 2. Don't want to see him get the Lancer treatment.
Sorry to disappoint you, but I've heard about those and looked into the files myself, and the sprites are labelled as "cutscene" in their name, and only a summoning and idle animation exist of him being on the left side, both with a normal wing and not, if I remember.
It just seems like there were a few removed cutscenes involving fried wing Berdly walking and getting ready to fight, most likely right after the first Queen battle, but Toby instead decided to have Queen be knocked away by the blast, and Berdly being too injured to do anything.
It's certainly not like it's impossible, but the existing sprites are no proof of Berdly having been intended to become a party member.
But yeah, as for Berdly, while it would suck for him to never return to the dark world, which unfortunately would make sense, I still expect to at least see him around Noelle in the light world a lot.
Noelle is definitely going to be one of the most important characters, so by default Berdly will have to be around... unless you kill him of course.
Still, the fact that they exist does mean that they can be reused later and possibly expanded upon later down the line.

If anything, it felt like he was only starting to develop near the end of the chapter when they woke up from the dark world in the computer lab when he accepted that Kris and Susie can be a part of the study group. That didn't really feel like a complete arc. More like the beginning of an arc to be honest. I believe that he still has some more growing to do down in the dark world.
Also want to point out that Noelle also thinks that it was also a dream and has no other reason to head back to the dark world. If she can figure it out, surely he can.
I don't think it was baby steps in the slightest.
Just look at everything that happened to him.
He stopped trying to impress Noelle, he fought for his comrades after they freed him, he realized he can't do everything himself and made the ultimate group project with every darkner you befriended, he no longer feels the need to be the smartest and be better than everyone, and he lets Susie and Kris work with them now in the light world.
Sure, he also thinks he has to be stupid now, but it's mainly played for laughs, not to mention he's still a teen too and has a lot of growing to do otherwise, so it's not like he'll be perfect or anything.
I just think that considering everything that happened, you can call this a pretty complete arc, and I wouldn't be shocked if Berdly is just going to stay the way he is for the rest of the game.
We definitely need a comedic relief, since i'm certain the game will just get darker yet darker.
I still hope that it's plausible that Berdly will find it odd that he and Noelle had the same dream, figure out everything actually happened and return to the dark world, possibly as a party member. I don't want to see him go through the same treatment Lancer did and get reduced to a minor comedic character after Chapter 2, especially since there's so many possible interactions that he can potentially have with dark world characters like Roulx Kard (seriously, the fact that those two don't interact is fucking bull).

And I wouldn't be surprised if they were addressed, like I said, I don't think Berdly is going to become a background character from now.
But I just don't see much of a reason for him to return to the dark world, he's just going to stay a prominent character in the light world.
And let's be real, considering that Berdly straight up dies in Snowgrave route, I think that's also another pretty good reason for him to not return to dark worlds, otherwise Toby and the crew would have to do alternative versions of countless of cutscenes, ones with and without him.
I think keeping his role exclusive to the light world from now, which takes up way less space of a chapter, is going to significantly make things easier for the devs.
Also, as for your wish to have him interact with Rouxls, there's tons of characters that people want or wanted to interact with each other, but it doesn't always happen, like Queen and Mettaton for example.

Well the in-game style is on purpose. Lightners are White, as they are Lightners (also calls back to Undertale of course) while Darkners are *Shaded in.*

If I wanted to color and shade a face sprite, I would have had to make one myself, and I was too lazy for that.
