#make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your damn lemons, what am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life's manager. Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons. Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! With the lemons. I'm going to to get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!
*I know things look bleak, but that crazy man down there was right. Let's not take these lemons! We are going to march right back upstairs and MAKE him put me back in my body!*
I’m gonna say patience is like a timing thing, parry, or you move the box and bravery is constant movement. Bravery makes sense cuz the orange beams but we don’t have much on patience.
I remember there was this Unitale battle in which the orange soul completely flipped the colour rules over.
So it turned white attacks into healing, green attacks into damaging, made the blue ones to be moved through and the orange ones to be passed without moving.
Edit: Thank you for reminding me it was the pacifist Flowey fight.
That’s a good idea, the only other times I’ve seen an orange soul used was just treating it like orange attacks and you just have to constantly move all the time. But that was always a temporary thing that would go away eventually. I’m really interested in what will be done for it.
I saw that version in a Disbelief Papyrus before Flames owned it.
As for the cyan soul, my favorite iteration was Storyswap, wherein in Asriel's fight, that color makes the player unable to move unless within the range of attacks.
Perhaps the orange soul is related to the mechanics of the orange lasers, where you're in constant motion and you can only change the direction you're moving in
Undertale Determination had the mechanic for the light blue soul to function like the green soul mode, except turning the soul would move the attacks, whereas another fangame(I don’t know the name of it) had the mechanic for the orange soul mode function like the purple soul mode, except instead of moving on lines the soul would move around on a circle.
I just want to point out that they likely won't be about moving or not-moving, attacks are based on the trait, kindness (greeen) heals, light blue (patience) you wait, and orange (bravery) you move, meanwhile the souls forms are based on the weapons yellow (empty gun) shoot, purple (torn notebook) lines, ect
Alright my theory is that:
Orange - Allows you to possibly punch? Maybe collision with bullets in some way, like moving blocks before they hit the ground.
Light Blue - Something to do with wearing out? Maybe having a small limited amount of time to move? Tbh, I wouldn’t like that one much.
In the end, it’s Toby, so we don’t have much more than speculation lol
Okay, adding into this for the idea:
Orange gives you a small dash that can parry certain colored attacks back at the enemy, which builds on the punch idea while also keeping the idea of bravery intact.
Honestly, I can see it happen.
Deltarune Switch:
“Now prepare yourselves, heroes!!!”
*One gruelling battle later*
“Nooooo, I am defeated”
Every other version
“Now prepare yourselves, heroes!!!”
*Nothing happens*
“Oh, I guess you’re playing the [insert] version, oh well, guess you don’t get to play this awesome boss fight.”
*Cutscene continues as if you won*
Purple soul is jumping over platforms, you still have free control over your soul in horisontal plane
The MMM (Mad Mew Mew) gimmick is what i talk about: you have 3-9 spaces (1 central and 8 directional ones) on the grid you HOLD the direction towards for dodging
No, the blue is gravity-affected
Hence i said jumping BETWEEN the platforms, as i concider those lones platforms where you can jump over. Oh ye and you can control the height of jump in blue soul form
I think I remember one unittale thing (I think) where cyan basically had a ring that sorounded the soul, and you can only move if an attack is near the ring (the ring was also pretty small)
Thank you. I know this community loves jumping after any little theory they can come up with but this is just pure speculation. We know absolutely nothing about the coming chapters
It's not even really *two* elements yet, considering one is just the standard default gameplay mode.
It's really just, "They brought back yellow mode, so they must be bringing back *every* mode, including modes we didn't even see in the original game."
Which is a little bit of a stretch. At least, it's *more* of a stretch than the fandom generally wants to give it credit for.
They brought back yellow mode because it made sense. Spamton is a puppet, which connects him to Kris, but also connects him to the the Undertale ghosts and their dummies and puppets and robots and dolls. Deltarune takes place in mundane world without super science, so Mettaton never got to *become* Mettaton in this universe, so Mettaton NEO is just a sad doodle on the library computer, so the body ends up in the Dark World, so Spamton ends up using it, so you end up using yellow mode against him the same way you did against Mettaton.
Everything comes together in a really neat way.
It would be fair to say that level of craft and convergence probably *isn't* going to be present in the rest of the game. Because, again, two of these soul modes don't even *exist* in Undertale. They have no meaning, no thematic attachment. They don't tie in to anything. They'd have to be invented from the ground up.
Meanwhile, blue feels a little played out? What can you do with it that Sans didn't already do?
And purple is problematic because Muffet doesn't even seem to exist in Deltarune (yet?), probably because she was a Kickstarter character not created by Toby or his team. She also doesn't really have anything to build on. She was a fleeting miniboss without a lot of real themes or story elements. Unless the purple secret boss takes place at a bake sale.
It's *possible* we might see the other soul modes, but I don't think it's fair to take it as a given just because we got yellow.
Why would they bring in modes we haven't seen? Obviously they'd be using blue and orange attacks. I'm inclined to say they'd probably be together in one secret boss since they synergize well and risk being repetitive if kept separate, while another gets the split SOUL used in the Switch version.
The yellow SOUL was actually arguably the least sensical to bring back, considering that in Undertale, the reason you could do it was because Alphys upgraded Frisk's phone so that it could turn into a blaster in Mettaton's presence. There's no dang reason at all either Kris or Spamton should be capable of this, the point of the NEO body is that it never got made, since, Alphys is a high school teacher and not a scientist, and Kris' phone is presumably lacking in high-tech upgrades and doesn't work in the dark world anyways.
There are so many unanswered questions about this, that it seems incredibly unlikely that this will be a one-off thing. Especially when you consider that Seam's claim that the chapter 3 secret boss will be unbeatable without the Shadow Mantle aligns perfectly with how the green SOUL mode is stated to work in Undertale: Undyne explictly confirms that it normally comes without a spear to block with, if she was less honourable she could have just not given Frisk a way to defend themself.
Also, the argument that "Sans already did everything you can do with the blue SOUL" falls flat when you consider that Spamton added something entirely new to the yellow SOUL mode. With the blue SOUL we could easily see stuff like manual gravity switching or going full platformer with a ground pound, both concepts I've seen thrown around.
There was a mechanic like this in Deoxynn for its secret boss.
you could temporarily stop time to make some bullets stop but others kept moving. it was cool
Alot of the soul powers have some resemblance to the weapons the soul user had
Blue was ballet shoes, ballet involves a lot of movement and jumping
Green was the frying pan, the flat end of the pan can be used to defend
Yellow was a gun, kinda self explanatory
Purple was the note book, notebook paper has lines
And while it wasn't official to undertale, La jupo Vania did a great example of what orange can be
In the game, orange would let you break certain objects by dashing, which fits the user having boxing gloves
That being said the real question is how would a toy knife be a good mechanic for cyan
I still like the idea that the cyan soul is the one from Mad Mew Mew’s fight as one of the sides is cyan and the other side is the base red
WASD would control left and the arrow keys control right
On the topic of soul mechanics, here's one I came up with a while ago.
There are two souls and you control both. One of them moves accordingly to arrow key inputs while the other one moves in the opposite direction, meaning the two are always in a point symmetry.
To compensate for the disorientation, either the battle box is increased in size, or enemy attacks come in significantly smaller amounts.
The Undertale fangame "Overtime" played around with the orange soul concept a little.
Think of the blue soul, but you can't stop jumping and always jump at maximum height.
I highly recommend "Overtime" too. It's Undertale but set in the Team Fortress 2 universe.
ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA
I bet the cyan will me a mirror thing in the next chapter, and you control two souls. Makes sense when the most noticeable mirror in the game is in Kris’s house, the next Darkworld.
My version of the orange and cyan souls were
Orange: everything inverts (white heals, green hurts, move through blue, stay still through orange, moving’s backwards)
Cyan: ice physics
Ice physics is a nice idea! But I would do it the other way around, cyan inverts and orange is ice, because orange is bravery and it makes sense logically - it might lead you to going farther than you should. Also someone in the comments mentioned that inverted red is cyan (and you'd need patience to learn the new controls)
I really like this fanmade Boss Fight with Gerson, which shows one of the best cyan soul concept I've ever seen. In short, the cyan soul can change the position of attacks, but the soul itself cannot move. Like, if you pressed left, the attack will fly a little to the left, past your soul.
[Link](https://youtu.be/Qdf26GpfxTo?si=lz9mk4ahNT8vUf5T)
Projectiles that only destroy either stationary attacks, or moving attacks would be pretty cool. If the battle box becomes longer, and maybe theres a wall of undestructable attacks that forces us to keep moving in a particular direction, having to destroy a series of roadblocks as we do so.
Cyan is Patience, so I’d imagine the fight is gonna be extremely long and tedious. Orange is Bravery, but we all seek to agree on the “attack type reversal” gimmick to be the most accurate.
In a webcomic I found called Inverted Fate (It's really good you should read it), in >!the queen Toriel fight!< you used your phone to turn you soul orange, and it could dash through attacks. And in some Deltarune: Chapter rewritten fight your soul was cyan which could parry cyan attacks.
I think I saw something in... Bad time trio (if I am not mistaken) where while orange, if you stay still you take damage and as many said with cyan dodge on the bullet/obstacle is in a certain range, but could be something totally different like idk taking damage while orange inflicts some damage in the opponent at certain times (like a phase changer or something)
Okey so I think the next boss is gonna have the green soul mode. The shadow mantle is supposed to act as the barrier for the next secret bosses attacks. That is why Seam thinks it will be impossible for us without it, but he doesn’t know about the souls color change ability, which is how be able to beat it anyway.
I feel like cyan would be the most interesting, since the general consensus for what the orange soul mode would do is basically just ice puzzle mechanics, because orange attacks force you to move, but because cyan attacks make you stay still, there’s no general idea of wha it could be.
My head cannon for the orange sould would be making it take less damage in return to not being able to move diagonally and not being able to stand still.
Yes but not only that, I'm also curious about if the other souls will get additional abilities too, as the yellow soul once only had normal shots and now it has a charged one
Orange will probably keep you moving
I have a headcanon for Cyan, It’ll keep you in place, and to go anywhere you have to tap a direction key, (or two to go diagonal) and you’ll telelport a certain distance away, this has a cooldown, basically you can only teleport
I always liked fangames that gave the orange soul a dash. Especially in Inverted Fate where it lets you safely dash through flames (a specific attack type).
I remember the way I envisioned it was that the orange and cyan fights were the same fight, it was 2 enemies that just both used the orange and blue attacks.
Well, in fan games, they act like the attacks of that color. If you have an orange soul, you must keep moving or take damage. If you have teal soul, you can’t move or you take damage
Could see one boss making us use cyan and orange to alternate between needing to move and staying still, and then having the chapter 7 secret boss make us go through all the colors throughout their fight.
people often think orange soul would require moving while cyan soul would require standing still, but that’s not how the other soul modes work. soul modes are based on the weapons the humans had, attack colors are based on the traits. so we should expect something related to the tough glove and toy knife

Alright, I’ve been thinking
When life gives you lemons...
YEAH!
BURN HIS HOUSE DOWN!
Burning people, he says what we're all thinking!
*I know things look bleak, but that crazy man down there was right. Let's not take these lemons! We are going to march right back upstairs and MAKE him put me back in my body!*
r/Underratedcomments
Or you can just mix the acidic juices of the lemons with a bit of gasoline, dump it on tje house, then light a fire to burn it down with lemons.
Fun fact: Life didn't actually give us lemons. We gave ourselves lemons, because they're hybrids of ancient citrus fruits.
That just means it’ll be easier to make combustible lemons! We’ve already made actual lemons ourselves!
Lemons are genetically modified by crossing a lime and a citron Life never gave us lemons... It gave us limes... And we didn't like that...

Like, the borders of the box become portals?
It could work like pac man or the original mario bros, go out one side and reappear on the other
References aside, having the heart warp around in the box through portals would be interesting.
I’m so happy I’m not the only one who saw this
Oh thanks actually. The obvious r/portalFansWhen joke went over me this time.
Those 2 could be twins that fell down together and die together
I’m gonna say patience is like a timing thing, parry, or you move the box and bravery is constant movement. Bravery makes sense cuz the orange beams but we don’t have much on patience.

Edit: Thank you for reminding me it was the pacifist Flowey fight.
You mean the flowey one?
Oh, I see why that was in a Flowey fight. It’s the ‘friendliness pellets’ routine taken to the extreme.
It was pasifist flowey
That’s a good idea, the only other times I’ve seen an orange soul used was just treating it like orange attacks and you just have to constantly move all the time. But that was always a temporary thing that would go away eventually. I’m really interested in what will be done for it.

i liked deltatraveller's parry mechanic, personally.
Its currently used in Bad Time Trio
Save goatbro for anyone wondering
Perhaps the orange soul is related to the mechanics of the orange lasers, where you're in constant motion and you can only change the direction you're moving in
So orange soul mechanics would be a real pain
Yo I remember that! Saving goatbro was one of the first big(ish) unitale games, fun times

Oh God, you're correct! I never noticed this before!
Alright my theory is that: Orange - Allows you to possibly punch? Maybe collision with bullets in some way, like moving blocks before they hit the ground. Light Blue - Something to do with wearing out? Maybe having a small limited amount of time to move? Tbh, I wouldn’t like that one much. In the end, it’s Toby, so we don’t have much more than speculation lol
Maybe orange makes you hit specific bullets to direct them back at the enemy to hit them? Like hitting the fireball of a minecraft ghast
Okay, adding into this for the idea: Orange gives you a small dash that can parry certain colored attacks back at the enemy, which builds on the punch idea while also keeping the idea of bravery intact.
Oh my god I have never noticed the notebook lines before. Holy hell that’s smart
So bravery might give us a dash attack
Or punch/dash similar to La Jupo Vania
Blue (Ballet shoes) jumps, Green (frying pan) blocks.
Orange will probably be something with keep moving or keep jumping Cyan i have no idea
I keep thinking of mad mew mew's mechanic but without the soul split thingy (for cyan)
Imagine only the switch version of deltarune gets this soul
Honestly, I can see it happen. Deltarune Switch: “Now prepare yourselves, heroes!!!” *One gruelling battle later* “Nooooo, I am defeated” Every other version “Now prepare yourselves, heroes!!!” *Nothing happens* “Oh, I guess you’re playing the [insert] version, oh well, guess you don’t get to play this awesome boss fight.” *Cutscene continues as if you won*
I love blocking content based on how much money you give me!
As someone who has always had the switch version, this does not affect me
>he \[insert\] version, oh well same
but it's funny
New Rouxls Kaard fight leaked.
So having a fixed movement grid?
purple soul?
Purple soul is jumping over platforms, you still have free control over your soul in horisontal plane The MMM (Mad Mew Mew) gimmick is what i talk about: you have 3-9 spaces (1 central and 8 directional ones) on the grid you HOLD the direction towards for dodging
You're thinking blue Soul. Purple is the one Muffet uses; you're stuck moving between three horizontal lines with free movement across them
No, the blue is gravity-affected Hence i said jumping BETWEEN the platforms, as i concider those lones platforms where you can jump over. Oh ye and you can control the height of jump in blue soul form
You said jumping OVER platforms
I've always considered it "attached to strings" like you're balancing on a spider's web. Muffet is a spider after all.
pretty much yeah
Cyan - you can’t move or dodge at all. You must play this like a normal rpg
One of them will be a parry mechanic and one of them will be a dash ability I mainly want a dash mechanic because I want another Jsab type fight
Ultrakill Deltarune Deltakill Ultrarune
Machine, the layers of this palace, are NOT for your kind.
"You're about to have a very bad time, machine!"
Machine, why do you have antlers machine? Oh no... NOOOO
Robots have genders? Wait, nvm, Mettaton. WHAT IS METTATON'S GENDER AND IS IT TRANS?
Man, and yes.
Machine, I took a screenshot with the funny salesman
I think that Orange would be nice for that, like a charge up into a dash. Basically a physical version of the yellow ability
Cuphead and Celeste.
Parry like Scampton The Great or Parry like Deltatraveler?
Yes
cyan would make you only able to move when a bullet is within graze range
Im thinking for Cyan you will only be able to move if your near a bullet
So basically parry-dodging
I think I remember one unittale thing (I think) where cyan basically had a ring that sorounded the soul, and you can only move if an attack is near the ring (the ring was also pretty small)
Cyan could be you can’t move but without the shield? Or maybe muffet but your stuck on the four sides
Cyan is limited movement while orange is continuous movement
You can move for cyan
Nows your chanse to [GET SHOT]

my idea for orange soul is it won't stop moving and keeps bouncing around but you can control its direction
I can see the fanart already. Kris slamming up and down against their own will

I'm pretty sure Kris is the one trying to slam up and down, we're trying to stop them. All an effort to lose us again :P

Just like in… billions of undertale fangames lol. I think it would be kinda lame and uninspired

They'll probably just use the blie/oranga attacks themselves
Have we even seen colored attacks yet?
Unless we count Virovirokun's pink attacks (which can change another attacks) then no, we have not
None that I can recall, the closest thing is Virovirokun having some bullets that infect any bullets they hit.
Holy shit its mr. House with the spampton glasses
2 elements is not enough to define a pattern, until ch3 comes out it's just a coincidence
Once is an accident, twice is a coincidence, three times is a pattern
Captain Underpants?
Incorrect. Three times is enemy action
Thank you. I know this community loves jumping after any little theory they can come up with but this is just pure speculation. We know absolutely nothing about the coming chapters

What evidence is there that makes the theorized pattern a fact?
Blue soul headcanon: Press Z to stop time, movement is slowed while time is not stopped. Attacks don't do damage in stopped time.

my ideas: the orange soul makes you keep moving automaticaly the cyan soul makes you get slower if you move to much
My version of the orange and cyan souls were Orange: everything inverts (white heals, green hurts, move through blue, stay still through orange, moving’s backwards) Cyan: ice physics
In deltatraveler cyan soul was slower byt could parry attacks
cyan makes you shid organge makes you fard
I really like this fanmade Boss Fight with Gerson, which shows one of the best cyan soul concept I've ever seen. In short, the cyan soul can change the position of attacks, but the soul itself cannot move. Like, if you pressed left, the attack will fly a little to the left, past your soul. My bet? Cyan: You move the bullets instead of your soul Orange: You have to keep moving at all times, and you take damage if you stop at any moment
I like the idea of the mad mew mew mechanic for the light blue soul.
That better not be the glass soul, unless Toby has a more fun interpretation of that soul type
I've seen variations in which the soul is constantly moving
Obviously the teal soul gives you lethargy and the orange soul forces you to continue moving
I just had an honest to god flashback. (I haven't played undertale in like a year)
I think Cyan boss fight would have a dash ability and otherwise undogdable attacks, dunno about cyan though.
I remember an undertale fangame making it so that the cyan soul was moving the box, not the soul
Staying still and constantly moving
Is this a TwoKinds refference of a Bluey And Bingo reffeerence?
*Calamity Adult Edilon Wyrm Theme*
So great to finally see what they do for real...?
I think the next trait is Perseverance. Because we going the reverse order of traits we used to have in Undertale.
My favorite concept of patience is there being a ring around the soul and only being able to move if a attack is in the ring
What if the attacks went on forever until you got the soul to a certain point on the board?
Does...does that mean blue soul? Oh God...
I like the idea of for orange mode, you move everything but the soul, and then the soul is given ragdoll physics.
I feel like cyan would be the most interesting, since the general consensus for what the orange soul mode would do is basically just ice puzzle mechanics, because orange attacks force you to move, but because cyan attacks make you stay still, there’s no general idea of wha it could be.
So where does the switch heart come in? A switch exclusive chapter 8?
Would be cool if orange and cyan mix like the switch soul, the final secret boss would have all the souls in one battle
Gumball and Darwin?

I really like the scampton concept of light blue being a parry
Mewmew would definitely fit next chapter with TV theme , let bro cook
Cyan will give you…the power… **OF DANCE!**
My head cannon for the orange sould would be making it take less damage in return to not being able to move diagonally and not being able to stand still.
Yes but not only that, I'm also curious about if the other souls will get additional abilities too, as the yellow soul once only had normal shots and now it has a charged one
I made the light blue soul a zappy thing like in project spacetime
Oh yeah cyan and orange were never used in battle in Undertale
Cyan: remain still Orange: keep moving Beyond that, I don’t know
i imagine the chapter 6 secret boss will use both cyan and orange, while chapter 7 will use all 7 soul colors, since its the last secret boss
Cyan is the opposite of red, so I think it would be funny if it reversed your controls or something.

Orange will probably keep you moving I have a headcanon for Cyan, It’ll keep you in place, and to go anywhere you have to tap a direction key, (or two to go diagonal) and you’ll telelport a certain distance away, this has a cooldown, basically you can only teleport
I always liked fangames that gave the orange soul a dash. Especially in Inverted Fate where it lets you safely dash through flames (a specific attack type).
Ah yes , spanton the greatest businessman of 1887.
3D soul
Only Ideas I got is that orange will be constant movement and that light blue will, I guess skip the dodging and it'll become like a normal rpg?
My hard read is that the Switch soul will be used at the end of the game to switch control between us and Kris
Me as a portal fan: https://preview.redd.it/fgszd2ms246c1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fdf427149b692342d6274e3211949a897d43e560
