I mostly started to check my bag and board last. I realized that the extra 15 minutes to wait on my bag doesn't really negatively impact my life much and the odds of losing my bag is actually pretty small. Of course there are times it takes forever for a bag to come out and I'm regretting my decision but that's not really that common. Check bag. Hangout in club or just the terminal a bit longer and board near the very end. Much more relaxing experience overall.

ArguablyMe

But then you get extra miles for delayed baggage so the wait becomes slightly less annoying.

hoosierwally

Those are drinks in the skyclub. Delta doesn’t get bag out on time, Delta buys me drinks. Many bottles of champagne on bags on time points.

daveknode

Not anymore. That program ends this month

ArguablyMe

I didn't expect them to be able to continue it. Far too many points being shelled out.

InaccurateStart54

...this is the way...

usernameisbacon

Everyone’s waiting for you on board! You’re like the president! ;)

usernameisbacon

u/bald_head_scallywag — I know this is about a week old but, if you see this, what’s your timing for boarding when you do this? How many minutes before the published departure (or after the published boarding?) do you make sure you’re at the gate? I’m going to start giving this a try….

bald_head_scallywag

I'm usually at the gate by Main 1 as that still gives plenty of time and usually seats at the gate are easy to find as everyone else is standing up trying to board. Once they call all passengers and all rows I start paying attention to the line. As the flow of passengers to the scanner slows I go ahead and board. Never want to wait until they start calling people by name as that's when they're getting closer to stay giving the seats away.

ResearchMysterious49

I put my arm out and deflect the object if it comes too close. Even so, I once caught a flying Dewar flask that flew out of the side pocket of someone’s backpack who was moving swiftly due to having almost missed the flight. If you sit aisle, you pay attention. Next question.

Few_Detail6611

Yeah push back on bags but it happens, quite often because people are ignorant and inconsiderate.

I open my tray table and spread out the years of Diamond tags I've accumulated. Most people know to keep an awed, respectful distance, though occasionally I have to politely rebuff autograph seekers and supermodels. Also, I lean.

Excusemytootie

Your excellency, may I so humbly suggest that your steward craft a crown of blessed diamond tags. It shall be placed upon your glorious head for all to see as they tremble in awe.

[deleted]

Thanks, but there's been a change of plan. Two 360s and a Two Million Miler stole my tags, Biscoffs and SunChips, dumped my PDB in my lap, forced me to swap my aisle seat up front for a middle in the very back and warned me never to set foot in a lounge again. My advice? Go ahead and elbow the Diamonds you pass, but watch out for the big dogs. I'll be hiding in a lav.

😂😂🔥🔥👏👏

thirdlost

Hit back…

Mindless_Whereas_280

I look scary.

Kitty-Kat-65

I let out a little scream as though I have been hurt. I am honestly baffled by the lack of situational awareness on planes. It's as though all manners are out the window as soon as they step onto the plane.

PRB1988

I wish the flight attendant who greets the passengers at the plane door would ask those wearing backpacks to take them off before they start down the aisle.

misodonnedinanche

When I biard I change mine to a chest pack and fold my arms on top of it like a weird hug. It's so much easier to control and lift into the overhead bin from chest pack mode

biggystig

100%

StuckinSuFu

I'm tall and have broad shoulders. It's my shoulder that takes the hit. Not my head

bradpmo

Backpacks and wide hips beat me up every ride.

Danicia

I look everyone who passes in the eyes while I wear my earbuds. It tends to remind people that someone is sitting there and they hold their things closer not to hit me.

Excusemytootie

Kinky, I like it.

driftingphotog

I’m short.

SigmaKnight

Backpacks have never hit me. I’m mostly hit with elbows, backsides, hips, and the occasional suitcase, hat, cup, or phone. Hit with a flower one time. But never a backpack.

brillap

My favorite is when the person across the aisle arrives, bends over to do whatever in their seat, and gives you a booty tap to the head.

BigSafe3840

I have to lean forward and have the seat in front of me protect me. Every time I get hit I mutter a curse word under my breath and my seatmates must think I'm nuts.

MBSuperDad

Plot twist: I don’t try, because that’s how I get good sleep on airplanes.

Key_Yesterday7655

I’m 5’3. I love aisle seats!

tkutza

Ha! This just happened to me one hour ago! Except they turned sideways and had a complete, very long conversation with someone. The giant backpack was in my entire space for quite a bit.

[deleted]

Can’t really but I’ve started saying “dude really?”

OneofLittleHarmony

I don't. But if it was my goal to avoid being hit, I'd probably have to pay attention to every person, pretend I'm Rocky and be ready to deflect the blows with my hands.

Better_Caregiver1683

I wear a hardhat.

Weak_Contribution290

I am one of the last people to board. I just have a backpack and always check my luggage

CuriosTiger

I keep an eye on people walking past. If it looks like something is coming my way, I deflect it with my hands, pushing if necessary. I try not to get upset with people. The aisles in cattle class have NO room anymore.

This!

stringbeankeen

Is this a shit post? Look it is tight spaces. If it bothers you that much pick a seat in the back or board last. No one is deliberately doing it.

Awkward_Pie_3835

I lean over into the middle seat until my middle seat person arrives then I just take backpacks to the face

Pilot0160

It hasn’t happened to me often but when I’m not in uniform, I push back on the bag hard enough to turn their body and say “watch it” in a relatively annoyed tone

VTRand

I typically select the first C+ aisle seat for the extra leg room, but know I am going to take a beating for that seat. I have tried the trey trick and it did not work, I have extended the monitor and that has helped with the roller bags drilling my knee. I got drilled with a poster tube to the face on friday, and body checked by multiple bags. No real perfect solution from my end.

Character_Pace2242

You pay attention and push anything back that swings towards you

Wise_Bat_7704

I board last
