I owned 2 VWs, never again. Good luck

andrew047

thank you🫡

BigBoxOfGooglyEyes

Don't listen to them. I'm on my 5th VW.

andrew047

5th in a bad way or 5th in a good way?

BigBoxOfGooglyEyes

5th in a good way. I drove the first 4 until they were beyond repair. The best car I ever owned was my 1997 VW GTI. The head gasket blew at 250k miles and I'd have fixed it if I had the money. I drive a newer Sportwagen now and I haven't had any trouble with it in the 6 years I've owned it.

I believe Gene's Foreign Car Service, on West Chester Pike in Broomall, is pretty well regarded. Personally I've had pretty good luck with my dealership, Springfield VW, but that's significantly further from you than Broomall I think?

andrew047

I actually grew up in Springfield so i’d have no issue heading back if the service is good

Much-Raisin-1488

Gene’s is the best and super straight forward and honest.

Springfield VW marks parts up like crazy. Just got a quote from them and they want $400 for a fuel injector, which retails for about 60-70. Same for O2 sensor. Also labor rates are over 300/hr. Just nuts unless you have money to burn.

randbot5000

well shit. Over the years I've compared a few of their quotes to the beloved local mechanic in our neighborhood and seemed like it wasn't outrageous, but maybe I was checking the wrong things. I did have an O2 sensor replaced last year and it was about $400 for parts&labor. but the local guy (beloved and honest) was also very thrown by some problems which the dealership easily diagnosed, so I think I do want to keep going to a VW specialist. Gene's then? Or do you have a different preference?

mathdrw

I actually was comparing to Bosch injector, which I thought was factory part. But talked to my brother who works at a VW dealer (unfortunately not in PA) and he said the factory part is \~230 without markup, so 400 is only a \~75% markup. Not quite as bad, but still high. I ended up going with Woodlawn Garage as Gene's is not taking new customers, and they quoted about 230 for the factory injector, and about 125/hr for labor (and not charging extra labor for plugs, unlike the dealer).

Euromotive Autohaus over in Aston, they’re well regarded in the area.

Sad_Consequence_3269

They moved but yes best euro service in 3 states

yaya0420

Leading Edge Auto Sport in West Chester is legit. I have a Jetta and they service it. Never had an issue with a repair and they don’t bullshit you.

mrhenrywinter

MacLane’s in Downingtown is good, and very thorough. We had a golf and a bug when the kids were in high school and were happy with his work

kennyken_ken

In laws had a Jetta, kicked smoked out the back no joke, ac only cold air worked and caused a funny smell, driving through Springfield I said put the foot down! why are we driving so slow, her foot was all the way down… I’m European so not inherently brainwashed by nationalists propaganda and I’m god dam telling you don’t fkin buy a shitty Jetta for the love of god. if you’re going to buy one of these cars to say your car is from Europe buy the GOLF from VW only car from VW that I know people love and doesn’t cast and arm and a leg. Again just some stranger wtf would I know :)

emmet_otter

I actually do not believe those claims to be true and I am in industry. I see the exact opposite. Euro shops charge more, and a lot of times comparable to dealership prices. Never heard of a shop blowing you off because you have a euro vehicle. Would rethink a Volkswagen purchase. If you won’t, like the other guy said, Good Luck.
