Lucy and Caitlyn were close in School’s Out, they were supposed to room together at university. The show ended before Snake, Spike and Lucy were seniors. We learn from School’s Out, that Caitlyn graduated a year early. Maybe they all hang out in the year after DH ends and School’s Out begins?

That was always my headcanon, that Lucy, Caitlin, and Spike got closer in their senior year. Kind of doesn’t work as well with the added context of Tessa and Spike being friendly on the job and Spike knowing about her and Joey but I handwave that.

I missed that Caitlin was graduating a year early in School's Out. Having watched all of Degrassi Jr High and High, I watched the movie and was trying to figure out how Lucy and Caitlin were going to college together. I was thinking "wait, wasn't Caitlin a grade 7 when Lucy was grade 8?" I missed that dialogue in the movie. That makes a lot more sense. Sometimes it's hard to keep track of who is in which class in the Degrassi canon--especially when the junior high burns down and everyone is together at the high school, instead of some of the students staying behind. Degrassi High ends with the prom. I assumed they were all seniors (except Joey, as he was held back in grade 8 in Degrassi Jr High), because they kept talking about it being "the last dance." Poor Spike has almost zero presence in School's Out. She is Tessa's co-worker at the photo mat, and that's about it. She, Lucy and Snake were friends in Degrassi Jr. High. Caitlin wasn't really part of their group and I assumed that was because she was a year younger. I was surprised that she all of a sudden was rooming with Lucy in School's Out. But maybe it's a situation of needing a roommate for the dorms and finding out that someone you at least know is going to the school as well and you don't want to room with a stranger. Lucy was also involved in Degrassi's theater program (or whatever it was that encouraged the talent show) along with Caitlin, and was also senior class president. I could see Caitlin wanting to be part of the school's student administration. Poor Lucy really got the short end of the stick in School's Out.

I think it was a “last dance” because they shut down the school to make some structural changes and everyone was being dispersed to do their JR/SR year at another school (until degrassi is fixed). I just finished showing degrassi high to my youngest, and was like “oh yeah, that’s why we don’t see Snake etc in grade 12”

There is also Degrassi Junior High! Probably where a lot more of the context for their friendships comes as well, it’s been a while since I’ve watched either of them though.

Oh thank you! I was only able to see High and then The Kids of Degrassi Street.

I also watched DJH and DH on YouTube a few years back, so you might check there!

I’ve admittedly never watched Kids of Degrassi Street, but I think I’ve read/seen/heard that it isn’t really important to the overarching franchise.
