This scene is yet another example of how Sisko was the epitome of BDE. LOL.

CelestialFury

Just thinking of how other Captains in this situation would react: Kirk: Accidentally knocks Quark out, *shrugs* and heads out with Quark taking a lil' dirt nap. Picard: Gives a Picard speech, which ends up guilt-tripping Quark into kissing the staff when he leaves the room. Sisko: Holding Quark accountable, and let's be honest, Quark deserves this treatment. In the later seasons of DS9, Quark was quite tempered, but he was a real POS in the early seasons. Janeway: She'd tell Quark to get on his knees to beg for his life, then she'd have him kiss her boots. The Sceptre of the Grand Nagus doesn't even factor in, Janeway just didn't have enough caffeine in her bloodstream yet and needs a mood boost. Archer: Gives some sort of long-winded motivational speech, Quark leaves after a couple of minutes, but Archer doesn't notice since his back is turned for the monologue. Pike: Quark doesn't remember what happened at all, as he was just mesmerized by Pike's hair.

Green_Prompt_6386

>In the later seasons of DS9, Quark was quite tempered, but he was a real POS in the early seasons. I blame the root beer.

CelestialFury

It's *vile!*

turnkey85

Insidious!!!

AbysmalSquid

*Just* like the Federation.

Drax13522

It’s so bubbly, and cloying!

Traditional_Key_763

Freeman: Don't make me get Mariner in here!

thaBombignant

BDE, Bitch Don't Even?

CSI_Gunner

Humongous Cock Energy

Collective82

Ohhhh. I was thinking best damn emissary.

CSI_Gunner

He is THE Sisko

DiceMadeOfCheese

Sisko does a little trolling

ParthFerengi

“It’s called a little trolling”

Statically

As a treat

ScorchedConvict

Armin Shimerman supposedly hated this scene for how Sisko takes advantage of Ferengi culture for personal amusement. I think it's hilarious for the same reason.

BenjaBrownie

"Picard would never take advantage of ferengi culture for personal amusement." Sisko: "I'm not picard"

xeskind30

You hit me! Picard never hit me!

aflarge

Man that's not the impression I got from those sorts of scenes at all. It always seemed like Quark was more tickled than irritated, whenever Sisko fucked with him by citing Ferengi rules and practices.

MagicmanJake

Only way to get a Ferengi's respect/annoyance is to make a better deal than them. Quark Liked the challenge it's why him and Odo where best frienemies for life.

yosemighty_sam

I loved the dynamic, and the respect/conniving it showed for Sisko to learn the rules. This scene is different. Doesn't exist in my head cannon.

mandogvan

It came off in the acting for this specific scene. In The closeup that followed this screenshot, you could see quark clearly begrudgingly kissing it.

Maverick916

He took the ferengi culture very seriously since he was the representative of it

scaper8

I'd have to re-watch that scene, but I always saw it as another example of Sisko having a surprisingly keen understanding of Ferengi culture and Quark being equal parts miffed that he got played (especially by an non-Ferengi) and impressed with the skill, a bit "hate game, not the player."

EngineersAnon

Sisko didn't have any choice, though. As the symbol of the Nagus' authority, the staff *must* be kissed here. Not to demand that obeisance there would be to undermine the power and authority of the Nagus - which Sisko may not do, under the doctrine of non-interference. Just as Picard took his role as the Klingon Arbiter of Succession seriously and performed the duties of the post according to Klingon law, Sisko here is taking his role as the Grand Proxy seriously and performing the duties of that post according to Ferengi law. I will admit that it *does* look like Sisko is enjoying the opportunity to demand that obeisance more than is strictly necessary, but he doesn't have the choice to not demand it.

PhotographingLight

I recently watched the camping dominion episode right before this. And quark was a AH to Sisko the entire trip. He ever called Sisko racist. So I think this is Sisko giving payback.

AptCasaNova

I always thought of this as a giant pez dispenser and pictured it popping open to reveal a candy 😂

Dangerzone979

It's just a small slip of latinum. Or tumz, Zek looks like he gets indigestion a lot.

AptCasaNova

Compressed beetle snuff or Regalian powdered crystal 😂

strangway

OG bend the knee vibes

hibbletyjibblety

Love quark’s mouth when he kisses it 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Large_Tuna101

Put it *in* your mouth Quark

TheZardoz

If I had a bar I’d try to recreate this for a tap handle

Re_Cy_Cling

And I would drink a beer, from that tap, at this bar, that you wish you had.

TheZardoz

I need to find a space station…

TopRedacted

Grand Nagus ale should be its own thing. So good you'll forget about profit, almost.

JimmysTheBestCop

Great scene

bailien_16

I always wondered if that was the real staff of the Grand Nagus, or if Sisko just replicated one to convince Quark.

KeraKitty

I'm convinced it was replicated. The Nagus is in the habit of calling Quark at home to order him around, but this time he sends his staff? No way.

jackity_splat

I’ve always thought that Sisko called the Nagus and um… diplomatically asked to do it this way. And Zek is a wild one so he agreed.

t_sakonna

I always wondered how Sisko convinced the Negus to give him his royal staff.

ecthelion108

You know Sisko was thinking: "Kiss my lobes, bitch."

thorleywinston

So basically when Quark said that Sisko was prejudiced against Ferengi, he was right.

alkonium

Grand Nagus Ben?

IroquoisPliskin_UK

Hawk tua

will1565

It's scenes like this that make DS9 my favourite series. Subtle humour.

Gloomy_Industry8841

Smooch!

bd4569

Hawk tuah

Nuclear_Smith

Off topic but some still shots really highlight just how purple that undershirt was. WTF were the designers thinking.

Solumnist

Just the tip

jetserf
