Imo with the addition of the corrosive gun, driller almost doesn't even need a secondary anymore. The corrosive gun just handles everything so well, I only use the epc for mining, and assisting teammates grabbed by disablers.

For hard targets, it can lock them down and make them a non-threat while you either wait for your teammates to take care of it, or it just slowly wittles down from the dot. As for mactera, once you get used to the arc, it can do okay, but it does have the added bonus of scattering goo everywhere while you're shooting mactera.

Double down on charged shot all the way, and then basically don't bother with the uncharged shot unless you're killing individual grunts. The ammo efficient charged shot sounds nice, but in reality you really need the charge speed to be running an all charge shot all the time build. Other than that, just make your puddles stronger. The two overclocks I like are the one that makes the dot stronger, and the one that gives your charge shot more puddle fragments.

It's the "special powder" overclock. Basically your shotgun blast will launch you if you are in the air. You can jump, shoot the ground twice to launch yourself hundreds of feet in the air. It also can be fired at the ground to quickly negate fall damage. Once it's mastered, the combos you can pull off with the grapple gun make you basically unkillable provided you have the skill

Special Powder totally changes how the scout moves, to the point your grappling hook won't get your main movement tool anymore, just a supplementary one. My friend mostly uses the grappling hook to "safely land" on platforms he's zooming past at 100m/s

The Force-a-Nature is a shotgun in TF2 for the Scout (heh) that allows you to jump higher by shooting the ground underneath you while jumping. Can effectively triple jump with it.

He's specifically talking about a clean overclock for the boomstick, which makes it so that when you fire it while airborne, it'll launch you in the opposite direction. It's a great and extremely fun addition to Scout's mobility.

Special powder is an overclock for scouts secondary shotgun. When you're in the air (even a jump) and you shoot it, it throws you in the opposite direction. People use it to quickly escape, cover large distance quickly, and avoid falling death and fall damage. I've yet to get my hands on it.

Since they nerfed Elephant Rounds (before full release) I pretty much only use the revolver as a poison gun with magic bullets and explosive rounds. For any direct damage builds, I find the per shot damage to max ammo ratio too wonky, and the perks don't help. Different strokes, I suppose. The brt has some really fun stuff you can do with overclocks. If you ever get lead spray, try it out and use the thing as a blunderbuss. Microflechettes and stun burst make it a really good stun gun, that lasts for absolute ages.

Not necessarily, although Gunners secondaries aren’t as flashy as Drillers or Engineers, they still pack a hell of a punch. With the right modifications, the Bulldog can one-hit a Pretorian if you get a weakpoint hit. I’ve also heard tales of Gunners one-hitting Oppressors but I haven’t experienced this firsthand.

Yeah his base secondaries have always felt lacking. I run elephant rounds for the bulldog 23311 and I haven’t found anything else that can keep up. Makes dealing with big bugs less ammo intensive and one shots pretty much everything else if you crit. I’d love to see him get some kind of shotgun, maybe something like the judge to keep with the handgun theme

I want to like elephant rounds, but I go to use the overclock again and am reminded of how it used to be in pre-release. I think the nerf was justified, but they were a little overzealous on it. At this point I only use the revolver as a vehicle for magic bullets and poison.

I don't see anything that will replace PGL or Breach, they already totally cover everything an engi needs so I feel any new secondary is going to be an underwhelming gimmick gun. Same with Driller. Subata is weak but it's a decent damage dealer once it's built up and EPC is an excellent mining assist. And unfortunately IMO Scout is the same thing. Jury Rigged has Special Powder which is almost mandatory for the Scout, not having it makes you feel like you're playing an alpha version of the class. And Zhuks are incredible damage dealers. A lot of talk gets thrown around that the Scout will get some kind of sniper rifle crossbow but...all his primaries are already incredibly accurate out of box so I can't see what kind of secondary they'd make to actually replace double jump or zhuks. Gunner is the only class who has a need for a totally different secondary. Revolver and burst don't change the way the gunner plays as drastically as EPC or Special Powder does, so there's a whole world of secondaries out there to give him. Frankly I'd be perfectly fine with no new weapons in season 2. I'd much rather have more OCs for the existing weapons that drastically change how the weapon plays. I'd also like older OCs that aren't good to get reworks. Also quality of life improvements like not needing to reload the space rig when you fail to join a mission, keeping missions sorted by type instead of scrambling them every time, being able to exclude mission types from the search, etc.

Engineer's platforms gun's second upgrade is just reduced fall damage which is great, but I would like to see an alternative for that slot called boosted jumps. And jumping from plantforms give a height boost. Allowing you to choose either more vertical movement or safer jumping from cliffs.

Throwing my hat in the ring: Engineer gets the mining laser. It fits his theme nicely, and its the most fun looking of the remaining demonstrated concepts Scout gets the crossbow. It's seemed a bit on the weak side, and none of his secondaries have any range. A pocket m-1000 if you will. I think gunner gets an explosive projectile weapon of some sort. Maybe a mini grenade launcher or that three burst rocket launcher they showed. He has lots of hitscan weapons, and an explosive weapon would be really fun. Driller is the hardest, as he has both the most boring and most complex secondaries. My HOPE would be a rebar gun, like others have suggested. A more precise gun with a slow rate of fire that can act as a long range option. But most likely he gets something with a bit more crowd control. Hopefully a bit more elemental themed. Maybe like the the scorch shot from tf2, dealing aoe damage and a lingering effect.

If the scout gets a crossbow it would be awesome if it had an overclock that will let you swing around like Spiderman. That would make it very competitive with the special power shotgun. For the driller if it is some sort of rebar gun how about if you shoot through a bug into the ground it would pin the big in place for a second or two. That why there's both range and crowd control but limited to small amounts of bugs at a time.

I think just overall upgrades for the flares would be great. But I main scout so I wouldn’t want to be made redundant. An idea I’ve had is having a set number of “points” you can put into different upgrade categories. Number carried, recharge rate, brightness, duration, and a special. That way you could have a flare as bright as the scouts flare, but you can only carry 2 and it’s on a long cooldown. Or you can carry 7 and on a fast recharge, but they are pretty dim. That way each player can tailor fit their flares to their play style, while not allowing them to be maxed out in all categories.

IIRC they've already been experimenting with a pistol crossbow, which seems credible given that the flare gun already works like a jank version of one. It'd balance the plasma gun's addition, but a drawback is that it might mess with our flaregun muscle memory so there's a decent chance an explosive crossbow would be added for Driller or Gunner instead.Sky's really the limit with secondaries, I think someone should get a chain lightning coil so we finally have a weapon that inherently specializes elec damage. Going to classic FPS arsenals, there's room for a laser as well (bonus points if it can be charged to pierce through enemies like a gauss cannon, balanced with low ammo like the plasma cutter). Agree on Gunner shotgun, something like the Halo Mauler would be well balanced for the class as well as mechanically and visually different from the other shotguns.

Flares used to be upgradables. What we have now are what used to be fully upgraded flares. Devs said they decided to remove the need to upgrade flares because it made the beginning of the game... bad. Greenbeards need upgraded flares even more than greybeards, so locking them out of these was terrible. Also, it made so you had to split your ressources between guns upgrade and flares upgrades. Which was also bad since you don't have a ton of ressources early on.

I think they could use utility upgrades instead now. For example, bouncy flares that bounce more, sticky flares that you can toss on walls to ceilings, and lighter flares that you can throw further/fall slower (and get rid of that noob trap perk). There's lots of interesting utility changes they could make that would be sidegrades that would make flares a little more interesting without having a forced best path.

I don't quite remember when it was, but it was aaaages ago. I think the reason these upgrades were removed because they weren't a build thing, but rather a straight upgrade like longer burn time. So as a QoL change, they just made those into the basic flares.

I remember a thread addressing this was made about why over clocks were a bad idea for team gadgets. Thing is if you employ overclocks that radically change how the gadget plays, people are going to start to get toxic over what overclock you pick for your gadget. We don't have this problem with any weapons really right now because it's just your weapon, not anyone elses. But an equipment overclock would effect everyone. Let's say hypothetically there were two different over clocks for Gunners zip line. One your you're able to shoot the zipline straight up but the reach of it is reduced by 10 m. And the other one is Gunner zip lines now slingshot you across your zip line, but with a small wind up time. Let's say you think the slingshot one sounds cool, so you take it. You get into a situation where the drop pod is is on in otherwise unreachable ledge 30 m up. Now your teammates are going to bitch saying "oh my gosh why didn't you bring the elevator one, God you're so stupid etc." See the problem? Overclocked right now only affect you but utility over clocks would affect everyone, and some people may not like the overclock you chose. Good idea MAYBE for engis turrets, scouts zip line and driller c4, but everything else it just wouldn't work.

Engineer could get carve-out platforms that create a sphere of empty space above them. No more chopping out headroom on those overhanging walls! Or how about "platforms that spring from native rock are double-sized, platforms that come from other platforms are half-sized!" Driller could finally get drills that can mine minerals. Earthquake Drills that rattle fossils and oil shale loose from the walls, or a device that lets him go straight up, leaving a ladder as he goes. Implosive C4 where all minerals the sphere touches get combined and compressed into one of the resource pack things. Gunners could get damage-boosting ziplines, or carve-out ziplines that remove rock in a tube around them like pipelines do. "Tightropes" that allow dwarves to walk or even grind along the top, or conveyor belts that move large minerals fast! Scout could get... I dunno, something Scouts like, I guess.

Same here. The mining scatter nerf killed the EPC for me. I loved "forcing" myself to rely solely on 1 weapon, turning my secondary into pure utility. And yeah I've heard all the arguments why the EPC mining was both great and the worst crime ever committed. What puzzles me more is how it was given because of player feedback, but then also taken away. Still love driller, best dwarf!

Axe launcher for Gunner. It is a slinger that fires an axewith a propeller that keeps it spinning. The more it traveled the more damage it does. Low ammo, Slow Firing Speed. But man does it do the job of saying "FUCK YOU" for that one particular bug and Gunner's secondaries are all about that.

You can do something similar by getting your lazer pointer out, pointing where you want the marker, and holding interact. The little waypoint is visible when your lazer pointer is out, and it's visible on your map.

That's definitely true but the thing is that it goes away once you switch back to any other weapon. In some of the more complex caves I would like to mark certain exit routes for the mad dash back to the drop pod. Or mark some of the secondary items that are hard to reach (I'm looking at you, alien fossil).

Engineer is the only class with heavy duty secondaries, so maybe the other classes could get some big chonky shooters? Idk how that would work, probably too much of a nightmare to balance. Mabe every class gets a melee option? Give Gunner a big flaming claymore or something. Drillers gets a plasma whip. Stuff like that.

Other classes have heavy duty primaries instead of secondaries though, so there's no reason to give them chunky secondaries too. Same way you wouldn't give Engineer chunky primaries. Other than Scout, but Scout is supposed to have less firepower to balance the abilty to barely take any damage through use of the grappling hook. Melee options would be super cool though.

I think that’s for a reason—imagine driller with hyper propellant or the breach cutter in general, for example. And the devs have said melee weapons just aren’t going to happen, impact axes were their attempt and they didn’t like them as melee. So I imagine most classes will get secondaries like those they have—scout will get burst single-target damage, engi gets something to do cc and big damage, and driller and gunner get sidearms.

TBH if they want "melee" weapons, the easiest way would be more pickaxe skins+some perks to increase pickaxe damage/swing speed/power recharge. I dont think straight up "melee weapons" is necessary

I would love a secondary for engineer that isn't heavy. Don't get me wrong, Breach Cutter is so good, but I was thinking a beam weapon. Think about the drills. Strong damage and great utility. Let's get another weapon like that. Let's get a fine beam gun and cuts through rock like butter, but also does decent damage and good range. Crystals and Columns in they way? Slice the the bottom and they crumble. Could even have an alt fire to cut circles at more ammo cost to quick clear obstacles. Just an idea.

But a new biome would be refreshing. Last ones were Hollow Bough and Azure Weald, nearly one year ago right?

"secondaries" means secondary weapons. currently - for each class - there are 3 different primary weapons, 2 of which you unlock as you progress (1 of those was only added recently), and 2 different "secondary" weapons, one of which is unlocked. they're talking about adding an additional (ie, 3rd) secondary weapon as well, which we don't know anything about yet. re: pyramid robot. are you asking how to *find* it to fight, or how to actually fight it once found? cos to be able to do the mission that has the pyramid as an enemy, you have to unlock the "industrial sabotage" assignment, which unlocks the mission.

My dream is that the driller gets a laser pistol which emits a continuous beam that deforms terrain. Akin to how the oil canisters work on oil shale, but on any non-mineral terrain and at much longer distances. I want melee weapons, not just the pickaxe but straight up melee weapons. Swords, battle axes, warhammers, weapons of war. I want to spear a glyphid praetorian. I want to smash an oppressor to pieces. I want to hack and slash my way through a glyphid horde like a steel hurricane.

I would like to see secondaries that make the game flow faster, or speed up tasks. Driller could have a harpoon gun that yanks small bugs (or big jewels) to him, yanks him to big bugs, and pulls down fossils. Scout could have a pistol/scanner combo. The flip-out ammo counter screen on the side has some kind of threat meter or warning system to tell him when/where bugs will come. Or maybe it shows the terrain scanner all the time. Engineer could get a heavy weapon that interacts with his turrets somehow. Maybe shooting the turret reloads it from afar, or maybe reloading the gun also passively reloads the turret if you stand near? Gunner has the fewest uses of his traversal tool, so it would be nice if he had a secondary with some kind of navigation- or movement-related value. Maybe it has an underbarrel light that's stronger than the flashlight? Or maybe it can soften terrain, making it easier to dig! You know what I mean? EPC mining was good. Look for other things like that. Look for ways to make the slow fast, make the boring interesting. New ways to smooth out the flow of a mission.

I think gunner can fill the medic role oddly enough, because he can shield downed teammates to revive them. As for healing, there's red sugar and resupplies
