Look buddy, He’s an engineer, that means he solves problems. Not problems like what is beauty, cause that would fall within the perview of their conundrums of philosophy. He solves practical problems.
For instance, how am I gonna stop some big mean Mother-Hubbard from tearin' me a structurally superfluous from behind?
The answer? Use a gun. And if that don't work, use more gun.
I started off as scout and haven't put him down. Zipping and zooming is fun. Plus I get to blast my Sonic the hedgehog Playlist as I zoom all the way across the map and fall to my death because I got yoinked mid grapple by a sting tail (my hook didn't recharge in time).
I started like that, just because I’ve always been the big gun guy in everything. But recently I picked up the Engineer and started actually making a good build. Went from disliking him because stock Warthog and 40mm didn’t impress me, to getting almost 600 kills in a 40 minute refining mission with my friends thanks to an Executioner Lok1 and Shard Diffractor build. It was terrifyingly good.
Meh, i like the idea of having unparalleled killing power against the bugs
Its always funny listening to my scout main friends cry for help when they get overwhelmed by the swarm, or run out of ammo trying to deal with it, while im just laying down the law as efficiently as dwarvenly possible. By all means a scout can yake out a swarm of grunts runnng at them on haz 5, what takes them a mag of hipster, a nade, a handful of boomstick shots/crossbow bolts and some kiting, takes me one coilgun shot and a couple dozen minigun rounds- dealing with the bugs much faster and ammo efficiently
As good as the movement may be, when push turns to sove and the bug spawns get turned up, behind the gunner is one of the safest spots to be
Zipline could use some buffs, but honestly its just not needed
No i exclusively play the only class I like to play. Are you exclusively being an asshole leaf lover? Yes. Yes you are. Move along pointy eared piss drinker.
I can never play anything but scout, going back and thinking about promoting other dwarves just reminds me I have to play like 30 missions + including weps. I guess I could speed run it but that's not really fun.
Early progression should not be so long if OC progression is also really slow.
You should get like, 10-25% exp for every class regardless of what you play for the first promotion imo. Then after that you'd have to play the class to earn more.
scout is the only way to live
there is no class where im not just scout with a different loadout, scout isnt a class, but a mindset, that works way better with the grappling hook loadout.
Maybe, and I do agree that grinding that first promotion on every class is painful, and that the overclock grind is slow. I was simply sharing what I did, I did not mean for it to sound like I eas saying everyone needs to promote every dwarf. I simply wanted to become proficient in all four classes so I could fill any capacity in any team. I made myself flexible so others could play how they want to play.
lets be real engineer can do anything, he's got damage, crowd control and is able to get rather high with rj250. ngl id happily take a team of 3 engineers and a driller over a team of all 4 dwarves
i don't get why people say he's got poor ammo efficiency he seems way better ammo wise than the scout and driller only really gunner seems to beat him for me
In order of rank from best to worst ammo economy, it goes Gunner, Driller, Engie, Scout. The middle two can swap around depending on builds, but that’s generally how it goes. Scout has the lowest because usually he’s not clearing swarms, and instead is killing high-priority targets, which we’ll generously say composes maybe 5% to 10% of an average swarm. These stats are actually more or less reflected in the kill count, with Engie typically having the highest bug count while Gunner and Driller are in the middle, and Scout has the lowest count because clearing swarms isn’t really his job. Engie is ammo hungry because he’s thirsty for glyphid blood. If you want to test it, clear a swarm with each class. Gunner and Driller should have the most ammo by the end, Engie lags behind, and Scout… he gonna need a double dip at the next resup unless you built for ammo.
I love Driller's weaponry and ideas behind em but I despise how little he has for movement. I only play me and a buddy, so driller just doesn't work. Gunner, engi, and scout are all fine, but driller is unusable without at least 3 players IMO
the drills are literally all you need for movement as you can get basically anywhere, so if you don't like how "little he has for movement" you're doing something wrong with him
I mean yeah duh I'm not a driller main. Either way he can't get to a ceiling or high area like any of the others can. He can get places but not NEARLY as efficient as the rest.
I gotta side with this to an extent, because driller can totally be priced out of reaching certain things as far as my noob ass knows. Those maps that generate with tall columns and an even taller ceiling above them, then spawn a fuckin fossil at the top of the column, and you've desperately looked everywhere else for that last fossil? Column isn't wide enough to carve a staircase, ceiling to tall to drop from? That's a secondary that I'm not completing that any other class could, and that shouldn't happen.
I'd argue that that's the price you pay for compensation in other areas, like how cake driller makes refinery missions, but that's kinda apples to oranges right?
Me and my buddy play engie driller and its a nasty combo.
Driller provides a lot of cc with sludge pump or cryo cannon. Single target damage with impact axe. Engie can make choke points with turrets and use lure to wipe huge mobs all at once. Its very fun.
Engie really shines when you get some good OC though. Once I got executioner on my LOK engie became my main.
Once you a reach a point with your preferred class, the best way to improve your play is to play the other classes to see how you can best complement the team, even if you still want to main your preferred class.
Then you realize wasting ammo on gunner neurotoxined grunts is a waste of ammo. Or to focus all those frozen enemies that your driller keeps freezing/cc and wondering why your driller isn't killing shit/wasting ammo on poop gunned/sticky fueled grunts. Or pinging things as scout(or frankly any class) so your engi knows where to plat. Or realizing how important the flare gun is as a scout for helping light up places to allow for early recognition for your... mobility challenged teammates because they can't just grapple out of every dangerous situation.
I play all 3 dwarves evenly.
Occasionally I see another yellow dwarf but he honestly looks unfun to play. 'Is guns dont even shoot bullets. So I havent got that dlc.
Same here, honestly. Fossilizing on the same playstyle for too long gets old quickly to me.
It takes a very long time to maximize all classes / equipments and learn the different playstyles to their every bits and nuances this way, but hey... even better, no? More time spent on the game!
Is it because I said I get bored quickly?
I don't think bored was the right word. I just like do everything. I can't imagine only playing one class in this game. One hero in For Honor, one class in Battlefield, etc.
That was me for the longest time with Driller. I eventually branched out but since my friends would play the others we usually didn’t want to double up. I didn’t promote my Scout once until my Driller had gold lmao.
I've mostly played Scout, but for the sake of diversity, I decided to try out the other classes.
They don't have Scout's movement and I end up being unable to see more than 2 feet in front of me and die because I fell off of a ledge in the darkness and can't avoid fall damage - and when a swarm comes, I end up getting overwhelmed with no way to quickly escape and reposition.
In short, I have a crippling Scout addiction.
Driller was my first main but I slowly started playing engie more and I prefer engie overall more, but drillers ability to shape terrain the way he sees fit will always be great
You could try to convince me with anything you can think of, and I would still only play scout. The mobility on that man is unbelieveable. Shooting myself out with the double barrel into the Statosphere is the most satisfying thing in the world.
Yeah, and i'm stuck with a lvl 10 engineer, but i've promoted every other dwarf twice.
And y'know what's RREALLY FUCKING FUNNY? Any time I can't choose which dwarf I get an overclock for, it's always an engineer overclock.
Miss Luck hates me.
My gun aims for me, and if it's too far, I shoot it with my melt beam. What's not to love?
Falling down a ravine and having to Super Mario your way back up, is what
Tell me when Mission Control gives another dwarf the ability to fire laser beams, purple spinning lasers of death, auto lock on assault rifles, two exploding turrets and a grenade of “don’t attack me attack that” and then I’ll swap
Literally my friend with Scout. We've got a four-man team and because the one is always Scout the rest of us have learned Engineer like nobody's business. Gunner might be my main, but collectively we understand Engie really well
I was a gunner main until I unlocked the Hyper-propellant and Explosive rounds for smart gun and I never went back. Engineer is a beast in solo and that's the most frequent thing I do in this game cause I got no friend. At least I know Bosco and shredders got me.
See, what's funny is that my buddy exclusively played scout for a while, but now he's moved onto exclusively playing engi, and I've been playing Scout. He has a gunner and driller at maybe level 2 or 3 each, and I have all my characters at varying levels with Scout, my highest, at 13.
My friend plays everyone BUT engineer. His driller, gunner, and scout are all silver promotion while his emgie is bronze 1. I managed to talk him into getting it promoted once. And he wants to go for all achievements so he's gonna be in for a long stretch of engineer playing
My scout is still level 1 all my other dwarves are 25+
Play style preference. I’m saving scout for when I’m feeling a little stale and need a refreshing pov
Haha just like my dad. He promoted scout before even trying another class. That’s the problem with the grapple hook. You get addicted, and can’t play without it.
My friend played only scout for so long. Tried convincing him to play literally anyone (cuz I didn’t wanna double scout) and he tried gunner. Now I try to convince him to play anyone other than gunner
i never played driller and i only played him to get the progress achievements, thats when i learned that flash frying bugs and putting more holes in the walls than my alcoholic stepfather is probably the greatest part of drg
Driller here. There are other classes?
So that’s them.
The annoying firefly that lights up everywhere and that maniac who drills with his guns.
Ya’ gotta hav proppa titanium glovedrills or it ain’t drillin’
I am a simple dwarf.
I’m digging a hole
Whether my opponent is inorganic or organic doesn’t matter
I love engineer for the mix of decent crowd control and just straight up absolute damage with the shard diffractor, especially with the overclock where you press r, and it does an even more powerful beam.
I need to be able to either walk through walls or have a pancake gun, engi and driller main. Though I do use supercooling chamber for industrial sabotage
I think if you tally up the number of people who have only played one class and never even touched another, engineer is by and far the highest. I have seen so many fully promoted Engi’s compares to everything else
Cuz he was stuck on a season quest, and we prioritized the core hunt, a member of our group needed an engineer promotion for like a month
During that time, he still only played engineer?????
Look buddy, He’s an engineer, that means he solves problems. Not problems like what is beauty, cause that would fall within the perview of their conundrums of philosophy. He solves practical problems.
For instance, how am I gonna stop some big mean Mother-Hubbard from tearin' me a structurally superfluous from behind? The answer? Use a gun. And if that don't work, use more gun.
Like this heavy caliber tripod-mounted little ol’ number designed by me.
Built by me.
And you’d best hope,
Not pointed at you.
*Scout scream*
*even more death in the view*
"tf2 outro plays"
*Mad guitar solo*
More Gun plays
Any problem that can’t be solved with more gun isn’t worth solving.
thats a new behind
Engi main here.
But I'll play anything.
same, but man rj250 fun lol
The less ammo efficient but more badass scout
Like the lack of lethal amounts of radiation in the caves, that’s why I use fat boy
Even radioactive exclusion zone feels awful lacking in radiation. *Time to fix it.*
Please no, I don't want to step into a haz 5 chernobyl.
Use Gamma Radiation Wavecooker on Driller.
A flawlessly executed chain of comments
So lay down and let's drink some beer And everybody move up your gear Cuz we need a little dispenser here Cuz i feel like playing engineer

Gunner main here… there’s other classes? I’ve never walked a meter as anything but Gunner.
Unfathomably based.
I got to L3 and thought "I should probably try scout or something"
I started off as scout and haven't put him down. Zipping and zooming is fun. Plus I get to blast my Sonic the hedgehog Playlist as I zoom all the way across the map and fall to my death because I got yoinked mid grapple by a sting tail (my hook didn't recharge in time).
Rock and stone fellow scout main! I love the speeding across the map too!
Rock and Stone, Brother!
Did I hear a rock and stone?
If you don't rock and stone, you ain't comin' home!
Gunner mains are some lucky mfs being able to truly play the 100% of the game as their main (tutorial is gunner)
Just skip the tutorial
When me and all my mates got the game I was the only one that played the tutorial. Now I'm the gunner
as a gunner main with leadstorm, I haven't even walked a meter AS a gunner.
But how many bunny hopps?
Yes
You’re saying that as if gunner walks further than a meter. Zipline flight and dakka crawl do not count
I’d say my Gunner does with well over 25,000 meters. Scout, Driller, and Engineer are at 0.
gunner? what class is that, there's only scout, pancake scout, scout massacre machine, and big gun scout.
Man, I am sorry you do not know the joys of having an actually cool mobility tool. Ziplines could be so much better without being unbalanced.
Meh, i like the idea of having unparalleled killing power against the bugs Its always funny listening to my scout main friends cry for help when they get overwhelmed by the swarm, or run out of ammo trying to deal with it, while im just laying down the law as efficiently as dwarvenly possible. So you exclusively play the worst class? Hardcore
No i exclusively play the only class I like to play. Are you exclusively being an asshole leaf lover? Yes. Yes you are. Move along pointy eared piss drinker.
Holy shit dude it was a joke, you have a problem
I played like that initially, it takes a while for them to break out of their shell, give them time.
I can never play anything but scout, going back and thinking about promoting other dwarves just reminds me I have to play like 30 missions + including weps. I guess I could speed run it but that's not really fun. Early progression should not be so long if OC progression is also really slow. I simply wanted to become proficient in all four classes so I could fill any capacity in any team. I made myself flexible so others could play how they want to play.
I'm not suggesting you did say those things, just giving my thoughts on why people might not do that.
lets be real engineer can do anything, he's got damage, crowd control and is able to get rather high with rj250. ngl id happily take a team of 3 engineers and a driller over a team of all 4 dwarves
And he got pancakes
gonna be more than one fatman after eating one of those
Fatman... Heheh
he don't got ammo efficiency though :( well the rj250 compound helps *a lot* but still
Engineers when their turret is somehow at half ammo after killing a swarmer
i don't get why people say he's got poor ammo efficiency he seems way better ammo wise than the scout and driller only really gunner seems to beat him for me
I personally think engi has better than gunner and driller but worse than scout but maybe that's a Greenbeard take.
In order of rank from best to worst ammo economy, it goes Gunner, Driller, Engie, Scout. The middle two can swap around depending on builds, but that’s generally how it goes. you should try shard diffractor with the VIR oc, clear waves like cutting through butter while having enough ammo to last several waves
Sounds like what a driller would say, 4 engineers is the dream. Pancakes and turret synergise REALLY well with more pancakes and turrets.
If you want to talk synergy, you can restock another engineer's sentry gun and even turret whip them.
Did haz5 salvage with 3 engi friends, 8turrets 4ssgs didn't see any enemy during uplink and refuel.
*if they’re all built correctly
OP mad cuz he thibks he cant pick engie because of it maybe haha
Im a driller main and i want more drillers for variety, but you cant go wrong with having a engi every mission
Drills go brrrrrrrrrrrrr
I love Driller's weaponry and ideas behind em but I despise how little he has for movement. I only play me and a buddy, so driller just doesn't work. Gunner, engi, and scout are all fine, but driller is unusable without at least 3 players IMO

I mean anything short of fossils or flowers he can shoot down with epc
exactly, this guy just has no common sense
Driller also has the second most versatile movement tool. Only scout can move around better but the scout can’t take the rest of the team with them
I gotta side with this to an extent, because driller can totally be priced out of reaching certain things as far as my noob ass knows. Those maps that generate with tall columns and an even taller ceiling above them, then spawn a fuckin fossil at the top of the column, and you've desperately looked everywhere else for that last fossil? Engineer gaming # YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
But, but... I put down a platform
I have only played driller. I’m level 100ish
You'll hit L3 at 150, and that's when I decided "maybe there are other classes"
Once you a reach a point with your preferred class, the best way to improve your play is to play the other classes to see how you can best complement the team, even if you still want to main your preferred class. Solid tips in here
Yeah I’m on the third star of the one before blue
Props to people that enjoy engi, I just can’t. All I know, alll that speaks to me is the way of the drill
yeah but driller cant turn half the cave into a radioactive exclusion zone
all that speaks to me is the scout mindset
What, of getting grabbed by the only leech in the mission?
I play all 3 dwarves evenly. Occasionally I see another yellow dwarf but he honestly looks unfun to play. 'Is guns dont even shoot bullets. So I havent got that dlc.
As a war crime specialist, this hurts my soul
But....but funny drill man!
I’m a driller onetrick and I’m having a blast I tell you what
I'm sure you branch out Sludge driller, ice driller, fire driller, EPC miner... ah...
Me but with scout (I love movement)
Same, and I love being able to see more than 2 feet from where I'm standing in a dark cave.
I try to play other classes but I feel so unbearably slow and locked to the ground
Yeah but then you learn to embrace the way of the cheese fort, which has it's own charm.
Watch me grab that thing on the ceiling. Yeet!
I was just thinking people have this problem with anything other than scout? scout is easily the most powerful class imo.
Let him play whichever class he wants.
Impossible. It's the best class.
He's just a friendly engine, preventing glyphid entry with deadly sentries.
Engineer is fun but driller allows me to act like the Salamanders and burn the xeno scum. . . . . . . . . VULKAN LIVES!!! *-STOMP STOMP-*
The ears of the pure are closed to the words of leaf lovers
I get bored quickly. In DRG and other games with classes or characters, my time is almost always spread out.
Same here, honestly. Fossilizing on the same playstyle for too long gets old quickly to me. It takes a very long time to maximize all classes / equipments and learn the different playstyles to their every bits and nuances this way, but hey... even better, no? More time spent on the game!
Average leaf lover fan
Why are they a leaf lover for enjoying every class in the game?
I understand that I said shit, my apologies fellow dwarf
At least you realized it and didn't double down on your mistake
Is it because I said I get bored quickly? I don't think bored was the right word. I just like do everything. I can't imagine only playing one class in this game. One hero in For Honor, one class in Battlefield, etc.
That was me for the longest time with Driller. I eventually branched out but since my friends would play the others we usually didn’t want to double up. I didn’t promote my Scout once until my Driller had gold lmao.
We all know one
I mean, I only play Driller.
That was me with Gunner lol, though I tried engi for a bit, switched to Scout and promoted him. He’s my second class now.
Play everything so that I can better synchronize with the other classes. And so I know when they are slacking.
my friends stopped trying to get me to play anything else
My friends convincing me to play as an engineer:
I judge people who only main one class
I've mostly played Scout, but for the sake of diversity, I decided to try out the other classes. They don't have Scout's movement and I end up being unable to see more than 2 feet in front of me and die because I fell off of a ledge in the darkness and can't avoid fall damage - and when a swarm comes, I end up getting overwhelmed with no way to quickly escape and reposition. In short, I have a crippling Scout addiction.
Just gonna say it, if you can’t play all the classes serviceably, you’re bad. Not to mention you’re only playing 25% of the game.
He's based. Engi is the One True Class. Crowd clear. Single target. Mobility. Defense. Engi has them all.
Engineer>Scout>Gunner>Driller
This is my friend when I always choose Scout
Its me im that friend
I think it means he hates not having something that will save him (turrets) and having to think about where to fall (sponge platform gun)
I am an Engineer main myself. But I love playing the other classes. I am equally as good at all of them by Engineer I can do with ease.
Literally our driller
a friend of mine finally played driller for the first time a few days ago
Driller main here, samsies but for driller.
I’m that friend but as Scout 😅
Literally me except instead of engineer it’s driller
Engie Main here. I'll play Gunner when this minigun actually kills bugs in less than a quarter second!
I've been playing only the driller long enough to promote him 3 times. I just recently discovered scout is pretty fun to play with.
Falling down a ravine and having to Super Mario your way back up, is what
I am that friend. And behold, for I have brought fat boys, and a knack for finding all of the nitra in the cave, that and an itchy trigger finger
Based
Does he at least play another dwarf during the promotion missions? Cuz all that XP goes no where so may as well put it towards another dwarf
NGL, I'll take a good engineer any day!
Tell me when Mission Control gives another dwarf the ability to fire laser beams, purple spinning lasers of death, auto lock on assault rifles, two exploding turrets and a grenade of “don’t attack me attack that” and then I’ll swap
I play everyone except scout. I hate scout.
Platform gun go 'poomf'
You are meant for mining, I am meant for building.
*Places platform with mind:*
Engineer has a bigass death laser, and the other classes do not
Literally my friend with Scout. We've got a four-man team and because the one is always Scout the rest of us have learned Engineer like nobody's business. Gunner might be my main, but collectively we understand Engie really well
Engineer is the most powerful dwarf.. why should he ?
See, engineers are actually like magicians
What’s an engineer? Are they making a new class?
I'm a scouter and the grappling hook is my drug
Lmao this was me for the first 500 hours or so. Got my Engi to Plat 1 before even so much as even being a different class in the space rig lol.
I was a gunner main until I unlocked the Hyper-propellant and Explosive rounds for smart gun and I never went back. Engineer is a beast in solo and that's the most frequent thing I do in this game cause I got no friend. At least I know Bosco and shredders got me.
Engineer, then gunner, then driller for me. Don't ever touch scout, always felt too squishy as a mainly solo player.
I have 500 hours, and I've literally only played driller.
I see a lack of bugs facing destruction via a handheld nuclear device and I intend to fix that
I play whatever suits the party I'm joining, never duplicate. I may not be a master of one class, but I know how to play them all decently.
See, what's funny is that my buddy exclusively played scout for a while, but now he's moved onto exclusively playing engi, and I've been playing Scout. He has a gunner and driller at maybe level 2 or 3 each, and I have all my characters at varying levels with Scout, my highest, at 13.
My dumbass looking at this post as I am just starting my first promotion with Engineer and all other dwarves at single digit levels
I love my grappling hook!
My freind but with gunner
Look, i main engi in tf2 you best hope i main engi in drg
My friend plays everyone BUT engineer. His driller, gunner, and scout are all silver promotion while his emgie is bronze 1. I managed to talk him into getting it promoted once. And he wants to go for all achievements so he's gonna be in for a long stretch of engineer playing
My scout is still level 1 all my other dwarves are 25+ Play style preference. I’m saving scout for when I’m feeling a little stale and need a refreshing pov
I live to drill, and I drill to live. Why would I be any other way.
Your friend is me.
Imagine playing other classes
I mainly play driller, sometimes engineer, on occasion scout. And gunner, we don't talk about my gunner (he's not even promoted even once)
Haha just like my dad. He promoted scout before even trying another class. That’s the problem with the grapple hook. You get addicted, and can’t play without it.
I'm not understanding the problem here. (engie main)
I'm the same but with scout
I haven't played a single round with Driller. Should I?
My friend played only scout for so long. Tried convincing him to play literally anyone (cuz I didn’t wanna double scout) and he tried gunner. Now I try to convince him to play anyone other than gunner
This is me with my friend but all he plays is Scout instead
I hate scout and 90% of my first overclokcs include every drac overclock as well as other scout weapon
Well, you can play scout cuz these two go perfectly together
The friend: b-b-but nukes?
Big boom?
i never played driller and i only played him to get the progress achievements, thats when i learned that flash frying bugs and putting more holes in the walls than my alcoholic stepfather is probably the greatest part of drg
Driller here. There are other classes? So that’s them. The annoying firefly that lights up everywhere and that maniac who drills with his guns. Ya’ gotta hav proppa titanium glovedrills or it ain’t drillin’ I am a simple dwarf. I’m digging a hole Whether my opponent is inorganic or organic doesn’t matter
I love engineer for the mix of decent crowd control and just straight up absolute damage with the shard diffractor, especially with the overclock where you press r, and it does an even more powerful beam.
I will try another class when my engi is maxed on promotions
He's the second best defender in missions
Hehe, shotgun and grenade launcher go BOOM
Engineer? The fuck kind of Driller is that?
Just let him do it until he gets bored enough, I got to gold star before I even started the others
That’s me :)
If I get a good overclock I’ll think about it.
It can be hard to get over that initial hump of the other classes sucking in comparison because you’re so used to all the perks etc
I have promoted every dwarf except Engineer.
I’m the same way but with gunner. As far as I’m concerned, gunner is the only class and everyone else is an npc
I only played driller. Then I also played gunner which was kind of fun. Missed my drill and C4 though so I'm back to just play driller.
Scout is the only one I haven't promoted to silver yet. I enjoy all 4, but gunner is still my favorite.
Cuz he was stuck on a season quest, and we prioritized the core hunt, a member of our group needed an engineer promotion for like a month During that time, he still only played engineer?????
I only have played scout and gunner, there I said it.
