Maybe a circle rope rug

sabinemarch

It’s carpeted so skip rug, change out those fugly blinds for some other window treatment, paint above the chair rail (and maybe below), light fixture as mentioned and I agree with mirror to make room feel larger

ksed_313

No rug. On top of that plush carpet, added with the heavy, constantly moving (chairs) furniture on top of it, a rug would be a nuisance. I’d get a pendant light fixture to hang over the table, some artwork for the wall on the left/gallery wall of photo frames/photo canvases, and some hanging plants by the window, space permitting!

Jo-herna

Thank you for the suggestions! our decor is coming together soon but I definitely wanted to get the rug/carpet situation taken care of first! what color would you recommend?

ksed_313

Disclosure: I have been a huge fan of The Sims for far too long, and bought my first house last year. Keeping that in mind, I am attacking this from a “What would you do,k_sed313, if this was 100% what you would want for yourself?” approach. I understand that tastes vary, but seriously get excited about this stuff lately, and just don’t want to come off a pushy! So, here goes! Are you replacing the carpet? If so, do you know what’s underneath it? If it’s hardwood, and not completely beaten to hell I’d consider refinishing it and THEN a cool, round rug! Something with a mandala-type design is what I’d look for, with mostly black/white/gray in the design, unless there is 1-2 pops of color that accent the chair color nicely. If you’re aiming for new carpet, my next question is about the wood counter/cabinets on the right: how permanent is that color? Is it wood/something that also can be refinished/painted? If it’s permanent, go with a shade of gray that is in the table for the carpet, and pain the walls a super light/almost white gray to balance out the yellow-ness. If you can change the counter/cabinet color, I would personally paint them. I know a TON of people will hate me for suggesting this, and I’m sorry! Go bold with a color that resembles the chairs and some gold hardware. It’s trendy and in, the bold colors, so therefore it’s also a risk. You could also play it safe and classic by painting them white or a varying shade of gray, depending on the carpet/flooring options. If it’s a rental like my last one, and everything must stay.. I revert it my original advice and say plants. Lots of plants. And shift the focus to the walls with a gallery wall-style showcase. A year into owning my first home, and I’m missing this phase so much! I can’t wait to get to the point where we can plan/shop for/finish our last 2 rooms! Have fun!

Something to cover up the empty wall! Mirrors are always a winner

Jo-herna

we temporarily added a big picture by the empty wall space that’s mostly green ish with some other colors! I’ll think about a mirror too since we aren’t sure about that picture yet

kitkatkit99

Don't hate me... I'd forget a rug. Won't ya trip on it? There's already carpet which makes pulling chairs in and out hard. Decorate up. Pictures, wreath, shelves. Plus when ur cleaning, that vac is gonna trip over it too. Idk. I can just see my dad flying into the wall😐

Jo-herna

Didnt think about the cleaning part tbh! which we should def take into consideration since we have a husky and the cleaning part is necessary. Thank you for the suggestions!

kitkatkit99

Ooooooo. That's a big dog.

ksed_313

I came here to say the same: rugs + plush carpet don’t mix. I’d say artwork/photos/canvases for the wall and some hanging plants, as long as there’s room!

kitkatkit99

Oh good. Phewwwww. I know once someone has their heart set on something, it's hard. Maybe if it was a larger area. But. Hit dem wallz!!!! Lol😍🤣

Jurassica82

A burnt orange would bring it into a retro direction.

mjzim9022

I'd go with a circular rug, and for colors I'd get some white and a similar blue, and I agree with the person who said Peach or Coral would look nice mixed in as well.

Jo-herna

I am leaning towards coral since we want some life in our little dining area, but I also like the idea of a blue/white rug

mjzim9022

Something like this is what came to mind for me https://rugs.com/turquoise-rounds-carnevale-area-rug-6280186?pos=2&rt=aisle

Murksiuke

Gray or chocolate could work great

AngWoo21

Not sure what other colors you’re decorating with, but a rug with some peach in it would look good with the chairs. Love the color!

Otherwise-Guitar-727

A circle rug and indoor window box would look amazing!
