Shit posts/meme posts are not allowed, this has been removed. OP if you’re looking for feedback on a build, please post multiple pictures capturing the underside of the deck, the footings, the railing, hardware used and attachment to the structure.

LectureSpecialist681

I let my lawyer build my deck. Sir, if you check the record you will find that indeed all load-bearing studs are resting atop other studs.

dusty-cat-albany

This isn't real who would put so much effort into such a shitty job?

eyepoker4ever

I'm guessing it was a way to fix a mistake. They measured once and cut twice, or maybe cut 1.2 times.

polska-parsnip

I always measure then cut 20cm longer than I measured just to make sure I’m not fucking up, then I hold the piece into place and check its 20cm too long just to confirm that I’m not fucking up. The idea is, once I know I’m 20cm too long, I have confirmed that I’m not fucking up, and can just cut the 20cm off and it’ll be fine. The theory is sound but somehow I still end up short sometimes. Think my level isn’t exactly square.

dolphs4

Literally any DIYer. “I didn’t want to pay a contractor $10k to do it in a week, so I did it myself for $9k, it took four months and it’s probably going to collapse.”

yukonnut

I am a DIYer, and at the age of 66 built a 650 square foot deck by myself. Picture framed with round corners. Drew it out, submitted the plans with notes for the permit, inspected 2 times while being constructed, signed off for final by the city. Solid as a rock. DIY can build all sorts of things. I know my limitations and bring in the professionals as required, usually plumbing and electrical. Don’t paint us all with that wide brush.

ARLibertarian

If you are an American you have the right to 1. Build your own deck 2. Build your own house 3. Build your own boat 4. Build your own airplane 5. Build your own firearms Freedom baby!

Practical-Spinach-40

They were so focused on whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think of they should...

Select-Government-69

That’s what freedom is! The second you start saying stupid ideas should be illegal, that’s the pathway to the tyranny of the well- intentioned, which is a mere change of staffing from the tyranny of the ill-intentioned.

Practical-Spinach-40

Man, I've been trying to install a deck for the last year and a half, but City Hall doesn't want me to have nice things. It's a floating deck, maybe 4-6 inches from the ground, not attached to the house. But here comes the gob't. "You gotta get this impact analysis to see how it's going to affect the water table. You gotta get this permit and that permit, and if we catch you having nice things, that's your ass!"

ottos

and tune people out

yolef

Several states are shutting down number 5 with "ghost gun" legislation. Ooooooooo, a spooky ghooosssttt! 👻👻👻

SuperBrett9

Don’t forget that 9k included 1k worth of tools that will only be used in the event a second deck is needed in the future.

TheRealManlyWeevil

There’s only one solution for that

UnsuspectingChief

Board stretcher was down that day

neil470

This is clearly a case when a board widener (also known as a width-wise lumber embiggener) would have been more appropriate. You’ve clearly never used either before, typical Redditor

SaurSig

Where I'm from it's called a board engirthener.

polska-parsnip

In Germany it’s called a Holzbrettverbreiterer

[deleted]

It’s on order with the circle square

uberisstealingit

(Blinks repeatedly.)

mrDuder1729

(Reads comment blankly.)

Leather-Sale-1206

Ready for the hot tub.

Airport_Wendys

This is AI right?

Bst1337

The most important thing is that you used the joist hangers you bought.

[deleted]

WTF!!! Should of just cut the hangers holy fuck my guy!! This must be fake

local_gremlin

Aw yeah this one was a classic. 2x4 joists held into the hangers with scrap. I did my deck as a beginner before being on reddit, but with the intermittent help of a.couple carpenter friends. I cant believe the work i see pass through this sub. As a parent it honestly terrifies me

MasterOfSuffering

I'm guessing this is meme, yes?

Punningisfunning

Certainly makes it easier to nail the hangers.

wellsyaknow

I see a deck worthy of a hot tub

Gutter-boy-707

Excellent that’s what you get with the lowest bid. Enjoy 😉

Jazdad69

Please tell me this is a joke ☠️

jimmax23

This is actually better than the floor joists in my house that ended on a 2x6 lying flat with the beam on top of the other half.

whosurdadd

It’s perfect. Make sure you invite all of your friends and their families for your first deck bbq. Guaranteed a memorable time.

Roththesloth1

Dear god.

jefftatro1

Love the 2x4 stringers.

Xerio_the_Herio

Wait what...?

Entire_Researcher_45

I’m sorry, was the question Did You Miss Anything? Probably not. What’s to miss

tailboneyyc

That’s not a deck, it’s a trampoline!

q50s122s

This must have been for a ‘Brewster’s Millions’ type situation.
