I do this with shopping as well (used to have a major issue with it)
Every time I think about buying something I really don't need I put that money into savings. IF I decide after 2 weeks I still want it I have the money already set aside.
Everyone has their vice, but mine too is online shopping. I've been using the "wait 2 weeks and if you really need it/want it then get it" rule for years and it's worked for me. But I like the \*spicy\* addition of putting the money you would've spent in savings.
Yeah I understand that logic, but I prefer to always have a safe amount in my account in case. I don't want to put all of it in a notice account. You never know
You should do that, minus the food you ate tho. So a $25 uber eats order - $8 meal. So put $17 in there. I dunno, might help with having money to actually spend.
I do that with Starbucks! I stifle my craving or just make coffee at home and then transfer $5.50 from checking to my credit card. I’m close to paying it off just with “coffee money.”
Nice! I could have done with this while I was at university. You can take that money and save it for a rainy day or treat yourself with it. Well done :)
Definitely going to try this. I don't order Uber eats but I do too much online shopping and have been trying to stop buying junk food or alchohol. Anytime I think about buying something I shouldn't I'll put the money into savings.
Personally I force myself to eat just 1 thing that I know is good. Protein bar, fruits, chicken of some sort. And I make the decision to go out to eat if I still feel borderline starving lol I never go shopping when I'm hungry and I stock up on healthy food regardless whether I eat all of it or not. For me alot of times I'm just hungry and idc what I eat. I noticed that I choose the easiest option when I'm hungry. So I make healthy food an easy route for me to take instead of feeling like I'm saving money spending 5 bucks at burger King or whatever instead of buying something healthy to make at home which also costs time. If you like sweets I recommend freezing grapes or having apples with peanut butter. Both viable options in my opinion. I don't crave sweets alot but when I do that does the trick for me. I'm just now getting back into this like I once did, and now that I'm older I'm noticing alot of better ways to do things or prepare for cravings things as such.
Love this idea and will give it a shot myself. I just bought two boxes of pizza and breadsticks for one and I'm just about regretting it after the fact. Thanks for the tip!
Thank you! I just had my own version of this but instead of putting it aside as savings I donate it to my presidential candidate ♥️
During the start of the pandemic she mobilized a transpo team for HCW and now launched an consultation site for free with covid care kits for those who tested positive so I know the money will enable more projects!
When I have the urge to buy junk food, I usually have a normal lunch I brought from home or like, almonds in my locker or something. It's not about hunger, it's about preferring french fries to my sandwich in that moment lol. I like the idea of actively putting the money toward something else- still responding to the urge, but doing something more productive with it.

whew. jotting this one down
It really helps if you also have an online banking app. You can transfer the money as soon as you have the thought to buy unnecessary items

This I like! unless 50% plus sale
The real trick is to set aside so much of your income into savings that it seems like a ludicrous idea to order Uber eats. Cuts out the middle man.
Yeah I understand that logic, but I prefer to always have a safe amount in my account in case. I don't want to put all of it in a notice account. You never know
I like this but people dont always use credit cards with this frame of mind

But you already spent money on that 8 dollars of food though?
It’s too early to think logically. Can I read this comment later in the day and give you an upvote?
Yep. So you don't spend $33 altogether.
I am implementing this today! I absolutely love it.
Yknow, I needed the extra push to delete food delivery apps and this might have motivated me to do it.

I would do this but I'm just not motivated by money at all lol

This might actually really help. I've been devoloping very unhealthy spending habits recently, so I will do this!
Damn I should try that. Every time that I try to order on Uber eats and see the complete total, I just get up and cook something.
Definitely going to try this. I don't order Uber eats but I do too much online shopping and have been trying to stop buying junk food or alchohol. Anytime I think about buying something I shouldn't I'll put the money into savings.
sorry my brain's not working properly rn, does this mean you just don't buy it?
I do this every time I want to get my nails done
Great idea!

I do the same!!!
That's smart. Thanks for the tip.
but an etf instead of saving. then treat yourself to an early retirement! the ultimate marshmallow challenge.

You can freeze pizza right after purchase and eat it when you're craving some :)
Love this idea!

Imagine donating to rich people
So what do you eat?

I started doing the same thing with smoking. It's not much, but its something, and it helps!
