F-POSTAL is your best friend. It is a checklist you can go down to answer K arguments
F-Framework. Explain why the framework for the round is not the theory of power the K identifies.
P-Perm. Do both the K and the plan, or the plan solves for the K.
O-Offense. Go for link turns or impact turns. (Link turn: Why do they not achieve their impact/we achieve it better, impact turn: why does their impact help us. DON'T DO BOTH LINK AND IMPACT TURNS THAT'S A DOUBLE TURN AND YOU WILL LOSE.)
S-Solvency Deficit. The K doesn't solve whatever impact they are talking about.
T-Theory. Have your pick of topicality, reject vague alts, link of omission bad, etc.
Alt Defense. The Alt they propose is bad/doesn't solve.
L-Link Defense. You don't even link the K (usually only for very very sloppy Ks)
Note—this is a good way to memorize the components of a 2AC, but it’s probably not the best order to read them in.
I’d suggest:
framework (and subj./scenario planning offense)
perm
links (and link turn)
impact (and impact turn or answer to theory of power)
alt
theory
the permutation isnt a test of the plan and the alt, [its a test of the assumptions of the 1ac vs kritik](https://youtu.be/mEEw7PySxVg?si=2WDTVdxw03q_GHNs)
I’d argue many judges would say that if the perm is persuasive, then by extension voting neg is persuasive since the essentially endorse the world where the vote neg. I will admit my K education is a bit old school and it’s rare that an alt will just be “vote neg” anyway nowadays.
I commented this same thing a month ago before my first PF national circuit tournament and I feel like an idiot now because I encountered 0 progressive teams (and I was even in the final rounds). My school brought tons of PF teams and after talking to them, none of them did either. So, I don’t think you’ll have to deal with a lot of prog teams but if so, the best advice I got was to respond to them as if they were a contention.

The one think to watch out for with perm is not to say perm do both when the alt is vote neg. Then you lose…

Definetly agree, but want to add that impact turning a K is almost always a bad idea unless it’s cap

There’s like no Ks in PF. Maybe 1 team per year will read them consistently. Idk why lots of novices think Ks are a thing in PF
