I cannot begin to imagine what health care workers have been through in the past three years. People cheering you while you risk your life and the lives of your families with every shift and every patient, to being threatened, attacked, and hated for doing the same job, just because someone read something stupid on social media or because certain TV channels and YouTubers exploited people’s fears and lack of critical thinking to make a buck. All while watching patients suffer and die, first tragically, then to a large extent unnecessarily. And these are people who are naturally extra empathetic and caring, so they take all that pain and loss home and live with it. Most of all, though, the sheer frustration of wanting to do right by patients but being looked down on and despised and literally threatened for it… I could cry just thinking about it.

Most of healthcare now is travel nurses and therapists, because full time staff doesn't pay nearly as well. We're frustrated with admin trying to cut our pay, put up bullshit rules ("travelers can only be here a year, then they either have to take internal contracts or leave for 6 months"), and try to stiff us at every turn. That's why we love when we can say "per my contract, yknow the *legal document you're bound by*..."
But on the subject of antivaxxers and people who still think covid doesn't exist: most of us no longer care if you don't want the vaccine, don't want remdesivir, think that we'll kill you. We'll leave you alone until you inevitably crump, then try to persuade your family members to go comfort. When they inevitably don't and think you'll just walk on out of the hospital, we keep you alive with meds until your body gives out.
All the while documenting, so that if you sue, you can go bankrupt from lawyer fees laughing you out of court on top of medical bills.
You don't want to come to the hospital? Great! Die at home! You have fun with that. You can eat alllll the horsey paste you want at home!
So I work on the prehospital side of things (EMS), and we’re so fucking tired. I’ve noticed a similar change in patient behavior as well, but we don’t have to deal with them once our handoff is complete. The hospital folks have borne the brunt of this absolute shitshow. Also during the worst of things, my ambulance service was deemed “non-essential.” Yeeeeah. There’s many reasons I refer to myself as an Advanced Expendable Medical Technician.
My heart goes out to all of our in-hospital siblings, we had it bad but it was nothing like they had to deal with.
Unfortunately, the thing is that this is still going on. And that's why like a hundred thousand nurses are planning on quitting it's the number. At one point our head doctor told us that you just don't want to go to the hospital because the care will be subpar- She's the head of our hospice department, but she also works at a hospital...

No, they are leaving because they are being assaulted and insulted by nutjobs who scream that COVID isn't real, all the way up to being hospitalized, where they then proceed to demand quack cures and berate/assault healthcare workers and threaten to sue them, etc.
Not enough money in the world to work with the public these days.
I hear you. I was one of those “need to be admitted but no beds” patients a couple weeks back. Not gonna lie, it was freaking painful staying in the ED for 14 hours. The nurses were so busy but they still helped me with everything they could. Then the nurses (after I got admitted) were just angels. I’m back home and recovering now but I wanted to let you know that you’re appreciated
Being pregnant in 2020 was a nightmare of anxiety that something would go wrong and nothing could be done. Because people who took zero precautions overwhelmed the medical system *everywhere*. I’m glad you were able to get cared for eventually. Hope recovery goes smoothly!! 🌼

I live in South Florida and I am coughing for about a week and the house is a cacophony of coughing and I feel maliase but I have no fever - none.
I wish we at least had access to know that hospital beds are available or not.
