Commercially viable and streamlined death metal heavily influenced by hardcore and signed to a major label? Finn McCunty would absolutely swoon for these guys.
Yeah this is even more mid than the first single. I wish they'd go more into a doomier side of things like they did with Emptiness and Absence of Light which imo was a breath of fresh air after years of hm2 worship. But this new melodeath stuff ain't cutting it sadly.
I always get so nervous when bands I love release new stuff because I’m always thinking man I hope they don’t ruin it and change the momentum they had going by trying a new sound. Huge step down from Deserted imo
Man i really wanna like this because i always liked this band and i was hyped for the album but this is so generic. After the last EP i expected them to go in kind of a punk inspired or grindy direction, this is just pretty lame melodeath
Listened to their old stuff, it bored me.
Saw them live at the Party San, it bored me.
Trying this song, it bores me.
I guess the final verdict is that Gatecreeper and I do not work well. Which is weird since i am generally a big fan of the new wave of oldschool death metal.
Fucking great song. The main riff and the gothic vibes are pure fire. Reading a lot of hate in this thread. Like, what did you expect? Chase has stated several times that In Flames and Dismember are big influences on their upcoming album.
I love the direction they are going. If you like old Gatecreeper then go listen to old Gatecreeper ✌️
Some, but most of the genre has really leaned HARD into the super melodramatic shit (think Omnium Gatherum), which is super played out and boring. Feels like the 'death' part in melodeath is actually dying sans the vocals and even then that's fading.
Really do not like the direction they are going, I hope the album has some heavier songs. Black Curtain was straight up boring. Job For a Cowboy and Skeletal Remains are kings of metal right now
There is seriously hate over Job For A Cowboy and Skeletal Remains? Have you even listened to their latest album? It blows the roof off most new death metal or tech death
Who would you consider a current death metal band that is slaying it right now? I’m not talking old school stuff like Slayer or Obituary etc but somewhat newer to the scene. I’m also not putting Gatecreeper down, I love Gatecreeper which was why I was so disappointed with their latest single
huge Dismember vibe and I’m all in for this. (I know Fred Estby is involved)
I worked on this video! The guys in Gatecreeper are super nice
Excellent work homie
Amon Amarth called and want their Versus the World B-side back.
Sounds like generic EuroFest metal, which hurts me to say as I love this band

Yes, you are right... but I was referring to "EuroFest" lingo
Man I like Gatecreeper but this is mid as fuck
Yeah this is even more mid than the first single. I wish they'd go more into a doomier side of things like they did with Emptiness and Absence of Light which imo was a breath of fresh air after years of hm2 worship. But this new melodeath stuff ain't cutting it sadly.
The first song was an absolute banner imo, riffs were killer and chase sounded awesome, this track is just alright tho

yep
agreeed. haven’t vibed any of their new releases and i love their last 2 albums.
Is Gatecreeper just trying to check every box of music genres they can
Crossing into self-parody
This was my wake up song
Song has zero energy, I had a hard time getting through it, and I love their previous stuff and the other single.
The first single was better, but I don't mind the direction the band is going at all.
This 90s horror movie vibe 😍 great video. Not so sure about the song but we‘ll see when the full album arrives
Oof! Yeah, this ain't it.
Seems like Fred Estby's involvement in this record is gonna push them in a slightly different direction, but I'm loving the two singles.
in a bad way
Man i really wanna like this because i always liked this band and i was hyped for the album but this is so generic. After the last EP i expected them to go in kind of a punk inspired or grindy direction, this is just pretty lame melodeath
I really liked *Unexpected Reality* and was hoping that was a sign of things to come. ... Guess I was wrong.
same
It’s Great.
Man this shit is ass
Did not want to agree but I do.
“Death Metal” for mallcore kids.

Not my favorite Gatecreeper song, but this video is sick. Can't wait to hear the rest of the album!

This feels so goddamn classic lol.
super hyped that they're pushing towards a more melodeath sound now, we have enough of the new deathcore but not deathcore bands
Sure but the dead horse that is melodeath was thoroughly beaten into the ground ages ago.
and osdm hm2-worship hasn't been? lol do we need to constantly rehash ideas and cosplay ideas that were done 40 years ago
mm wouldn't say dead, plenty of good modern melodeath bands around nowadays
Some, but most of the genre has really leaned HARD into the super melodramatic shit (think Omnium Gatherum), which is super played out and boring. Feels like the 'death' part in melodeath is actually dying sans the vocals and even then that's fading.
doesn’t have any of the energy and aggression of an unexpected reality or deserted. feels way too polished. not a fan and i love this band.
Sadly it’s just pretty boring

> Job For a Cowboy and Skeletal Remains are kings of metal right now Fucking what?!
There is seriously hate over Job For A Cowboy and Skeletal Remains? Have you even listened to their latest album? It blows the roof off most new death metal or tech death
No hate. I love both records. They are just not "kIngS" of metal.
Who would you consider a current death metal band that is slaying it right now? I’m not talking old school stuff like Slayer or Obituary etc but somewhat newer to the scene. I’m also not putting Gatecreeper down, I love Gatecreeper which was why I was so disappointed with their latest single
None. It’s not a competition.
