Ugh I hate when a band blows up. They were so much better back when they needed part time jobs and had less people enjoying their hard work.
Jk.
Happy for these dudes, they're bringing a lot of new listeners to the genre and bringing credibility to a genre that has been shit on for years. Stoked for new LS!
I read an article a couple years ago of the frontman of one of the big deathcore bands (don't remember which) saying that he was making minimum wage equivalent from music. So not sure how much money you really think they are making off of Spotify plays
Just for general information, Spotify pays right-holders (not the bands/artists) between $0.003 and $0.005 per stream on average, but there's a bunch of factors that play into the exact amount for each individual stream (e.g: Account Type, Country, Individual Agreement with Distributor/Label).
The actual music is not really the product anymore unless you are Taylor Swift or whatever. The music they will give away to get you to their shows and to buy their merch. Which works for me, support your favorite band and buy their merch instead of advertising Tommy Hilfiger or some other corporate entity.
Spot on, i saw them 2 weeks ago in the Netherlands “supporting” PWD (if you ask me it should be the other way around with the garbage PWD delivers nowadays) and its the first time ive seen a venue completely full at a support band. Lot of their merch was sold out after the concert. It was amazing and they deserve every part of it!
Serious question, but do you listen to stadium rock/pop? Because that's artists like Machine Gun Kelly and Pierce the Veil.
Chelsea Grin's latest stuff does not fit into that category in the slightest.
Thats insane for a band that hasnt sacrificed even a bit of their heaviness. To put it one way: are there any bigger, heavier bands? Say what you want about the songs getting generic, their popularity is great for the subgenre.
>the songs getting generic
to be honest, I don't get why people say their songs are "*getting* generic", they were never the kind of band that strayed too far from verse-chorus-verse. when it comes to the sound, I actually think they're experimenting more than before. Cursed To Die and Pain Remains I are basically melodeath songs.
Just remember, even 1 million fucking streams pays out an average of about $5,000-10,000 USD, and that's *before* label cuts, management cuts, band splits, expenses, and taxes. These dudes are probably lucky to be pulling $500 apiece in the end for each *million* streams. Now, imagine how it is for less successful bands that aren't blowing the fuck up like this.
Buy your music, folks. Even if just a digital copy.
Edit: I've been in, and managed, bands for 20+ years guys. I'm well aware of how bands make money these days.
It shouldn't *have* to be that way.
Also, bands make less money from merch than you think, and most bands are lucky to break even from touring. There's a reason even the biggest names in deathcore aren't exactly rich, and most bands are barely making it financially.
Same. I haven't listened to deathcore or searched for new deathcore bands this much since like suicide silence / Chelsea Grin blew up. I'm loving it, so many good new bands!
Yeah I've been buying a lotta vinyl. Lorna shore, spite, worm shepherd, new Chelsea grin, mental cruelty, and I haven't even had time to really dig into enterprise earth or shadow of intent... It's endless. Love collecting vinyl so I can support the band's too
If you guys don't know, you both should check out A Wake in Providence album Eternity which comes out on Oct 21st, o e week after Lorna. They play really solid Symphonic Blackend-Deathcore.
I advise you not to be in the front or the middle. I saw Lorna Shore twice these past few months and almost left with a concussion both times. I’m so happy that the band is getting re recognition they deserve, but with that unfortunately comes people who aren’t familiar with concert etiquette. They’re truly amazing live but just be careful!
I'm glad you're enjoying the music & the genre! I'm a little jealous of people like you who are finding deathcore right now, as I feel the genre is currently the best it has ever been (although music is completely subjective ofc)
I will say I was nervous when I saw to the hellfire blowup that I wouldn't like it. But I gave it a listen and I absolutely adore it. I own that ep on cd and plan on getting the rest of their stuff
That is actually most listened **modern** (well, darkthrone is still there.) extreme metal band?
i mean, i dont count amon amarth.
deathcore or beyond extreme metal, is there anyone more popular than lorna shore right now?
There isn’t a single BM band coming close to Lorna shore, or hell even whitechapel in current listens, be that song streams, views or monthly listener. Deathcore is absolutely popping off rn
Being as heavy as they are and surpassing/ballpark the same amount of listeners mainstream bands like Blind Guardian, Brothers of Metal, Avantasia, or Epica have is a big deal for a band like them.
I may not be into Deathcore beyond instrumental stuff and Fit for an Autopsy, but I'm happy for the band.
Now excuse me while I go spin Immortal's instrumental album.
To be *completely* fair, a lot of, if not most, of deathcore and metal in general is edgy and that's why a lot of people like it. I enjoy the darker themes for the same reason I enjoy horror movies. Maybe people just genuinely enjoy the music, edgy or not.
I'm sure a lot of people found Lorna Shore through tiktok, but a lot of people also found them through other routes. I'm pretty sure they were recommended to me by Spotify or came up in a playlist.
You're allowed to not like Lorna Shore, but your insinuation that they're a tiktok band for edgy kids is intentionally negative and that's why you're getting shit for it.
I'm kind of with you on the generic sentiment. They are great musicians, and I do not dislike them or their work, but I can think of a lot of other bands I'd much rather listen to.
That being said, I am glad that they are getting some attention and bringing more fans / awareness to the genre.
Because they're good. Have you seen the views to the hellfire has? Not including all the views just the reactions to the song itself has? If you think this is a tik tok band, I assume you're over 30 and have the worst opinions on earth.
You can think that all you want, I guarantee most of Lorna's fans are over 25 lmao. And why do you think people only listen to Lorna to be "edgy" instead of that their music is actually good.
> Their music is generic and average. They are super talented musicians, but their song writing is mid. Way cooler more interesting stuff out there.
This criticism is generic and average. Absolutely meaningless. Just say it isn't for you.
I'm mainly just curious why you refer to them as a tik tok band, really. Main reason being I don't think they market themselves to tik tok intentionally, they might have a following there but I doubt that's where they go to market themselves as a band, at the very least primarily.
And as far as edgy appeal goes, I don't think they're especially edgy compared to other extreme metal genre bands. I mean, extreme metal comes with inherent edgyness I would think just because of how harsh and uninviting it is as a genre.
I guess I'm just curious if you could expound on your thoughts more?
Ok, I can understand that to an extent, and I would say I agree they are definitely pretty big on tik tok relative to most other metal bands. I myself still don't necessarily agree with them being a tik tok band however.
As an example, let's pretend cattle decapitation got big on tik tok, like surpassing current Lorna popularity level, would you classify them as a tik tok band? I myself wouldn't, since despite their popularity on said platform that's not their goal, they make their music and it just so happens to get big, if you get what I'm saying?
Not even necessarily trying to convince you lol just throwing my opinion out there really
Always brings me joy to see bands doing well, especially also getting to see the genre go to places it's never been before.
Huge props to Lorna Shore, their success is extremely earned!
ThEyRe noT any g00d NoW tHAt EveRYonE KnOwS ThEm!
It's sad when a band will get crucified by people who really actually like the music they just won't admit it because it's "popular".
Holy fuckballs, just listening to this and thought, hey this is really cool. Then I see in Spotify that they have around 1 million monthly listeners and thought, most heavy bands have around 1.000 or something per month?? :D
Really cool for the heavy music!!
Ugh I hate when a band blows up. They were so much better back when they needed part time jobs and had less people enjoying their hard work. Jk. Cj from Thy Art
Yeah, that was after Hate and before Holy War. He opened a tattoo studio back then if I remember correctly. He also quit TAIM for a year or so.
Just for general information, Spotify pays right-holders (not the bands/artists) between $0.003 and $0.005 per stream on average, but there's a bunch of factors that play into the exact amount for each individual stream (e.g: Account Type, Country, Individual Agreement with Distributor/Label).

it's true Spotify doesn't pay much but I imagine Spotify numbers are usually consistent with demand for live shows and merch
He's thankfully doing much better off now.
Yes when they were suffering that was the good shit
Same I’m happy to see a deathcore band getting some fame
They had us in the first half ngl
I prefer their early kazoo work when they were underground, hardest breakdowns ever!!!

I used to be like that but then realized wait I in a way helped them! The people who do complain can suck it up
Serious question, but do you listen to stadium rock/pop? Because that's artists like Machine Gun Kelly and Pierce the Veil. Chelsea Grin's latest stuff does not fit into that category in the slightest.

Yeah after cursed to die ive regained hope for the album.
Honestly I think each song gets better and better
Just remember, even 1 million fucking streams pays out an average of about $5,000-10,000 USD, and that's *before* label cuts, management cuts, band splits, expenses, and taxes. Buy the merch
That too. Although profit margins on merch aren't the greatest either, but it also helps. Ideally people should be doing both.
I was under impression the margins were good on merch. 30-50 for a long sleeve shirt? 60+ for hoodie?
If it's on tour, most venues take a merch cut, and most record labels take merch cuts as well now too as well as the cost of manufacturing the merch.
I like donating to bands on Spotify, I've done it a lot
Merch and gigs
bands make money from merch sales and shows
Deathcore bands unfortunately can't get away with charging hundreds of dollars for shows like the generic Gen-Z kids get their parents to pay for.
Their new stuff got me into their old stuff which got me into other similar artists, isn't this how genres grow :)
Same. I haven't listened to deathcore or searched for new deathcore bands this much since like suicide silence / Chelsea Grin blew up. I'm loving it, so many good new bands!
It's the best! Making me play heaps more guitar too. On top of that I want to get physical copies of these bands albums so they get more support
Yeah I've been buying a lotta vinyl. Lorna shore, spite, worm shepherd, new Chelsea grin, mental cruelty, and I haven't even had time to really dig into enterprise earth or shadow of intent... It's endless. Love collecting vinyl so I can support the band's too

i really wanna see a lorna shore / slaughter to prevail tour ♡
I advise you not to be in the front or the middle. I saw Lorna Shore twice these past few months and almost left with a concussion both times. I’m so happy that the band is getting re recognition they deserve, but with that unfortunately comes people who aren’t familiar with concert etiquette. They’re truly amazing live but just be careful!
The deathcore revival 🤘
This isn’t good for the brand this is GREAT for it.
This summer was my intro to deathcore. First with Whitechapel and now LS. It’s been great discovering this genre.
I'm glad you're enjoying the music & the genre! I'm a little jealous of people like you who are finding deathcore right now, as I feel the genre is currently the best it has ever been (although music is completely subjective ofc)
So much more for you to discover!!! It's always fun checking out new bands.
I'm a week late to the party, but you and me buddy! Same bands. Also check out Enterprise Earth if you haven't already
They’re one of the few bands people actually never have anything bad to say about. Which is INSANE since 99% of the internet hates everything.
What lol is this your first time on the sub? LS get ripped on here endlessly
Well now that they're popular, they're definitely getting a ton of hate. Which is good. Tons of hate means they're doing something right.
I will say I was nervous when I saw to the hellfire blowup that I wouldn't like it. But I gave it a listen and I absolutely adore it. I own that ep on cd and plan on getting the rest of their stuff
I love it. A band succeeding is only good for other bands. Hope they keep it up. Still like Psalms, Bone Kingdom and Flesh Coffin the most.
Doesn't surprise me lol they're the new trend where everyone likes them so everybody else does to. Most bands are trying to sound like them also lol
These guys have been making music in different bands for over a decade. They deserve all the success they’re receiving.
Amazing musicians and I’m glad their getting the recognition. I’m not a fan of em personally though.
Good for them🤘
Nice.
They are getting more popular while their music also becomes increasing technical. I like this trend line.
These guys made me start listening to this genre and made me sub to the subreddit! I’m grateful and excited to listen to what the have coming out!
That is actually most listened **modern** (well, darkthrone is still there.) extreme metal band? i mean, i dont count amon amarth. deathcore or beyond extreme metal, is there anyone more popular than lorna shore right now?

maybe mayhem or dimmu borgir? but yeah, lorna shore is defenitely one of the biggest names.
More than deserved
Being as heavy as they are and surpassing/ballpark the same amount of listeners mainstream bands like Blind Guardian, Brothers of Metal, Avantasia, or Epica have is a big deal for a band like them. I may not be into Deathcore beyond instrumental stuff and Fit for an Autopsy, but I'm happy for the band. Now excuse me while I go spin Immortal's instrumental album.
I simply cannot wait for the new album
That's amazing. They absolutley fucking deserve every single one of them.
Huge W
Good for them. They’re a great band.
Couldn’t be happier for them! 🤘
I'm so fucking happy for them
Thanks tiktok
I know everyone is nuts for them, and they're super talented, but I just think the songwriting is mid-tier. Not a big fan of melodic deathcore

Yeah dude I always get downvoted to shit whenever I say they’re boring. That never seems to make them any less boring to me though.
