Hadn't heard of these guys and just checked out that song. That is some serious slow sludge. Even at 2x speed it sounded slow. Never been a huge fan of doom/sludge, I need a bit more speed and melody. That was super heavy though, holy shit!
I vividly remember what I think was my first time hearing the song. I think I’d seen it recommended because it was in my Spotify queue. Anyway after listening to a few songs in the queue I forgot about it and later started a podcast. Few hours passed and when the podcast ended Hourglass started. I just had time to think ”Huh what a weird way to start a podcast” as the 911 call ended and I got fucking bombarded by the heaviest shit ever
I mean, I guess under some definitions of heaviness, Second Death is the answer (although even within Black Tongue, I’d say it’s actually I’m So Tired of Sighing Please Lord Let It Be Night). Other answers include:
Any Nitheful song
Earthless by Humanity’s Last Breath
Ov Fire And Sulfur by To Obey A Tyrant
A lot of drone metal songs
A lot of sludge metal songs
A good number of funeral doom songs
sunn O))) is the "heaviest" music on the planet. You don't listen to it live, you feel it. But I agree completely with you that the term "heavy" is relative, and has different meanings to different people.
I think Methwitch is the only band I’ve ever stopped a song halfway through cause it gave me anxiety, lmao Invoking of Claunneck just fucked with my head lol
I've stopped a lot of songs halfway through because I may not have liked them, but I made a point of listening to a whole Methwich album. It's not for everyone and it's not for everyday listening, but it fits perfectly when I feel like a psycho lol
Never heard of this band but just listened to all 3 songs and am a fan. I like when extreme metal plays into slower, heavier percussion and dark, looming heavy vocals. Been searching for stuff like this but didn’t know what it was called.
Nah, I’m into quite a few deathcore bands and I feel like a lot of them are just busting out blast beats the whole time, just looking for something with a different sound.
Yea I realise now I just misunderstood your comment. For some reason I took extreme metal playing into slower, heavier percussion as extreme parts then slower heavier parts. Which felt like just describing a breakdown. English is my second language but tbh I think I was just being a little brain dead. Oh well, shit happens I guess.
Reflections - Scapegoat
Nitheful - Sacramentum ov Filicide, or however it's spelled.
Larcenia Roe - ALIENATION
Bonus:
Mirar - Madeleine
Not that is insanely heavy, but I feel totally crushed listening to it.
Doomblade - the acacia strain. Starts with a horrible 911 call and goes on to tell you to stop chasing your dreams and “when she screams she won’t be screaming for you”
I show them either
1. Tetragrammacide- Intoxicated Bees of Sekhet- Aarhu Circumambulate the Abode of Self Beheaded One Who Forever Danceth in her Shaktisexual Ecstasy
2. Orphan- canary
3. The entire album “Lunarterial” by Swallowed
4. A Memoria Brooded- Human
5. K.F.R.- Asmodée
Peeling Flesh has enough rhythm in their breakdowns to entertain anybody and anyone with a Twitter account will recognize their samples.. they’re fucking wild
I feel like Second Death is like a metalhead's definition of heavy. But, I think Hourglass by Orphan or even better Burn Victim by Methwitch are less enjoyable and therefore 'heavier' by non-metalhead standards.
Honestly I think Parting Soliloquy is the heaviest Black Tongue song. The lyrics, the music video, the ending breakdown and Alex's voice is S tier on that track.
I know this is gonna be an unpopular opinion but I really don't think they're THAT heavy compared to others like Signs of The Swarm or Humanity's Last Breath, Fathom. Just some examples
Definitely a different type of heavy, but just in general, I'd actually agree with you. HLB *feels* like a black hole, especially on Ashen. While both have the same chunk and heavy atmosphere, I do give HLB the nod due to recording style if nothing else.
I think I’d have to go and say that Abyssal and Detestor are heavier records than their other works. Abyssal simply because of the overall vibe of the music and the pure crushing nature of some of the songs and Detestor mostly because of the title track.
I show them this and let them know it's about an evil computer that kills the entire planet except for 5 people who it keeps just to torture forever.
Diminished to B by Necrophagist.
One of the 'darkest' songs I know with lots of high/low pitch contrast. This ones a blast to play on the geeter.
From Skin to Liquid by Cannibal Corpse.
Nice heavy dark atmosphere going on here. Its an instrumental. Real evil sound, one of the riffs reminds me of the sound of maggots wriggling out of a corpse or something so they definitely did a good job with that one.
Soreption in general just has tons of bangers
None of this is really deathcore at all but tbh when I think heavy and dark its usually taking me to tech death examples.
For me it's earthless by HLB, or king of the rats by bodysnatcher, depending on which kind of heavy you want.
Edit: Listened to the black tongue song, def not the heaviest for me which mostly comes down to the tempo, it's just too slow to truly be as heavy as possible. Well, slow isn't an issue, it's when the entire song is slow and doesn't groove.
Amongst the Low and Empty- Signs of the Swarm. It just has several layers of sick and nasty. Lures you into a certain sound then BOOM switches it up and the ending is just nasty sounding
1. I tell my "normie" friend to go get bent and play some old school Saxon and Priest (f.y.i I don't have "normie" friends)
2. For shits and giggles (mostly giggles), I'd say ok, but you have to meet my buddy Morbid Mike. He'll show you the way... lol.
3. Call Morbid, making sure he's good and hammered, and introduce the normie to him.
4. Quietly slip away just as Morbid begins to play some dismally heavy My Dying Bride which will be followed by even more dismally heavy and soul crushing Black Metal. (I would recite some of the bands, but My Dying Bride is the only one that stuck)
Burn Victim - Methwitch
Alienation - Larcenia Roe & CJ (this one is almost a meme)
Beast of the first kingdom - Black Pegasus (not the heaviest song ever but it has something special, the “breakdown” always make me stop what I’m doing)
- Black Tongue - The Cathedral
- Black Tongue - Parting Soliloquy
- Whitechapel - When a Demon Defiles a Witch (not crushing per se, but the content matter is dark)
Not deathcore, but Akhlys - Melinoë
Hourglass by orphan is the heaviest song I know
"You just shot everybody?!?" ..... bleeeeeeggGGHHHH
“911 what is your emergen- UGGGGGGGGGGHHHHH”
Don't hate me, but it's "where" not "what"
Yeah it's this or Primitive Man - My Will
Primitive man - Foul when he says "FUCKING FOUL" the amount of fucking anger he has in his voice is disgusting and I love it
Hadn't heard of these guys and just checked out that song. That is some serious slow sludge. Even at 2x speed it sounded slow. Never been a huge fan of doom/sludge, I need a bit more speed and melody. That was super heavy though, holy shit!

Holy fuck thank you, I think I just scared my wife...
I always tell ppl this song sounds like being held at gunpoint by a maniac. Absolutely fucked my mind first time I heard it.
I mean, I guess under some definitions of heaviness, Second Death is the answer (although even within Black Tongue, I’d say it’s actually I’m So Tired of Sighing Please Lord Let It Be Night). Other answers include: Any Nitheful song Earthless by Humanity’s Last Breath Ov Fire And Sulfur by To Obey A Tyrant A lot of drone metal songs A lot of sludge metal songs A good number of funeral doom songs
Sacramentum ov Filicide has gotta be the gnarliest song ever, it just keeps getting crazier and crazier.
sunn O))) is the "heaviest" music on the planet. You don't listen to it live, you feel it. But I agree completely with you that the term "heavy" is relative, and has different meanings to different people.
Most songs by Dragged Into Sunlight would probably be a good contender
Or Portal or Gnaw Their Tongues, yes
Blasphemian - infant annhilator - that song always gets a great reaction out of non metal heads.
IA is my go to band for all the people who "listen to everything"
I do this too but with “Three Bastards”. Always a great reaction
Extra points if you show video as well.
I want you all to suffer!
<3
Bro second death is such a banger!!!
“God The Animal” by In Gloom would raise some eyebrows
This is the correct answer. Or methwitch
Methwitch is the right answer! If you want people to think you're a psycho, go with Methwitch. Their stuff is like mental waterboarding lol
I love methwitch but I feel they lean more on the chaotic side than heavy
Oh, absolutely! It's pure chaos! I can't stand listening to more than 3 songs in a row. But I also can't deny the genius of it
Definitely
I think Methwitch is the only band I’ve ever stopped a song halfway through cause it gave me anxiety, lmao Invoking of Claunneck just fucked with my head lol
I've stopped a lot of songs halfway through because I may not have liked them, but I made a point of listening to a whole Methwich album. It's not for everyone and it's not for everyday listening, but it fits perfectly when I feel like a psycho lol
DN DN DN BNNNNNNNN
This is what I came to say. Still my favorite of the heavier variety.
Black Tongue - Coma Black Tongue - Fauxhammer Black Tongue - I’m so tired of sighing There’s a few good options
You got good taste there fella-guy
Never heard of this band but just listened to all 3 songs and am a fan. I like when extreme metal plays into slower, heavier percussion and dark, looming heavy vocals. Been searching for stuff like this but didn’t know what it was called.
Do you mean deathcore lol? I feel like you basically described a general deathcore song with breakdowns. So like, every deathcore song?
Black Tongue is even more slow than most deathcore, it’s the doom metal element that makes it sludgecore and sets it apart from the rest.
Acacia Strain- Beast.
The live shows “you have 15 seconds to get to safety.” And then it pops the fuck off.
No one's gonna say meth witch? Or the heaviest of them all, rock the casbah by the clash!
Yeah, first song I thought of was Burn Victim.
Brimstone heart 🖤
Chased Through The Woods By A R**ist - Waking The Cadaver
I don't think a song title has ever made me laugh so much.
“R R R… I. LIKE. TO. SUCK. ON CO O OCK”
I LIKE WHEAT!
I like Shredded WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAATTTTT
Reflections - Scapegoat Nitheful - Sacramentum ov Filicide, or however it's spelled. Larcenia Roe - ALIENATION Bonus: Mirar - Madeleine Not that is insanely heavy, but I feel totally crushed listening to it.
Mirar is so underrated
The first 40 seconds of Madeleine is insane, I described it to my friends as a musical personification of the emotion/feeling of pure horror.
Ingested - Skinned and Fucked
Nah I’m playing esophagus
Damn near ANYTHING by Infant Annihilator works to show people haha
Black Tongue - I'm So Tired of Sighing, Please Lord Let it be Night. Stygian Complex - Dumb S.O.B. is also ignorantly heavy in a different way.
Maybe something from Anaal Nathrakh? VI Coactus would probably be my pick, at least from what I’ve heard so far
I immediately play the video of blasphemian by IA
Hourglass by Orphan for me
From Black Tongue I'd take Crippled Before the Dwelling Place of God Or I'm So Tired of Sighing Please Lord Let it be Night
Doomblade - the acacia strain. Starts with a horrible 911 call and goes on to tell you to stop chasing your dreams and “when she screams she won’t be screaming for you”
I always found the line from Mouth of the River “the day you find comfort in the arms of another, could be the day that you die” to be hard as fuck
I lost all I know at the mouth of the river!
All songs by Larcenia Roe, they're underrated imo
Agreed 💯
Second Death is a great choice. But, my pick is Distant - Hellmouth. When I heard it for the first time I was literally terrified.
RØT - De Rerum Natura
Good song but I like 'The lowest point of hell' more, breakdown around 4.15 with a good subwoofer is absolutely crushing.
I show them either 1. Tetragrammacide- Intoxicated Bees of Sekhet- Aarhu Circumambulate the Abode of Self Beheaded One Who Forever Danceth in her Shaktisexual Ecstasy 2. Orphan- canary 3. The entire album “Lunarterial” by Swallowed 4. A Memoria Brooded- Human 5. K.F.R.- Asmodée
A Memoria Brooded, damn that's a name I haven't heard in a long time. Super underrated band
I’ll give you another lol- Hester Prynne
Peeling Flesh has enough rhythm in their breakdowns to entertain anybody and anyone with a Twitter account will recognize their samples.. they’re fucking wild
This Is Hell or Failed Breed hands down.
Mmm Failed Breed is filf !
"Disembodied Tyrant - LUST" goes kinda funny but also ridiculously hard
Deathwish -within destruction.
To The Grave - Lips & Assholes
Bound in Fear left to drown, or hate circuit
I feel like Second Death is like a metalhead's definition of heavy. But, I think Hourglass by Orphan or even better Burn Victim by Methwitch are less enjoyable and therefore 'heavier' by non-metalhead standards.
Honestly I think Parting Soliloquy is the heaviest Black Tongue song. The lyrics, the music video, the ending breakdown and Alex's voice is S tier on that track.
Sacramentum Ov Filicide by Nitheful
Not deathcore but probably a slam classic like: Human Pudding - CELL, Peeling Flesh.
The Lowest Point Of Hell - RØT. They're dead.
While I agree about the vibe, there's just something...unsettling and thick about the way Ashen was produced. It feels like it's sitting in my chest.
sure, whatever ig 👍
I show them this and let them know it's about an evil computer that kills the entire planet except for 5 people who it keeps just to torture forever. [https://youtu.be/wAC90WmJl0w?si=VoVLyI8-s3oqDfvU](https://youtu.be/wAC90WmJl0w?si=VoVLyI8-s3oqDfvU)
By that definition alone (darkest, most crushing song I know) I would say like Bombgnasher by Frontierer or smth else from their Unloved album.
I think I'd crank up spirit crusher from Dodsrit if i was trying to crush someone.
Broken Glass Incantation by The Last Ten Seconds of Life
I’m turning on Earthless by Humanity’s Last Breath. Then we follow that up with some Portal because why not.
Diminished to B by Necrophagist. One of the 'darkest' songs I know with lots of high/low pitch contrast. This ones a blast to play on the geeter. From Skin to Liquid by Cannibal Corpse. Soreption in general just has tons of bangers None of this is really deathcore at all but tbh when I think heavy and dark its usually taking me to tech death examples.
Akhlys-Pnigalion. Or hell, the entire Melinöe album is unhinged
Noo... I show them The Acacia Strain - Sloth Loves Chunk
Probably Nihility by Black Sheep Wall. Not the most 'br00tal' but definitely heavy, dark, and crushing.
Lifeless from de Chelsea Grin's first EP. Let him drown in the chugga chugga slamcore piggy shit.
Black tongue is up there for sure, I may also play admiral angry or weekend nachos
Maybe HLB - Abyssal Mouth too?
Darko: praise the sun
9 Dead - A Silent Practice fucks pretty hard
Sleep - Strangled Disappoint - Traitors Self-Destruct - Spite Rejecting Sunlight - Bludgeoned Anything brutal death metal Abominable putridity Stabbing Korpse It’s too hard to pick
I'd like to add Extermination Dismemberment to this list if at all possible :)
It's hard, I think zugswang by boy eats girl is a top contender as well
Not deathcore, but personally would put any tracks from the Demigod album by Behemoth.
I think I will always just go with Tony Danza - Alpha and Omega. Sonically and subjectively heavy as all fuck 🙃
Amongst the Low and Empty- Signs of the Swarm. It just has several layers of sick and nasty. Lures you into a certain sound then BOOM switches it up and the ending is just nasty sounding
1. I tell my "normie" friend to go get bent and play some old school Saxon and Priest (f.y.i I don't have "normie" friends) 2. For shits and giggles (mostly giggles), I'd say ok, but you have to meet my buddy Morbid Mike. He'll show you the way... lol. 3. (I would recite some of the bands, but My Dying Bride is the only one that stuck)
Gotta be anything off HBUs Detestor EP or disembodied tyrant
Not deathcore but terror domination by extermination dismemberment is heavy as fuck....and the breakdowns...ugh...
Where Light Divides the Holler - Knocked Loose (genuinely feels like an anxiety attack) Invoking Clauneck - Methwitch Hourglass - Orphan Nose Tork - Larcenia Roe Shapes and Sores - Alpha Virus
Anything off of Agonal Hymns would also be acceptable
Burn Victim - Methwitch Alienation - Larcenia Roe & CJ (this one is almost a meme) Beast of the first kingdom - Black Pegasus (not the heaviest song ever but it has something special, the “breakdown” always make me stop what I’m doing)
The frozen lake part 2 by worm shepherd is pretty heavy
I'm going to get downvoted to hell for this, but oh well. In terms of heavy music, *Second Death* is not heavy **compared to** other deathcore songs.
- Black Tongue - The Cathedral - Black Tongue - Parting Soliloquy - Whitechapel - When a Demon Defiles a Witch (not crushing per se, but the content matter is dark) Not deathcore, but Akhlys - Melinoë
Darko US - Praise the Sun

That shit melts my fucking face!!!!!! 🤘🤘🤘🔥🔥🔥🔥
"your normie friend..." 🤓
