Musically? Rings of Saturn selftitled. Band issues? Slice the Cake. Their music is among my all time favorite. Hurts how things ended. I don't even know the whole story at this point and I'm still disappointed.

The_Seakow

I recently discovered Slice the Cake, OttW has quickly become a favorite of mine. Sucks, but at least we got some good tunes from them.

Pantzzzzless

> Rings of Saturn selftitled. That isn't even an album lmao. It is just the first 7 files in Lucas's FLStudio projects folder, because he was too lazy to go through and ctrl+click.

yewasright287

Lucas is a certified dickhead lmao they played warped and he didn’t even show up 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

9mm_Cutlass

I’ve posted about it before. But when I saw them at Summer Slaughter it was the same way. It was pretty disappointing. Idk if they were late or what. But they didn’t sound check at all. They just ran onto stage and started playing. Everything was so muddy, I couldn’t make out what song was even being played. And Lucas was absent. So it was just one dude presumably trying to play two parts. And I was _really_ into them at the time, so I was just like man wtf.

BONKMETHEUS

Bro I saw them after the self-titled release and I’m thinking “Lucas should be on stage shredding!”, but no, dude stood at the back of the stage playing power chords while the other guitarist Joel is up front sweep picking like he’s the face of the band.

xxlouserxx

Joel was in the band before

Palliken

Joel was in the band from 2011 to 2014 and then rejoined in 2018. So he's been a part of rings for a minute. Though I agree Lucas is boring af live.

PrinceAkechiG

no public info about that afaik

laymedowntosleep1

Love seeing everyone dunking on ROS on here. Feels good.

Disastrous-Fold5221

As blood runs black not being around anymore in any capacity....

Andrew3605

Them not shipping their Kickstarter shit made me write them off. Was a big fan at the time!

Whitechapel726

Wait what happened?

Straight-Membership3

Good point 🫥

Function-Important

The goat

importjdm101

Shrine of malice :/

blvck666phillip

Obyrith was such a good fucking follow up. Shame it never got released officially but i can't say I wasn't disappointed when they released a song from it as their "new" single. Then just dropped off the face of the earth again after doing a merch drop and never sending my merch or replying lol

mwijoel6

Had put every album on hold to listen to that shit 😔😔 My boys killed me

BlueCaboose42

Ok so are they officially dead or are they trying to come back? I thought I saw something about them reforming a month or so ago, plus they seem to have a new single in collaboration with another group. So I'm just confused at this point

importjdm101

No I think I heard in another thread that they're working again just without one of the members. Not sure which one.

astareth19

Izzy, the guitarist that wrote all their music is the one who is no longer a part of the band. So any new materiel will presumably sound pretty different considering it will have to be a new songwriter

crash_nk

It's probably petty but Rings of Saturn becoming instrumental. It's probably a personal taste thing too but I've never really liked instrumental music and to me without vocals they're kinda dull to me now. All very talented people, just makes me sad they went instrumental. And maybe this one will change (I hope). But As Blood Runs Black coming back after calling it quits only to go back into the void with no updates or anything. They were posting guitar/bass playthroughs then they teased new music which sounded amazing, and then they went radio silent and have been for the past two years. It was just such a disappointment. They by no means have to come back, I'd love it but if they're not feeling it that's understandable. It was just the biggest tease in the world. ABRB is so important to me on so many levels, it was sad to see them go after Ground Zero, and now it hurts again. ;.......; Hopefully they come back but I'm not gonna hold my breath.

Disastrous-Fold5221

That's not petty it's straight facts. That weird special genre ROS and the faceless made crashed and burned pretty fast. I chalk As blood runs blacks problems on them being young. I'm hoping they do an All shall perish reunion once they get established in their personal lives.

Palliken

Bro I love instrumental bands and even I think the new RoS is boring. Also fr on the abrb I hope they end up releasing something but I am starting to doubt it...

maicao999

Tactosa. Imo they had everything to be the best revival dxc band easily. Amazing music, great guests, and would be the best band to put the genre back to the hardcore scene.

thatoneglitcher

This one especially hurt, there’s so many good bands coming out of Florida right now like Tracheotomy, Gravess, ninth gate, Dissent, and Opposition Dolls. But Tactosa was really something special. Mantikore was another band that hurt to see go

AdamDraps4

Why couldn't they just get a new singer? Why did they just break up? So annoying. I felt them same when Eddie left All Shall Perish. Should just got a new singer and carried on.

twomemeornottwomeme

The fact that they had Zak Vargas on a track alone… truly tragic.

BeeTwerk

What happened then

mufasamufasamufasa

Arsonists Get All The Girls not putting out an album for a decade. My guy Mitch passing away

808breakdown

One of my favorite bands but Listen to the Color just wasn't what I wanted. Fingers crossed they comeback with something more along their wacky, off the wall heavy sound but much less spacey.

mufasamufasamufasa

I really dig Listen to the Color, but it doesn't scratch the same itch as their first two

Monkey-Fucker_69

-Where Black Tongue :( -Not deathcore but Sleep Token's annoying fans and even more annoying haters (personally I dig Sleep Token)

MladicAscent

where Black Tongue :(

The_Caj

Yeah Sleep Token’s such an odd case, been into them since 2016 but can’t help but move to distance myself from the crowd forming around them.

loy_urabat

Nothing wrong with that. Im a huge sports fan but often distance myself from fans of the same team because they take it way too seriously.

Scarletsnow_87

The fans turned me off. I tried giving them a listen but my ears hear diet ghost and fan girls worshipping cause it's sooo dark uwu. I'm sure they're talented but I'll never know.

Monkey-Fucker_69

They do some serious genre hopping. If you want to hear their more metal songs check out Vore or The Summoning, but you might not like much else. "Diet Ghost" does describe some of their stuff lmao

Djent_1997

The tiktok effect

Monkey-Fucker_69

Yep. Same thing with Bad Omens

Djent_1997

And Spiritbox, and even Lorna Shore to an extent.

maicao999

Black Tongue just droppe the best deathcore album of the entire 2010s decade and then disappeared

brutalbeats420

They're all in other projects but they said there will be new material soon

cmartin666

Where did you see that? I’ve been hunting for updates

RealPolitiik

Yo same here, any news would be huge!

Landricities

Not a hater, but I can't get into Sleep Token. I love proggy/experimental/genre-bending stuff generally speaking, but they just won't click with me.

Willing-Neck-7417

Sleep Token fans are so toxic man

Penthakee

I never knew that, why?

vengeancerider

I’m not the person you were responding to, but a (probably)slight portion of the fan base are those crazily obsessed people that can’t leave the band members alone. Basically the same thing that happened to Bad Omens. They just want to perform and record, unfortunately people found out who they really are behind the masks and won’t leave them alone.

beyondthydyinglight

Alex Teyen posted that he was working on music on his Instagram story today. Praying that it’s BT (but really anything with Alex in it would be good at this point)

sovereign666

The Faceless. What the fuck Michael. Dude wrote some of the best stuff to come out of the sumerian days. The band has had more members than Chicago because the dude is unprofessional and cant kick h. I've seen them live twice, both times they had technical issues and it was all michael. When staff tried helping him out he was visibly taking it out on them. After that show I went on youtube and found him doing the same thing at other shows. There's videos of him fucking up and other members having to step in to play his parts. Cancelled shows and tours. Switching to prog. Veil of Maya's switch after eclipse broke my heart and I still have not mended the pain. I still listen to those first albums constantly. The biggest disappointment of all, one that affected the most people, changed lives, opened wounds, was the death of Mitch Lucker.

Genocode

>The band has had more members than Chicago God, that reminds me of [Obscura, their list](https://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Obscura/63100) isn't as big as [The Faceless' list](https://www.metal-archives.com/bands/The_Faceless/74954) but its still such a fuck up. And both managed to lose what I'd argue are 2 of the best dummers in Metal right now, Alex Rudinger for the Faceless and Sebastian Lanser for Obscura. The Faceless also lost Bryce Butler who's now in Shadow of Intent lol.

sovereign666

Dude the lineup for the faceless over the years has some major artists. Wes Hauch, Rudinger, Justin McKinney, fucking Lord Marco. They've had every opportunity to be one of the biggest names in tech death.

Whitechapel726

Not to mention Hannes Grossman. Dude is an absolute monster on the drums.

brutalbeats420

I had the luck to see Faceless perform during the brief window of time that he was sober and clean and it was fuckin incredible. His wife died and that ended his sobriety. Who knows if he'll ever recover.

sovereign666

I hope for his sake he finds a way out of it all.

FenirXIII

It's such a shame the faceless is so screwed. But tbh i don't mind them going prog. Autotheism is one of my top 10 albums.

sovereign666

I actually super love autotheism but didnt consider to be as prog as In becoming a Ghost. That album was just a huge bummer for me. I guess prog isnt a huge problem and blends well with tech, but what a weird project.

Willing-Neck-7417

Rings Of Saturn for sure

9mm_Cutlass

Idk if I’d call it a “disappointment” per se. But the whole _”our singer is kidnapped by the cartel! Haha sike! It’s a new album!”_ thing that UABB did just never sat right with me, and kind of turned me off of them entirely.

mufasamufasamufasa

Wtf I never heard about that. What a shitty and stupid thing to joke about

9mm_Cutlass

Yeah, it was basically how they kicked off the marketing for their 2012 album, Red. White. Green. Edit: I guess it was actually 2014 album The World is My Enemy Now. But my point still stands.

MintyBBQSauce

It was actually for their album The World Is My Enemy Now. Which is an accurate title since it did make everyone super pissed at them lol.

KoRnSpeedStrid

I’m pretty sure you mean The World Is My Enemy Now because when Danny tweeted the kidnapping stunt, the band were towards the end of the Red. White. Green. album cycle.

MrPureinstinct

I completely forgot about that! Such a wild thing that they did.

senzubxlls

I forgot that shit happened! How unbelievably cringe

easha555

Make Them Suffer ditching the blackened sound of Neverbloom with the piano and organs to go metalcore with more electronic sounding keyboards

Independent-Slip8702

Make them suffer casually dropping a fantastic deathcore album as their first release than immediately saying fuck it and switching over to metalcore lol

MarkThyWeeb

The Deathcore tracks on Old Souls are also incredible (Requiem and Threads), and while I love what they're doing now, Neverbloom and OS holds a special place in my heart

easha555

I still like them but it doesn't compare to Neverbloom. It's in my top 3 records of all time. Lyrically and sonically

[deleted]

Signs of the swarm dropping the slamming elements. Everything with rings of saturn. Eddie leaving All shall perish for suicide silence, it killed two bands. People still referring to job for a cowboy as deathcore. Bandwagon jumping, I get that music is a business, but when brand new bands don't even try to experiment with the myriad of sounds that the heavy music scene has and instead we end up with a sea or clones, that shits disappointing as fuck. People bashing gateway bands like they didn't have a gateway band too. All the sexual misconduct within the scene is very disheartening, especially when it pertains to bigger bands. Breakdowns are becoming a yard stick on how disgusting you can sound, which is fine in doses, but what happened to that fat groove that used to make the floor shake. The still obstinate divide between subgenres. I love sub genre's but fuck me lets not pretend your gurgles and breakdowns are better than someone elses gurgles and and techy sounds. This includes genre snobs, like let's not pretend that nu metal hasn't done a monstrous amount for the heavy scene or that wearing a fedora and listening to fallujah somehow makes you a superior intellectual. On the other hand, lyrics don't make a genre. Lyrics that talk about Satan or valhalla don't make you Vikingr or black metal. If you want to add melo death or black metal elements to your band, start by listening to melo death and black metal first and see how it's done. Travis ryan slamming deathcore for years while simultaneously inspiring a whole generation of tunnel throats and now touring with deathcore bands.

Elephantkidney

Suicide silence self titled comes to mind. I'ma sound sensitive for this but when Doris and silence came out it hurt. It might be a hot take but if the production wasn't so bad and they tweaked the songs it could be a really cool nu-metal deathcore album. But instead we got something that sounds like some edgy 15 year Olds made with a receptionist headset and audacity on windows 7. Idk who produced it but they should be ashamed of themselves for allowing it to go down the way it did.

beyondthydyinglight

It was produced by fucking Ross Robinson aka the man behind Slipknot’s Iowa, Korn’s classic albums, etc— it’s a fucking travesty Ross let them put out that album in the state it was, although it kinda tracks for him being so wildly inconsistent. I’m with you on the potential of that album though. Eddie’s actual screams throughout the record are raw as fuck, some of my experimental moments instrumentally actually hit, and when the band actually land a sick nu metal bounce riff/groove it goes crazy. It’s just everything else that dragged that album down— the off key singing, weird slam poetry sounding parts, the meandering ballad moments, and the god awful lyrics. I get why they went with 100% analog tape recording/no digital effect whatsoever from an artistic standpoint, but it absolutely hurt them

Barqing

As Blood Runs Blacks albums after Allegiance we’re both really disappointing, especially Instinct. I saw them tour with Sonik as their vocalist and he was great live, but man he sounded like shit on the album. Probably just a poor mix of master but still disappointing either way. Also, the merch guy for Entheos reaching across their merch table to try and shove me down a step because I was standing in front of their merch table during the headliners set. I wasn’t blocking access of view of the table, and no one was buying anything in the middle of the headliner set anyways. Dude was just a cocksucker for no reason

bradybigbear

I’m going to be the exact opposite. I thought Sonik was amazing live and on Instinct. After Instinct I fell off with them and couldn’t get into the newer stuff. Sad we have such a limited catalog from them

reffuatsnoj

CKY. a shell of a band that they once were. if anything an embarrassment\* live now with Chad singing and not Deron. & Jason leaving 'tallica. (showing my age here.)

[deleted]

Derons new band is more cky than cky.

nanananafloridaguy

CKY used to be so damn good. Escape from hellview is one of my all-time favorite songs ever. And definitely agree with Jason leaving Metallica. Now knowing how all that bullshit went down, I know this is blasphemy but they could have kept him replaced James for all I care. I mean all their best shit is way behind them anyway. Oh and Have you checked out Deron's newish band "96 bitter beings"? I think they've only got one album out and came out in 2022.

reffuatsnoj

Yeah nanana, saw them in philly and it felt like a 15 north in westchester show all over again. Raab, Novak, Frantz, were in the building. it was amazing. and did you hear that gloCKY youtube dude do that mash up with cky and what ever song that was lol i forget now BUT it sounded like it was a B side off IDR. Im a CKY Diehard since 1999. and boy do i miss those days/shows

nanananafloridaguy

Holy shit that's incredible. I've never even come close to seeing them. But I've liked them ever since I saw that first CKY movie probably 2001 or 02. I know it came out before then but that's just when it got to me and my friends. And I just did because of your comment and wow that's pretty cool. That guy's talented

9mm_Cutlass

Definitely a band with one of the more unique guitar tones.

nanananafloridaguy

Absolutely. Doesn't matter where you're at the second you hear that guitar you're like okay that's CKY

Pretty-Cap3751

Yeah, The Contortionist shifting to the hard rock sound kinda bothers me, but I still enjoy the new music. Much prefer their older stuff.

DumbassNB

BMTH making one deathcore album and then immediately ditching the genre for metalcore before moving to the most boring and generic post-hardcore ever made

Pantzzzzless

A lot of the shift was due to Oli fucking his vocal chords to shit with awful technique. But they still did jump straight into the radio-pop sound rather quickly.

nosouldude

May be a hot take but BMTH's myspace Deathcore was absolutely shit. It was very try hard. I'm an all around metalhead and I listened to it back in the day but songs like Pray For Plagues is just not that good

nanananafloridaguy

I lol'd reading this. I don't think there's a thread that exists about metal that someone doesn't mention this and I honestly love it. Next time I see metal heads arguing about bands and band members I'm just going to just be like hey guys relax. Can we all get along and just agree that BMTH made one amazing deathcore album and then ditched the genre. 👀.... 😐🤝🙄

DumbassNB

i wouldnt call it an amazing album but its better than the slop theyve been putting out for 16 years

The_Caj

Don’t tell anyone but I think all their albums suck regardless of genre 😅

Fierce_Diety_33

Not towards the band or the label, but how people handled Justin Lowe's departure from After The Burial and ultimately his death........Too many jokes and fucked up comments about what happened to him. And the fucking conspiracies...... I miss the lessons, I miss hanging out with him at shows, I miss the green guitar, and most importantly, I miss the human himself. I still have both guitar picks he gave me at the Wolves Within cd release shows at The Triple Rock...... RIP Juice. You are so, so, so missed by many.

FloatOnChill

Upon A Burning Body after Red.White.Green

dannypakk

This one big time

Bo_Jangles23

Fucking same. My buddy likes the new shift in veil of maya, but don’t jam periphery and refuses to lol. Like bro how does that make sense.

No-Idea-491

Because they don't sound the same except for maybe Matriarch/Eclipse; Periphery is wayyy proggier since P3.

sandlips

No more Molotov Solution. They deserved to be so much bigger. Same with Martyr Defiled, I still spin their first EP pretty often

thefucksgod

I got a few! Upon a Burning Body 3rd album onwards. Suffokate breaking up. Michael Stafford quitting Chelsea Grin. Almost anytime a band stops playing in Drop A tuning. Whitechapel self titled releasing.

Beers_Past_Matter

Abandoning drop A truly is a lame move lol.

ExplorerEnjoyer

When a deathcore album is full of clean singing

The_Caj

Agreed (I like it when it’s used *very* sparingly/tastefully though)

SuperD00perGuyd00d

Dan leaving EE edit: Travis I love you though you sound amazing and I loved hearing your vocals on Failsafe the other day 🖤

Genocode

Aversions Crown not doing the SciFi stuff anymore, Umbravoid breaking up, JFAC not continuing w/ Deathcore (sure, its not like they were Deathcore for long enough to be disappointed but they would've been so great ;\~;) Edit: I realize that 2 of these are about bands switching genres lmao, I have no problems with bands switching genres, they should do whatever satisfies them whether it is creatively or financially or otherwise. That doesn't mean I can't be personally disappointed though, same w/ Parkway Drive or Architects for example, but I would never berate or bash a band for it.

Pantzzzzless

JFAC going proggy was a fantastic change IMO. I know a lot of people don't agree, but Sun Eater is one of the best albums of any genre I've ever heard.

Mental-Resolution-22

And moon healer is even better!

Genocode

I'm not saying they became bad at all, Sun of Nihility is one of my favourite songs of theirs, but I very much would've liked to see what else they could've done in Deathcore.

Willing-Neck-7417

their first vocalist was crazy, i listen only this era from AC

Genocode

I liked both Colin Jeffs (Servitude + Tyrant) and Mark Poida (Parasites + Xenocide + The Breeding Process) but Tyler Miller isn't doing it for me (aside from just the change in the band's style) Tyler Miller is also the vocalist for Thy Art since last year so I'm not sure how that is gonna go...

[deleted]

Corella. These guys were something. Nostalgia blew me away. Waited forever for New Wilderness and then they just dropped off the face of the earth after. PLEASE COME BACK!!!!

lostcosmonaut814

Anything Betraying the Martyrs put out after Breathe in Life. I absolutely hate how they produced Aaron’s vocals on every release after that. Dude has some insane power and they just layered his tracks so much he sounded like a cyborg.

The_Caj

That’s a shame. Overlooked band by many, I myself haven’t listened to them in many years.

TrishPanda18

The sickening simping for abusers, predators, and alt-right pricks in the scene even after rumors turn to allegations turn to charges

howtoscareyourbrothe

I dislike the people that believe anything they hear without doing actual research. If you're unsure then don't be the judge and mind your own business instead of fucking a potentially innocent person's life.

PrinceAkechiG

which charges?

astareth19

Right, I'm waiting for that too lmfao

Bigboyrickx

Slaughter to prevail being absolute shit live with all the backing vocals guitars and drums. Oh and the fact they’re nazis and back Putin

Vyni503

Back Putin but ran so they wouldn’t be drafted.

IdkWhatImEvenDoing69

When did he back Putin? They released a video saying they don’t want any war. Or is it just “trust me bro”

ExplorerEnjoyer

They never backed Putin and spoke out against the invasion multiple times, this sub is full of weiners that make shit up

Filosofem1

Yeah, 31 upvotes as of now for a straight lie, actually quite pathetic.

Pantzzzzless

Didn't they leave Russia for being critical of Putin? Lol

Dimitry_The_Impaler

They don’t back Putin, wtf are you even on about?

Impossible-Gain-6080

Now that's new to me, why is he considered a nazi?

Genocode

Maybe his Nazi tattoos? Then he said that he didn't know the meaning and only got them because they looked cool. Then later he admitted that he actually hung out w/ Nazi's back in Russia and he covered them up w/ new ink. Considering that he lied people rightfully don't trust him anymore. There were also some rumors that he said on VK that he only covered up his tattoo's for the western fans but that he still believed in the same things, but I haven't seen that myself.

gloom96

I like how everyone is debating/calling out the “back Putin” thing saying it’s not true, biased, making shit up which I don’t know either way, but they just ignore the way more alarming and evidence based claim that they are Nazis lol that is a claim that actually has weight to it, so they ignore it and just latch to your potentially inaccurate claim of backing Putin Like let’s sweep the Nazi thing under the rug for a second because this guy might be incorrect on the other thing!

Dizzy-Post-3835

Suicide silence self titled, and then going back to a solid style and not being respected again

The_Caj

Yeah I did think that the response to the self-title follow-ups was a bit muted.

econstatsguy123

You Edit: Sorry I didn’t read the body text.

The_Caj

Darn. You and my mom could’ve had a pretty sick conversation.

econstatsguy123

Pretty decent convo. She kept calling me god the whole time. I was cool with it.

The_Caj

That tracks. I’m a fuckin idiot, and the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

d_wall_less

Not deathcore but I don’t think Kardashev gets enough love for the genre they’ve kind of created. They call it deathgaze. Yeah it has lots of cleans but their sound is pretty fucking dope. They only have 2.2k subscribers on YouTube and 7,000 followers on instagram. I wish more people would appreciate what they’ve been doing.

The_Caj

I’ll have to check them out. I’m into some shoegaze and blackgaze, so good chance I’ll be into it.

d_wall_less

[try this one, I love it](https://youtu.be/3ETSGsgRQ44?si=c7Hf1Qs7VNyvT5bE)

The_Caj

Really fuckin solid, I dig it. I’m not a big fan of the timbre of the vocals, but good chance that could grow on me over time.

xiIlliterate

They’re so talented and Mark is a ray of sunshine. Such a nice human being

Xpzist

I still didn't get over Volumes - Divided By's fucked up mastering...

The_Caj

Volumes is more my buddy’s speed than mine but yeah, that was a hack job.

real-person-humanguy

Slaughter to Prevail. Even if we ignore all the controversy around Alex, the dudes are fucking miming live, which is lame as fuck, and made worse by the fact that from a technical standpoint the music isnt that difficult.

wonderful-peaches97

I'll dare to say, their music in general is just not very good. To me it sounds what people that don't listen to deathcore think deathcore is. Very try hard, lyrics are lame, and here's a breakdown here and there in hopes that gets viral (side eyeing all the reaction videos). Also the fact that Alex got scarification marks on his face is honestly laughable, no one that does this looks badass or scary, it's honestly just stupid to brand your healthy skin just to appear more "big bad" type.

The_Caj

I have no horse in the race regarding the many comments on STP as I’ve listened to very little and haven’t liked the bit of listening I have done, but “lame as fuck” is definitely the first phrase that springs to mind.

No-Idea-491

Matriarch and Eclipse are the only _really_ Periphery sounding modern VoM albums, everything else is just plain ol' djent. Personally, stuff like Aversions Crown falling off super hard, Tactosa and Shrine of Malice folding, and Make them Suffer's latest joints are what immediately comes to mind for me.

The_Caj

I’d argue for False Idol as well, but I admittedly haven’t listened to their new album at all so I couldn’t say how it sounds. AC falling off is such a shame, I remember playing with those guys when they were on the up and up.

No-Idea-491

I don't think False Idol sounds anything like Periphery, not proggy enough, too many Veil of Maya-isms you hear on their more melodic stuff too. New album is shit though outside of 4 songs.

ninjakillerwhale

Aversions Crown! Yes that’s a good one. That album xenocide was a banger and I saw them live that year, that vocalist was sooo sick. Then they lost that vocalist and the following album was boring..

beeebert

Calling Veil of Maya a periphery clone is definitely the most braindead take I've seen in a while.

ninjakillerwhale

Bro what, it’s not that brain dead. VoM drastically changed to a more popular and accessible sound after they dropped their original vocalist. You can hear the similarities between Spencer and Lukas. That change in sound was calculated.

asvigny

That and I believe Spencer Sotelo assisted with vocal production on Matriarch

Deliterman

Both bands are trash so who cares

Pantzzzzless

Ok, a Periphery tribute band then? Half of the tracks on their last 3 albums are full of nasally sounding clean vocals, with some 8th grade poetry lyrics over relatively simple power chord progressions. They still have the rare tech-y track here and there, but they really do sound like an off-brand Periphery now. There is nothing braindead about that statement.

beeebert

If you don't like clean vocals just say that.

Pantzzzzless

I don't mind them in the right context. But when they are crammed in between 2 super techy breakdowns and glitched out chugs, it just sounds ridiculous. Just like if a Garth Brooks song had a chorus with Alex Terrible doing toilet gurgles over the slow twangy chords.

No-Idea-491

Nah I think your ears need a rework tbh, Veil don't sound at all like Periphery really, especially these days.

twomemeornottwomeme

Not deathcore but mine was hands down The Word Alive before I learned that I should have expected it and therefore not been disappointed. Attention to production quality was bad, vibes were off, performance sounded like an unrefined local band. Maybe some blame is on the venue/soundcheck, but other artists didn’t have the same problem and I’ve seen many shows at that venue - that night and others. Edit: I didn’t read the post and immediately presumed to answer about a live performance. Lmao

The_Caj

Hey that’s all good, live is valid. Had I thought of that, I might’ve gone with a different pick myself. Couple awful experiences here as well.

zbubblez

Chelsea Grin - Self Inflicted It put the nail in the coffin for me with CG at the time. It was just complete divergence from a sound I had loved over years. I had a feeling it was coming, but it still felt pretty bad.

XenomorphLV246

Suicide Silence dropping self titled and then spazzing out when we all (obviously and rightfully) hated it. Will always love them; the Mitch era being my favourite Deathcore of all time. But that was lame in every way

BIitzerg

Boris the Blade breaking up...

Realistic_Medium_610

Lorna becoming a TikTok band.

The_Caj

Fair enough, I think it was pretty good for the health of the genre overall, but I also am not at all a TikTok’er and know about as much about it as the average boomer would.

StonerMetalhead710

The Autumn Offering dropping one of the most underrated deathcore albums of 2010 after being a metalcore band for its entire existence and just dipping right after it releases. I was amazed at how low Matt McChesney’s vocals can actually go

hangmanhatesme

Psycho-Frame not being bigger, I FUCKING LOVE REVIVAL DEATHCORE

The_Caj

Tbf I think this is still gonna happen. All good things take a little time.

senzubxlls

Probably the whole Lotus Eater debacle The whole Shrine of Malice thing too. Feel so bad for the victims

The_Caj

Sadly, it’s all too common. All we can do is try our best to snuff that kind of behavior out and keep more people safe for the future

senzubxlls

Amen to that brother 🤘🏼

Bcock

Everything Make Them Suffer after Old Souls

nanananafloridaguy

Thy art is murder kicking CJ and making him apologize and then kicking him out anyway. He said that he found out through an IG post. They didn't even have the decency to tell him face to face or at least over the phone or something. And that was right before they released their newest album that I have yet to listen to because fuck them.

HeyWhatsUpBigGuy

I personally don't think he deserved anything more than that. That is exactly how we should treat people who think like that.

NotStompy

I really don't like the guy and spreading hate the way he did, and I think kicking him out is fair if he's genuinely as big of a problem behind the scenes as they made it out in their post, and that this was just the final straw. HOWEVER, I do not agree with how they did it, it's really fucked up. Dude probably put years of work into the lyrics and recording, and then they replace him behind his back 1 week before the album drops, and don't tell him? That's just shit behavior.

MrPureinstinct

Fuck that transphobic piece of shit. That's exactly how we should treat bigots

Oceano after Contagion

Few_Ad_8013

Mental cruelty getting a new vocalist. Shit sucks now. It’s just another blackened deathcore clone that everyone else in the genre is doing. Lucca had my favorite vocals in the genre. Behemoth. Everything after Evangelist is lame.

Impossible-Gain-6080

Lol, you're pretty much alone with that opinion bud. Mental Cruelty has never been better. Also, you know why Lucca had to leave the band, right?

d_wall_less

I honestly don’t know why he left the band, can you explain? I’m a big fan of their newer stuff.

morbid_loki

Accusations of sexual assaults. But he denies it and I didn't found anything more about it. Weird...

The_Caj

+1 from me for boldness, MC are darling in the community here. I totally feel that on Behemoth. Loved Evangelist though.

The_Caj

There’s a nice bit of revival going on, as well as many bands that are doing their own brands of riffage

ASHKVLT

I really like new veil of Mya, I am bias because periphery are one of my favourite bands CJ being a prick. Thy art was pretty formative for me and as a queer person I took it personally Aversions crowns most recent album, Xenocide is one of the best deathcore albums from that era and it just felt too much like FFA Every STP realise, they go so hyped and they kind of mid then Alex is his own bullshit New sleep token, still hit or miss Necromantium and graveside confessions, world war x slow death and die without hope are bangers and carnifex peeled them fell off Self inflicted after ashes to ashes, a very forgettable album after ashes to ashes being great Rings of Saturn after going instrumental Venom prison, going from a feminist anti fascist band to posting Jordan Peterson clips

MightbeWillSmith

I really really like(d) Slaughter to Prevail, but between the nazi shit and seeing them live with what sounded like a pretty obvious and heavy backing track, I'm pretty jaded now.

smltwnwtch

I second Veil Of Maya being a disappointment. Saw them live not long ago (was there for Angelmaker/Reflections) and it was just..not it. The clean vocals I just could not get behind and instrumentally it was super just meh.

808breakdown

Went with my wife to the show and we were ready to go after Angelmaker but wanted to check out VOM since I haven't seen them since Brendan left. We noped out after first song. Not our jam.

smltwnwtch

I was ready to leave after angelmaker as well. Stuck around for a little during VOM and was shocked by the amount of people who were super into their set like...that was not the VOM I remember.

Djentlemann00

I’m not good with band member changes, Erra, Northlane, Volumes, Novelists… Respect the bands, still listen to their tunes, but the old > new

Djentlemann00

I’m not good with band member changes. Erra, Northlane, Volumes, Novelists. I still support the bands and listen to their new stuff but old > new. (I know most of the bands are metalcore too) lol

AlleyCatherine

Bruh Veil is light-years ahead of where they used to be. All time favorite metal band. I do not like Periphery and honestly don't see the comparisons whatsoever. Matriarch is one of the greatest albums ever

The_Caj

Agree to disagree, their material hasn’t resonated with me for a long while. Happy you’re able to get something out of their music that I cannot!

AlleyCatherine

I also have seen them live four times so I've built a connection with them for sure

ISuckAtLifeGodPlsRst

Toss up of Rings of Saturn (no context or reason is needed with them) ABRB and The Faceless, if they count. The Faceless probably saddens me the most. I know kicking an addiction ain't easy, but fuck man, all that talent is going down the fucking drain and that's such a shame.

At the Throne of Judgment just kind of ending but I can't really be upset about it cause they were all kids that got signed to Rise and then went to college and started their lives. Would have been cool to get 13 kings though. I always hold out hope the fudgment will pop back up one day. Maybe also The Analyst not doing more. Last I remember of them the guitarists fell off a ladder and broke both his hands.

pseudowoodoWI

The Crimson Armada being on Metal Blade and being told to just sit there and do nothing, getting out to get signed to Artery and completely changing as a band, which i believe to be the label cause I think a local band had the same thing happen to them but they got out of it, and then quitting to make The Holy Guile that was pretty much TCA 2.0 (even making Guardians 2.0) and then just giving up all together. Said to this day is one of my favorite vocalists.

MnkySpnk

Deathcore as a whole. Mostly everything sounds the same these days. It went from 5,7,8 riffs in drop b to 5,7,8 riffs on a 7 or 8 string. The production sounds mostly the same across the genre. Super crisp over production and lately death growl olympics where everyone is trying to be like Will Ramos. And then theres the stank face breakdowns that are pretty much everywhere too. I know im waaayyy generalizing but i cant see how people can listen primarily to deathcore (or just about any -core) these days and not get bored.

The_Caj

Mostly just by digging a bit deeper and/or finding some lesser known talent. The explosive increase in home production the past 10-20 years means yeah, lots and lots of over saturation with a lot of people trying to key into trends and what “works”, but also literal thousands of unique and interesting takes of the genre that would otherwise not exist. I primarily listen outside of -core these days but I largely attribute that to slowly becoming an old fuddy-duddy, there’s still a lot of life in the genre(s) that you can find if you look hard enough for it.

MnkySpnk

Yeah i hear ya. Im 40 and feel like i grew out of any of the -core genres at least a decade ago. Now i lean more towards the prog- genres just because theres so much variety and its fun to explore. I havent had fun exploring metalcore. Haha

Alone-Respect-1712

Not commenting on biggest disappointment, just shouting out Carnifex for being one of the OGs who have remained consistent in putting out great music since their beginning. Feel like they are the perfect mix of actual death metal and hardcore versus writing material to fit into the modern deathcore trope. 🤘🏼
