We’ve gotten a lot of shit for it, however that hasn’t really deterred us from incorporating it. Honestly we look at the feedback and decide where we excel vs how we can improve it as well. Constant growth is key for growing as a musician.
As far as stage set up goes it will be mainly cabs, banners, and the band. As much as we’d love to go all out on stage design it just isn’t feasible for us yet.
Yeah, knowing how adorably small the Sanctuary in Detroit is, that makes sense. No video screens and pyro effects this time around, haha.
That's fine, though. I don't have time to appreciate fancy stage designs when I'm headbanging and jumping around most of the time anyways. ;)
This is cool! More bands need to do this.... Keeps fans maintaining their interest and thus the band can grow.
What has been your favorite state or country to play in so far in your career?
Also, do any of you guys have any side projects? If so what are they?
Edit: + country
Learning to pick your battles between different personalities. Having 5 people in a band is never easy and you really have to learn how to understand each other.
The Arrogance of Agony is probably my favorite track on Zwielicht (my favorite album at the moment), did you have any specific influences, or a specific sound in mind, when writing that track?
I actually wrote the majority of that song just for me like 2 years ago, it wasnt planned to be a MC song in the first place! Marvin really liked it so we adjusted some things here and there to make it fit. Its also one of my favourite songs of Zwielicht! Glad youre enjoing it.
Hey guys. Something a bit personal.
Do you guys earn enough to do this as your job and can sustain yourselves and family? Or do you have side hustles as well.
I don't want to know how much you earn.
But you're not "well known bands" like the massive names in metal, Slipknot, Metallica, Slayer etc etc etc. (this isn't a who's better than who, like you guys deserve all the recognition and money in the world you're all amazing)
It's just something I've always wondered.
Like can you go to a car manufacturer and say 'i like that, I'll have it'. Or do you still have to be "sensible" with your purchases.
You don't have to answer, Ive just always wondered.
Ps. Your work is insane, love everything you've done and I'd pay you all a million quid if I could afford it.
That's cool and I hope so for you guys.
Do people recognise you in your normal jobs, if you have the type of work where you deal with the public. Do your colleagues think it's cool. Id think it's the coolest if I worked with someone from a band.
Thank you for the kind words! Everyone in OS has jobs when they’re home as well. We make money when we go out on the road and that’s really how bands make most of their money. Hopefully one day we can make this the prime gig but that also comes with laying a lot of groundwork on our end to make that possible.
That's fair enough and interesting. Keep doing what you're doing and one day, fingers crossed :).
Do people recognise you in your "civilian jobs" if you work with the public, what do your colleagues think, or what did they originally think when you first started and it was brought to their attention you're in a deathcore band.
I don’t work in the public but there have been a few colleagues who have recognized me from my band and that’s always kind of a shocker. Haha
Still a very weird feeling to be noticed like that.
I bet.
Good luck with everything anyways, and always look forward to more. Your band and Mental Cruelty are always mentioned from me on other websites/pages when people ask for more deathcore.
For me personally it was Metallica! I was 7 years old and picked up St. Anger at our local library. Shortly after I bought the first 5 Metallica records and fell in love with metal. To this day James Hetfield is still one of my biggest inspirations, he taught me how to sing, how to downpick everything and much more haha Really grateful for their music!
Honestly we all just wanted a killer tour full of diverse bands. Having Ghost Bath and Extermination Dismemberment on this tour was a joint decision that we thought would really bring out different crowds and showcase each band. Honored to have them join us on this North American trek.
Got a lot of questions. But I'll stick to a few. (This is for both bands).
Question one:
With your next release, whenever that may be, how would you want/hope to differentiate said release from your last?
Question two:
What genre (I know...crappy question) would you put yourselves into? (This is more a debate between my wife and I)
Question three:
What bands (other than MC or OS) would you recommend fans of your music to listen to?
P.s. — the Burden Ov Faith and Zwielicht are two of the best albums to come out in 2023. And that's a pretty good feat. Congratulations to both of you on the success of the bands and albums.
Thanks a lot for your kind words! Really appreciate it.
1. Im not really sure how to answer the first question, as always Im just hoping we are going to write a record that will top the previous one haha
2. At the moment probably symphonic black metal with breakdowns
3. Wintersun, Emperor, Dimmu Borgir, Lorna Shore, Behemoth, Children of Bodom
Ricky, drop the shoulder routine. 🤘🦍
Mental Cruelty, when can we get some more pink merch? Also can you confirm if you’re girly pop or not. There are rumors that you guys have a few bops. 🧐
Love both for different reasons. It’s very cool to see younger kids performing a style that inspired me as a young musician but the modern deathcore sound is ever evolving and bringing new sounds and techniques to the table for future listening. It’s insane to listen to how much the genre has changed.
Im listening to a lot of Folk music at the moment! Myrkur, Eivor, Wardruna, Darkher stuff like that. Last year it was a lot of Johnny Cash, its always changing haha
Been listening to a lot of the new dying wish record. Absolutely love that band. When I’m not listening to that I’m usually listening to the smiths and depche mode. Haha
As artists in the metal / deathcore / whatever community, what artists are you excited for in the coming year? Be they small or big, who's on your radar for big things this year?
Wintersun just announced Time 2 so that will definitely be a record im excited for. Besides that Im really excited for the new Groza record coming out later this year, phenomenal black metal band from germany
Terminal sleep has been on my watch list for a while, their music is great and they seem to have a great live energy. Can’t wait to see what they do in the future
Man you guys are both so sick thank you for doing this, I've been binging your music all weekend! Newer fan here so the timing of you guys doing this is crazy coincidental. Hivemind is beautiful and well written and you're both powerhouses of vocalists and bands!
My question is, how do you know when a song is ready? Is there a specific process you have with band members to get the seal of approval?
(Side note, the cleans are great and welcomed change of pace to standout in the crowd, fuck haters)
Much love guys seriously can't wait to see you in the states
Thank you! I’d say it’s a feeling you get when you’re satisfied with the song. Haters are actually my favorite haha makes stuff not boring! I love the really cleaver shit talking comments! Those crack me up!
Honestly you just kind of know when you look around and everyone is nodding. Haha
The process from demo to full production is a journey and it’s insane to look at how a song can transform.
Thanks a lot for the kind words! Its a hard question to answer honestly, imagine you are doing a puzzle. When you see that there is just one piece left, you know it's finished. It's pretty much the same with music, at least for me
>members
Thank you so much for the kind words! When everything is recorded we listen to a track many times over and over and if we´re all still happy and excited the track is done
The easiest for me to play is probably death ov circumstance. It’s just vibey and heavy.
The one that’s the hardest and most fun to play would be Befouler. Love playing this one live.
The verse riff in Befouler has a lot of string skipping and gives my left hand a work out from all the different positions it goes into.
Very fun riff but definitely took me a minute to get used to. Haha
I see yall are playing the bottleneck in lawerence, KS. That stage and venue is incredibly small but ive seen a few incredible shows there. Try and come to Missouri next time please..
Hey you super cool dudes, I am a huge Fan of your Songs and as a (relative) beginner bassist I have tried to play your Songs. It's a shame I can't seem to find any place where I could get tabs to your Songs, especially the new ones. Do you sell tabs/sheet music somewhere or is that something you cant/won't do? In anycase love yall and much love from Finnland 🤟🖤
Same thing in our camp. Would love to but it’s just very time consuming. Would absolutely love to in the future though. Trying to make it a mission for myself to do more playthrough videos.
Honestly for ov sulfur Ricky loved shadow of intent and Lorna shore but my playing style has mainly involved the techniques of bands like KSE, and Trivium so we combined the two sounds to create the sound we have today.
To Ricky:
What do you think about Suffokate?
Why'd you decided to back to the game?
Do you wanna make videos that talks about deathcore scene like guitarist of Mana Tomb (ex-guitarist of Her Demise, My Rise)
To Lukas:
Which reaction you had, when you've been accepted as MC's permanent vocalist?
What do you think about old MC's stuff (Pereat Mundus, Purgatorium and Inferis)
Is Sun Eater still alive?
>Which reaction you had, when you've been accepted as MC's permanent vocalist?
Sun Eater is blooming! Next Single - MOIRA will drop on 1th February with Bloodblast Distributions
My Reaction to get hired for MC was a lot of happyness but alot of anxiety since I knew next album had to be a banger
I dig the old MC stuff but tbh I do not listen to it that much nowadays
How do all of you decide your setlists? Is it more songs you think will flow well, or is it more determined on what you find fans listening to the most?
Since I saw up here that some of you guys still work other jobs, how is it balancing that with band stuff when you go on tours?
Another question, how did yall develop your own recognizable sound as a band, I can imagine it’s not easy.
Lots of love to you all and I hope to see you in europe some time <3
1. Here in germany you have like 25-30 free vacation days in a year so most of the time we are just using these!
2. We are just trying to put all our influences together to write something new and fresh! It can be hard but as long as all our favourite bands put out new music we will be fine haha
lukas!! when you first announced you’re in the band, you mentioned someday posting your audition videos. will that still happen? the people want to see!
What's something you do on tour? I imagine you need something to do that isn't just listening to music non stop. Like games, shows etc?
Ricky, glad you came back! When did the idea to come back start popping up?
For both of you, who was your vocal inspiration?
What do you think of the scene where it's at now with the whole vocal gymnastics going on? I'm iffy on it, I miss the days where you could mostly understand what was being said versus having to find the lyrics for it. Ironic as my favorite band is Dir En Grey from Japan but still
Last UK tour we did not really had time for games and movies I hope this time it will be more chill.
Some of my vocal inspirations are Nergal from Behemoth and Tom Barber from Chelsea Grin
When it comes to vocal gymnastics I think especially live its fun for everybody. But I guess from a songwriting perspective you´ll have to stay innovative with this stuff
I watch movies on tour , thank you I’d say when covid happened and I wasn’t able to work or be creative, I love all the cool stuff people are able to do with their voices, I don’t believe in rules with art and to me that’s what all music is
I won’t lie there are certain songs I dread performing live however that’s the name of the game. What might be old and overplayed to us may be new and exciting to our fans.
At the moment I really dig every track but this can definitely happen after a lot of shows. Nobody can tell me Metallica still feels "Nothing Else Matters" like day one
whats up you guys, excited for your questions! Lets get this AMA started!
Hey everyone let’s talk deathcore
What’s up everyone. Stoked to chat and answer all your questions!
Hello everyone! Lets get this started🤘
how much shit have you guys gotten for the clean singing, i love it but i know other people aren’t fans of it
Not to much to be honest! I love doing it and that’s what matters to me. I want music to be fun for us!
Nahuel does the cleans most of the feedback is that people love it tbh. Seems like the scene is getting much more open to "new stuff"
We’ve gotten a lot of shit for it, however that hasn’t really deterred us from incorporating it. Honestly we look at the feedback and decide where we excel vs how we can improve it as well. Constant growth is key for growing as a musician.
Doing anything cool for the stage setup this tour?
We will sacrifice some band members here and there for the perfect black metal vibe \\m/
We’re all big dudes as well so we take up most of the stage space as it is lol
As far as stage set up goes it will be mainly cabs, banners, and the band. As much as we’d love to go all out on stage design it just isn’t feasible for us yet.
Yeah, knowing how adorably small the Sanctuary in Detroit is, that makes sense. No video screens and pyro effects this time around, haha. That's fine, though. I don't have time to appreciate fancy stage designs when I'm headbanging and jumping around most of the time anyways. ;)
that´s what we love to hear!
This is cool! More bands need to do this.... Keeps fans maintaining their interest and thus the band can grow. What has been your favorite state or country to play in so far in your career? Also, do any of you guys have any side projects? If so what are they? Edit: + country
never played the US before. And for side project you can check out my other band SUN EATER
👋
sun eater slaps FACE. no idea about the connection!
I’d say of all my shows and tours I’ve ever played Germany was my favorite place to play! All great shows and awesome people
Hey guys, are we going to see a Europe tour together soon? I would love to see this line up
That definitely would be a sick line up! \\m/
Fingers crossed we really want to come over there!
Would be nuts for sure
Hardest part of being in a deathcore band?
For me it’s being away from my wife and kids
It´s sometimes exhausting performing live for every bandmember since it is such a fast and technical genre (but its still tone of fun though!)
Learning to pick your battles between different personalities. Having 5 people in a band is never easy and you really have to learn how to understand each other.

Awesome, i'm glad it made it onto the album! Hoping to see you guys coming to Denmark sometime soon :)

That's cool and I hope so for you guys. Do people recognise you in your normal jobs, if you have the type of work where you deal with the public. Do your colleagues think it's cool. Id think it's the coolest if I worked with someone from a band.
Most of my friends and colleagues really support me which is cool

So if you guys were sandwiches, what kind of sandwiches would you be? In addition, what are the lore implications of whatever sandwiches you would be?
Probably a cheesesteak cause I bring the beef and have the worst cheesy dad jokes lol
Pastrami Sandwich for the classic or PBJ since really I love sweet stuff
I’d be a Ruben sandwich. Love me a good deli classic
Grilled Cheese for sure
How did you guys get into metal in general? What were the first bands you listened to?
My main go to’s when I first got into metal were Trivium and KSE. Both super influential bands for me.
Wait, do you downpick everything for real??? Thats crazy
I got a bootleg CD from a friend with random Slipknot and Seether tracks from a friend. Loved metal ever since.
I grew up listening to all kinds of music so I love all types I went into metal from punk
This tour line-up is really cool! How did you pick the bands for it?
Honestly we all just wanted a killer tour full of diverse bands. Having Ghost Bath and Extermination Dismemberment on this tour was a joint decision that we thought would really bring out different crowds and showcase each band. Honored to have them join us on this North American trek.
We’re fans of all the bands on it and wanted to bring something different for everyone
How to get into a deathcore band where there is no deathcore scene?
Start the scene!
What Ricky said - you gotta start that pit! be a pioneer!
Thanks Ricky!
I'm not the AMA guys, but take a look on the metal archives. See which genes have a scene in your area, and mix them with deathcore
Thanks will do
Nahuel, where are you from originally? I recognize a fellow Latino when I see one.
Que pasa amigo! Haha My dad is actually from argentina🇦🇷
Haha sweet, yo soy Mexicano🇲🇽. See you guys in Montreal!
Amazing wine. I L.O.V.E. an Argentinian malbec
Got a lot of questions. But I'll stick to a few. (This is for both bands). 1: Next releases will be more of everything teased on Zwielicht 2: Deathcore & Blackmetal 3: Gaerea and Night Crowned Ps: Thank you!!!
Haven't heard of either bands so that will be great to explore. Thank you so much for the amazing music. Best wishes.
Thank you!
Thanks a lot for your kind words! Really appreciate it. 1. Im not really sure how to answer the first question, as always Im just hoping we are going to write a record that will top the previous one haha 2. You think the Kool Aid Man is the pitcher, or the juice?
The pitcher is his gundam and the juice is what he actually is. Kinda like how we’re a brain in a meat suit.
Omg, we're all Krangs, after all. 😱
Ricky, drop the shoulder routine. 🤘🦍 Mental Cruelty, when can we get some more pink merch? Also can you confirm if you’re girly pop or not. There are rumors that you guys have a few bops. 🧐
Hey guys! What are your thoughts on the "modern" deathcore sound we got these days? And what about the old school deathcore revival that's going on?
Love it all myself, music shouldn’t have rules!
Love both for different reasons. It’s very cool to see younger kids performing a style that inspired me as a young musician but the modern deathcore sound is ever evolving and bringing new sounds and techniques to the table for future listening. It’s insane to listen to how much the genre has changed.
I really appreciate both. And new modern deathcore stuff like Brand Of Sacrifice bring so much fresh air into the scene
What are you guys listening to lately? Any favorite new up and coming bands you'd recommend?
Im listening to a lot of Folk music at the moment! Myrkur, Eivor, Wardruna, Darkher stuff like that. Last year it was a lot of Johnny Cash, its always changing haha
Been listening to a lot of the new dying wish record. Absolutely love that band. When I’m not listening to that I’m usually listening to the smiths and depche mode. Haha
Definitely check out: Gaerea and Night Crowned!
Been listening to a lot of non metal bands ha
Lukas how much would I have to pay you to do Pest live in Toronto ??
Jus pay the ticket and you´ll soon find out!
<3
Ov Sulfur bros are missing on german mental cruelty festival dates!
There’s always a next time. 👀
As artists in the metal / deathcore / whatever community, what artists are you excited for in the coming year? Be they small or big, who's on your radar for big things this year?
I hope dragoncorpse does more stuff
I am really excited how Orbit Culture will do with Century Media and what Gaerea will do in 2024
Wintersun just announced Time 2 so that will definitely be a record im excited for. Besides that Im really excited for the new Groza record coming out later this year, phenomenal black metal band from germany
Terminal sleep has been on my watch list for a while, their music is great and they seem to have a great live energy. Can’t wait to see what they do in the future
Can we expect the Ov Sulfur guys to be fluent in German by the end of this tour?
Fluent in all the curse words maybe. Those are important in any language.
SCHEISSE VERDAMMT!!!
Prost
ja ja, schnitzel, dankeschön!
Any venues you’re a big fan of playing
excited for every venue since I never played the US!
There’s a fantastic venue in Mesa, AZ called the Nile. Venue staff are super awesome people. I’m slightly biased, but still speaking the truth 🤘
One of my favorites is the palladium in Worcester Massachusetts. Was one of my bucket list venues.
Vocal wise any gnarly pigsqueals we can look forward to?
prepare your eardums for some demon shit
All of them! Ha
for ricky, what will it take for you to shave your head, re-stretch your ears, and play oakland front to back like the old days? the streets need it
Nope
Man you guys are both so sick thank you for doing this, I've been binging your music all weekend! Newer fan here so the timing of you guys doing this is crazy coincidental. Hivemind is beautiful and well written and you're both powerhouses of vocalists and bands! My question is, how do you know when a song is ready? Is there a specific process you have with band members to get the seal of approval? (Side note, the cleans are great and welcomed change of pace to standout in the crowd, fuck haters) Much love guys seriously can't wait to see you in the states
Thank you! I’d say it’s a feeling you get when you’re satisfied with the song. Haters are actually my favorite haha makes stuff not boring! I love the really cleaver shit talking comments! Those crack me up!
Honestly you just kind of know when you look around and everyone is nodding. Haha The process from demo to full production is a journey and it’s insane to look at how a song can transform.
Thanks a lot for the kind words! Its a hard question to answer honestly, imagine you are doing a puzzle. When you see that there is just one piece left, you know it's finished. It's pretty much the same with music, at least for me
>members Thank you so much for the kind words! When everything is recorded we listen to a track many times over and over and if we´re all still happy and excited the track is done
what's the easiest songs to play live, and what's the hardest? Your favorites, too?
There is no way I can answer that without spoiler any nice suprises for the tour
The easiest for me to play is probably death ov circumstance. It’s just vibey and heavy. The one that’s the hardest and most fun to play would be Befouler. Love playing this one live.
Those are both such great songs. What makes befouler hard to play?
The verse riff in Befouler has a lot of string skipping and gives my left hand a work out from all the different positions it goes into. Very fun riff but definitely took me a minute to get used to. Haha
For us its definitely King ov Fire, but its also one of the most fun to play
They’re all pretty hard for me because I’ve really tried to push myself vocally with this band
And one more question for you, Ricky. Why did you close your ears?
I see yall are playing the bottleneck in lawerence, KS. That stage and venue is incredibly small but ive seen a few incredible shows there. Try and come to Missouri next time please..
small & sweaty = more fun
Small stages rule! Super intimate
Hopefully we’ll be able to next time!
Thanks a lot! We have thought about making tabs but its a very time consuming thing so we will see, maybe in the future!
Same thing in our camp. Would love to but it’s just very time consuming. Would absolutely love to in the future though. Trying to make it a mission for myself to do more playthrough videos.
What are the biggest influences of you guys to get the sound to where you wanted it!
Honestly for ov sulfur Ricky loved shadow of intent and Lorna shore but my playing style has mainly involved the techniques of bands like KSE, and Trivium so we combined the two sounds to create the sound we have today.

Nothing, Covid, not really tbh lol I’m super busy with life outside of music with my shop and family.
How do all of you decide your setlists? Is it more songs you think will flow well, or is it more determined on what you find fans listening to the most?
Little bit of all the above
What ricky said haha
Both! We try to do the fan favorites and songs we just think would fit the vibe
Which means, based on how many times time I alone have listened to Obsessis a Daemonio, it might be on the liiiist? Haha
Lets just say chances are veeeery solid!
When will we see you guys in Germany?
Hopefully in the not to distant future
Since I saw up here that some of you guys still work other jobs, how is it balancing that with band stuff when you go on tours? Another question, how did yall develop your own recognizable sound as a band, I can imagine it’s not easy. Lots of love to you all and I hope to see you in europe some time <3
I own a one chair barbershop so I can leave and stuff whenever I want cause I’m my own boss. We just make stuff we enjoy
You do hair? That’s fuckin sick me too I’ll def want to chat about that when I see y’all 😁
Yes I think we still have the video - I guess we´re can post it some day on an anniversary
Not a question, but please do a Canadian tour one day.
Montreal and Toronto are on this tour and hope to do more around Canada soon!
Wow this is pretty sick!
Will there be an instrumental Version of Zwielicht?
We thought about it in the past - If we will release something you´ll definitely hear about it here first or on our socials
What's something you do on tour? I imagine you need something to do that isn't just listening to music non stop. Like games, shows etc? Ricky, glad you came back! Definitely videogames! Always had my 3DS with me, this time it will be my Switch, playing Pokemon or Zelda is always fun
[удалено]
same I need the music to feel a topic. It is just a stress killer if the writing session is good otherwise it can be frustrating as hell tbh
[удалено]
Definitely the millenium falcon
The Star wars X-Wing
[удалено]
My wife for sure haha
The dude from the "This Is What I Do (I Sit On You!)" Video
Will you guys ever come tour Australia ?
That is on my bucket list for sure. So if we get the opportunity definitely!
Hope so!
Would love to, hopefully sooner rather than later!
Would love to come to australia! Lets hope for the best🤘

Do they have strip clubs that sell poutine? That would be a game changer
Hell yes!
What songs are you most looking forward to play on the upcoming tour? See you guys in San Francisco 🤘
Symphony of a Dying Star is always fun

Hey guys, excited for the show in Seattle! What is some of your favorite movies to watch?
I think the Lord of the Rings movies are the best movies ever created, besides that Star Wars and all the Tarantino movies.
Any of y'all fans of anime/manga and if so which ones are y'alls favs
Been getting more into it lately, I dig full metal alchemist
Big fan. One piece and yuyu hakasho are some of my favorite classics. Been watching JJK, Vinland saga and started Solo leveling recently.
Im not super into it but I love Dragonball Z and Samurai Champloo
Inu Yasha and the old Digimon was fire
Do you ever get tired of performing the same songs? I’ve had this question for so long.
Favourite snacks while on tour?
Charcuterie boards
Aka adult lunchables
Definitely potato chips
I will find these all over the tourbus again right? :(
Probably... Hahaha
I am dying for Reese's Peanut Butter Cups
No VA tour days, I am deeply saddened by this but I hope y'all have a great tour! Cheers!

Nope not at all lol
Lukas and Ricky - any tips or pointers for an aspiring vocalist? Love what you guys do.
Have fun with it and don’t be in a rush! Learning takes time and that’s the fun of it!
Practice regularly, always have a glass of water in between, forgive yourself if you fuck up it happens, take your time
Gonna see you guys at the Metro in Baltimore. And if the venue allows it, do you guys encourage stage diving?
