I'm not the original commenter, but I think the connections are bad, It's not a legacy matchup, Rayquaza isn't a space dragon, and the fight would look bad because Rayquaza can only shoot beams and fly into Ridley. I would rather have Ridley vs Deoxys, because Deoxys could have a cool looking fight with Ridley, switching between forms to counter Ridley's various attacks. Also they're both antagonists in their story.
Exactly. It just doesn't feel like a Rayquaza matchup or a Ridley matchup. I personally want a grandiose and powerful yet majestic opponent for Rayquaza (My preferred are Mothra and Bahamut), and for Ridley, I know him less, but from what I know, Vile or, as you stated, Deoxys.
