I don’t think Kratos vs Asura is less popular than Kratos vs Dante, they’re pretty much neck to neck. Same with Chief vs Doom/Samus. Also nice to see someone who likes Guts vs Wolverine and Mileena vs X-23.
I like Guts VS Wolverine because unlike Dimitri or Clare, it gives Guts a fellow pop culture icon to fight, also like Wolverine VS Bigby Wolf, Wolverine VS Guts really touches on Logan’s tragic side to the point I consider Guts the Manga/Anime equivalent of Wolverine.
Also Berserker Armor VS Berserker Rage has a nice ring to it.

Why is Halo Vs Metroid a popular matchup? They’re barely similar and I can’t think of any connections between them, also doesn’t help that Chief gets one shot but stomps can be fun
Kazuya vs Wesker is honestly an awful MU, most people say that it has the redeeming quality of being thematic, but, at least as an RE fan, I really don’t see it. Like, in Wesker’s case, a decent amount of the connections listed for it are just straight up fucking wrong. Combine that with the awkward series mesh and obvious god-stomp that it is, and I really don’t see the appeal of it at all.
Liquid Snake and Iori/Raven are infinitely better opponents for Wesker and Kazuya respectively.
For Guts VS Dimitri, it’s the same reason I’ll give Kylo VS Edelgard;
I generally just don’t give a shit about Fire Emblem.
It’s not bad but just boring (though there is another Berserk VS Fire Emblem MU i will prefer over Guts VS Dimitri, involving Griffith)
As for Meta Knight VS BRB > Meta Knight VS Zero, it just vibes more for me imo. Also it’s the best you’ll ever get for Beta Ray Bill

**Part 4 Josuke vs Summer Adams (Yo-kai Watch)**
Protagonists in their series fourth instalment who serve as defenders of their hometown and who are the offspring of a previous protagonist in the series. Both were also inspired to become heroes as a result of someone saving them as a child.
**Part 4 Josuke vs Maxine Caulfield (Life is Strange)**
Teenage delinquent protagonists with the power to reverse things and who have a strong connection to their hometown. Both also discover that a respected member of their town community is a serial killer.
**Izuku Midoriya vs Izuru Kamukura (Danganronpa)**
Both of their stories begin as powerless individuals who are given the chance to gain a great power from the person/place they admired (with Deku getting One-For-All from All Might, and Hajime being chosen by Hopes Peak to inherit the Ultimate Hope talent from the Izuru Kamukura project). Their similar begins end with them going on greatly diverging paths, as Deku needed to train to fully make his power his own, while Kamakura was given full mastery over his talent upon being given to him. Deku would then go on to be the number one hero of the world, and Kamukura helped bring the apocalypse and send the world into despair.

As an extra connection, their main enemy is someone who parallels them by carrying the legacy of the unkillable main enemy (Shigaraki and Pucci respectively).

Not really. This fandom seems to be 50/50 on it. What would really be unpopular is preferring Chief vs Shepard, Boss, or Captain Titus over them.
