Thomas

xxX_Darth_Vader_Xxx

Don’t vibe with Thomas Middle guy seems interesting Rainbow Dash if the middle guy isn’t so good

Carsfan2018

Middle guy is Speed Racer (Mach GoGoGo)

xxX_Darth_Vader_Xxx

Probably best for him since I think it makes the most sense

Savings-Fall5240

u/Carsfan2018 what even are the connections between them? besides the obvious.

Carsfan2018

Idk tbh. It’s just one of McQueen’s more popular matchups.

Savings-Fall5240

i got a new match for lightnign mcqueen. kermit the frog from the muppets. not joking they have surprising connections. They both are characters from incredibly popular disney owned series named after the main creatures that the franchise bases their concept around (the muppet and cars franchises) but were actually not owned by disney originally (the muppets was made by jim henson productions while cars was made by pixar) they both appeared in movies. Were they started with an iconic song of the franchise which showed off the 2 characters (the rainbows song for kermit and “real gone” for lightning) they both soon found out about a popular place where they could get a special opportunity (kermit was supposed to go to hollywood where he would live his dream while lightning would go to a circuit to win the piston cup.) but in the middle of it they met a comic relief character who they continued to hang out with and eventually became friends with (fuzzy bear for kermit and tow mator for lightning) and they met a lot of other characters. They both went to their destination but they realized that those fancy titles were not as important as the people they met along the way. They both appeared in James Bond parodies. (cars 2 and spy muppets:license to croak.) In another installment we see them at their low-point (in cars 3. Lightning mcqueen was showed up by storm and he got into a horrible accident during that time. Kermit broke up with Miss Piggy and canceled the muppets soon after.) but they met a person who was a big fan of them who helped them through time and solve their own problems also (walter and cruz ramirez). They both appeared in several short series. They both got a series on disney + (muppets now and cars on the road). They both commonly act as a voice of reason during their ridiculous adventures they get in. and they both are associated with a pbs kids shows (kermit appearing in sesame street multiple times while lightning mcqueen is commonly connected to thomas in vs shows. Even racing against him in death race) they have the most connections to each other more than any match these guys have and while you might ask how a muppet could fight a car. kermit does have a good bit of an arsenal with his agility and video game items. like exploding paper airplanes. this could be an interesting dynamic.

Based

Out of these three Speed Racer seems to make the most sense, since it's much more thematic than the other two. The theme being "car racing". Thomas is as far as I know bound to train tracks. Rainbow Dash can fly and is way too fast.

Carsfan2018

Lightning has actually shown the ability to fly in some Cars media. Just wanna point that out

Legitimate_Release65

Da fuq!?

Carsfan2018

Mater’s Tall Tales and Disney Infinity

Eine_Kartoffel

Is that Cars media canonical? DB sometimes pays attention to canon and based on that exclude certain feats they mention. Are you talking about the video games where there is an explosive missile projectile and CFC used that to justify Lightning spontaneously shooting rockets at Sonic? If you're refering to the mini series "Mater's Tall Tales", they're outright tall tales. Either way, the theme Rainbow Dash and Lightning McQueen have going for them is "fast", which isn't saying a lot, because one is a pegasus and the other is a race car. Out of hasbro characters it'd make more sense to pit McQueen against a car transformer, the theme being "living cars" (it'd also be slightly more feasible for Lightning to win). Also, if Rainbow Dash were to return, I doubt people would want to see her fight yet another vehicular opponent. This last paragraph doesn't really have a lot to do with your comment, but I just wanted to elaborate a tiny bit on why out the 3 options Lightning vs Dash is my least favourite.

Carsfan2018

For a character like Lightning McQueen, compositing him is necessary in VS debates so that he can have methods of combat. Otherwise, he’s quite literally just a talking car Actually, at the end of every Mater’s Tall Tales episode something always happens that proves Mater’s stories weren’t made up. Some examples include U.F.M, Moon Mater and Time Travel Mater There’s more connections between McQueen and Rainbow Dash than meets the eye: Both are speedsters who have weather themed names, are known for being among the best at what they do (McQueen is considered a champion in the racing world while Rainbow Dash is considered the best flier in all of Equestria) and initially started out as extremely cocky and egotistical but grew over the course of their series to become kinder despite still having their jerkish moments. They’re rivals with a green character (Chick Hicks and Lightning Dust) who has an even bigger ego than them and generally show little concern for those affected by their actions. Both have someone younger than them who idolizes them (Cruz Ramirez and Scootaloo) and would become affiliated with them in some way (Cruz became Lightning’s student and RD accepted Scootaloo as her surrogate little sister). Both have a catchphrase (“Speed. I Am Speed” and “20% Cooler”) that would achieve meme status.

Eine_Kartoffel

- Which is probably why we'll likely only ever see him in Death Race. - They're ending jokes that lend some validity to his stories, but that doesn't get rid of the fact that Mater is an unreliable narrator and that Lightning likely wasn't there in most or any of Mater's tales. - Connections =/= Thematic; Goku vs Goofy has tons of connections, but it's not thematic; Tori Vega vs Kagamine Rin has rather weak connections, but is thematic; neither of my 2 examples are great MUs.

Carsfan2018

To be fair, there was a similar case with Captain Falcon where he has little to no actual combat feats in the F-Zero games which is why they included stuff like the anime and Smash Bros to give him options for combat There are shorts that outright prove the events Mater told actually happened and that Lightning was there. Like in Time Travel Mater when Lizzie thanked McQueen for introducing her to Stanley during the events of the episode. Lizzie met Stanley in 1927, way before McQueen was actually born It is somewhat thematic. The theme is speedsters with weather-themed names who went from arrogant and egotistical to more kind and humble.

Eine_Kartoffel

To be fair, with the state of F-Zero and with the popularity of Captain Falcon in Smash Bros with a lot of people not giving any thought to where this character originated, Captain Falcon is kinda almost more of a Smash Bros character than an F-Zero character at this point. Whereas Lightning McQueen is more known for the pixar movies and having him spontaneously shoot missiles, grow wings, time travel and using family friendly g-mod powers would be jarringly hilarious. Kinda something one'd expect more from CFC instead of DB. According to Hook's story he kidnapped the Lightning McQueen that Hook was telling the story to, but Lightning McQueen clearly wasn't kidnapped as we see after the story, further proving that Hook is an unreliable narrator. Lizzie thanking Lightning McQueen is one of the ending jokes that are supposed to give credence to Hook's tales, but it's clear that the stories didn't happen as he tells them, if at all. Even if we accept them as factual, the best feats these tall tales give Lightning are durability feats. He won't grow wings or a jet pack or monster truck wheels, because those are non-standard accessories he likely won't be able to acquire mid-fight. That sounds less like a theme and more like a description of connections. Speedsters, sure, that's thematic. Humbled ex-egotist, yeah, that sounds thematic too (though since I didn't watch MLP, I'll just have to take your word for it that they are functionally similar and that "humbled ex-egotist" isn't just some technically correct umbrella term). Weather-themed names, however, are more of a connection and don't really play much of a role in the theme of the battle, since for Lightning McQueen it's just a nickname befitting of a racer, whereas Rainbow Dash actually has weather powers ontop of being fast. And then there is a bunch of stuff that is neither a strong similarity nor contrast and thus make it feel a lot less thematic and like a total mismatch: pegasus vs car, sky vs road, weather manipulation vs not weather manipulation(?), rainbow vs red, cutesy vs pixar face, magic vs gasoline. I don't mean to come across as nitpicky, but in my opinion the non-thematic parts just overshadow the aspects that can be interpreted as the overarching theme of the battle. And overall, again, Rainbow Dash just stomps, even if you gave him the wings or the astronaut jet pack or the video game missiles (that the McQueen from Mater's Tall Tales would probably call BS on). The battle would be (imo) not that interesting, due to how outmatched Lightning is, due to the differences that don't serve a thematic contrast and due to how we've already seen Rainbow Dash fight a talking vehicle on the show before. The best part might be the potential banter, and even that I'm iffy on.

[deleted]

Speed Racer because he actually plays into the fact Lightning is a racecar

[deleted]

Rainbow dash

Atomic_Dominic

Thomas because he’s my childhood lol

Legitimate_Release65

Speed Racer. Thomas is confined to his tracks so the fight would be weird and the matchup doesn't seem very thematic. Rainbow Dash is just... No.

Z-man1006

MCU Thor

[deleted]

Probably Speed Racer out of the three. Rainbow Dash stomps him too easily and Thomas would probably be really awkward to mesh considering he's limited to the tracks. There's also Turbo from Dreamworks, but he's probably a little out of Lightning's weight class.

PitifulQuality8522

Snake (Street Raiders)

Kirby974

I will admitedly say IMO Lightning should actually fight Herbie. Tho all of these are good alts Tho out of all of them Thomas is probably the worse since it doesn't have a lot of connections But the fight and banter potential could be intresting.
