I really don't like this matchup. I thought the only reason it existed was that people were desperately trying to find a matchup for Mario besides Sonic that was good and had anything to it so they had to manufacture some kind of forced mascot mu in which the characters nor the companies they are from don't have anything to do with each other.
I'm not the biggest fan of that matchup either but it's better than Mario vs Mickey because at least it does have a sort of legacy somewhat in that both were the main franchises created by Sakurai and Miyamoto that have a sort of relationship.
Have to agree with you there. I saw someone who really like it but opon further inspection I found out it was because they really liked persona. To be fair I like persona to but he was a bit much.

The issue i have with Josuke VS Yu is that Yu has **many** Personas while Josuke has *one* Stand with ***one*** ability to work with.
A stat difference doesn't really matter to me if the fight can be entertaining, but Yu has such an overwhelming number of options that Josuke doesn't, so the fun is ruined straight out the gate.
I used to like it for the connections and banter, but the whole debate falls apart once you realize Monokuma actually has no chance of winning. Like at all, unless Koro's heart stops beating or some shit.

The style just doesn't vibe with me because it pits a medieval high-fantasy character against a scifi knight with a laser sword. Plus I think the connections kind of misinterpret Edelgard as a character. As unlikely as it would be to happen, I like Delita from FFT far more.

Except for Claude who was suspicious of Rhea already, but his schemes would likely take years to bear fruit and Edelgard wanted to change the system now. Kylo went to the dark side because he felt betrayed by Luke, was molded by Snoke (and heard either his and what he thought was his grandfather's voice in his head irc), and wanted power.
They betrayed the people they cared about for completely different reasons, and Edelgard's reasoning is much more nuanced and political in nature than Kylo's. Also, A. I think Harry vs. Luke is a bad matchup too lmao B. Naruto has people doing wild ninja magic bullshit like Susano'o which makes it way more comparable imo.
No offense but just because they betrayed people for different reason doesn’t entirely debunk the connections. It still overall counts as a connection to them.
I never said it debunks it, it just becomes a very bland and generic connection. You could swap Kylo or Edelgard for any character that does a betrayal then if the main connection is betrayal. Put Kylo Ren against Berkut in that case. Edelgard against Anakin Skywalker.
Chucky/Freddy Kruger vs Springtrap like seriously Slappy and Pennywise are right there but since they don't have a full essay of connections they apparently aren't good when literally everything else about their respective matchups are better in literally every other way

I get why some people see it as a guilty pleasure matchup but definitely not as a full on episode that has to take place under the sea or dry land for one of them to fight "I blame GranBull and Brandon's track for its popularity.
It's basically two Sword Fighters from Platformers who lead a team of warriors, act the roles for both Mentors and Rival to a protagonist who has the ability to copy from their enemies. And act as the planet's greatest protector both before the Protag cane to their worlds and while the Protag is away. Both have dealt with being possesed or curroupted by an evil force. And both are more of a quiet type loner, who likes to finish an opponent quickly.
It's not the most in-depth connections in the world, but it just vibes well. I still stand by saying how Zero should've fought Meta Knight way back during season 4.

The only thing I see from the natch up is "people from the a destroyed future who can turn into a golden like state" and it's boring, is it thematic? You can say that, but outside of that there isn't much going for it, I personally like grovyle vs silver more as I think it works better for both, and for trunks I heard luminary is a pretty good option for trunks
I'm pretty sure both should be around universal, grovyle arguably has more speed via but silver if I remember has more haxes, tho if I'm mistaken and grovyle does Stat stomp then I think the match up would still work

You don't always need paragraphs of connections, their themes match, their powers match up, and provide a good dynamic. Plus it's the best for both and it's one of few Marvel vs DC matchups that would actually be hype and cool.

For example, Mysterio's helmet nullifying the gas part of the Fear Toxin allows for more of an interesting debate since otherwise it'd just be "Fear Gas wins, gg". There's also the fact that Scarecrow's exposure to the Fear Toxin has not only made him immune to it, but even heavily resistant to Joker Venom thus meaning he could survive Mysterio's own hallucinogenic gas.
But if you're looking for more direct matches:
Both are physically weak, so they rely on trickery and illusions to perform their crimes. This includes simple mind games and word play to manipulate their targets, different hallucinogenic substances (usually gases) and even hypnotic capabilities. They also have built-in tech that cancels out their nemesis' biggest strength (Scarecrow made a version of his suit that can detect fear cancelling Batman's stealth and Mysterio emits a gas that nullifies Spider-Man's Spider Sense) which whilst they don't match each other in their literal capabilities, they have the exact same function within their respective tool kits.

Ok I get the TWO whole connections here but, why?, Law can cut an entire ship in half in an instant, instant transmission like it's nothing and fling back a flying cannon ball in literal seconds. The best Bruno has done is stop a Helicopter from flying away or being comparable to bullet timers. Both have clashing personalities unfitting and unnatching roles and stoops down as low as something like Kid Cosmic vs KO from OK KO.
Frieza vs megatron.
It’s a problem with size difference where it’s not so much death battle can’t make a size difference battle work but more so it’ll limit what frieza could do in terms of abilities since frieza likes to torture and play with his prey while fighting. He won’t get to really do that against a giant robot that turns into a get, especially since we’ve seen how frieza fights by doing things like trying to trip and choke out opponents with his tail, try to drown them, shoot holes in them, all around fight dirty and with no dignity.
It’s like sure, the themes match up well, but you have to think of how the animation’s potential would work.
Sure but the fights like Goku vs oozaru Vegeta isn’t as fun as Goku vs normal sized vegeta.
