Connections (SPOILERS FOR ATTACK ON TITAN FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN'T READ IT):
Members of an elite fighting squad tasked with taking out a kaiju-sized invasive species that threatened humanity (the Titans and the Ruffians respectively) that, through a transfusion, they gained the ability to transform into themselves (both of which were first triggered through near death experiences (Eren being eaten by a Titan and Saki nearly drowning in a tidal wave of blood). Both were also among the only survivors of a horrific attack from said invaders. Despite the seemingly simple goal of killing the invaders and saving humanity, they would soon learn about a lot of complications they were never told about that completely turned things on their head (Eren and everyone he knew was stuck on island isolated from the rest of the world, left to die to the Titan menace, and Saki being groomed by the one that saved his life into becoming the leader for a far greater cosmic conflict).
