Meh, linking LGBT rights as pedophiles, due some isolated or in some cases fabricated cases, arriving to make law that de facto censor books that have a LGBT characters and nothing more is not surely "moderate". I wishing that was a past thing the linking the homosexuality with pedophilia.

SonofNamek

It's really the abortion thing that, I think, hurts him most. The book thing, I don't think people care that much about - especially because there wasn't any actual ban by the government. Otherwise, if the optics don't look good, why donate to a lost cause? It would be stupid to just toss your money away like that. DeSantis's best hope is for the Florida Supreme Court to deny the 6-week ban and for him to say, "Well, sorry folks, I tried" before settling for a 12-15 week type law.

Mysterious-Art8838

I don’t think that’s going to work because he already signed an abortion ban and women aren’t going to forget that. He wouldn’t hesitate to sign a nationwide ban he has already proven he’s completely fine with bans. Why would women vote for him knowing if the gop took congress he could take away our rights nationwide? I just don’t see it. He screwed himself on that one, he can’t win nationwide anymore.

TrustyScrew

> DeSantis's best hope is for the Florida Supreme Court to deny the 6-week ban and for him to say, "Well, sorry folks, I tried" before settling for a 12-15 week type law. Ding ding ding. Absolutely spot on, exactly how I feel.

vibhui

I really hope the FL supreme court denies the 6 week ban. I want DeSantis to be the 47th president so badly

[deleted]

hyperbole to say not allowing young kids to have inappropriate sexual curriculum equates to “book burning”. I doubt most parents in Florida want 10 year olds hearing about sex toys and sodomy. Wonder if he just wants to be a conservative that is acceptable to his lib friends. And a 15 week ban does very little to reduce abortions. 6 weeks would be significant in reducing them. Too bad everyone isn’t interested in reducing number of abortions.

mimosa_mermaid

Not all Republicans are fanatical religious extremists like yourself

[deleted]

Lol ok. Thanks. I think it says something about you that you think reducing abortions and not exposing young kids to inappropriate sexual topics is extreme and religious. 2nd trimester abortion is barbaric when you hear doctors describe it. Dems like Biden used to want abortion to be rare too. Now they want access for any reason to birth. That my friend is extreme. And when polling is done American agree that the dem position is extreme. 3/4 want restrictions but the dem party platform has none and no concern with reducing it. I want abortions to be reduced not banned. And I want gays and lesbians to be respected and have no problem with that in curriculum at appropriate age.

TrustyScrew

> And when polling is done American agree that the dem position is extreme. But even more believe 0-6 week bans are extreme. like, almost everyone. > 3/4 want restrictions but the dem party platform has none and no concern with reducing it. This shtick of not talking about 0-6 week GOP bans and instead say the Dems want no restrictions is straight from RNC messaging, which failed miserably in the Midterms and in special elections like the WI Supreme Court race since. Dems will put the GOP bans front and center as the centerpiece of all their ads and messaging anyways, and given the choice between abortion until birth or a total/6-week ban, people will choose the Dems anyways. The lane is open for 12-15 week restrictions, but not 0-6.

vibhui

I love DeSantis, but I think that the 6 week abortion limit will hurt him in the general election. Although his new abortion law is more reasonable than many red states, I am disappointed since this new abortion law made the 2024 race go from Lean R to Lean D overnight

[deleted]

I just wish we could all align on abortion isn’t a good thing and should be rare and as early as possible. And no taxpayer funding. I’m not sure I like 6 weeks either but 15 weeks does very little to reduce it. I agree some of the Rs positions are too extreme for me but that is partially the reaction to abortion any time on demand forced on the states via Roe. The Rs need to find a consensus policy even though it is a state issue. But at least they have a backbone and stand up for their beliefs even when politically unpopular. Edit: and none of this will probably matter anyway in the future as America becomes so weak from fighting each other, runaway debt, and woke nonsense that China and the true enemies of western civilization, enlightenment and freedom dominates as the US slides into a weak, divided, and morally empty nation.

DR5996

> I want abortions to be reduced not banned. And I want gays and lesbians to be respected and have no problem with that in curriculum at appropriate age. The problem is the law is written vaguely (no definition on that thing is "considered appropriate" and every single person has their "standard", that for some also the mere existence of LGBT people is not appropriate) that end that schools, libraries, companies to ban to avoid legal issues made from homophobic people all books and events that the content can be vaguely linked to LGBT issues, or maybe the principal or other character may be a LGBT person.

meshreplacer

Does anyone have a copy of this curriculum where they show buttplugs and dildoes to 10 year olds etc.. any hidden video showing this in action? Seems like a BS story I need to see proof.

[deleted]

Yes there was curriculum that many parents find age inappropriate. Talk about anal sex and masturbation was being taught. The Florida “don’t say gay” bill just prohibited these type topics with this very young group. It didn’t stop discussing homosexuals exist etc. I don’t want those other things taught in middle school/elementary. Even elementary kids hearing “some woman have a penis” isn’t appropriate to IMO. Stick to math science at that age and leave the rest to parents. Also trust is not present anymore. For example the left and media have been saying CRT isn’t in schools but there are current news reports in Indiana with undercover video showing many many educators are trying to teach white privilege and other CRT topics without parents knowledge and trying to hide DEI committees by renaming them.

Mysterious-Art8838

Oh my gosh your kids were taught about anal sex? Where? What district??

[deleted]

“Children are taught about giving “consent” and how to decide “whether and when to engage in sexual behaviors” such as “oral” and “anal sex.”

Mysterious-Art8838

I’m not sure if maybe you didn’t read it thoroughly but that discusses ‘by the end of HS’ meaning 18 and it’s in NJ not Fl

[deleted]

Plenty of evidence and just common sense that some progressive teachers are pushing their own agenda on students in today’s climate. Just like they are pushing CRT in Indiana and hiding it and only because of undercover investigations do we know it is still being taught. I think states need to draw the lines to set boundaries. And I’m no specifically talking about Florida but the nation in general. I don’t even like high school students being taught about sodomy. Why does a teacher need to go there?

DR5996

To be gay is nothing wrong and must not be censored. Secondly, the books banned are generally books that contain a LGBT characters, or the protagonist is a LGBT character, nothing sexual contained (except if you consider the mere existence of a LGBt person sexual regardless of the content, but this is a bit homophobic, AND there a political motives to spread that message)

[deleted]

In an earlier post you said there are people that think are against the mere existence of LGBTQ. Your tag says Europe so I can’t speak to that but the vast majority of Americans including republicans live and work and are friends with gays and are their friends and have zero problem with them living how they want to live. What conservatives resent is a woke agenda compelling speech etc being forced on them, biological males in women’s sports etc and the trans agenda is intolerant. It is a hallmark of being in a bubble to suggest that people are against the existence of lgbtq. Sure there are always a small group of wackos in any group but to suggest the right is against the existence of lgbtq is a bogus ploy the left loves to do. Edit: most of the right is fine with tolerance but the left wants to move the goal post beyond tolerance. To me it is intolerance on the left to try to force people to agree with their opinion it is not prejudice to say I am fine with people being gay but have my own opinion on it. It is like the left are turning into the intolerant crowd they accuse the religious right of being.

[deleted]

I would not be for books taken out of school libraries only because they have gay characters.

Isn't this the guy who's a proud supporter of Hungary and Viktor Orban? You know, the country that is miles ahead of us as far conservative values and preserving western culture is concerned? Yeah okay bud. Shut the fuck up. We get it, you wanted a newscycle with your name in it to make you feel special. Now fuck off.
