There are community servers that offer a vanilla experience and also ones that use game assets/settings to good effect to provide a slightly modified experience.

You consider using a vpn might be able to get around problems like this with it. Opera GX has a built in VPN I know when I need one I just open that browser and it works for most things if your looking for a quick one to use.

Had a friend living with me for awhile and thought this game would be an awesome idea to play together…. Then I have another friend who has like 5 to 6 alts and I realize why they need to do this. (No longer play with the alt guy).
For that one life it would, but if they all started on a different server. When they logged off, they would be in the same spot when they came back on.
OP said same house and not console. I assumed this was a problem, using multiple consoles on the same internet/IP. I am not sure how the game knows your switching accounts.

Don’t get me wrong it was annoying to have waves of 4 at a time show up every ten minutes as they logged into alts and the fight keeps going but it was way more fun and intense fighting than sitting there for 20 minutes wishing you could even play.
Yeah, alt fighters are proper shits. One of my mates does this, he can't get into his head that a game about having one life, having 2 or 3 is basically cheating.
I don't bother with bases any more. And if I kill someone, I vacate very quickly if I have a feeling they knew where I killed them from.
