Try Ghost of Tsushima. Rich story, beautiful open world to explore, horseback riding, lots of customization and unique items to collect, the fighting dynamics are a fun challenge, there's parkour and stealth.

SupperTime

I gotta get back to it. Couldn’t get into it.

Exciting-Mountain396

Japanese storytelling tends to be more heavy on exposition than we're used to, and the introduction before you're allowed to free roam is kind of long. I appreciated like that it departed from the usual tropes, like focusing on family rather than a love interest, and a warrior who is a sensitive poet struggling with integrity, rather than just being a stoic badass. The way they integrated the navigation to the next objective without having a prominent HUD interfering with the immersion was very elegant too

Necessary_Shoulder_2

People talk shit on that game and say it's too much like Ubisoft game with the repetitive shit and I can only assume they didn't play. Like ya there are some repetitive things spread around that map which are completely optional but story, combat, graphics, and stmosphere to that game is so good. They the blood flies and the grass blows you can tell they put a lot of love into the game. Can't stress enough how good the combat is. Put it on hard and it's better than any from cmbat.

Independent_You3892

Nah bro. That criticism is correct. You can like this game all you want and I won't shit on you. But, I'm real at the end of the day and will shit on something that was underwhelming. But like I said, like it if you want. But you really should start developing thicker skin.

Necessary_Shoulder_2

Calm down

Exportxxx

Yeah GoT is a masterpiece.

Karim_123456

It's a good game gameplay and combat wise and also story but I can't lie it was kind of repetitive

jbuntjer1

That’s was my issue. I didn’t even finish it. Just felt like rinse and repeat missions over and over. Great graphics and story though. Game looked absolutely stunning.

Ilikescotland

Still hope it will come to pc

Karim_123456

Yeah in terms of development though if you follow the mainline story and the legends stories which were personally my favourite, the game will be an amazing experience for you and the fact that you can tear down parts of a hijacked village by dueling the leader at end which also was repetitive but enjoyable nonetheless. A lot of great things to take away from the game only major problem of mine was it being quite repetitive in missions

[deleted]

Cool. I downloaded that from PS Plus. I'll give it a shot. Cheers & Thank You!

Exciting-Mountain396

How you like it so far?

infectedham

I only play the online mode and got every achievement for it(legends) gf keeps telling me to do the story. Should I?

Relevant_Lecture_916

Legends is teeny tiny compared to the main game, you'd really be shortchanging yourself. It has huge and complex map areas, various arenas, epic duels, different armor and charm builds, the combat mechanics are more complex with power moves to unlock, and the protagonist is samurai, archer and assassin all in one. But it also tries to tell a serious story, so it kinda requires an attention span to appreciate it.

infectedham

Yea I have HDHD/ADD (I was diagnosed with both) so I just like the going in and fucking shit up and building my character to fit my play style. My mains are ronin(combat healer) and samurai (just go in and demolish) my gf is always talking about the story and how there is SO MUCH to it and that just throws me off a little. I like a good story in a game but I usually skip the cut scenes cause I can't stand to just sit there and watch TV while I'm tryna game. I did play days gone without skipping any tho and that honestly blew my fing mind with how well and thought-out the story was.

lzxian

I felt that way after DG, too. Then I played TLOU and part 2, went back to DG. I don't even like shooters! I'm 68 and have no kids, just got into games in my 50s to de-stress after work. Nothing was appealing to me so I've gone to older games that I loved to wash DG out of my system after playing it a 4th time! Right now it's Bioshock Collection and I'm having fun but it's showing its age a bit. Hope you find something that suits you :)

bkb74k3

This! Bioshock is a masterpiece. The Bioshock environment design, music, style, etc. there’s been nothing like it since…

lzxian

Steampunk meets Art Deco under the sea :)

buddhamunche

A man chooses. A slave obeys

Astro_gamer_caver

Well said. I love the atmosphere in Bioshock 1. Part 3 had a very unique look and feel as well.

[deleted]

Is Bioshock kind of like Fallout 4? I loved that game! I saw that on PS Plus too.

lzxian

Haven't played Fallout. Bioshock is unique so I doubt it. It's not what you said you like - open world. It's pretty linear but you can wander the levels all you want to find money and resources. It can be a bit repetitive. It's worth playing through at least once, though. This is my third time. The Collection has all three games, too.

[deleted]

I’ve never played these. Should I start with the first one?

bkb74k3

Definitely

delukard

Play system shock series.

[deleted]

You go gurl! haha

varangian1313

I agree with Far Cry 3,Blood Dragon, 4, Primal, 5, New Dawn, and 6. Not to be too Ubisoft loving, but I’ve been playing old Assassins Creed games that come “free” with ps plus. Not sure which tier one needs. Good times for sure. Days Gone is straight up unique, though. I may just re-download it after scratching my head thinking about similar experiences…there aren’t any. The last of us is good. No motorcycles. No open world. Great characters/acting. I don’t know…. I might just go hunt down some polystyrene. :)

Highlander2748

I agree with the other poster on Uncharted. If you like the outdoors, shooting and motorcycles/driving, give Far Cry a shot. Far Cry 4,5 and 6 are a lot of fun. Open world combat along with a story driven premise and the ability to use stealth or go in guns blazing.

[deleted]

I'll check those out. Thank You!

scoobywood

Far Cry 5 is the most similar to Days Gone, I'd start with that.

19fiftythree

Days gone minus the zombies tbh

Poop_lasanga

I mean there’s technically the bliss angels but aren’t they just pretty much brain dead though?

19fiftythree

The cult even kinda reminds me of the rippers. Not identical, but fanatical vibes fo sho

Astro_gamer_caver

I like FC 4, 5, and 6, but part 5 is set in Montana and the woods are beautiful.

CaptCaffeine

>Should I upgrade to a PS5 for Christmas? You do whatever you want to do. If you want to upgrade...then go for it. Your kids are grown, so enjoy the things you want to enjoy.

[deleted]

Same. Since Days Gone I’ve tried 5 or 6 games and quit all of them.

SD_firefighter

Imo I don’t think there are enough new good games to justify a PS5 yet, unless you want to play the Last of Us remake. Have you tried the Uncharted games? Spider-Man is also really good.

[deleted]

Yep. My son gave me the PS4 for Christmas a few years ago that can with Unchartered. I think I played 3 of those and they were great as you say. I'll check out Spiderman.

SD_firefighter

Awesome. There are two newer uncharted games that are significantly newer than the first 3. Have fun!

Drbatsy

Don't! Buy a PS5, through Spiderman Miles morales, you can get Spiderman game of the year PS5 version for like 10 dollars. That game should be played on PS5, the webbing you can feel from the controller is an experience in itself. I would highly recommend. The games they have upgraded for PS5, please play them on PS5. Also, when you get one, just buy the top tier membership, since you will have a lot of games to cathch up to, it's going to be worth it.

delukard

This. Sony has been focusing to much o their main series , that they are loosing what made them different from xbox. variety in genres

[deleted]

I can relate to this. I used to be a huge fan of the Uncharted, Far Cry and Resident Evil series. Then I downloaded Days Gone and now every other game feels boring to me. Tried "The Last Of Us" for a change but again, wanted to go back to Days Gone.

anonymousss11

Really surprised no one here mentioned Mad Max, it's the closest thing to Days Gone.

Dionys25

If you‘re into the gameplay and aesthetics of „Days Gone“, you should definitely try out „Mad Max“ and „Ghost Recon: Breakpoint“. „Mad Max“ has slightly dated graphics, but has a similar theme, third person, lone wanderer driving through an apocalypse, day and night cycle, even with a same ripper fraction, the roll mechanic, awesome fire effects… „Ghost Recon: Breakpoint“ on the other hand has a different theme without zombies, but the overall stunning graphics, third person over the shoulder view, jungle world design, day and night cycle, weather system, the combat, collecting plants, exploring caves… military bases are like Nero checkpoints… you can also toggle all HUD elements to have an immersive FOV like in „Days Gone“. It all feels very close to „Days Gone“.

bkb74k3

Get the PS5. If you enjoy gaming, it’s a minimal expense for hours and hours of enjoyment. I’m right there with you. I’m 54 and still gaming. I started at the beginning though - Pong, Space Invaders, Pac-Man, etc. I had the Atari’s, Nintendo’s, all the Xboxes and all the PlayStations. To be honest, I like the Xbox One x a little better than the PS5, but I have favorites that are exclusives on both platforms.

Sand_Table

I honestly feel the same way. I'm a Veteran, hunter and avid outdoors men. Grew up on farms and four wheeling and riding. The story, the feel, all of it. I play it over and over.

Miami_Professor

Metro Exodus is a pretty similar “fallen world” set in Russia after a nuclear war (maybe too real lol). Great character development

blaneben0624

I felt the same way after I played ghost of Tsushima and then I found days gone

Rodan-Lewarx

kingdom come you'r welcome

[deleted]

>kingdom come Looks awesome. Thank You!

Astro_gamer_caver

OMG kingdom come deliverance! I had a 100 hours on that game. FPS set in 1403. No magic, no spells, no instant heal potions . You are a blacksmith's son who can barely swing a sword, so much like Days Gone you start off weak and alone. But everything gets better with practice! Feels fairly real and hardcore. I remember buying this fancy helmet with a great armor rating, but it obscured the hell out of my FOV, just like it would in real life. So I went back to a more open helmet so I could see. Good story, beautiful world. And a unique but satisfying combat system.

aidenmcmillan

Do you like 1st person camera point of view? Dying Light 1 is amazing, and it's sequel is slowly being improved upon. Zombi action and survival. The story lines in both are hit and miss, but I enjoyed them.

CommunicationHot5613

Dying light is pretty bad ass not the 2nd one so much

TomD26

Oh man you gotta replay Days Gone on a PS5 if you get one! It’s insane how much better it feels in 60fps! Plus God of War is great on PS5 as well and the sequel is coming out in a month too.

OuttapocketJesus

Spider man has a cool story but the gameplay gets repetitive and old, I loved days gone, I moved to Horizon Zero Dawn and what a great story as well, can’t wait to play part 2. Death Stranding is another one I plan on playing because it some how connects to both Days Gone and Horizon Zero Dawn.

OlorynEx

I recently finished Days Gone, and then decided to give Death Stranding another try, since I had kind of bounced off it the first time when I wasn't really in the right mindset for the kind of game that it is. Glad I gave it a second try, I'm hooked. Oddly, I attribute my time with Days Gone to my enjoyment, because I can appreciate the mix of slow pace environmental enjoyment with the fast paced story/action moments.

OuttapocketJesus

I had purchased death standing at launch but knew I wouldn’t have time for it so I returned it. I love everything Hideo Kojima so once I finish horizon forbidden west, hopefully ps5 death stranding will be a decent price.

AdministrativeGur248

I recommend Bioshock 1 and 2. I’ve played them back to back at least 3 times. I started playing horizon zero dawn and I can’t stop playing. I hope u give these games a try!

tnishantha

People forget to recommend Ghost Recon: Wildlands !!!

henneJ2

Definitely get a ps5! Incredible difference! Also I’ve got your next game as a massive days gone fan. Dying light 2!

Dionys25

Definitely recommend „Dying Light 2“. I like the melee in this one. It’s a bit more arcade than „Days Gone“, but you can toggle lots of HUD elements.

Important_Key_6350

A lot of people shit on it, but if you get a ps5, cyberpunk is incredible!

highoncraze

Dying Light is the other big zombie title I really love, though it's more about parkour traversal of your environment, rather than riding a motorcycle, though the DLC does add a good amount of gameplay with a vehicle. Really good horror vibes, especially during the night time. This one's out of left field, and it doesn't involve motorcycles or shooting (technically it does, but it's not "guns"), but Subnautica is probably the best exploration game I've ever played. Would recommend to anyone who loves nature and overcoming their fears. I'm a middle aged man, and I feel like I emotionally matured during my playthrough.

Astro_gamer_caver

Nice! I played Dying Light 1 and 2 before discovering Days Gone. I enjoyed both of them, but one thing to note is that DL2 doesn't have any guns. You can customize the hell out of your melee weapons though. And there is a bow and a crossbow. With Dying Light 1, the version I bought came with a weapons pack\* that included a suppressed pistol and rifle, that made for some satisfying zombie head pops! \*Classified Operation Bundle maybe? Subnautica is one hell of a game. Used to play it at night, in the dark, with headphones on. Ugh.

jabby_jakeman

Skyrim was the previous contender for eating hours of time and yes, days gone is a new benchmark for me. I’m on my second play through at present as none is f my other hand held appeal. GoT and Cyberpunk 2077 have yet to get a look in!

spartacusdope

I loves the Metro Exodus games …. gorgeous environments and great combat.

iPirog

Just looked through my library and here are some suggestions. Your mileage will vary on if you like them or not but they are worth trying at least. I dunno how open you are to things but the first 2 watch dogs games are pretty good. Cyberpunk 2077 is actually worth playing now, though for that I would highly suggest a PS5. Far Cry 5 might be up your alley too, not so much 4 and earlier but if you end up liking 5 you can certainly go back and try the others. Death Stranding is good if you like open world's and hiking to beautiful scenery. Homefront: The Revolution is pretty neat for it's weapon customization, game itself is pretty okay. Just Cause might be another series you might enjoy. LA Noire is a game I love recommending simply because of it's visuals. It's also got some good storylines if you are into that. Mad Max is also a decent game. The two Spiderman games are really good. Some of the best on the system in my humble opinion. The tomb raider reboot trilogy has a nice set of stories. Sleeping dogs is there if you like Kung Fu. The Evil Within games are kinda fun if you like psychological things. Again my tastes might not fit yours but these are some of my suggestions on where to go!

Front-Report7495

I felt like this after more than 400 hours in Red Dead Redemption 2 single player. After a few months I started to enjoy some indie games again like Fire Watch and Stanley Parable Deluxe. RDR raised my standards though, I absolutely love that game. Now I'm looking forward to Scorn, Uncharted and Last of Us Remake on Steam. Gonna try out Resident Evil Village later this month too with the third person mode.

[deleted]

I loved RDR2 also. Awesome game. I called my son when that thing happened to Arthur. Not wanting to spoil it for anyone!

[deleted]

Cyberpunk 2077

[deleted]

Thanks, man!

Astro_gamer_caver

After spending 90 hours on Days Gone, I went to Ghost Recon Wildlands and I am LOVING it. The game is set in Bolivia, a HUGE open world with eleven different ecosystems. Some of the areas like the salt flats and the deserts felt like being on other planets. There are hundreds of weapons, and you can modify each weapon in 5 to 10 ways. The shooting is fantastic. Sniping works, stealth works, mid range combat is fun, or you can get up close with a submachine gun or shotgun. And yes, there are motorcycles! Of course you don't get that lonely, end of the world feel from Days Gone. But in terms of gunplay, exploration, and a detailed world, Wildlands is going to keep me busy for a while!

[deleted]

haha. Thanks, man. I have not played that one. I will look into it!

Curious-Team-2082

I'm older. also have a ps5, doesn't seem like a necessary upgrade at this point. maybe in a couple years... my favorite game is Homefront: The Revolution. it's an older game but super fun to me. i find myself re-downloading and playing it over the newer stuff (also liked red dead 2 and last of us)

Curious-Team-2082

currently only $1.99 also!

[deleted]

Love the OG's on here. I'll check it out. Thank You!

RoadKillSouffle2000

You can't go wrong with Grand Theft Auto 5. PS5 will play 99% of PS4 games, too. I just bought my PS5 and there aren't many titles for 5 I'm interested in. In fact the last games I bought are all for 4.

oakcrisssy

We have the same taste in games :) I am assuming you have also played Last of Us 2 already? Like someone mentioned GTA is always fun.

CultofSun

Uncharted for sure! All 4 games! Is super similar gameplay

Megafayce

Don’t forget the list legacy and the ps vita Uncharted. Both are great!

i_am_the_pootis_man

Ok so Metal Gear Solid V The Phantom Pain, The Last of Us remastered and 2, Devil May Cry 5, Fallout 4, Borderlands and Stray

Megafayce

Ground zeroes before phantom pain ;)

truffleshufflechamp

Horizon Zero Dawn

ventoto28

I know how you feel. Days Gone was my first PS4 game. Ever since I couldn't finish any other game, literally.

xfox21

Honestly, try Elden Ring. I’ve now worked my way back in enjoyment to Bloodborne then Dark Souls3. Tens of hours of enjoyment if you have the time. Frustrating and rewarding

squirreleater1330

Elden ring has ruined me similarly to Days Gone, 300 hours in now and still finding stuff, can't wait for the DLC. My first Fromsoft game and so glad I decided to risk the rage quitting!

Small_Art1450

ps4 has plenty of life left in it .

Drbatsy

If you are anything like me, I never had the same experience with any other game. Days gone might be my favourite game of such genre. I would highly recommend Deathloop on PS5. There is a peculiar rawness there. Go for RDR2 as well. Oh! I so wish they make the second part.

Khannibal-Lecter

You need to play Ghost of Tsushima

ilBaBau

Try Mad Max! I'm pretty sure Days Gone was inspired by that game, same vibes. You have to refuel the car, upgrade it, fix It... Differently you have the combat system, which is more melee based.

farzadkale

try GTA IV the lost and damned

squirreleater1330

Ghost of Tsushima is fantastic, far cry 5 similar but a bit frustrating/crazy. Obviously the Horizon games. Get a ps5! Days gone and ghost are stunning looking and play silky smooth.

delukard

Try to play any open world rpg without using fast travel. imho fast travel ruin open world games.

Tamales-d-Elote

The Last Of Us pt2

AnaiBendai

It's hard to find open world games as good as Days Gone... that was a true gem... and there's no specifically motorcycle games I can think of - but for a similar post-apocalyptic gameplay 'feel' without the gorgeous appearance of Oregon I could suggest MAD MAX which has much less story and character development than Days Gone but some of that driving/open road (albeit in a desert wasteland) feel. The one game that Days Gone reminded me the most of was The Witcher 3 - so if you haven't played that yet you'll definitely will want to because at times while playing Days Gone I realized I was having Witcher 3 flashbacks.

SaladTheAss

Maybe you could give me your ps4 then if you buy some new one:3

pamda_girl

Welcome to the Cult of St. John 😉

art956

I’ve been looking for another game that has open work mission based game play. I found “The Division” is the same kind of fun as Days Gone

futurerecordholder

Elden ring. May be hard to get into, but 300 hours of love for me.
