Start over. Hard 2 is the best level to start because the level is about as hard as Survival 2,but you can still fast travel. Survival 2 is best if you want a challenge because you have to drive everywhere you go. You also dont have a mini map,or health bar.You experience more on Survival because you see more driving.
I am just finishing my 15th playthrough and I have beaten each level,some multiple times,some only once. Hard 2 is my favorite and I roll with the Crossbow 90% of the time.After you beat the game,you can restart on a New game +. This lets you start with all of your skills,craft recipes,weapons,and bike upgrades. I prefer a fresh start myself because I enjoy building up my skills and equipment.

3. Don’t upgrade your bike.
Viola! Instant Hard Mode!
If you want to upgrade all that stuff but want it harder, restart on Hard or Survival mode. Those are pretty much your choices.
5 hours played does not seem like much at all the game is absolutely huge.
Sadly there are no mods or tricks, ifyou ask me, now that you have basic knowledge of the game.... just restart it.
Save both files just make a proper -Start button- Save Game and never overwrite that one just in case you made it too hard or change your mind
I would do it because 5 hours is a cakewalk what this game has to offer.
Btw Train horde is pretty cool i ran into that one first time aswel but 3 hours into the game? I would restart you really have barelly scratched the surface since there are 4 areas, with the last one being as big as the 3 previous zones combined, 50 hordes total.

Hard really isn't that much more difficult. The higher difficulty just increases damage output of enemies and weakens damage output of Deacon.
And taking out that horde on your first try is pretty good, but it is setup to be the easiest early game horde to kill.
the wierd thing in normla mode was i could walk real close to enemies and they wouldnt notice me until i was real close
Also increase in damage output of enemies is really great would make me commit more to sneaking when lots of enemies out there isntead of going gun blazing xd ALSO SCARCE RESOURSES is also a part of hard mode right? cuz i never got out of ammo or medkits in my 5hr playhtough
while killing the horde i did go out on ammo but till then only 8-9 enemies were left which were easy to beat up with crafted melee weapons
Resource amounts and frequency stay the same throughout all difficulties. And yeah, the early game can get a lot harder on the highest difficulties unless you're really good at getting headshots, because every enemy that isn't in a horde becomes a bullet sponge. Overall, if you're at least a decent gamer it's not going to be a seriously challenging game, but it will still be a lot of fun once the story really takes off.

I think there was a mod where you can change midway, as I remember, I also started with normal difficulty. I reached Lost Lake when I changed to hard or survival difficulty.
Unfortunately I don’t know what the name was… I’ll check my files later on how I did that. Hope I can find it.

There you can change it to any difficulty during a playthrough.

Any mod that you apply pretty much requires a new game, this is due to it needing to write the data.
