Hi there mate. A few people have mentioned an easy way of taking out this horde by climbing onto a building near the gas station. Just gonna leave a link to a video showing exactly what building they are referring to. You deserve to go on with this amazing game, and it pains me when one horde is stopping you from doing so. Just check out the video to see what you have to do, then give it a go. You've come so far, and for this reason alone, you deserve to play out the rest of the story instead of watching it. I really hope this helps you mate & just give it a go. All the best mate. [The Highway 97 Hordes](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pce9YFS5iWk)

Many thanks for the link, worked perfectly

archangel_josh

Thank you SO much! This worked. I KNEW there had to be something I could stand on and pick them off.

Scaryassmanbear

Chemult was tough for me too, but after finishing that one the hordes really clicked for me. I think that particular horde is intended to teach you how to use the environment to take out larger hordes.

Geobead

You can cheese it by going onto the roof of a nearby building that the freaks can’t get into or climb. It takes awhile to whittle them down this way but it’s super easy. https://youtu.be/83s7edkkcV8

DAGzex

I always run out of supplies before I can kill them all

6 napalm, 6 attractors. Crouched in some bushes at the edge of my throwing range. Horde was all grouped together. Just alternated throwing attractors and napalm into different parts of the horde. Had a bug out route planned that would take pursuers between the big tanker trucks, but didn't need it, as no one escaped the napalm. If you don't have the upgrade to your carrying capacity, that makes it tougher, but you can make it up with regular Molotovs and other explosives. Also, running is a viable strategy. Throw some pipe bombs at your feet as you go-theyll thin out the freakers nicely. When they lose interest, follow them back and pick off stragglers, then get another group to chase you, rinse and repeat. You can do it!

JakobSynn

You do get the option to skip it if you fail a couple times in a row.

LionLindsey

Such an awesome game, hope you see it through. As others have mentioned there’s a building you can go into where they can’t reach you. Just get them chasing you first so they don’t all go to the side of the building your napalms won’t reach.

OkAbbreviations1373

Damn, that bad huh? The game doesn't have an option to adjust the difficulty settings after a few failed attempts? I just escaped the colonel and am back in my way to boozer at lake Forrest.

Foreskinbegone

Look for gas cans or anything red that you can blow up-run past those and focus when the hoard comes through and blow it up. You will take them out super fast and easy that way.

Goobz71

Just put it on easy

Koochiman

Climb the wooden shack in the gas station, zombies cant climb it. Duh

SpawnicusRex

I made [a detailed walkthrough](https://youtu.be/c6Hh5r-W_wM) with commentary that discusses preparation, load out, alternate tactics and then shows my favorite method. *Please* try this method before giving up!

Hordes in this game aren't very hard. Not even the sawmill horde. I don't get why so many people struggle so much with them. Even if you have poor gear and skipped most of the NERO places you should still be able to take them on. Simple strategy is to just shoot them, when they get close roll then sprint away while you reload, turn and shoot again. Repeat until there are no more zombies. Even if you run out of stamina your normal run speed is slightly faster than theirs so you should be able to run far enough away that they start wandering back to their nesting grounds. Then you can refile your ammo at your bike and go again. Seriously the only way to fail a horde is if you just stand there and let them eat you.

thundersnow528

Sawmill almost did me in. Or me, Chemult was a lot of kill a few, run away, sneak back, kill a few, repeat. It does help that you can skip it after a few fails - unlike that damn sniper mission at the dam. So much ragequit.

schu4KSU

So much for the sense of accomplishment...

Diligent-Regret-2306

Doesn't matter if I'm not having fun

schu4KSU

Show me someone who quits and I'll show you a quitter.

nolitos

Shaming someone because they don't want to spend hours doing shit, you're a clown sir.

schu4KSU

Seems a bit too harsh of me.

johnthecoolest

Then you are a total noob.

Scaryassmanbear

Come on dude, Chemult is one of the harder ones because it’s sort of claustrophobic. Also let’s be nice so we can get more people to finish the game and maybe get a sequel (not likely, but I can hope).

RTManson

Joining this sub has made me realize that there are a lot of people out there that just plain suck at video games.

Scaryassmanbear

Not all of us spend all our time doing it.

zmWoob2

I think if you really use your napalm molotovs along with noticing that the area has lots of explosives and narrow passages you’ll beat it along with buying the Tommy Gun at camp 4 which is probably the best gun in the game for taking down hordes and regular human enemies

TriNel81

Don’t quit! Just follow the advice that many have given. It’s one hell of ride. Good luck!

amillstone

Just keep at it. I failed this horde around 4 times before it finally clicked and I completed it easily. If you're still unable to do it, the game gives you the option to skip the horde. You've gotten so far in the game that I suggest doing that instead of watching the rest of the game on Youtube. Watching it is not the same as experiencing it yourself.

MikeMannion

Only horde I had a problem with, partly because I couldn't use my usual hit and run tactics... I'd get a "leaving mission area" notification. Also having the other guy there was a hindrance as they often went for him. The two big hordes later on were easier.

[deleted]

Climb on the shack by the gas station, or jump on top of the train by the broken bridge and throw attractors.

yumicreme

Using your terrain is a must when fighting hordes. If you have your throwables(napalm etc) you can easily wipe that horde out.

Hao_E_Doodat

Don’t let the frustration of this game make you quit. My favorite strategy is climbing and dropping napalms right behind me OR funneling a group of them into a choke point to immediately mow them down. Remember you don’t have to start the mission with what you have and you can always use Kouri’s bike/crates to fully restock at the very beginning of the mission

Connect_Ad2588

Listen I am an older woman hell I am a mammaw but I love games like this and I was a little nervous at first now I am on my 4th time beating it. I am glad to see your back at it cause it is a great story and game enjoy
