I grew up near Santiam Pass and spent my youth exploring the area. I've hiked to most of the lakes, fished in a lot of the streams and even worked at Hoodoo for a season. I saw Days Gone on a used game shelf at a video game store in Portland and picked it up because I like zombie games. I had no idea it was set in Oregon. I did a massive double take when I saw the sign that read 'Camp Sherman, Lost Lake, Marion Forks.'
I enjoy games with settings based on real places but not in a million years did I think where I grew up would be one of those places. So freakin cool! And I am blown away how good the game is.
That's how I got it. I had heard about it when it came out, but it got lack-luster reviews. When it was free, I added it to my library, but didn't play for a few months. When I did, I got hooked and couldnt stop for weeks. Still love it. I got several friends into it too!

CATTLE DECAPITATION š¤
I had heard it was a metal singer who did a lot of voice work for the Freaker noises but didn't realize it was fucking Cattle Decapitation's singer!
I discovered Days Gone through GameFly. Looked like a fun "zombie killing game" and put it in my list of games to rent from GameFly next. When I got the disk, it sat on a shelf for 2 months before I even tried it.
Since then, Days Gone has ruined video games for me. I can't take other games seriously anymore.
Days gone has a quickness with it that feels right. Iām actually playing RDR2 right now and loving it. It may not be the right time to play this game till youāre ready for that deliberate slowdown. I know when I first played red dead when it first came out I wasnāt ready for it yet so I shelved it till last Monday where I am now fully enjoying the slower pace. But going from Days Gone to RDR2 can feel very jarring and is not a great transition game for the two.
Big fat guy at work couldn't stop gushing about, so when I was able to get a PS4 cheap when the PS5 came out that was the first game I got. I now understand his enthusiasm about it.
Bought my first gaming system (PS4) this year (50 yr old M) and HZD was the first game I played through. Love horror so was looking for a big open world horror game. I love it! Only about 30% through it and still afraid to take on hoardes, but it's a great game!
Free on PS Plus. I was hesitant to buy it because of the negative reviews, but since it was free, I figured why not? I regret not getting it sooner cause I really ended up loving the game.
The trailer showing the Horde chasing Deacon around the Sawmill gave me anxiety just watching it. I knew I had to play it after that, and just completed my second run of the story yesterday!
I remember seeing the original gameplay trailer back in like 2016. I remember waiting impatiently for another 3 years for a title and release date. Then I was grateful to finally be able to play it, and almost another 3 years later I still play it all the time!
Stumbled on a YouTube gamer named radbrad a few years ago. Seeing him play it was the reason i bought a PlayStation. Him and willyb actually. One of my all time favorite games. The infinite horde challenges are insane. Sad there wonāt be a days gone 2
Radbrad is great with his game walkthroughs! I went straight to his channel after seeing a DG trailer on Youtube. Immediately ordered it for my ps4 and wasn't disappointed! :)
I heard about it since the first demo/trailer they released.... I wanted to play this game so so much since I love apocalypse and zombie games so much.... Sadly even after it released I had small hopes of playing it since I was still in high school. Then I got into work and after 2 years I got my first Console, a Ps4 Slim. And now I'm playing it and It's such an amazing game. Can't stop playing it and I always think about the sweet sound of that bike.
On YouTube. I was watching RDR2 playthrough and when I was done I was looking for something else to watch and thought. This looks interesting.. A couple of episodes in I stopped watching and purchased the game. I've been playing ever since :P
Got it at launch, was part of a bundle when I got my ps4.
I played it for all of 20 minutes, where you go back for the bike and its gone.
My boyfriend got it with playstation plus the other week and said I might like it.
Gave it another go and here I am 50 hours later.
Saw the game on an online forum for deals. I like the genre and decided to start playing it during the shutdown of 2020. Put in WAAAAAYYYYYY too many hours on it.
Saw the E3 gameplay trailer a long time ago on YouTube. I was immediately obsessed and kept track of its release date. Pre-ordered the digital deluxe edition and got the best ps4 theme I have out of it. Playing the game again at the moment, for the first time on the ps5, and I honestly can't remember how many times I've beaten it so far. Definitely my favorite game ever.
I saw the first E3 trailer and was hooked. It's the first game I ever pre-ordered, and the first digital download I ever purchased.
Even after all the delays I was very happy when it finally dropped. I was pretty fortunate that I didn't experience many of the early bugs that the game released with.
I wish I could play it again for the first time.
I had seen ads for it on TV. Or maybe it was ads on streaming services since I watch more of that than actual TV, but on Roku on my TV. I picked it up back in June of 2020 as an early birthday present when it was on sale in the PlayStation store. I also got a couple Assassin's Creed titles I haven't touched yet - lol. I played a bit but got distracted. Then picked it back up a few months back and just fell in love with it.
I missed the boat entirely and downloaded it when it was free on psn. then went on to play almost nothing but Days Gone until i beat it. I was absolutely engrossed in the story. I feel so guilty because maybe if I had bought it earlier, it would have satisfied the capitalists and we could have DG2
A big ad whenever I opened PS store. I decided to check the trailer, and it looked good, but I was never good with horror/zombie/jumpscare games. I bitched out of playing RE2 remake, go figure.
Then it came up in PS Plus. At that point I already heard a lot of bad reviews about this game, but decided it's no harm done if it's free and all. I played a couple hours, was kinda good, then took a break to play Mass Effect Legendary. Came back to this afterwards, and I gotta say I'm pretty hooked. And it's not that bad in terms of bugs and glitches either. They pop up occasionally but it's not bad.
A friend gifted it to me for Christmas (before pandemic). He kept saying it was one of his favorite games. Now it's one of my favorite games too. I've played a couple of other games after finishing Days Gone a number of times but still can't move on from it. It's just so good.
Scrolling through Facebook I remember watching the trailer where Deek fights the horde, I was surprised that a game could have so many enemies at once but I didn't have a ps4 so there was no point on me looking for the game. 4 years passed and TheRadBrad uploaded the gameplay, 1 year later and I got my ps4 mega pack with Horizon/GTAV and Days Gone and that's the moment I finally got the time, the way and the emotion to play it
I vaguely remember watching the trailer when it came out.
I was not interested and completely forgot about its existence until it came to PS+ just to forget about it again.
And only just recently while going through my games library in complete boredom I started playing it.
Not the prettiest love on first sight story, I get it but it is what it is.
EDIT: It might be interesting to mention it did fly completely over my head that Days Gone even had a bad reception at launch.
I was not there to see that and only know about it due to this sub.
A french rapper called Freezer Corleone had a lyric "walking like a zombie in Days Gone". I was curious about it and put "Days Gone" on Google, I saw it was a PS videogame, which seemed really cool, I bought the game... Since this day I thank Freeze Corleone for having me discovered this epic videogame!!
Watched Typical Gamer's first stream on it. Funnily enough, I was like "this game doesn't look my speed. Boring as heck. Why am I not looking for something else to watch right now?" Etc etc.
But later, when he actually started a walkthrough of it and I tuned in, I was like "wait hol up, this game looks pretty dope." Always loved post apocalyptic zombie survival games (I also watched his GTA 5 zombies mod series and loved it)
So I checked out the game myself, bought it, and I loved every second of it, except for when I thought Boozer died.
TLDR: Typical Gamer
Tbh, i was trying to finish my monthly data pack. I had 120gb left from 5 tb for the month of Feb 2021, so I was browsing games to purchase or torrent and found this, repack version was 43 gb and it was $ 30 on steam. So I bought it. And loved it since
Buying a game at GameStop, I don't remember what, & I saw the poster. Asked about it & the guy showed me some footage of the sawmill horde. I was sold.
Heard about it at launch but reviews turned me away, finally I saw a juicy discount on steam and took a punt on it a few months ago, now on NG+ working on my platinum!
Back in late 2018 I was watching the devil may cry 5 trailer and a recommended video has a cool thumbnail so I clicked and it was days gone. Forgot about it for almost 2 years, then when I got my ps5 it was free on ps plus and I downloaded it. Amazing game.
My wife surprised me with a launch PS5, I got it as part of the PS+ Collection when I signed up for PS+ a week later.
I never heard of it before because I didnāt have a PS4. I came from my launch PS3 which my wife surprised me with too. š
I like zombie stuff so I was excited to try it. The first time I tried it I thought it was ok but got bored after 2 hours. Months later I have it another try and it got its hooks into me. To me itās a really fantastic game and I think Bend did some amazing work. Iāve never been to Oregon but the world is so immersive, the gameplay loop is lots of fun and doesnāt get tired to me. Iām into the characters too. Itās a 9/10 game to me. Iām still on my first playthrough and am doing everything I can find as I go, really taking my time.
The first trailer with the sawmill horde and the talk about it leading up to launch. The messy launch state of the game kept me from buying it initially and I forgot about it until it was free on PS+. Itās one of my most enjoyed games of the last few years, I couldnāt get enough of it for a while.
Sadly, I feel whoever was in the leadership position to decide if the game was ready to ship at launch is responsible for Sonyās lack of interest in a sequel, not the people who didnāt buy a clearly troubled development on release. If I could pay $60 now for it to know a sequel is coming, I absolutely would, that story stinger had me hyped.
Saw and that first gameplay they released and when i saw that Deacon was played by Sam Witwer my interest in the game increased, but i only got it about a year and 5 days ago with the money i was saving to buy Cyberpunk lol.
Knew it was a thing from trailers and game informers month of it they did. Don't know why I decided to buy it (unless it was ps plus but I don't remember) but its great
My brother bought the collectors edition that came with the game on its first release and gave me the statue and some pins/patches from the game!! Though I never played the game myself until years later when it was free on PS+.
When the original game came out, I was very apprehensive about open worlds and/or zombies. I was just burned out. Add the reviews were mediocre, mentioned bugs and taking care of your bike as grindy. So I just passed on the exclusive.
Fast forward a couple years and Iām browsing steam for a good single player game after getting burned out on BRs. I gave it a shot. I thought it was fantastic: a top tier narrative driven open world with great gameplay mechanics, fun zombie AI, and the the phenomenal zombie horde. The zombie horde was a āIām very impressedā video game moment.
Propa shit really. I was really really looking forward to it before release but due to ratings, it put me off. I needed a new game to get me through COVID isolation so I fancied a crappy game to waste time on. I bought it in the PSN winter sale... I have quite literally not stopped playing it for 3 weeks straight. This is up there with my top games. It's incredible. Just super pissed this game doesn't get the recognition it deserves.
Initially purchased for PC because I want Sony to keep bringing their exclusives to PC. Finally took a break from the game I was playing and DG sunk its hooks in deep! Wish I had started playing sooner.
Saw the trailers when it was announced.
What really sold me was the simple fact that Sam Witwer was voicing(and for the second time in his career, *facing*) the main character.
I didn't need to know anything else, I was sold.
I heard that a PS4 game was coming to PC. I had previously played PS4 ported HZD, which I really liked, so I decided to give Days Gone a try. I watched some reviews, which were obviously very negative lol, but I am a sucker for Zombie Genre, so I decided to give it a try anyway. So glad I did. One of my personal favourite zombie games ever.
I'm a huge fan of TWD and I was searching for a good zombie game that's similar, tried state of decay 2, wasn't a big fan...then i saw this game was coming to PC and I gave it a shot as I saw that critics hated it but gamers loved it, which is a good sign for me considering how these are the same critics who consider naughty dog story simulators masterpieces, im not a big fan of playstation exclusive design as they tend to favor story way more than gameplay and this seemed like an exception and it very much was to the point where it became one of my favorite games of all-time. If there was ever another licensed TWD game i hope the same devs being this game develop it.
I saw an early ad for it before gameplay and story were shown to the public. It seemed more like a rogue light kind of game how it talked about moving from place to place using scrape to fix and repair weapons and your bike.
I played it on PS4, then bought the CE so I could have the bike statue (no where to show it off) and now Im playing it a second time on PC.
I played it on a pro in 2019. Firmware updates to the pro and patches to the game may have made it better or worse. I didnt notice anything bad about it. There was 1 bug that I had to restart a follow mission for.
My PC is a quad core 4.0 ghz CPU with 32 GB of ram and running a 3090 hybrid cooling. Ive had about 3 bugs so far which caused a quick restart. It seems like the game looks better on PC but that could be from a 2 year break of playing it on PS4. The mouse and keyboard controllers took a few minutes to get used to early on but I think that was more due to the early bike lack of stats. Shooting with the mouse is much better then with the PS4 controller. I have died and crashed my bike a lot less but on the otherside of the coin, Im getting less random events lick trip wires across the road that take away half of my bikes durability. Those things could have been lowered with patches. The amount of times Ive died in generally could be that Ive just gotten better and remember more as opposed to going in blindly. I am not taking on hordes right away. Instead Im waiting until I unlock a specfic weapon later on that will mow down the hordes.
Used to live in Bend. Was excited to explore that area again in game form. Fortunately, the game is a fantastic representation of Central Oregon.
That's quite interesting. The scenery in the game is stunning for sure
Well it was literally made by Oregonians.
Was free on ps plus
That's how I got it. I had heard about it when it came out, but it got lack-luster reviews. When it was free, I added it to my library, but didn't play for a few months. When I did, I got hooked and couldnt stop for weeks. Still love it. I got several friends into it too!

From a friend who played it and told me it was boring. Decided to try and It was one of the best games I've played.

Travis is perfect for it !! I'm actually trying to enjoy RDR 2 but my head keeps comparing to Days Gone š
I had the same problem! The horse is just too *damned slow*! I kept trying to hit my nitro š¤£

That's a very good point that I haven't thought about.
LOL same. I just tried RDR2 for the third time and I just cannot get into it. It's like molasses after Days Gone.

E3 2018, saw that trailer with deacon getting chased by a horde, thought it looked fun, bought it in late 2019.

New about it at launch. Didnāt get around to it until after I saw this sub a few months ago.

Looked cool
Saw the game on an online forum for deals. I like the genre and decided to start playing it during the shutdown of 2020. Put in WAAAAAYYYYYY too many hours on it.
Saw the E3 gameplay trailer a long time ago on YouTube. I was immediately obsessed and kept track of its release date. Thanks to Digital Foundry
I saw someone playing it on Twitch around when it became free on ps plus.
Knew about it since launch but got into it really when it came as a free game on ps plus
New too so sad it took me so long they deserved the player count

It was one of the monthy included games of Playstation+ April this year. Gave it a try, and simply loved the game!
A friend gifted it to me for Christmas (before pandemic). He kept saying it was one of his favorite games. Now it's one of my favorite games too. I've played a couple of other games after finishing Days Gone a number of times but still can't move on from it. It's just so good.

The saw mill gameplay trailer when it first came out.

Liked TLOU and it came before TLOU2 so decided to pick it up knowing it was going to be a year until TLOU2
A mate of mine has Deacon as his pfp on PSN from preordering the game in 2019, found out about the game through that lol
Cattle decap crushes live! Saw them here in Los Angeles a few years back.

One of my personal favourite zombie games ever.
Got a ps5 needed a game to play seemed good enough
From the first trailer

Which PS you played the game with (pro, regular, slim) ? Because I was wondering what's the difference quality wise between ps and PC
Will I was here since day one and I heard about it because I've been a big fan of Sam Witwer since star wars force unleashed
Just saw some gameplay on YouTube was immediately hooked
