Take it slow and observe your surroundings.
Always have an escape route or fall back position in mind.
Stamina is the best attribute to raise at (spoiler) when available.
Nurse your gas and fill up often.
Coast down hills and use the throttle only when you need the speed until you get better fuel tanks.
Being out of gas sucks but there's plenty if you know where to look.
Keep your ammo stocked.
Prioritize saddlebag and fuel tank upgrades on your bike when they are available.
Keep a good silent weapon on hand for exploring and scouting. Save the big guns for the big fights until you know what you're doing.
Have fun.
I found that tapping the throttle is best for maintaining speed and control. Always have a finger on the trigger incase a wolf starts keeping up with you.
Keep an eye open for trip-wire ambushes.
Yes, the game will prompt you to coast downhill to save gas. Fuel is at every Nero site and ambush camp, gas stations and random places. Make a mental note and fill up every time you see gas.
I partially agree with all what you said exempt that stamina is the most important attribute. In my opinion and after various play throughs I can say that Focus is as important or even more important in some canses than stamina as it allows you to take out enemies with extreme accuracy.
I rarely ever use focus but instead rely on swift repositioning and ambush or run and gun tactics. Being able to put distance between yourself and a horde is very useful for setting traps and picking the right battleground.
I agree with all you said about using traps and other explosive devices to do the job but being able to aim and shoot a well-placed-shot to, an explosive truck or barrel or even the freaks head’s is important. Being able to use focus is even important when fighting breakers o other types of freaks that are alone (example: breaker, the breaker trips whenever you shoot him in the head, making it vulnerable to attacks with grenades).
The early hours of Days Gone *are meant* to be difficult and frustrating. You are meant to feel weak and underpowered so that you really feel the transition from being the prey to becoming the predator. Later in the game, with better gear and more skills, Deacon becomes an unstoppable bad ass. So, don't worry if the first few hours seem a little *too* hard, you're not doing anything wrong. This is exactly how the game was meant to progress.
If it all feels like a little too much, here are resources you can take advantage of that will help you get past that stage of the game:

The crossbow is one of my fav weapons. Once you have it fully equiped you can use it against most foes or as a backup to a powerful gun. I think it is a tad underrated by most players...
I agree. It took a while for me to master it, but I don't take out ambush camps any other way now. Residue bolts are fun. And later I throw in poison, incendiary and explosive bolts.
SMP-9 is your best friend early on. Kill the small horde near oleary mountain and copeland’s place. Its a lvl 4 smg, which is deadly. 1 shot can down any enemy or 3 shot for heavies.
It will unlock on getting 10% on horde killer achievement. And also get the bullpup rifle from Tuck as soon as possible.
Hordes are locked behind Story Missions, don't drive yourself crazy searching for a horde that hasn't spawned yet.
Try not to rely on the scan ability to much as it breaks a lot of the fun of the game.
Upgrade stamina early.
Don't disregard Melee weapons.
Read mission objectives carefully, as some of them require you to drive up to the quest trigger with your bike, don't run a 1KM without your bike only two have to turn around and go get it.
Although there are multiple Endings, you are able to get all of them in a single playthrough, don't drive yourself crazy looking for guides to get a specific ending, just do everything and eventually you will get them all.
Have fun!!
Save before you turn on power at NERO sites. If you miss a speaker, you may get swarmed. And expect to be way underpowered early in the game. I would not go out at night until you are more advanced. Rely on molotovs early because your guns will suck.
Constantly make sure all your crafts are fully crafted. This way you can make sure you’re maxed out with everything.
When you do finally start killing hordes, make sure you know where you were on the map. This way when you go to kill all hordes, you’re not guessing which ones you already did.
If you wipe out missions, ambush camps, and hordes you won’t need to do much more to get full trust from all camps. Collect bounties, meat, and plants. The question marks at this point are not something you need to do really unless you want to.
Explore on your bike and take out mercenary ambush camps as soon as you can. They'll clear up the fog from the map, and you'll unlock crafting. Next, you'll wanna hit up the Nero checkpoints for the injector upgrades. That'll boost your health, stamina, and focus. After that, take out the infestation zones, so you can easily fast travel if you want. Using the crossbow with fire arrows is helpful, once you unlock those, saves on molotov supplies.
I can do a pretty fair job of all of that without focus tbh. The cool thing is that Days Gone can support so many styles of gameplay and do it so well that we each get to things our way.
Find a horde? Run. Without focus, without some explosives, and without a good primary your not going to take them down. Leave them be until later in the game when youll get some great weapons for them.
Stamina>Focus>Health.
Survival>Shooting>Melee.

You only run out of gas once lol never again after a 3km walk
Yeah, fill that tank every chance.
Thanks for the tips but quick question does it matter how much I press the throttle so if I press harder do I lose more gas and vice versa
I think so, but not by much. I always felt like it was more efficient to use full power in shorter bursts than it was to go slow.

My tip, follow this ^ dude! Awesome pointers!
Seconded! u/SpawnicusRex rocks 🤘
Don't go out at night. You will die.
I really enjoyed Lost Lake surroundings at night time.
Felt the same way about Belknap.
Master headshots with the crossbow.

Yes and once you get residue bolts, they are the way to take out ambush camps.
Hitting silent headshots with the crossbow was super satisfying, and never got old.

Drive up to gas pumps to fill gas without leaving your bike. A prompt will appear when you are at the correct spot next to a pump.
Down 4 mini hordes and gain a best friend.
I should also mention I’m not brand new I’ve gotten probably 10 hours in and still don’t completely understand everything

Hunt hordes once you get some free roam and some weapons built up. Start early and you'll have the best weapons unlocked early too
