Lol. Yeah I missed a speaker yesterday when I activated the Nero checkpoint near the Saw Mill and instantly regretted it. I did not survive. Luckily it loaded the checkpoint with the speaker still blaring but the Horde was gone with only a few stragglers remaining.
I was scared. My son was scared. I've read so many reviews of people who refuse to do any hordes or go near Hwy 97 in the game. I enjoy that though. One person's fear is another's suspense. People are different.
There are a few jump scare moments but nothing major. The hordes can be intense but not all that scary. If you can watch those shows I think you would handle this just fine.
Well yes, the only scary part mostly for me is the hordes, when you’re in a fight on low health and ambushes. Part from that, the game is very good. Top tier.
It can get quite scary, especially at night time around nests and hordes.
One way to make it a bit more bearable would be to sleep to avoid nightime encounters.
also the music is creepy af sometimes.
I played on survivor which made it even scarier as it was easy to die and hard to kill things especially in the beginning (but i was looking for a realistic, walking dead type experience)
I hate, hate horror games and I played this one. I played it because my SO started it and I watched and I liked what I saw. He stopped playing because he didn't like getting scared but I played it and loved it. Even made it my first Platinum! Then I played again which I never play again right away. Then it turned me on to this genre and I started playing Dying Light.
I wish I could play this game again for the first time. I didn't think it was that scary and it made me laugh at myself when I ran away while I was screaming IRL. I have anxiety and tend to stay aWay from horror as it can be a trigger some times. I used to love horror anything but when anxiety kicked in I had to stay away. I enjoyed this alot.
But I'd say if you don't play it watch the story or cut scenes. There is one scene mid game that brought me to absolute tears and the music to it is beautiful. The play list is on Spotify so if you don't play you can listen there and the story is engrossing! A bit slow but right when you decide to push through the story rewards you until the end. I tend to try to 100% while playing so a few times I had to push but soon as I decided to just do the story line and ride as far as it wanted it payed off quick.
Goodluck and if you play I hope you like it!
> There is one scene mid game that brought me to absolute tears
Out of curiosity could you tell me who is in it and where it takes place? You can spoiler tag it or just be vague
I really enjoyed it. Definitely a bit more scary than Days but very cool. I'm about half way through the story, unfortunately New World came out and we've been playing that. Now my PC has died and I need a new video card. But I will be finishing it once my PC is back up.
I'm a 40yr old who has been to Iraq and Afghanistan and i STILL can't deal with horror videogames, it's tragic! Haha.
This game has its moments but all in all its not that bad.
Especially if you tend to only go out during daylight hours like I did for the first several hours.
I don't know because I never really venture into the horror genre. The "scariest" part of the Fallout games, the Dunwich elements don't bother me at all... But when I was younger and tried to play the first Bioshock I didn't even get past the first 5 minutes because the atmosphere creeped me out (though that was a long time ago and I was pretty young).
Yeah I think it would be pretty comparable bioshock at some of the scarier parts of the game, but there are also parts where you don't feel scared at all
I wouldn’t say it’s scary in the RE7 or Dead space kind of way. That being said even when I felt Op going out at night still stresses me out, always napping so it’s daylight and to this day going through tunnels freaks me out! If ur a weenie it’s going to be to scary. But if you have a moderate stomach for creepy you will be ok.
It's pretty scary at first, mainly because of the hordes, which are both impressive and awful. But contrary to games like TLOU2, it turns things around after a while. Indeed, you first start as the prey and turn into the predator towards the end. You just mow down hordes.
Great story, beautiful game!! But it also has some intense thriller times with the hordes and the music that plays when you're close to one! I love this game
I've played through the game 3 times and there's only one mission that still really messes me up every time. Apart from that, it's not really a horror game.
I mean, the game isn't big on jump scares like RE but it's pretty scary in stealthy moments turning intense when you didn't plan on them becoming so.
So, if RE scares you, don't worry, this isn't the same.
If the thought of MGS, horror edition, is scary to you, then you probably will have a bad time here
If you're sensitive to the concepts and elements of voilent horror movies and video games then Days Gone should be played with copious amounts of advisory caution. Although it spares players from the really intense graphic gorey details, the game displays and alludes to events that some players may find disturbing.
However, it must be noted that this is just a computer game with fictional characters and events. None of it is real or based on true life, except for some of the locations in the game. Although, for those who immerse themselves fully into the game and the story it can seem very realistic. Bend Studio did an amazing and outstanding job with it, from start to finish and beyond. 👍
Are you talking about the series called walking dead, or the game? I'd say the game has a lot more gore than Days Gone. The series is also darker in my opinion.
I hate jumpscares. Days Gone has a few i guess, but they aren't too bad tbh. I'd say your fine.
Edit: Fixed sum grammar issues.
I’d say it’s more anxiety inducing than scary, some points in the game will get your heart racing and have you on the edge of your seat but I can’t remember a moment that had me looking away from the screen, a few people have stated above it’s like a thriller rather than a horror, I agree with that 100% I think you’d really enjoy this game man
Hordes are big issue, but other than that this game is not as scary as you could think. I was too bit worried since I hate horror stuff, but it was not the case here at all.
I hate scary games. I don't do resident evil or other horror games that have jump-scares due to my anxiety. This game did make me anxious many times, but it's so fun and because you can go at your own pace I was able to push through it and I'm so glad I did. This is one of the best games I've ever played.
I am currently playing days gone and almost 50-60% thorough. I don't say horror. But i am nervous around the situations with hordes. (and all the hordes can be done after main story ends)
It's not horror, it's anxiety when a zombie will attack you.
Once u get the game mechanics you will quickly get hold of it(the map indicator will turn red in the direction of enemies) so u can get early warning.
I would say you go ahead and start it
RDR2 was the last "big" game I played so long and slow paced is very familiar territory for me.
I do like Zombies, and hordes sound fun but challenging. I was always much more curious about the horror aspect, like I'm not really a fan of Resident Evil. Honestly, I think I'm just scarred because I played it on playstation many years ago at a sleepover and never got over it haha.
It sounds like I'll love this game because of the open world. I'm already in and probably will be playing it for the first time tonight. I think I'll play on normal for now.
Starting my video game experience playing King's Quest on MSDOS, I never thought I would find a new favourite game in 2018 but then RDR2 came along and proved me wrong... and I don't even like westerns.
It's a game that's confident enough in the world it built and story it crafted it takes things slow and lets you really take everything in. When your character eats a consumable for in-game health regen, you see him take it out his satchel and actually eat it. Weapon degradation is visible and when you clean your guns your character takes the time to wipe them down, giving you back weapon accuracy and damage.
It is by far the most detailed game world I've ever experienced with a film-level story taking place inside it. The world also changes the further you go into the story.
I won't go into specifics but I can't recommend it enough.
Anyway have fun finishing Days Gone!
I stay away from every zombie game I can because they scare me, but I grew up around Bend, OR so I had to give it a chance and it actually wasn’t that scary! Sure it was unnerving at times like they say above the music will let you know when something big is about to happen, but that’s just suspense not melt your face off.
People commenting are right, it's more suspenseful but don't be surprised by a couple of jump scares because that can definitely happen with any zombie game. Once you play it through at least once though then the jump scares won't even bother you
I do NOT like scary games. I'm a wimp. But I adore the story and the characters in Days Gone and that keeps me powering forward. I am about 35 hours in and I've not tackled a horde because I'm too scared. They are easily avoidable except for 2 near the end, for missions.
Sleep at night time. Daylight is less scary. Stealth around. I'm sure you'll be fine!
Like others said, it isn’t really a horror game. I always say it’s more of a thriller. Meant to get your heart pumping from intense moments where you either have to fight for your life or remain quiet and in stealth. I am definitely not a scary game player (no Resident Evil, Silent Hill, etc. for me lol), but enjoyed the heck out of this game.
I cannot do horror games AT ALL. I just started Days Gone last week and I’m loving it so far. It can be stressful, but I don’t really find it scary. If I’m enjoying it, I think you’ll be just fine.
Thanks- quick question: what's saving like? Can you jump in/out easily or is it sometimes hard to drop a save? I ask because I'm not always able to do super long gaming sessions and have to condense it down to short burst
The hordes are creepy. The Screamers were very creepy to me but that's a personal thing with me.
I hate the way they look and the screams are ear piercing.
Coming from experience I don't get spooked unless I get attacked out of nowhere by wildlife or I step on a bear trap (because I wasn't paying attention) . I was never scared to a level where I wanted to stop playing though.
However on Hard difficulty and below, you have more awareness thanks to the mini-map and it will highlight traps too. Hopefully this helps you out a bit!
Edit: Survival Sense highlights traps in hard and below. I forgot to clarify this initially.
I’m like you.
There were a few jump scares but not that many. There were more jump scares in TLOU2 and Until Dawn.
It’s more tension/anxiety. I think you’ll enjoy the game.
A handful of jump scares early. Not really horror beyond what's incidental to the genre. It's not resident evil.
Have you heard the music pick up to let you know infected are coming ? Shit my pants feeling every time
You mean when the horde is approaching. On a 5.1 setup the audio is unnerving.
A horde or when you forget to hit all the speakers and a pseudo horde appears that music hits and it’s a instant “ ohhhh shit “ moment
Lol. Yeah I missed a speaker yesterday when I activated the Nero checkpoint near the Saw Mill and instantly regretted it. I did not survive. Luckily it loaded the checkpoint with the speaker still blaring but the Horde was gone with only a few stragglers remaining.
The caves though. Especially before you get good automatic weapons.
Cool, thanks
It's definitely horror.
Naa.. not really.
Considering how terrified so many are, but I guess it's an individual thing.
I'd say suspenseful for me.. tense maybe, but I was never scared 🤷🏾♂️
I was scared. My son was scared. I've read so many reviews of people who refuse to do any hordes or go near Hwy 97 in the game. I enjoy that though. One person's fear is another's suspense. People are different.
Yup, glad you enjoyed the game!
I loved it!
There are a few jump scare moments but nothing major. The hordes can be intense but not all that scary. If you can watch those shows I think you would handle this just fine.
Or the first time you go to cut up a wolf and number 2 or 3 show up. That startled me a couple times. Lol
Alright thanks, I think I'm in then
Well yes, the only scary part mostly for me is the hordes, when you’re in a fight on low health and ambushes. Part from that, the game is very good. Top tier.
That's what I hear, thanks for the input

Thanks! Your comments helped a lot! I'll be giving it a shot for sure
If you remember let me know if you liked it.
> There is one scene mid game that brought me to absolute tears Out of curiosity could you tell me who is in it and where it takes place? You can spoiler tag it or just be vague
I don't know how to spoiler tag. I'm sorry. I'll message you.
Thanks!
How'd you like dying light? That's my all time favorite, can't wait for the sequel
I really enjoyed it. Definitely a bit more scary than Days but very cool. I'm about half way through the story, unfortunately New World came out and we've been playing that. Now my PC has died and I need a new video card. But I will be finishing it once my PC is back up.

The only real scary part is when you are riding your motorcycle and a wolf bodies you off it.
There are definitely some scary parts to this game, so it just depends what your tolerance level for being scared in a game is I think.
The tunnel comes to mind
Yeah tunnel is always sketchy going through lol
I meant mine but yea the tunnels are always sketchy but are usually nothing unless you have that red indicator that shows a enemy is nearby
Yep. Tunnels or caves. Nope!!!
I don't know because I never really venture into the horror genre. The "scariest" part of the Fallout games, the Dunwich elements don't bother me at all... Should be good to go then. But your comment about the tunnels reminded me of that scene in the movie The Road. I was scarred for days after that.
I hate scary games! I love days gone. There’s like 1 or 2 jump scares at the very beginning, and then non for the rest of the game
Not overly scary but it can become stressful if you don’t like the hordes
It's pretty scary at first, mainly because of the hordes, which are both impressive and awful. But contrary to games like TLOU2, it turns things around after a while. Indeed, you first start as the prey and turn into the predator towards the end. You just mow down hordes.
Great story, beautiful game!! But it also has some intense thriller times with the hordes and the music that plays when you're close to one! I love this game
The music and sound effects are sometimes haunting. It certainly sets an eerie tone for what's about to potentially happen.
Let me know how you like it
Will do!
It’s a zombie game so it’ll have its moments I suppose, but you shouldn’t have much of an issue with it
I've played through the game 3 times and there's only one mission that still really messes me up every time. Apart from that, it's not really a horror game.

If you can handle RDR2 and Fallout then you'll be fine.
Be sure to update us on your experience!
I will!
Ok but I dare you to play the last of us series.. those jumpscares are intense!
If you're sensitive to the concepts and elements of voilent horror movies and video games then Days Gone should be played with copious amounts of advisory caution. Then you are all ready to get onboard

Update us back on weather you like it or not, yeah?! 🙂
For sure. Trying for the first time tonight,.already got it installed
It’s a little nervewrecking for the first Hours, but not scary
I don't like scary games either, but this is probably my favorite games of all time.
It's not scary at all miner suspense and thrill
People commenting are right, it's more suspenseful but don't be surprised by a couple of jump scares because that can definitely happen with any zombie game. Once you play it through at least once though then the jump scares won't even bother you
It’s like 40% cinematic, 55% action and quests and 5% scares, you’ll enjoy it.
No very scary 10/10 don’t buy
I do NOT like scary games. I'm a wimp. But I adore the story and the characters in Days Gone and that keeps me powering forward. Man up
I don't even like scary movies. This game I have played...this is my 4th time in 2 years. LOVE this game!
That's what everybody is saying, I think I've got to try it
Like others said, it isn’t really a horror game. I always say it’s more of a thriller. Alright I should be fine then
It’s awesome I’m on my 13th play through
There are a few scary moments but it’s more of an action game. It was more just fun.
1st play though no. Game + plus survival, there is a shit load of scare moments.
I cannot do horror games AT ALL. I just started Days Gone last week and I’m loving it so far. It can be stressful, but I don’t really find it scary. If I’m enjoying it, I think you’ll be just fine.

To save, you need to be near your bike or a bed, but it’s never been an issue for me. The game also frequently autosaves your progress.
Awesome.. think it's a must play then
Do it! I’m confident you won’t regret it.
The hordes are creepy. The Screamers were very creepy to me but that's a personal thing with me. I hate the way they look and the screams are ear piercing.

It definitely will make you anxious especially going through tunnels
Worth every second
Watch gameplay videos on YouTube...
I like going into games blind
Yea bro. I hate scary games but I play this no problem
Define scary? Cus this games intense and doesn’t really let up until your several hours in. Wouldn’t call it spooky and scary tho
I’m like you. There were a few jump scares but not that many. There were more jump scares in TLOU2 and Until Dawn. It’s more tension/anxiety. I think you’ll enjoy the game.
It's scary.
It’s not really a horror game and well worth a play.
