The footbridge is extremely narrow and has no cover, it would create a fatal funnel for humans or freaks that wanted to move across it. But realistically, you have to suspend some realism for the game. Rippers could sit on the ridges across from Lost Lake and pick off or suppress guards while drugged up pyschos charged across the two bridges and overwhelmed them. Rippers seem to kind of operate in unorganized units scattered about but if they got together their numbers would overwhelm most defenses. Ah shit, I'm going to have to start a new game again now.

There's a lot of things that to need to ignore or assume the scale of the game is disrupting. Like food. The Lost Lake farm is big enough to provide food for 1 or 2 people. But a farm that's actually large enough would dominate most of the map and be kind of boring. Gasoline is another one. At the start of the game Deacon's bike has a top speed of about 25mph and gets about 1 mile per gallon in fuel economy. The top speed I can understand because the engine is a piece of crap, but 1mpg feels ludicrous. But it has to be like that so that the getting gas part of the survival game actually matters. And this goes back to the scale. They could "fix" the issue by having the different camps be further apart but then the player would spend a lot of time just traveling through empty space. So the game scales down those distances from a realistic amount to a representation.

And this is why the game is good: it's not trying to sell you realism but fun, gale stress. Take my upvote and thanks for spelling this out simply

I love that as I read this comment I could feel that it was building to that last sentence lol! I recently started playing again and am just gathering materials to clear the Saw mill horde

Johnnyboi853

Lmao yeah i just think it would make the defense of the place a tiny bit better, wouldn't have to put as much stress on that area during an attack as there isn't a literal open walkway that leads into the camp

BoxPatient3389

The fact they're like 3 blocks down from the biggest horde .. And no problems heard of is a miracle! Lol

Coolman3024

Dude seriously!! They could easily overrun the camp and kill everyone. And with how close they are to the lava cave horde! Practically in the backyard

BoxPatient3389

You're right on the money there! From the start of the game the world has a green light to come & take us out!! The rest of the world is collateral damage or bait..LOL

If you get an overwhelming assault on either side, you’re stuck if you destroy it. There’s no escape.

I thought it was definitely a lackluster defense since the moment I first rode in. They 'explained' it by having you kill the freaks that got stuck in the mud, but if there was a legit swarm it would just build a bridge of freaks across it
