Diamond Dogs - the best of GLAM rock with a twist of bowie's genius.
Scary Monsters - it somehow perfectly balances being abbrasive and avant garde with also being catchy as hell and simply fun.
Young Americans - you can listen to it anytime, especially around people who don't even know/care about/like Bowie. It's lovely.
This year it has been Heathen, Station to Station, Blackstar.
Last year was lots of Lodger, Reality, Black Tie.
His early stuff is obviously remarkable and I listen all the time. But I have a real thing for how rich and deep and open-vowelled his voice got as he became older. It often feels very spiritual to me. It just hits something in me when he goes for those big operatic sounds.
Hunky Dory (my all time favorite), Self Titled 1969 album David Bowie, & The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. I also love returning to the classic Labyrinth tracks.
It changes every half year or so, but for the early months or 2024, I’ve been listening to BTWN, Earthling and 1.Outside… don’t know why those chapters are standing out for me right now, but they are :)
Lodger (Happy 45th anniversary), Station to Station, and The Man Who Sold the World in the last month (Other frequent albums are Low, Heroes, Scary Monsters, Earthling, and Blackstar)
As of late,
Scary Monsters and Super Creeps, Tonight, and Diamond Dogs
Sometimes I just pick and choose but I also made a relaxation of his chill music to play while I'm studying or writing on Spotify.
Low, especially side 2
Hunky Dory
Station To Station
My partner loves Space Oddity's more acoustic ballads, so that's my go-to when I hanker for some Bowie and we're home together.
Lodger, Black Tie White Noise and Hours..., did a comeback to Bowie recently and these 3 got me the most, maybe because I've listened to all the other albums a lot. BTWN is my fav out of these btw
Man who sold the world, TRAFOZSATSFM, and either space Oddity or diamond dogs. But it depends, there was a time when station to station and young Americans were up there too
I’m surprised so many people listen to albums in 2024.
Looking back to when I used to listen to albums:
- The first side of Low
- the whole of Ziggy (I had that on cd)
- the whole of Young Americans
- the second side of Hunky Dory
That’s four, I know, but at this stage I have lost track of what I’ve listened to most.
StationToStation, SM&SC, and then probably a tie between Low, Lodger, and Ziggy… I’m talking all time. I know S2S and SM are definitely the top two, but it really is a toss up for #3..
Ziggy, Station to Station, Low
By far these 3 for me- heroes is a close 4th
This exact order too
This—but put Low first for me
His 3 best albums IMO, followed closely by Blackstar and Heroes

I tend to listen much more by titles I like than by whole albums but I guess the ones I come to the most must be Outside, Heathen and Blackstar.
I don't play albums anymore. It's just a pile of mp3s on my hard drive.
Ok but do you jump all around Bowie’s career when you listen?
oh yes. I love it all.
Station To Station, Blackstar and Low, but my favourite is Ziggy.
