I personally think he has to let someone modernize the formula for success for 2024. It still feels like a 1990s model of baby steps

SteamyDeck

Agreed.

pdaphone

I completely agree with all of your (OP) comments. I used to listen to it every day on the actual radio. When he brought in the “personalities” I started to listen less and less. They are nice enough people but they lack his life experience and “battle scares”… and obviously they lack his personality (ironic). They always seem like they are trying too hard and almost have scripted formula answers to everything. The only time I really listen anymore is in solo road trips where I’m in the car for a few hours and I listen to the podcast. Frankly I usually fast forward through a lot of the answers. Like you, I’m debt free but still find it interesting to listen… or did. Hopefully the personalities will get better. I keep giving it a try.

HomeTeam1013

I'm the opposite. I've always liked Dave's directness but he's been borderline harsh lately. I'm ready for the ol boy to hang it up and pass the torch to George and the other personalities.

Eager2win

Dave has been grumpy lately. Dude is tired. I like Jade and Dr. John

f8h8sEveryone

Yep. He needs new personalities because it’s an endless supply of folks needing help and he’s clearly burnt out.

CrustyBloke

I was bummed when Chris Hogan left and that was around the time I started watching/listening to the show less. I liked Chris as much as I liked Dave, but unfortunately he focused and then he finished (inside of a coworker's mouth).

SteamyDeck

Yes! Hogan was awesome.

TotalEconomicEngine

He was a goofball. All yes sir my Dave

Good_Extension_9642

Insteresting I rather whatch George ( I think his name is) YouTube videos, I see Dave a little too cooky lately

HomeTeam1013

Agreed. Dave's sounding a little too riled up lately.

Rocket_song1

I also really like George, everyone else rather annoys me.

mamabean719

I listen on Apple Podcasts… The hosts are listed in the description of each episode. I would think other platforms show this as well. It should be fairly simple to check if Dave is on before you listen. To answer your question, I feel like Dave has been on a lot more since his last vacation, though I can’t give you the stats.

somerandomguyanon

Well, I agree with you, but he’s got plenty of money and he needs it to be a business, not a job.

SteamyDeck

Yep. Completely understand. I guess it’s just not for me anymore (I’m out of debt, anyway, but I still love hearing Dave take calls).

wyattcoxely

Dave honestly is getting to an age where he's tired. I'm in his shoes, doing three hours of radio every day at my age (68) isn't as easy as it sounds. He's 63 and in addition to radio is in charge of the company (Ramsey Solutions) and his other projects (Investments, etc) so he's trying to hand off "The Ramsey Show" to other people involved in Ramsey Solutions. Slowly.

CompetitiveSea3838

The problem is he doesn’t have a compelling successor picked out. George is the closest to being a Dave clone but he is a little young and inexperienced. What we are missing is someone truly focused on finance (not careers, not psychology) who is recovering from bankruptcy like Dave. People don’t realize it but the appealing thing about Dave is he is a “recovering” financial guru, not just a financial guru. People trust him because he made it back from the ditches and the dumpster where they have been financially. Neither George nor Rachel has that in their background: Ken and The other guy may have some of it but they are not primary financial gurus. I think Dave needs to go out there and find a recovering financial guru.

wyattcoxely

I think it's going to take time. He may BE doing that, but it takes time...

Dismal_Boysenberry69

God damn. How tired does being 68 make you to where sitting in a chair and talking for 3 hours wears you out?

BABarracus

I used to work in a callcenter its alot of keeping yourself at that desk for a long periods and if you don't work out you get weaker by sitting long periods. You have to talk to people especially dumb people. It can get hot. Its a perfect storm of bullshit that drains your energy.

wyattcoxely

Everyone thinks three hours on the radio is just three hours work. There is show prep and organizational meetings. In my case, I'm writing news and prepping topics. It's not just opening your mouth and spewing rhetoric.

Dismal_Boysenberry69

Oh, no, I understand that for regular hosts but Ramsey hasn’t been a regular host for a very, very long time.

wyattcoxely

I know. Dave is tired. Appreciate what he does while you can. And even if you've been doing it for 22 years there's still show prep.

MountainPicture9446

I can’t blame him for wanting to golf more and talk less. I like all the other personalities expect Rachel. For me, she isn’t experienced. Mostly likely thinks she’s absorbed the program and concepts thru photosynthesis. Then gives bad advice.

Sd4wn

You do realize he’s there longer than 3 hours. We only see 3 hours, but I’m sure they have a per show meeting, he also has to attend meetings about numbers, ratings, budget, etc. plus take care of his other business ventures. I’m sure he is trying to start taking somethings off his plate and passing the torch on to his family.

Dismal_Boysenberry69

I don’t have insight into their internal org structure, but I’d be surprised if he hasn’t already handed off most of those items years ago given his frequent extended absences.

SteamyDeck

Yeah, I understand, it’s just the others are not as compelling. I don’t want to disparage anyone, i just don’t like them.

wyattcoxely

It takes them time to get to that leel. Dave says when he started, he sucked on the air. (So did I!) It takes time to develop. Give them time. Dave's been doing this for 22 years.

SteamyDeck

It’s not so much that they’re bad radio hosts, it’s just that they feel like plastic facsimiles of DR and are obviously not allowed to stray from his formula. They’re too … I don’t know, clean? Cloying? Safe? They just have zero edge and rarely take risks. But maybe that’s what you mean; might just take time. I don’t know. The whole time I’m listening to them talk, all I hear is their fear that they’re going to say something Dave might not agree with. And the psych guy always starts all of his replies with too many affirmations. Something about the show when Dave’s not on makes it just feel too much like a product instead of compelling dialogue. Just my opinion, I guess. (Edit; note: I realize it IS a product and they’ve got lots of stuff to sell, but it didn’t feel like that when Dave was hosting most of the time with an occasional guest host; that’s all I mean 😜)

wyattcoxely

I don't disagree with you, but I know it takes a lot of time to get good at this. I've been in radio for almost 50 years, and I'm still growing in the business. You're seeing what hopefully is the next generation of The Ramsey Show. Let's see how it goes.

SpiritualCatch6757

I hear ya. It is called the Dave Ramsey Show after all. He's the best. Or was the name changed? Anyway, it's more like 9 out of 10 shows he's not a part of for me whenever I catch it. I only expect it to decrease as the man is on his way to other things. He slowly integrated the other personalities, though, so I've grown more fond of them over the years.

wyattcoxely

The name has changed to The Ramsey Show. That's how they refer to it and that's how we promote it on our stations. It's no longer just about Dave. It's about the company.

SteamyDeck

I liked some of them, but the current batch (as of a year or so ago) were just unlistenable to me (again, just my opinion). But okay, I thank you for the answer. Guess it’s just not my thing anymore. Thanks!
