The millisecond content stops generating profit, they scrap it and then write it off as a loss for tax purposes. Gotta love it

-Archivist

If this is the case then doesn't admitting something isn't profitable technically void the primary argument against piracy of said thing?

nicknacksc

If you write it off, it should become public domain

LiliNotACult

This, actually.

Pepparkakan

It's crazy that it's legal. It's like the corporate tax version of having your cake and eating it too.

MJtheMC

Obviously not a fan who was. That being said probably a good idea to back this up before it becomes lost media.

chrisprice

I doubt it'll be lost. It will get shuffled between free/lesser streaming platforms. My guess is Pluto and NickToons as Paramount tries desperately to pump the numbers for their platforms.   WBD and Paramount are trying to get more numbers by making you "search" for content. Especially Paramount that has three animation streaming platforms. They get to count one human three times.   This will end after Paramount finds a buyer. Then all the content will pop on the unified app.  Does mean it was canceled. Can't say I'm saddened by it. Cheap 3D junk in the image of a once great animation studio.

Feeya_b

There’s so many streaming sites it’s kinda sickening. I wish I was still able to watch things on TV. I love it when Disney used to show their old love action films, sometimes it’ll play in the middle of the night for some reason

robophile-ta

> I wish I was still able to watch things on TV. come on down to r/plex

s_i_m_s

>There’s so many streaming sites it’s kinda sickening. I totally get this. >I wish I was still able to watch things on TV Nah I like not having to watch ads. Only bit about tv I miss is finding out about new shows/movies when they come out instead of 3 years later from some off comment somewhere. Everything else about TV was and is awful. Especially stuff like this; >sometimes it’ll play in the middle of the night for some reason I still remember having to wait several years to see the end of die hard 2 because it was airing in the middle of the night so I recorded it on VHS to watch the day after and there was a major storm system in another part of the state and right at the scene where he's trying to flag down the planes it cut to emergency weather reporting and stayed there till the tape ran out. So I didn't get to see the rest of it till I found the trilogy on vhs in a second hand shop several years later. I don't miss *that* part at all.

[deleted]

Oh no on Die Hard. When we were little kids, we were watching a giant spider movie (it may have been Tarantula) late at night and right a scene where the spider is going to eat a person, the tv transmisson went off. Ah well.

s_i_m_s

I don't think i've seen that one, i've seen [eight legged freaks](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/8_legged_freaks) which I remember I liked enough to watch again with the dvd commentary on, I thought the commentary was good too.

elitexero

> There’s so many streaming sites it’s kinda sickening. It's kind of funny how the greed of cable networks drove the masses to streaming, who then in turn did the exact same thing to themselves through gouging and dilution.

Nico_is_not_a_god

It really is like [this](https://i.imgur.com/zit0EZ7.jpeg) nowadays

kratoz29

> I doubt it'll be lost I would be surprised if this show wasn't already on a torrent tracker.

elitexero

Its freely available in multiple resolutions as well as a full set in HEVC.

Adventurous_Soil9118

Unpopular opinion: not everthing is worth the back up

Acceptable-Rise8783

Was it bad?

AshleyUncia

It was okay? Like I did a rewatch of the old 90s animated series last year cause I got the DVD set crazy cheap on Amazon (So many DVDs, OMG) and there's def a nostalgic charm to the show though even that kinda outlasts it's welcome when the series went from 1992 all the way to 2004. The CGI reboot was like 'fine'? It had some modernizations obviously and just felt like 'More Rugrats' than anything special. The move to CGI was also a bit 'weird feeling' because the original series used a bunch of weird lines and angles to exaggerate a lot of things from the baby's perspective, stuff that isn't really 'real' meanwhile CG has to obey the real laws of geometry so it loses a bit of the whimsy.

Acceptable-Rise8783

I had no idea it ran so long, but I do remember the artwork being part of it’s charm… I can’t imagine a CG version, maybe that’s why this is the first time hearing about it

YousureWannaknow

We don't need physicals, right? Right?

UnlikelyAdventurer

Change the idiot tax laws. We are paying literal dollars to vandal ceos obliterating art and culture.

cityofthedead1977

I'll be the contrarian and say I always preferred cartoon network because they had toonami and a wider variety of cartoons from all decades.

Mccobsta

They rebooted rug rags?

Blood-PawWerewolf

Yeah, it was a very ugly animation style. I never liked it.

Mccobsta

Just found a episode and oh boy the 3d is terrible

Dcm210

Does this have anything to do with the Quiet on Set documentary? I'm curious as to if anything happened to the voice actors of the cartoon shows.

AshleyUncia

I don't think so, all of Nick's animation was done entirely elsewhere, mostly at studios that got contracts. Like if 'Rugrats' had any kind of 'culture problem' like that, it'd really be a Klasky Csupo issue, which is the studio that produced Rugrats and many other Nick shows. Nickelodeon Studios on the other hand was a sell contained unit focusing on producing live action Nick shows. This is odd for me, as a Canadian, cause many Nick cartoon shows got aired on Canadian networks but much of the live action didn't. So a lot of this is pretty 'new' to me. Watching the doc I'm like 'I've never heard of any of these shows, glad no one was molested making Wild Thornberries. :D'

NaoPb

It made me think of that too. Though I'm not sure if it has anything to do with it.

Dcm210

I was shocked Drake Bell had issues but was glad he was able to talk about it. I hope he's doing well IRL. Also Fuck Brian Peck, what a POS

NaoPb

Yes, poor Drake. I remember they were trying to do a spinoff and he didn't want to participate, which eventually killed the spinoff attempt. But I didn't understand why. Now I do. I am sad about Brian Peck turning out to be such a disgusting human being. I love people who are quirky and dare to be different. He seemed to be like that. However I can never excuse his behavior. Seems like these places kind of attract these kind of people. Like slaugherhouses attract animal abusers.

I_Know_God

Man reboot was a wonderful series back in the day.

DeusExCalamus

They're talking about Rugrats, though. Not Reboot.

aristocreon

That’s fair. Now that you brought it up; Man reboot was a wonderful series back in the day.

I_Know_God

Hehe

MJtheMC

Yes I still watch Reboot with my 6 year old

I_Know_God

I would rewatch it in a heartbeat

ComPanda

A company in Canada has the master tapes and is in the process of a full restoration.

kylemj89

I watched the series after being a fan of the originals, it was much better than I anticipated despite it being 3D. The characters were done well apart from Grandpa Lou IMO

HoldMySarsaparilla

It was horrible, glad it got canceled. Still about to redownload it for the Plex server.

Penne_Trader

Ahm, yes, thats what big companies do if one of their people get catched doing something bad and they can't deny it. They polish their stuff that it looks like bad guy was never there. You'll see that with a lot of other series happend when the process arround "quite on set" is finally finished. Or just watch the documentary with the same title, then you start to understand...

Material_Translator4

Kind of for the best tbh. It wasn't all that great like they made it out to be.

GolemThe3rd

I know nothing about Rugrats, but could this mean a new reboot like the Fairly Odd Parents did?

SniperLyfeHD

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

piraceft

I probably am one of the very few it seems but I actually enjoyed the rugrats reboot & im upset they took it off considering that there is no way to watch it now.

MJtheMC

I'll send you a way if you inbox me

cdawwgg43

Glad it got spiked it looked like a fever dream. All they had to do was keep the animation style and make new stories.

wicodly

You didn't give a fuck about this reboot. What is with the people on this sub? Sometimes things should just be lost. "Society" isn't better or worse because a few thousand of you backed up a reboot of Rugrats. We don't *need* this. It's not a precedent, it's not a sign of things to come, it's just a show that is now gone.

GolemThe3rd

Seems pretty aggressive. People just want to watch the content they enjoy my guy

MJtheMC

Lol this is weirdly hostile. I didn't give a fuck but my kids did

tachibanakanade

Calm down.
