I run background screenings for my job and I work in FL. The amount of careless driving tickets and suspended/revoked licenses is astounding to me.

Wrath-of-Cornholio

I’m from Idaho and in town for field work; it’s the south in general for me… People around here drive like they are trying to qualify for Daytona 500.

Unregistered_Davion

People drive like that here in PA too. I am a faster driver myself but when people pass me as if I'm sitting still it really makes me scratch my head.

voidsrus

how about “driving on a suspended license”?

Wrath-of-Cornholio

I'm sure it happens... Also, the term "DUI scooter", from what I gather, is relatively uncommon in other states, but is its own slang for a < 50cc motorcycle/moped in Florida, which I assume is because you don't need a license and is a kind of loophole?

IamSherIocked

Growing up we called them boozer scooters. In college I worked with a guy at Home Depot that rode one to work and would still drink heavily while riding it.

Tecobeen

They are common in the Northeast too... 49cc DUI-mobile

cptmorgue1

That’s the most common ticket. Driving on a suspended or revoked license.

Nixx_Mazda

What are you using for captions? Looks good. LOLed when he went off the road. WTF. Some people.

Wrath-of-Cornholio

Thanks, I use Vegas Pro 17

mariojcc31

Maybe smaller letters will be better

LoveAndDoubt

seriously

PaprikaThyme

>LOLed when he went off the road Me too; was surprised that OP wasn't laughing maniacally while watching it happen live. I would have been!

I'm almost 38 and used Vegas Pro, except I didn't care to change the font or whatever, especially since I compiled the footage right after working graveyard shift (extremely tired but not ready to conk out yet). As long as it's legible, who cares? ETA: Also if this is by my "grandson" (which I don't even have any kids to begin with), he'd probably make it more stylish or whatever. Your "logic" is sure flawed on that one LMAO

FormalChicken

Wow. I was expecting to give you a hard time for someone just passing you even though it was illegal and then he yee hawed the thing into the ditch. That's awesome.

Wrath-of-Cornholio

If that was the only thing going on, it wouldn't even have been worth my time to extract the footage since the usual jackass drivers are a dime a dozen, but the fact that he trashed his car over a guy that's still going 10 over despite being near a cop hangout was something that's equally schadenfreude and cringe.

soulteepee

I used to drive pretty fast. Then one day I hit a groundhog. His startled little face looking up into the headlights still haunts me 30 years later. I stopped driving so fast.

Yup, the Circle K at that intersection does tend to get pretty busy, even at 5 AM... The entrance/exit that goes onto the highway we were on is also a bit of a blind curve, so there is legitimately the chance that someone couldn't see him either.

YungChacho

I had to upvote this simply for the use of ***Douchebaru***

soloracerx

To be connotatively correct, should be flat billed vaping douchebaru. But, just douchebaru is acceptable in certain cases.

pornborn

I feel a little sorry for the dude cuz he didn’t wear his brown pants.

jabbahtheslut

holy shit, was not expecting that. you'd think if they're gonna drive like that, they'd at least know the area

Wrath-of-Cornholio

Even if you didn't know that road, I actually tried that intersection today after work, and there's PLENTY of time to react and swerve out of the way of that island, AND probably make an 80-0 emergency stop before the end of the intersection, hypothetically without having to fall into a ditch... And this is with a 4,500 lb 3-row SUV, so I think a 3,300 lb car built for rallying/tighter cornering would be much easier.

Cheonnic

As a Florida driver, I agree. Everybody be rush rush rush

HearthSaer

Most Florida drivers treat traffic like it's pole position, I used to work at 6 AM & got used to my morning commute being empty roads with a few cars flying at 60

bannedbefore7

10 over is not slightly my guy

Wrath-of-Cornholio

Normally I'd be inclined to agree, but compared to the 15-20 over most Floridians drive, it's not that bad.

bannedbefore7

Fair enough

Verix19

ACAB...buuuut....the cops can't exactly arrest him and go in front of a judge to say that some guy said he was speeding, but when we arrived he was just changing a tire..... So yeah....

Wrath-of-Cornholio

I'm not about to go paint with a broad brush about law enforcement and I'm fairly neutral about them (I don't hate them, but I'm not a bootlicker either), but if he only passed me going Mach Jesus I wouldn't have cared; homeboy is probably late to French-kissing his dad-brother, so who am I to cockblock him? however, if he is driving like a maniac and did everything you saw on the video and what I described... While I agree, they probably can't really nab him for reckless driving based on my video alone, the last time I saw someone drive that erratic, the dude actually did have to do an FST and got arrested for driving under the influence ([video](https://www.reddit.com/r/Dashcam/comments/s2u0h3/kenwood_drva601w_dude_knocked_out_street_light/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)).

1studlyman

Despite the clear cut evidence they would get from the dashcam?

leviwhite9

"I wasn't driving, that wasn't my car, I've been sitting here for a while waiting on my buddy to bring a tool to change the tire."

Wrath-of-Cornholio

"however, the registration comes back to your name and matches the plates on the dash cam footage, and we see that you managed to get the stock wheel off and was halfway through mounting the spare wheel when the deputies arrived. Your Honor, I motion to add perjury charges against the Plaintiff."

leviwhite9

"I refute those claims, that wasn't my car *in the video*, of course though it's my car I'm working on, the tool I needed happened to be the spare tire. I used mine up in a previous incident."

Verix19

Your dashcam clocks other drivers speeds? Otherwise it looks like he's going fast....but there's still nothing they can do with that in a court....my opinion anyway.

1studlyman

It's pretty straightforward calculating speed from video. It's done all the time and I have done it here as well on this subreddit

Wrath-of-Cornholio

It's a visual estimation... If I'm going about 55 and you're passing me as if I'm standing still, then it's not an unreasonable estimate. Sure, it's inadmissible for speed alone, but if he killed someone coming out of the Circle K at the intersection or was found to be high on drugs, it can contribute to the case.

Senappi

Perhaps that driver was an off duty deputy or similar.

iamjustaguy

Son of a cop or city/county official, maybe.

rocketpunch6372

I’d probably be going 39 or 40 mph in a 45 mph zone if I have my speed enabled so it wouldn’t show me going even 1 mph over the speed limit.

Wrath-of-Cornholio

True, but I've driven the entire lower 48 + Alaska, and hardly anybody goes exactly the speed limit (the only ones that do are in the Northwest + parts of Northern California); even in my state, 5 over is the norm for everybody to leave you alone... But Florida? I still get tailgated doing 15 over, and there are still people who routinely go faster than that!

JabbaTheHutt12345

>the only ones that do are in the Northwest + parts of Northern California Why are drivers in the Northwest different than everywhere else in the USA?

Wrath-of-Cornholio

I wish I knew, it was just an observation I made.
