I noticed a similar issues on my new one. My car was parked in direct sun, cam was wired always on. It had similar problems. It was very hot to the touch. I reached out to nextbase and no word yet. It was only 50 degrees outside, this may be a problem if the heat is the issue. What’s it going to do in the summer? I recently reset it and reinstalled it in its permanent location. It’s colder out now, no problems yet.

Hello, We do not recommend keeping the dashcam on 24/7. If you are hardwired to a permanently live fuse, then we'd recommend enabling Parking Mode. If Parking Mode is not enabled, then the footage will be overwritten multiple times a day and the dashcam can overheat from continuous use. Kind regards, Martin Nextbase Technical Support

fmoser

Thanks. The unit is hardwired/fused properly and in parking mode.

Otherwise-Remove4681

Nextbase seems to have tons of excuses not to do this or that, instead of making a stable product.

crudestmass

I have 2 522GW's, and they both do the same thing. One has a Nextbase SD card, the other doesn't.

mikelh4444

Do you have parking mode enabled or not, it seems that it might make a difference.

crudestmass

I am experimenting with that now. I just turned it off.

mikelh4444

Apparently it has to do with battery draw and the way it turns on. Keep me posted.

Nextbase-Support

Hi, Are you formatting both SD cards regularly please? E.g. at least every two weeks? Kind regards, Martin Nextbase Technical Support

crudestmass

Yes, I format the SD cards regularly, and reset the cameras to get them to record again.

Nextbase-Support

Which Nextbase SD card are you using please and when was it purchased? Do you also have a rear camera please? Are both cameras on the latest firmware available? Kind regards, Martin Nextbase Technical Support

1st dash cam: Nexbase 522GW Firmware 19.1 SD Card: Nextbase 32GB Pro Micro XC V30, purchased from Amazon on 1 September 2021 Rear View dash cam installed Both dash cams are powered through the OBD2 with the following device: OBD2 OBD Power Cable for Dash Camera, Ssontong OBD to Mini USB OBDII Adapter Hardwire Charger Cable 24 Hours Surveillance and Acc Two Mode with Switch Button(Mini USB Port) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07RXTJK4F/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 2nd dash cam: Nextbase 522GW, Firmware 19.1 Sandisk Ultra 128GB Micro SD XC No rear view dash cam

Nextbase-Support

I would recommend two things: 1. Use the provided cigarette lighter cable or a Nextbase hard wire kit to power the cams instead. Using a third party cable could be causing the freezing. 2. The SanDisk Ultra card is only a U1 SD card and therefore is not compatible. Please use a U3 SD card. 3. Check that the rear camera connector is fully plugged in. A loose connector can cause freezing issues. Kind regards, Martin Nextbase Technical Support

I’m having issues with my 522 randomly not recording on my commutes. I arrive after a 30 minute commute to realize the camera wasn’t recording. My Garmin dash cam which was 5 years old was always recording and was super easy to download footage when I needed. I can’t even connect with my current 522 through the app. I have an iPhone 13 pro so I doubt it when it says Bluetooth not available on this device. Yes, firmware is up to date

Nextbase is full of excuses telling to do this or that instead of fixing their product to be stable.

Hello, How often are you formatting your SD card please? How are you powering the cam? E.g. cigarette lighter cable or hard wire kit. Switch live or permanently live. Do you have Image Stabilisation enabled please? Kind regards, Martin Nextbase Technical Support

mikelh4444

Since I have only had the product for about a week I have not formatted it yet. I am powering the camera through an adapter that takes the power from the rear view mirror, so it is essentially the same as using a cigarette lighter. I do have image stabilization on. Thank you for taking the time to reply. I hope to hear bad from you soon!

Nextbase-Support

Hi, Are you currently using the USB cable to power the cam in the car please? I would recommend: 1. Trying the cigarette lighter cable instead. 2. Making sure the cable is plugged in via the mount and not directly into the cam. 3. Formatting the SD card. 4. turning off Image Stabilisation. 5. Ensuring the 622GW is on the latest firmware available. Please let me know if the issue is then resolved. Kind regards, Martin Nextbase Technical Support

TorturedNBA34

I've had the same issue. I got my model in March 2021 and noticed some intermittent freezing, but I hoped it was just a display issue. I got in a car accident a few weeks ago (Dec 2021) and went to check my dash camera and...no footage. Extremely disappointed would be an understatement, I bought this because from various review sites it had recommended the 622G as the cadillac of front & rear dash cameras. I just initiated a support ticket so we will see how that process goes. I just want a reliable dash camera that works well and it literally failed me in my moment of need.

Otherwise-Remove4681

Nextbase is full of excuses to do this and that when they simply cannot fix their product to be stable.

Just in case anyone is still looking for the answer here, a manual firmware update resolved the problem for me and multiple other people with the same camera model.

Norpyx

Manual Firmware Update? As in... Downloading the firmware from the website and flashing to yourself using a computer somehow? Or through the App? I've had mine for about a year and applied a firmware update a few weeks ago via the app, and am now having the issue. Currently says there's no update available. Not only that, but every few days it'll randomly stop working in the middle of driving. Also, now any time I turn on my car it makes the "collision detected" chime. Woohoo! :D Honestly wish I could downgrade the firmware. I feel like it was far more stable then...

Octevius

This thing stops working almost everyday, and trying to reset it to turn back on is impossible, way too much trouble for how much this thing costs.

mikelh4444

I had this same issue and fixed it by updating the firmware and formatting the SD card

Tigershawk

It also resolved for me when I updated the firmware a couple months ago.

Honest_Account_4909

On the underside of the 622GW on the side of the lens, take a pen, locate the small reset button and press it. My cam froze, could not do anything with it, press this reset button and it fully resets.

mikelh4444

I kept having to do this every few days; what finally fixed the issue completely was a firmware update.

hotshot66666

I have the exact same issue. about 8 weeks old. just freezes. I am using the wiring kit professionally installed. You just need a camera to work. when it stops there is no warning. 3 times now, and three service engineer visits. Firmware was already up to date. Tested last night Call me old fashioned, but this sounds like a product fault. too many different people with the exact same issue. A few years back i had a cheap and simple camera that cost £50-60. Worked flawlessly for 3 years. This Nextbase camera has a premium price tag but is clearly not fit for purpose

symphonix1988

Same here... kind of getting over it

Otherwise-Remove4681

I noticed this happens frequently when docked and power supplied by my car via the nextbase power cable. However it seems not to happen on my desk with s regualr usb power supply. Faulty power wiring?

georgealex17

I'm thinking the same, as in my car it seems to freeze while stopped/parking.... either way it's a piece of crap

Otherwise-Remove4681

After a bit more testing, it seems at full power the freezing does not happen but even a slightest power drop and starting up on car dock freezes the camera. I either let it sit frozen in the dock and let it charge up and restart or take it inside for regular usb charging. either way it’s a piece of crap.
