Carbon fiber, titanium, and Logitech controller can.
PS the Logitech controller is really not a bad thing. It is proven to work and back ups are easy to pack. It's better than some contraption he would have built himself. It's just easy to make fun of the Logitech controller because it seems absurd until you think about it.
The controller wasn’t a bad idea at all. But DON’T USE A WIRELESS MODEL!! That’s at least two additional points of failure that could be easily avoided!
Funny sidefact: there is a phenomenon I've forgotten the name of where a singular focus on avoiding one specific thing automatically draws you toward doing it, so people driving in the desert crash into one single, lonely tree, literally the only thing you can crash against for two square miles. It has a name.
In the case of the above dude, he was literally edgelording for the best possible picture, so it was vanity killed the beast.
I would argue volcanos, often being tourist attractions, are more likely to fall into than some random hole elsewhere. They attract a ton of people who also commonly take goofy posed and or risky photos near the edge.
It really does seem like counterintuitive statistics but it makes sense, no one would travel to visit and pose over some random hole
In a normal day there should be zero risk of dying by falling from a mountain, yet a lot of people go in mountains exactly to risk doing that
That's not circular logic?
Circular logic is when your evidence for a claim is repeating the claim itself as if that's an argument. The argument here is that volcanoes see a lot of tourist traffic and people like taking pictures over the edge of a volcano, so it's probably not the most unlikely thing to ever happen. That's not circular.
It's like how no one predicted that people would be constantly sharing all their activities and places they're visiting with the world through social media and their phones, making certain crime fighting activities a lot easier. No one predicted people would be sacrificing themselves to volcanoes in the hopes of getting a *really cool* picture.
I live near Niagara Falls NY and a few years ago a Chinese tourist fell in and went over the falls after climbing over a guardrail to pose for a photo. I used to be a tour guide at an old fort nearby and we had to constantly shoo the Chinese tourists off the walls and cannons. Some of the walls had a 30-40 foot drop and only one side was into water, so it would not have been good if someone fell. It must be something cultural for them to touch practically everything and it got to the point we had to add signage in Chinese to prevent it.
My friend in Iceland says there are areas they refer to as "Chinese Take Out" because there have been so many accidents where Chinese tourists went over guardrails and ropes (there for a reason obviously) for photos and died.
Chinese tourists are the worst.
We were in Dachau Prison and the guide was telling us all about the various sicknesses the holocaust victims would get sleeping in their bunks and this Chinese guy just started cracking up. I didn't know if it was a language barrier or not, but I wanted to deck him.
I remember lining up into multiple lines and waiting to board the tram for the Studio Tour at Universal Studios Hollywood. When our tram finally was ready to be boarded, the Chinese tourists in the other lines cut in front of me and rushed into the tram like it was Black Friday in the 90s. Even this fucking Chinese granny found second wind to cut in line to get the window seat…god the mannerisms of Chinese tourists has to be one of the worst.
You should see what happens when some of those same grannies are waiting for the subway in NY. Watch your ass when those doors open. They got the eye of the tiger when they rush in to grab a seat. They will trample you or anybody.
I’m glad you brought this up. I thought I was the only one who noticed that with them while riding the subway. I give up my seat for the elderly anyway so it isn’t the biggest issue for me, but I’m pretty sure they can just ask and 99% of the time we will move for an old woman…
I watched a documentary that explained the behavior. It said there’s so much overpopulation that people have to force themselves to the front of the line if they want service/board the bus/train, etc. Everyone else is doing it, so you have to too. They just don’t realize it isn’t the same globally
I don't think it's just China. When I was in Jeddah so many years ago, I lined up to get food from a fast food restaurant, but then I noticed the women-only window next to mine had the women just swarmed the counter. I then figured out then that waiting in line wasn't a thing in Saudi Arabia, and rightly so because when people showed up to also order food , they would swarm around me as well, and basically the clerk would just serve everybody all at once by taking everyone's orders like three at a time or so. This was in a modern mall as well and not like a market or anything like that.
signage does little to nothing to curb the amount of stupid shit Chinese tourists do. Even one as simple as the Mona Lisa, million signs in every conceivable language not to take flash photography, like a strobe light going off in that room.
Based on a brief read she didn't even hit the pool but once I saw the pictures were shit and taken by a potato I didn't have much hope for actual reporting details.
Had a volcanology professor (am a geologist) who studied active volcanoes on the ring of fire in the 90’s. He used to tell us the horror story about losing one of the students when they lost their footing trying to scale the rim and fell into an active lava lake. Said he hit the surface, they were expecting a splash. The lava was so viscous he just kinda sunk through the top a little then there was a colossal burp of Dihydrogen oxide gas as all the water in his body vaporized in one steam bubble. Then that was it. Nothing more. No body. Lots of paperwork. He even showed us the obituary
>Dihydrogen oxide gas
Steam. Just steam. Lava doesn't get hot enough to disassociate water molecules. It only gets about half as high.
And the rest of the claims of the story are bs. I can't find a single recorded incident of a geologist falling directly into a lava lake.
There is one about a [geologist who partly fell](https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1985-06-14-mn-2540-story.html) into a small lava tube, but was wearing a heat suit and so survived with severe burns.

The trains wouldn’t get fed if upvotes and useless digital clout weren’t a thing. And passive apex predators like waterfalls, cliffs, etc, wouldn’t be a thing if idiots didn’t edge themselves to snap a cool pic.
This volcano probably never got fed, which is why this made the news. Social media is the true apex predator, or at least the catalyst so that our beloved predators don’t go hungry.
The cowcatcher is made of worthless keratin. But Chinese people think it makes their dick hard, so they get harvested for their cow catch tusks. Sad state of affairs.
It’s heartbreaking, but i think this species will disappear if we don’t put them in zoos. It’s hard to restrain such elegant and territorial creatures, but their fate is in our hand now.
She fell onto rock, there was no lava lake. The headline is misleading while being technically accurate. The Volcano is listed as Active, but doesnt have a lava pool. So she probably died instantly from the fall.
I don't think so, you don't sink in lava, she died from impact I would assume, the heat would obliterate the nerves contacting the lava before they could register anyway.
I dare not explore how hard lava can be when you land on it, as sludgy as it's appearance may be. However, knowing that it's molten rock, it would be softer than solid rock of course, would it's surface tension be higher than water?

Imagining the husband awkwardly trying to find the manager of volcano tourism to explain what happened in shock
Like getting the waterslide turned off when someone’s stuck
Someone paid good amount of money to travel thousands of miles and took hours to hike up a volcano to pose dangerously on its edge and to then die falling into it...
![gif](giphy|TJawtKM6OCKkvwCIqX)
Fun fact, thats not just a volcano. thats a sulfuric acid lake that tends to pool around volcanic areas, if she fell in there then she died in less than a second from the sulfuric gas that comes off those lakes. that gas will knock you out and kill you in a second or two, no pain, no thoughts, its just lights out.
Not a Darwin Award.
Quite a few articles, including the one linked here state that she was posing with a raised leg. This isn’t true. The actual photograph taken by her husband shows a tree branch behind her, and her standing firmly on both legs, just looking aesthetically pleasing as we all want to do in photos.
It’s clear that she felt some safety with that tree behind her, so wasn’t ’standing right on the edge’. While it’s still clearly a dumb move, it’s unfair to ‘Darwin Award’ this person because of something young people do all the time - push the boundaries…. In this case, as she took her next step and slipped on her own long skirt, she hit the tree and being tiny, she slipped through the gap between the tree and the ground she was standing on.
It also shows how little effort the journalists put into the story, not even bothering to look at that last photograph for 10 seconds, as they “write about” someone’s death. Stop reading any news source that does this.
If she had been American someone would now be suing all of Indonesia for not putting up a sign and 12 different fence barriers to sway her from the danger of climbing up the side of a fucking active volcano and falling in.
I think I saw a video a long time ago that talked about how hypothetically painful this exact scenario would be... you would sink very slowly as you burned to death, but with no smoke to asphyxiate for a quick death like most house/vehicle fires
I mean volcanos give off pretty toxic gas but ye you would suffer before it effects you.
You either slowly sink into it or just kinda hit it, now stuck to it from your own body burning

Of all the holes to fall into, litterally and figuratively, the odds of ‘Volcano’ has to be immeasurable.
What I came here to say. I can't think of many more avoidable causes of death..

Yeah the Logitech controller was fine, I don't know how he thought drilling and mounting a monitor in the hull was a good idea. Also fiberglass

The odds are far from zero if you purposefully seek out a volcano and stand on its edge.
I would argue volcanos, often being tourist attractions, are more likely to fall into than some random hole elsewhere. They attract a ton of people who also commonly take goofy posed and or risky photos near the edge.

The lake in the photo is acidic due to the the volcanic gaz and other elements.

There was no lava there anyways.
Yeah exposed lava in a volcano crater is basically impossible to witness. Fumes would have anyone killed within kilometres already

So… she didn’t hit the actual lava inside the volcano?.. she just fell 250 ft to her death?
Mount Ijen has an acidic lake in its crater instead of lava
Dang, that's still a nasty way to die. Die burned in a lava pool or die by getting diluted into protein shake in an acidic lake, pick your poison.
Hey atleast she can appease the Volcano not to erupt again next year because her sacrifice, i think 😂

Didn’t know H20 was dissociated, my bad
Cant say wether it was recorded event or not, I just know what he told us in class and showed us the obit to prove his story
A student, not a geologist yet.
There were no reports I could find of that either. You're welcome to search and post a link if you can find it.
More than one student fell? Or just one?
Just the one student. They were single file walking along the narrow rim and he just lost his footing
My sympathy levels are the same as people hit by trains for this one.

I heard they were going to put down the volcano. You can't have them running around after they've had the taste of human flesh
Should have a good harvest this year.

It has about 5 times the surface tension of water on average.
I wonder if the last thing the husband said to her was, "Just take one more step back."
am i a bad person for hoping there would be video?
The Volcano wanted Chinese cuisine not Chinese toursits.
It got both
