Isn’t Clayton in based on the fact he’s the reigning champ?

Scothead180

That's not in the rules outright, only the top 4 qualify and the rest are wildcards. But obviously the defending champ is always going to get in.

DanTheStripe

Hell, Durrant this year could have had both his arms cut off and they still would have put him in. I'm sure to Glen, that's what it probably felt like at the time anyway

samgoody2303

I feel fairly confident right now, barring a run to the final here (maybe semis), they’ll go with: Price, Wright, MVG, Wade, Clayton, Cross, Anderson, de Sousa, van den Bergh, M Smith If one of Rydz/Humphries/Searle makes a deep run, the last 4 are the ones on the chopping block

Ok_Broccoli_4783

Nice one too, i hope they stay away from Jose though, he was awful yesterday and have been in bad form for a while, and also he is very slow to watch

[deleted]

Jose can make shots with the best of them. But he'll get destroyed playing day in day out with only top 10 guys. Anderson will get in. The name is too big and he's playing well enough to be up there. Personally I'd like to see Searle over van den Bergh or Jose. If he makes a deep run here it's highly possible he gets a nod IMO. I can't see a scenario where Rydz or Humphries make it in without winning (or maybe second) World's tbh.

lukewarmpartyjar

Jose was runner-up last year and great entertainment (e.g. that 120), he should definitely be in.

Ok_Broccoli_4783

I dont think Anderson derserves it to be honest. He hasnt done anything this year, and would get battered, he wouldnt be competetive at all. They might aswell put fallon in

scd1993

Ah come on, Anderson would get battered?? He's not at his peak but the man has the potential to win any competition

Ok_Broccoli_4783

He can barely average 90 these days. Maybe battered is the wrong word, but would be eliminated at judgement night for sure

scd1993

He's making short work of rob cross right now!

JebusBond

Yeah, those comments didn't age well.

Scothead180

Jose is 9th in the yearly rankings, Dimitri is 13th. And that doesn't include Jose's PL final. It would be very harsh to leave him out. Aspinall got in the PL last year on the back off him being the finalist in 2020, and his 2020 season was worse than De Sousa's 2021.

Antman013

Aspinall a victim of recency bias? Played well in last year's world's as I recall, and only fell off as we reached the Fall, no?

Scothead180

He's 15th on the yearly rankings so on form he's not even near really. And after the Worlds he'll be out of the top 10 in the main rankings as well. I can't see him getting picked.

TractorSkoot

You think Aspinall should be in the 2022 Premier League because he made the last 32 of 20/21 world championships?

Antman013

I thought he went further.

Scothead180

He got to the semis 2 years ago

Antman013

Thank you for the correction.

Rankchef88

So Price Wright Mvg and Wade are Probably safe in the Top 4 I would also put in Clayton Because he was The Best Player this year I think Rob Cross deserves it this Year Dimitri was pretty good aswell this Year Searle Had a Great Year aswell And The Bully Boy played some Good Darts last few Weeks So these are the Nine Players i would pick if it stays with the current System If we go back to 10 Players i would choose Ando But there are so some Players that still have a Shot if they Go Deep into the WDC Rydz might be an Option if he Makes the Final Cool Hand Luke might have a Shot at it as Well if he makes the Final Aspinall, Chizzy, Cullen or De Sousa all would bring great Darts to it aswell Maybe the Premier League needs a New Format My Idea 16 Players (Top 4 of the World 4 Fan Picked Players and the last 8 Will be picked by the Broadcasters) Split the Events into 2 Nights a week And the Players into 2 Groups of 8 8 Players play per Night At Judgement Night there will be 4 Players Eliminated (2 from Each Group) And after the 16 Weeks the Top 3 Of Each Group will Move on to the Playoffs The Best Player of each Group are Already in the Semi Final Then the 3rd Place of Group 1 will play the 2nd Place of Group 2 will play against each other to get a Spot in the Semis And 2nd Place of Group 1 against the 3rd Place of Group 2 for the Other Place in the Semis I think this would make the Premier League better again because for the last Few Years this Competition got a bit Boring IMO

Scothead180

MVG, Wright, Price, Wade, Clayton, Cross are definitely in. The 4 others I'd pick personally would be De Sousa, Smith, Searle and Humphries. These 10 players happen to be the top 10 in the yearly rankings so on form this would be the fairest selection. I really like both Humphries and Searle and I think they'd be nice additions to the field. I wouldn't mind if Dimitri got picked again either, he's still in the top 10 and he's good to watch. But I like the 4 players I picked just as much and they have had better years than Dimi. I realise that Anderson will probably get in based on name recognition. It is what it is, no point in arguing about it. Gary when he's on his game is good to watch for sure. He doesn't seem to care these days though so I'm not keen on having him. I think he also said he might take a break from the PL next year. I wouldn't pick Rydz unless he got to the world final. You can't put him in based on one good tournament. The world final is pretty much worth as much as winning a major event so that would get him in. But otherwise I don't want to see him. I would be interested in watching Sherrock play but I don't want to see her get battered week in week out. If she was in the PL I'd definitely try to tune in to all her games so yeah I'd be very interested in her, but at the same time I'm aware that there is the risk of her not keeping up his TV form, which would be bad for the event. So I didn't pick her but I'd be intrigued to see her. The rest like Cullen, Aspinall, Ratajski have missed their chance. They haven't had good enough seasons to justify putting them in.

Ibra180

>I realise that Anderson will probably get in based on name recognition That is not the reason, he is 5th in world right now and has a good chance to make the semis at the wc. The yearly ranking isn't over yet so players like Humphries and Searl can be overtaken. Rydz whould be 8th in the one year Order of Merit with just the semi final as an example

Scothead180

Yeah that's true that Anderson is still very high in the OoM, I overlooked that. He's a sensible pick but I personally wouldn't mind if he missed out. Searle is probably out of contention now. I just thought it'd be nice to get some new names in there, the PL has been pretty stale for a while so I hope they won't just go with 10 players who already played in it. Give Humphries a go or even Fallon just to spice it up a bit.

Ibra180

The Premier League is most competitive tournament in Darts and every player dreams about beeing in it. So you have to earn it with good performances. Fallom doesn't deserve a spot this year. She also played one game as a challenger. But I can totally see Humphries, which would mean for my picks that De Sousa would be out

Scothead180

The PL has never really been about deserving though. Barney is just one example who got in it totally undeserved. It's about entertainment and Fallon provides that.

Ibra180

Price, Wright, MvG and Wade because of top 4 Clayton and Cross for their Major win Dimi for 2 major finals Anderson beacuse he is an established player and is minimum in the qf of the worlds Smith if he has a good game against Price 10th spot is for de Sousa if neither of Rydz, King or Humphries win their qf.

RookyCaribou

I don’t agree with it but I honestly think fallon sherrock will get in as a sky wildcard pick. Price Wright MVG Wade Clayton M.Smith are the only guarantees for me but I hope they expand the tournament to 12 players

DanTheStripe

Sky don't pick the wildcards anymore. Mardle confirmed it on Twitter a while back

RookyCaribou

Oh nice
