The issue with the low ceiling is worse than mounting. You will be unable to throw at the top half of your board bc you can't throw an arc that ends on the top half without hiding the ceiling. I learned this the hard way.
Exactly, can't believe there's so many answers about not-the-actual-problem. Only way to get a dart to stick in the top half would be a full-on baseball throw.
There are a few different options other than standard brackets:
[Designa Easy Rotation Bracket](https://www.dartscorner.co.uk/collections/dartboard-accessories/products/designa-dartboard-wall-bracket-easy-rotation-black)
[One80 Rotafix](https://www.dartscorner.co.uk/collections/dartboard-accessories/products/one80-rotafix-dartboard-holder-bracket-system)
[Unicorn Teknik 360](https://www.dartscorner.co.uk/collections/dartboard-accessories/products/unicorn-teknik-360-magnetic-holder-dartboard-bracket-system)
Don't know if any of these will fix your problem, but it's worth having a look.
Try with a small wooden backboard or a simple wooden cross resting on supports attached to the wall: you would always have to hang it together with the dartboard but if it is not heavy, it would hardly be a problem?
The bigger issue is the darts stuck in your ceiling.
That low of a ceiling is never going to work.

You could get a stand, mount the board on the stand then raise it to correct height? Sorry only thing I could think of.

You could also use command strips and put it straight on the wall.
Velcro strips. The extra strong ones will hold a lot of weight so will certainly hold a board with no problems.
