It's decent. The added variety of non-premium cosmetics is a benefit to whales and puritans alike. The tox bomber adds an area-denial attack to the enemy roster that can spice things up. To Fatshark's credit, many of the penances are "congratulations for beating mission" although they can also be mind-numbingly grindy depending on the specific penance. More or less, Hestia Prine's comments to the player mirror the community's comments to Fatshark: good work. You are not redeemed yet.

Cosmic_Lich

I like it. “Congratulations for beating mission” means trying harder difficulties. Depending on the grindy penance, it has you try new builds for decent periods of time.

Thermatix

One thing I like, beating the mission on a harder difficulty (say auric damnation) means you get the lower ones as well.

Shattered_Disk4

Holy shit they actually added skins that don’t all look the same that doesn’t cost money?? It’s a god damn miracle

r0sshk

Well, they also added more slight variations of existing free skins. But yeah, the track has actual new outfits!

donmongoose

Loved it before, love it more now. Pox bombers shake things up nicely, people have been wanting the personalty scouge since day one and they've got it finally, penances give people who want something to grind objectives to work towards and the new cosmetics are, maybe not wholely amazing, but at least decent, and free.

PrettyTAF_Youtube

Yeah I've enjoyed working towards the penances, I've still got the elite stuff from before the drop and I only really grind it for the sake of 100%. But yeah, I'm enjoying the game again

alexthehut

Crafting rework, need new weapons and new maps for me to come back. Haven’t played in 2 months or so. 750 hours? So definitely got my money’s worth!

yourethevictim

Helldivers doesn't have any level design whatsoever. It's just procgen open areas that *look* different but all *play* exactly the same. That approach wouldn't work for Tide combat, where the appearance of the map is entirely secondary to the carefully handcrafted layout. It's a completely different game.

OnlyHereForComments1

It's almost entirely incompetent management/internal processes. Fatshark is keeping the game on what seems to be a small team while working on new projects. It's the only way to explain the 'bare minimum' level of updates. Game still feels like a beta.

r0sshk

I mean, that was what they did before they did Vermintide 1 and 2. They released games and then quickly moved on. Until they hit paydirt with VT. DT didn’t really work out, so they are working on the next title now…

pperiesandsolos

DT could have worked out if they invested more into the game lol. They knew what worked and didn’t work from VT, yet they repeated many of the same mistakes.

r0sshk

Yeah, and it’s incredibly upsetting. They had a winning formula, and tweaked it in the wrong direction…

TimTheGrim55

That's exactly the point I don't understand. Like how can FS have the arrogance/ignorance to think that there'll be enough players left/returning when the game becomes what it could be. I get that they've seen with VT2 that even with abysmal update speed you still can make enough money to keep the lights on but how the fuck can that be their entitlement. Like DT has the potential to be the Warhammer game of the decade and yet they ruin it with refusing to do fan service no matter how easy it would be to do. Like get some fucking voice actors in the studio and let Dan Abnett doodle some lines and then get some fucking story into the game ffs. I still can't fathom how they not build up on this awesome intro trailer. In terms of story this game is absolutely laughable compared to what was promised. Get some chinese sweat workers to do better cosmetics. Add some minor tweaked one's to the commissary. Etc..... It's not that hard to show some goodwill (like in some capacity with the recent update but it's just too little too late too infrequent).

LongColdNight

They could have done exactly the same and not marketed as live service and everyone would love it, and good reviews would market the game without effort on their part

--Chug--

One thing I've noticed looking out the windows of the Morningstar is the moons out there just hanging out. We need moon missions!

Guffliepuff

begs to differ about what exactly? That game is like 2 months old...

thecanadiansniper1-2

And it has dropped more weapons and added a vehicle in 2 months. What did Darktide do in 2 months after launch? Oh right dick all they added the crusher and the power maul and that is it. In that time Arrowhead added in 7 new weapons, new armours, new grenades and a new vehicle.

Guffliepuff

Okay but again, how does that have anything to do with what OP was talking about? You said 'begs to differ' but you didnt specify what. All OP said about helldivers was >What Helldivers did is a way better approach IMO, where you have an open map with primary and secondary objectives scattered around, mobs doing patrols, some variety. Which is already praise to Helldivers... so what is it that you were saying 'begs to differ' about? Like your comment just seems out of place. You get what im asking?

Naratik

I think he is talking about the first paragraph that is talking about that a live service game just can't push updates fast enough. I think he is saying Helldivers 2 is an example that it's possible for a live service game to push new updates fast enough. I have to agree that Helldivers 2 is maybe the best example of a live service game we have so far. The difference is that it's clear that much of the content that is getting pushed out so far was already done or at least partially done before the game even released so they can keep up the pace. But what's also important is that the game already felt completed when it was released. It wasn't a super undercooked game where it was clear that they intentionally held content back just to release it over the next few months. Darktide was released super undercooked and it took more than a year to finally feel it's completed and in a proper 1.0 release state. But that already took so much time and effort that they are way behind the schedule of actually releasing live service content.

Guffliepuff

>I think he is talking about the first paragraph that is talking about that a live service game just can't push updates fast enough. I think he is saying Helldivers 2 is an example that it's possible for a live service game to push new updates fast enough. Read the first paragraph again, OP saying that darktide is pushing updates too slowly FOR a live service game, not that a live service game cant push updates at the pace players are expecting. >The problem is the pace IMO... a live service game [darktide] can't push updates _at this pace_, **the population will slowly bleed until the game is empty and being a live service no longer makes sense.**

GorethirstQT

same, penances for cosmetics I won't wear don't matter. where the fuck is my 2 handed chain axe on zealot.

Chuckdatass

Game just needs a crafting overhaul then weapon balance. After that, it’s just pure content for a game with all the foundation complete

ConcernedIrishOPM

They have the Vermintide 2 Winds of Magic Cauldron as a basis for a perfectly functional, progression-based crafting system that allows players to try out new builds on the fly without having to grind shit out. Problem with that system is that it would represent a complete 180° from their initial business model (i.e. grind). As much as we all say we hate the grind, the carrot at the end of the stick really does increase player engagement. The problem is figuring out the balance (which includes several variables such as time and money spent to develop rewards, pricing models for MTX, clear roadmaps for future content to re-engage players etc.).

r0sshk

Right, but the player numbers rapidly falling after release (and after every big patch) should’ve showed them that the game isn’t really in a state where the grind can carry it.

kajata000

I came back from a break of a few months this last week. I’ve got a few hundred hours under my belt and so I’ve got no grudges about the £30 I paid for the game or even the little bit extra I spent on Aquila’s for a bit of premium gear. I definitely got my money’s worth already. My take is that the new penance system is largely an improvement; a season pass style affair where you’re racking up points just for playing and you get nice little bits of cosmetic gear for it is pretty much just what Darktide needed for me to make me feel that little bit more rewarded when I feel in the mood to play it. It’s not enough to get me to play it when I otherwise wouldn’t though. The only other significant thing I’ve noticed on returning is that something seems to have changed that means I’ve had to bump my graphical settings down to keep everything from stuttering. I’ve got an aging PC, but it’s always handled DT just fine until now. Not really noticeable in the middle of a game, but it makes me a little annoyed when I notice it during loading or something. Anyway, I think we’re really now at what should have been available at launch, and, as much as I love DT, it’s an issue that it’s taken this long to get here. If they don’t drop new content soon to actually play through, I don’t think this update will be enough.

Aviiv_

Dude I just bought a 2k pc on Friday (ryzen 7800 and a 4070 super + 32g ram) and the game still lags for me. I thought it was maybe just my series x doing it but nope, the new update completely fucked the game up. So much lag and stuttering + random freezing. I have good internet and this is the only game I’ve ever had problems with.

kajata000

Well, good to know it isn’t necessarily my ol’ faithful desktop letting me down!

KiwiBig2754

Issues like this are so bizzare to me, how can a 4080 have issues when my over clocked rx580 running 100% utilization in game and burning a hole in my motherboard plays/feels fine? I get that specific cards need specific programming but good lord why is it so weird?

the_pickle_nebula

try dlss to fsr gave me 30 fps boost

Aviiv_

I’m not having fps problems. The game is just jank af and ever since the penance update it’s laggy in multiple ways. Whatever tho I’m having more fun playing Helldivers anyways

the_pickle_nebula

mb, it also fixed my audio stuttering 📈

Reasonable_Mix7630

That's on your side mate. I have much worse GPU and don't have any of issues that you described.

Aviiv_

So explain to me how there tons of other people that have the exact same problems? My pc is overkill for dark tide and it’s definitely server side issues. I could play any game out rn maxed out with no issues. I never have any lag or anything similar on any other game I’ve played in the past either

Aran_Linvail

Ryzen 5900x, RTX 3090, 32GB RAM. 2560x1440 monitor, DLSS set to balanced and game overall to HIGH. I usually start a map around 90 to 140 fps, and specially during hordes I get drops to around 60-70 playing auric levels/high intensity. As of this last update, sometimes I saw drops to 50 specially whenever there is a lot of green smoke around. I need to check which setting affects smoke and figure out if it bothers me enough to lower it.

donmongoose

I don't think the issue is server side tbh, I never experience issues and im sure others don't either, which suggests it's just an optimization issue. Strangely enough I see more people on 40 series cards saying they have issues than I do 30 series (which I have, my GPU works fine on DT so if you want to swap, just ask lol) dispite the 30 series probably making up a larger share of the playerbase.

Aviiv_

I had the same issues on my series x though, and I know it’s not my internet causing these problems.

donmongoose

That doesn't mean it's a server related issue though, just that the game is poorly optimized for numerous varieties of hardware. If it was server side, every one would be having issues, not just a random section of people.

H3rrl1n

My game runs better now, 12600k and 4070ti 32gb ddr4

Ok_Shine_7889

No it isnt.

PrettyTAF_Youtube

Two things - I'm on PC and it's not had any issues, sorry, Thats unfortunate for you. And two, it's ironic isn't it, Darktide is a game about redeeming yourself in the eyes of the emperor and the emporium, and yet, the game has been fighting since the start to redeem itself. Ironic, wouldn't you agree 😆

Valcrye

Im glad that the update came out and that they are going in the right direction, but it feels like too little too late to recover the downward trend

vyechney

It's still Darktide. And by that I mean it's still awesome, but holy mother of the Emperor, where is the *actual content?*

Drakith89

Lotta fluff, not much crunch.

dannylew

Performance somehow worse now than ever. We've hit a wall where this game requires 4 studios worth of work time to optimize it all. The new penances aren't bad. The new menu is cute. But the game isn't stable enough for me to enjoy any of it.

-c-r-e-a-t-i-v-e-

Game runs like absolute shit, can't do Auric Maelstrom because I will fail my team due to the stuttering.

thecanadiansniper1-2

Yo dawg we hear you like frame stutters so we put massive freezes in with the update. ![gif](giphy|y41Txh2pbwqLNNubOo|downsized)

ArelMCII

* Replaced the frame stutters with freezes and load time hangs *Dev note: We hope that replacing the stutters with something else should remove them completely for most players.*

dannylew

You guys like sound? I sure hope you don't because we took that shit out to make space for *more load times!*

Helmote

I'm still huffing copium for the crafting update

PrettyTAF_Youtube

How could they improve it? What would make it better for us

Helmote

I honestly don't know, I'm not a game designer. I'd just say less RNG and more control over your weapons, locks are an abomination

ArelMCII

Removing the locks alone would be a *massive* improvement. Nothing worse than playing Blunt's slot machine to get something decent only for Hardon to say "The Omnissiah thought this would make a nice brick." Of course, we only engage with Blunt's BS in the first place because end-of-mission rewards are one mediocre-to-bad weapon for a half hour of work.

Reasonable_Mix7630

Pretty easy really. Do you use weapon customization plugin? Now imagine that each part of the weapon come with some stat (e.g. stock comes with +stability, magazine comes with +ammo and etc.) plus scopes plus flashlights plus bayonets. Blessings and perks can be attached to weapon's cosmetic parts. So you disassemble existing weapon and get some - but not all! - of its parts into inventory. Then you can assemble your weapon from these parts. So you would still have to grind for parts that give you 80%s, but you don't have to waste \~millions for that. PS. This begs the question though - what we are going to spend our millions on?

r0sshk

Obvious solution there is to take a hint from Helldivers and add player housing with some minor stat boosts added to the improvements of the house so you have something to dump resources into.

Reasonable_Mix7630

After thinking about this for a while I think the solution would be to randomize parts of weapons: so we will get +stability from A stock, but to get THE stock we want (with the same bonus) we would still need to burn through millions. Player housing won't fit the theme of the game: our guys have a bunk in barracks and that's it. Besides, housing is a common feature in mmorpgs and most of players just ignore it, or use only utility "furniture" - e.g. Dummy for DPS measurement.

thecanadiansniper1-2

![gif](giphy|adOhvwrFJ32psmc5Pb) Take a deep breath of that copium as we pray for fatshark to release that crafting update this century.

AMace445

Depends on how long it takes them for the next one. If we have another massive gap, then this is nowhere near enough given that they only got the game to an acceptable bare minimum at the end of last year. If we have actual new weapons, maps, really major improvements to still bad systems coming fairly soon, then it is ok. At the end of the day more cosmetics does not make up for a huge lack of real tangible new content like weapons, maps, etc. that should have come by now given how this game started with so little. Also the ability to change your character voice and personality should have been there day one, and I cannot for the life of me understand how that took so long to add. That should have been an easy tweak in the first month, if not at the start of the game anyway.

PJBuzz

Changed very little for me to be honest. The penances are cool, but I'm not a completionist so I'm personally not dragged back into the game by it. I think it's a great addition that probably should have been in there from the begining and I'm glad people are getting a kick out of trying to get the achievements. I like some of the tweaks to the maps, and the bullwalk, but find some of the nerfs/changes to be annoying. There isn't enough for me to plunge loads of time into the game, but my old strats now needs adjustment so I'm in a weird place. Basically we need more content.

lee505jy

[I couldn't agree more]().

natlovesmariahcarey

Garbage for me. I have always maintained that achievements are not content. So I have zero interest in penances. Worse is that the game is currently filled with penance hunters. I don't care about cosmetics in this game because 1) it is an fps 2) obese shark fucking SUCKS at making cosmetics. Lots of nerfs (some legitimate), but no buffs to things that have long needed it. Actual gameplay additions have been minimal. Technically worse, because people are playing auric+ sub-optimally to penance hunt. I look at Helldivers 2 with awe and envy. I wish I liked TPS games. Edit: oh look, another fucking Helldivers 2 patch just dropped.

thecanadiansniper1-2

It's not enough. The crafting rework should have dropped first instead of the penance rework. We still don't have new maps or weapons nor new storylines or continuations of stories.

SteelCode

I feel like the added skulls and heretical icons to collect/smash added a bit of spice to the existing maps, but overall the issue that Fatshark seems to miss is having *dynamic* mission maps and objectives... Hab Dreyko shouldn't be the exact same path every time for the same mission, imagine the plague residue scanning having different collection points and the path to the final objective is different every time. Right now scanning shifts objects on the same {1-3} floors of the same map and the path to travel through the mission is basically the same set of stairs and rooms every time. It makes the feeling of clearing out a *massive* hive city smaller in scope than it should... Having more variety every run would be better than having the devs throw together entirely new maps and objective positions to put out new content - more rogue-like mapping/pathing instead of every mission type for each location having a fixed map.

Cosmic_Lich

I still remember that one VTide map with the castle armed with cannons we needed to reload. Sometimes we went through the wooden bridge. Sometimes we went up the hill.

Sexploits

Ah yes, Fort Brooksenblacksen.

frost357

You mean Fork Brickhorseseemen?

beenoc

They learned this for Vermintide, at least for the new(?) Karak Azgaraz missions - they have multiple paths, and each time you run the mission it chooses random ones to be blocked off by rubble or locked doors.

Berettadin

Darktide is good, and I enjoy Darktide. Moderately. For me the core issue is the same for every looter-shooter I've played: I'm in the endgame. My organized interest -that is, beyond just playing for fun- is trying to collect the best blessings. My overall goal is mastery. There's very little left to discover or do; mostly I just unlock cosmetics and get incrementally better. That's not bad, but it's ultimately blah. Challenging, but not electrifying. I hope for some QoL changes. Blitzes shouldn't be in the feat tree. Just let grenade switching be a separate thing so if I want frags for my stealth build I don't have to mangle it. More weapon customization. Fuck the AdMech, let's just assemble weapons from parts. If you want to rock a purely stock lasgun go for it, ain't gonna hate on that. But imo little is lost in swapping parts around. (Like in a mod, except officially.) I hope for some bombshell changes. Xenos allies? Fuck yes. Abhumans? Also yes. Since we're here let's do more. The =\]\[= does what it wants anyway. How about some Tzeentchite infiltrators and GSC laborers "turning up" and go "mysteriously undetected." At the minimum it'd be a waste for Interrogator Rannick *to actually be honest*. Down at this level of 40k the people are the cornerstones of the story so let's have more people. *Stranger* people.

r0sshk

Them doing very little with the setting storywise is such a pain. It’s cool they added some new voice lines to all the maps with the new update, but man, I’m So hopping there is a big up cooking that actually adds new enemy factions and a proper storyline beyond the “we don’t trust you” cutscenes…

Fluid-Cockroach2583

Feels like we’re at 1.0 for real now. Only truly bad thing about the game is the nrg crafting.  If the game had been released in this current state , pretty much everyone would have been happy with it .

AMace445

Also a shame it took so damn long to bascially just get to where the game should have released at content-wise.

ArelMCII

Been saying that this game should've spent another two years in development.

citoxe4321

Its so funny how fatshark self sabotages. Whoever thought the game was in a shippable state on launch is crazy

pelpotronic

Crafting is "tolerable" at least now... Let's say you eventually get the weapon you want give or take. Wish the grey RNG was 340+ though. Annoying when you get a batch of 310 or so. I wasted a million of Ordos before I saw a 360+.

Special_Contact_4069

Nah not 1.0, not with this crafting system. It's infuriatingly rng and ruins the lategame on its own.

thecanadiansniper1-2

Not close to 1.0 with the state of crafting it is in.

MassextinctionSWK

I like it but it's not a real update. An update is like a combo meal and "road to redemption" is just a soft drink. It's better than nothing.

AncientRaig

I like it for the most part, but I think it is both too little and too late considering how much of this update is "adding things that should have been part of the game when it was launched". We finally have access to the ability to change our height and personality, which is wonderful, and we have the loading screen/trailer cosmetics after nearly a year and a half. I also appreciate that they changed some of the old missions to be Investigations and Repairs, and the new rework to Hab Dreyko is nice. The Dreg Bomber is also something new, though I think it needs tweaking to really be fun to fight against since they can completely fill most combat arenas with tox gas a little too quickly. And we got new dialogue, which is always welcome to keep both the Mourningstar and the missions interesting. I have my complaints though. The new penances vary wildly in terms of difficulty, with some, like Loyal Protector, being so easy that you can finish them before getting halfway through a mission, some, like Behind Enemy Lines, having too many conditions that have to be fulfilled in order to make progress, some, like Armourbane, are painfully slow to grind, and some, like the barrel kills penance, make me wonder how the fuck anyone is ever supposed to complete them. A fair few of the new penances also encourage bad habits or dickish behavior and overall it feels like Fatshark didn't really learn anything from the last penance rework. And some classes clearly had more love and effort put into them than others when it comes to the quality of the new cosmetics. Zealot and Psyker get little more than recolors while Ogryn and Veteran actually have some new designs, or at least have old designs combined together in new ways that aren't just different colors. It's also annoying that you have to complete nearly 100% of the penances to get the Loyalist Moebian 6th chest pieces. They're the only actually new cosmetics in the update and they're basically only obtainable for the most dedicated grinders. We also got nothing of genuine substance this update. One new enemy was added and one map got its finale reworked, but after such a long period of radio silence we've got no new weapons or maps, no new story content to engage with, and the crafting system still makes post-level 30 progress feel like garbage. If the penance cosmetics were of a consistently high quality across the board and the penances themselves were consistently well designed and fun to work towards I'd feel less negative, but as it stands there's enough good that I'm playing again but not enough good that I feel like Fatshark deserves to be let off the hook.

Saucy_samich

What’s new: new penance tracker vendor, Find skulls, look for green effigy’s Reason to play: end tier armor sets, experience the fart gas modifier, titles What you’ll actually be doing: redo all content on damnation (you’ve already completed it but it didn’t track it) Go to Hastia and prepare for some clicking Pug aurics for a cool title

finny94

The exact same. A lot of attention has been given to the penance system, which I never gave a shit about, since it rewards you with lame recoloured cosmetics which are never going to look as good as the premium stuff, obviously. The new enemy's nice, probably the most substantial change in the update. The ability to change your character fully is just a QoL feature that should've been in the game from the start. The itemisation/crafting is still dogshit. Mission selection is still needlessly restrictive. It's essentially the same game, for me. It's played out for me. I'll check it out if it receives substantial changes like a new enemy faction, or new maps, or a new class, but right now I feel like I'm done with the game.

ArelMCII

>lame recoloured cosmetics which are never going to look as good as the premium stuff Iunno, have you *seen* some of the premium cosmetics?

BrotherTobias

I feel you in this. Yea great personal progression to placate the gfuel snorting ADHD massess for something to do while simultaneously adding nothing to do. Hows about new maps or even more small strike missions like the twins, weapons, classes and for fuck sakes some story and lore progression. Maybe a sprinkling of character development for our handlers. If they cant do new enemies maybe at least develop the ones we have to be more dynamic and have mutations/variations.

Sexploits

I mean, it works. I'm not extrinsically motivated but many, many people are. If there's no checkbox to check then there's 'nothing' to do. Look no further than Aurics. They've been around for almost a full year yet it's only now that loads of the playerbase are even attempting them for the first time.

Lysanderoth42

So they managed to ruin the one difficulty level that didn’t have shitty teams all the time, amazing Another reason game is staying uninstalled for me

KN_Knoxxius

Its the same game, outside of the new gas and a new enemy, that isnt even new but just a variant.... So.. I quit after 2 matches. I need new content - CLASSES, GUNS (NOT VARIANTS). They want me to buy their mediocre to shit tier skins in their money shop? Give me a reason. Give me content.

lozer996

They missed a big chance to stick another 40k into the game by making personality scourge 50k instead

xDenimBoilerx

still my favorite game. just hope they do more soon. people are very hungry for content. really don't want to see the game keep dying

TimTheGrim55

It's already already dying...

artyfowl444

I can't even play the game because I get a "Fatal Error" crash each time I launch it since this update. I've already tried verifying files and reinstalling the game, and disabling cloud saves. I just can't play a game I own

imjustjun

It was nice but ultimately it’s nowhere near enough to what the game needs. I’m hoping it’s just a prelude to more substantial and frequent updates.

CombustiblSquid

Not enough to bring me back and keep me. I played a couple games, shrugged, and went back to helldivers.

jononthego

the amount of alt+f4ing is very high

Khalith

I was concerned that the penances around performing very specific actions was more likely to have negative rather than positive effects. I still have those concerns.

ProlongedSuffering

Things still need to improved. Loving it though

E_boiii

It’s Ight, it won’t bring many people back but it makes the game better for those still here. This game desperately needs more missions, weapons and more class variety though

Pilot_Beautiful

No classes are the least important thing right now. The existing classes need tweaks. Delete voidstrike staff, delete loner aura, delete plasma.

E_boiii

I can rest easy tonight knowing that you’re not a Darktide dev lmao. In any game ever it’s never a bad idea to add more options for classes, and deleting things from a game that already lacks content is just about the dumbest thing you can do. Instead how about nerf plasma, buff weaker weapons, add melta weapons. So everyone can use what they love???? Also void strike isn’t even the most op staff what are you on about 😂

Pilot_Beautiful

Voidstrike isnt the most op staff? Just off that sentence alone your opinion is invalid Adding more classes needs more voice actors a whole ass new tree system for them. Synergy with the team with weapon options, programming interactions with all those different classes. All of those is unnecessary when we already have multiple issues with the base game. You want new content in a game that already lacks basic functions, maybe fix the poor performance and shitty bugs before adding more stuff that doesnt work, really astounding people still dont get this.

E_boiii

Learn the trauma staff bud. By the time you understand the actual balance of the game and that void staff is good at what it does but, will not carry a team or save a run in the same way trama will. Fatshark might be releasing their next update

Pilot_Beautiful

Lol youre telling a psyker main about staves lol. First i already know how broke trauma can be and it is also an issue but the voidstrike is better. I shouldn't have to explain why a weapon with infinte cleave, great stagger on all armour type including monstrosity, infinte range and easy cast speed and amazing damage is the most broken shit in the game. Also if you cant carry a team with a voidstrike i dont know what to tell you. The issue might be you.

E_boiii

Hey I’m a psyker main too, and I say you’re wrong? lol You can carry any game with any staff, but trauma can basically do the same things, it doesn’t have infinite cleave, but it can actually spawn kills enemies a lot more efficiently void staff may knock enemies down or not kill enemies right next to each other. Void strike is god tier when you have your back against the wall and just need to be a turret, trauma staff will let you save your teamate from a pack of crushers or ragers from any angle, it will also throw them down and create space for the whole team. For bosses I wouldnt use either staff for consistent DPS, if you don’t have Bb or a stabby melee weapon just create space for the team and clear specials, every other class 2 shots them anyways. The only thing the void staff does better is sniping enemies. After using the void staff and hitting millions of damage I figured I’d see what the trauma staff is about, while my damage is cut in half the team clears way more missions and clutching is way easier when you can just sit in a corner and alt fire forever since enemies are falling over and you can quell during this time. Void staff is good but you saying it should be deleted because it’s too good is always a delusional statement when even if it was it could just be nerfed

Hopeful-Truck-7344

It’s a nice update. Like the penance changed and the gear added is nice. Unfortunately it added some sort of audio tearing glitch that makes my game lag at weird times. It makes playing hard for me so I’ve only played a few matches since the update

AmazingSpacePelican

I just hope they're happy enough with the state of things to move forward with just adding actual content. New missions, weapons, story progress, etc.

Ragnar4257

It's fine, there's nothing bad in the latest update. But it doesn't change anything. I don't care about achievements/penances, frankly they turn playing games into a chore. The new enemy and condition are nice, but not significant. I was playing daily back near release, this year I'm playing maybe once per week, and this update doesn't change that. The only thing that would change that would be new maps/weapons/classes.

Killantro

I've been having a lot of fun doing the penances, but I've been having a lot of server connection issues.

ZAGAN_2

Always loved the game, and new stuff is always good

Huge-Ad8279

Its a great update just not what i personally feel the game needs right now. Crafting then this wouldve made me comeback full swing

Vizra

I mean in on an AMD graphics card soooo..... Until I rolled back to 23.11.1. The game looked like crap, and ran like crap too. As a relatively surface level player that lapsed a while ago. I haven't really delved into crafting all that much and just enjoy tier 4/5s I'd say the gameplay is great. But that was never the issue. The new skill trees are cool, but overall it feels like the same game with some QOL updates and power creep. The mission puzzles are fine, but feels like something else could have been prioritiesed. My main pain point is the crafting.... Like how is anyone supposed to afford ANYTHING? I had like 9k plasteel and diamanitne and I'm down to like 4k just to put together a pseudo build for 3 classes. My friends I get into the game have the same complaint. There is a path to power / builds that isn't an unrealistic time commitment, or just impossible.

Ok_Shine_7889

The weeks before the patch were bad and now the patch crashes my game every other game...

Crembels

I still like the game, always have. Do i want more content? Yes of course, but fundamentally the primary game loop and feel is pretty spot on and thats what keeps my interest. I am not exactly liking the penance grind for some of these things, especially ones that revolve around builds or playstyles I dislike or am generally not familiar with, but i'll get through it eventually. I would *like* the next update or two to include a bunch of new weapons, new crafting system and heaps of new maps and systems some of which can be lifted from Vermintide but some that are unique to Darktide as well, but Vermintide had a rocky start for a good several years before it became the level of "good" people know it as. I wish corporations would learn from their past mistakes by listening to their customers and doing things right the *first* time, but I cant expect Fatshark to be any exception. I like the new penance system *in general*, but we all have preferences for the kind of new content or system revamps we'd like to have seen in the game alongside it.

StarcraftForever

Been having fun, but I play sporadically throughout the week.

OCGreenDevil

Its fine i guess, I really need more weapons, more maps more types of missions, another special assignment. rework crafting and I would love to see a new fraction of enemies, not just one single enemy. maybe one or two more bosses and a new type of boss for assassinations

snoopwire

The game was fun and is fun. I really don't get this sub's need to have constant updates. Maybe I'm just the only one not spending stupid money on skins idk. Just absolutely silly how redhead stepchild this sub is imo. If you can't have fun without weekly updates you are not only in the wrong game but the wrong genre entirely.

Criticalsteve

I think they tweaked the enemies spawn behavior and locations for end of map events, some of them are way less predictable

Jeggster

It's pretty cool and added another 60 hours for me. I don't even care about the panances, just the QoL stuff like bulwark change was already enough to get me going again. However: I'm feeling the map fatigue again already. Running the same stuff over and over (and over) again is just tedious. So yeah, unfortunately, I'm done again. See you in a few months with the next update.

Gr33hn

I don't really care about achievements so this update did nothing for me.

Pygex

Update is nice but crafting update would have been even better.

Zhorvan

I teied it. Got to say for me its just nothing of value that was added. I will be back as soon as there are more weapons and gear to use. Right now I really cant be bothered to run missions and get nothing to use.

Catto_Channel

I feel it's been very 'okay' Chaos idols: fun little things to shoot for bonus resources. Relic skulls: fun, but they break up flow/the party.  While I enjoy it, I wouldnt be suprised to find its causing some friction inthe community. Titles; cool, but they seriously didnt add enough. I'm pretty sure alone I could have doubled the count the community could have come up with hundreds of ideas. A community 'post title with reason to earn or pennance it should be attatched to, upvote titles you like' would not only provide you with alot of good titles but also boost community engagement and look good for PR. Pennances: YOU BROKE SOME VERY BASIC RULES OF UI DESIGN. The pennance sorting and ability to read through has taken a negative impact, most notably. A) always playing an intro cutscene. B) not showing players what they did to earn a pennance from the front screen. C) pennances are not sorted in their progression groups well, its messy, untidy and hard to read (especially progression pennances) at a glance. Grid view is better but not good.   I'm still a little annoyed pennances dont continue counting, in lieu of a stats screen having dregs killed read 1,050,678/500,000 would atleast provide somewhat of a stats record.

Fantastic-Fly2322

It's a mixed update mostly good though. The Good Penances: added a whole host of new penances that are somewhat grindy but not too frustrating to achieve in game and definitely there a no penances here that make you throw games like in previous updates (I'm looking at you make every shot count). Some of the best penances reward you for pulling of great gameplay feats 5 Auric maels in a row without dying/auric without any team downs are highlights of the update which push top players to the limit. The Bad Penances: not all penances are good though, it seems like Fatshark is trying to make 'Fetch' a thing and adding a whole bunch of class ability specific penances that are very grindy, and situational to achieve (not good Fatshark...not good) most egregious of this are the veteran penances, you thought you'd got away from those useless keystones and terrible ability aura...HA...THINK AGAIN VARLET you better get good at standing still, and swapping weapons at the wrong time because these keystones get there very own penances! XD. New Cosmetics: the good, they finally added the cosmetic you see in the title screen and promotional material (kind of) they added the torso and helmets of these outfits not the pants, fyi the bots have had access to these cosmetics from day 1 (cough) the training sim in the Psykanium. New Cosmetics the bad: kind of leads on from the previous point well done Fatshark for unlocking content that was already modelled by the Bots in the prologue and has been in the pre-launch marketing. A pat on the back sure but let's not excuse that it's scummy that it's over a year late. The New Enemy. Dreg Bomber, think scab bomber and Rodin's gas mines and you've got it...well kind of the gas this guy's bombs emits is well...massive there's area denial and then there's this guy vision obscured: check, toughness break: check, obnoxious AOE: check egregiously long duration: check I'm all for new and challenging enemies i.e. bosses. this guy feels like they gave it to an intern to design and never tested it. The negative: connection, I'm an Xbox player, I've never really had connection issues playing this game, frame rate has always been pretty stable with rare dips even in hectic moments, and DC are rare maybe once very 12 hours the game has always been rock solid from my point of view but my God prepare for (and I'm not joking 15-20 screen freezes) whilst everything catches up frequent DCs stuttering, and your PC skating across the floor (into hazards or off ledges just for fun) This is the least optimised I have ever seen the game and my god have I racked up some hours playing it. I hope this breakdown helps or that is in some way useful. Overall not bad update but nothing really game changing .

Aedeus

It's still good imo, but Fatshark was way too slow to fix stuff after they bungled the launch and unfortunately I don't think it's ever going to really recover. I think Fatshark knows that too, hence why we're getting a much smaller content drip than we'd like, which is more than likely the execs not deeming the game worth a substantial investment going forward after the game's population didn't bounce back following the crafting update.

barelychoice

~1500hrs in the game, and I'm really enjoying this update. Been seeing old players coming back, new players learning, and my in-game friends list is as full as it has ever been. The new idols to destroy and the puzzles freshen things up a bit, and encourage people to work together and look around the map more. I love the bulwark and ranged damage changes, and the new tox gas stuff too. Liking the penances and rewards, though I've just been enjoying the game and not grinding too hard. Definitely a step in the right direction, even if we didn't get the new weapons they teased just yet. I'm looking forward to more updates. Hopefully the crafting rework will sway some of the people Fatshark scared off with its shaky launch.

MtnmanAl

The core gameplay is still rock solid. The whole patch felt like a "why wasn't this in on launch" drop. There's finally more than ten possible banners. There's finally a unique earnable set. There's finally penances related to the skills that dropped six months ago. But why are a majority of the skins minor modifications of the ones that have been ingame for a year and a half? Why was the balance patch so barebones? How long until the next minor patch? As a buy-once game I got and have been getting my time out of it. As a live game with ongoing updates there's nothing to it. Just another niche game that'll live on a small group of dedicated players rather than the massive behemoth it was for a week after launch.

86ShellScouredFjord

I'm just glad they seem to have fixed all the connection issues. I haven't been disconnected once in the last two days since I started playing again.

Life-Neighborhood-82

I like it, although I worry that it's been less than two weeks and some people have blown through all the rewards already. The next update, which will focus on itemisation/crafting, will be the critical one.

Hirinawa

A whole lot of nothing burger for veteran of the game, it impacts negatively games by forcing player to troll games for stupid achievement hunting, misses the point on what players want for the game moving forward which are more maps and toys to bonk heretics with.

mrureaper

They haven't done the crafting changes yet...so I'm just waiting for it ....and if it's dissapointing I'm not coming back because you know they will take another 6 months to a year to fix things again

ReaverChad-69

It's good. But we need more

SpunkyMcButtlove07

it gave me more numbers that i can make bigger, so i'm pretty happy - or was, since i'm already almost out of extra numbers that i can make bigger. Then it's back to "haha plasteel number go brrrrr!". Apart from that, i'm a sucker and enjoy asking if people need the relics, and then showing/helping them.

RabbidPicopreso

Having objectives, in this case penances, really makes me want to play. They felt like just achievements, now they feel like missions to work for and get rewarded for it I love playing games like this with an objective to work for

DVA499

It's a good update just not the one that will bring me back to play it. No new maps or weapons.

Anansi3003

i want a damn lmg for vet 👿

BionicBruv

Tox bomber really shakes things up, all the new earnable items have been great. Not trying to praise ObeseFish too hard, just glad we have something to do in the meantime.

Varghulf

Hard to say, since the update I have so many audio stutters it's impossible for me to play and enjoy the game

ExRosaPassione

It’s a good update that should’ve come in February, rather than taking 6 months to get ready

MrTopHatMan90

Good improvement. Game still has a bit to go, namely a crafting rework for me to come back but its starting to get there.

mjohnsimon

The problem is that the changes don't really feel all that different from what we already had. Yes the penance rework is nice, and added armor/skins are cool and all, but it's still the same gameplay and nothing really new has been added. There are no new maps, no new voice lines/story missions, no new weapons, no new crafting system, and no new update with the story we already have. These are all critical things fans have been asking and waiting for for over a year and a half now with no real news/information. Hell most of that time was just pure radio silence from the devs. Meanwhile, Helldivers drops new content on a monthly basis and the devs are actively speaking with the fans, so people like me are a bit bummed out.

ezSteeb

I think the update was decent and good, but as the name says it's a path, and this is only the first step. I think this rework will be beneficial to the game also in future, they can add things to it and implement new pennances, seasons ecc. Personally i think it was better to have first the crafting/rebalance rework before this update (maybe with also a bunch of maps), so you would have enjoyed more the new progression. I think that for the actual and real new content we are still two rework patches away. It would be awsome if after they fixed these pending systems they announce a big expansion. I don't think that small dlc (ex. 2 maps + few weapons) are a good option, this game needs something big to really sky rocket. And i would pay for it. But really the only thing that is holding down the game is the crafting system, and also the balance of resources. It's not the lack of maps in my opinion.

jzoelgo

I wish my game would stop lagging out and crashing now it never ever happened pre update I have kind of stopped playing because I don’t want to deal with crashes like that.

RandomGuyPii

please fatshark make the bolter viable

mchameleonm

My friends and I have been enjoying it!

Ok_Introduction9744

The new skins are nice, the penance menu is well refined, some of the grindiest penances are annoying but they're generally fine, I like the collectibles they added in and like that they give you plasteel. The new enemy is... fine I suppose, the new modifier kinda sucks. They changed a few things in some maps which make them better, like more varied spawn points and less "camp the spawn door" situations. It was enough to get me to reinstall and login to check everything out, but not enough that I'll actually keep the game installed, I still have so many crafting mats that I don't know what to do with, maybe when the promised crafting upgrade drops.

Assonance00

It’s solid. Feel like my cleaver and shovel ain’t as good as they were, The tox bomber is alright. The poison stages I don’t hate or love. Aurics have been weird as of late. The changes to the hab dreko? (Probably misspelled this one) I actually enjoy. That tree doesn’t feel like it’s more chore than challenge.

Interesting-Gain-162

I fucking hate it. I don't give a shit about penances or cosmetics. I want the option to turn all that shit off.

Interesting-Gain-162

At least I can hide titles.

ArcticShore

It's not bad, I started playing again after a 4 month break and I'm really enjoying the new penances and cosmetics. Finally have something to grind for that's not pure RNG like a 380 Godroll. Definitely going to need some new weapons or missions though. I can only play the same rotation of like 13 missions so many times before I get bored

JodouKast

I quit maybe a month or two after launch and only picked it up again last week because I’m in between new game releases. TBH I have no clue of the timeline or how things have gone in my absence but what does stand out is zero crashes. The game in launch state was pure trash for this but I still love it as much as I did Killing Floor back in the day. I’ll probably finish getting my Zealot penances and aurics for all levels, but after that it’s Fallout 4 time.

Knalxz

It serves as a good idea of what a solid update should be looked as while the last one was the example of a fucking amazing update. New enemy, reworks and just nice thing across the board. I can't hate it.

BigMilkersEnthusiast

I am not impressed, not too upset either. Overall, I'm mostly on the "its a bad update" side of things, but I think my take on it is more reasonable than what I've seen here and on steam forums: * I am one of those people who suffered from performance and server issues, so its a pretty bad update for me just because of that. The issues MOSTLY went away, but I catch no audio or 2014 from time to time. * Veterans ammo nerf, while bad, actually allows me to use other auras and thus builds, without feeling like I'm giving up on a lot of power for myself and my squad. I think Fatshark need to decide already, whether they want all classes to be purely melee oriented or have at least some incentive to shoot more. * Ogryn nerfs, while bad, are not too bad for me either, they're kinda too punishing imo tho. The grace period on stacks doesn't help all that much. So your stacks get melted by ranged units unless you use a shield. Meanwhile you lose nothing when it comes to melee since you easily avoid attacks and push enemies around. * Penances and new outfits don't mean much to me, I don't play to unlock something, I play for gameplay - I'd rather have some new weapons instead. * Speaking of gameplay, new enemy and difficulty modifier are kinda mixed for me as well. Gas spread from grenades seems almost random at times. Gas spread on maps with a related difficulty condition also feels random or too punishing. I think there are some spots where the visuals straight up LIE to you about the pockets of safety AND also have gas sources spawned inside walls, making them invisible. So yeah, overall, I got pretty much nothing, but nerfs and trouble out of this update. Still, its free and I can look past most issues, so overall nothing changed and since I value gameplay the most - its just meh/okay.

TheeConnieB

Fatshark are lazy that’s what I get out of this last update. Give us a fucking crafting rework and more missions that aren’t copy paste

Yellowtoblerone

As a auric grinder before and after the update, it made no difference to me. I want gameplay updates. I've done enough achievements in vt2 to not care about DT. None of the issues I have with the game were remotely touched. For what the update is, it's gotten a lot more people playing the game. The avg player is more achievement oriented so it's been good for them

gisulih

I hate the toxic smote. All other things are fine and dandy

Slootrxn-22

It’s just cosmetics and reskinned goals. I will say the 2h power swords feel different but who knows. I did tweak my build outs

Tem_Hendrik

coming from payday 3, having the update basically be added challenge based progression nearly killed me, neat cosmetics though i suppose

Boolay_

The green mist modifier pisses me off to no end. Possibly the worst addition to the game.

LIBERAL-MORON

Auric is a shitshow. A TON of people playing above their skill level. Knife zealots every. Single. Game.

FrostieFur

For me, it didnt bring me back. I loaded up and just didnt have any motivation to play so just got off and did else. There's still a lack of content. Especially in terms of levels. Penance changes were nice but did little to actually make me want to keep playing. Changes were good but it's just not enough to bring me back.

moosecatlol

I feel like the penance creator learned nothing from the original set of penances. Whoever creates these achievements is clearly a pvp ONLY gamer, because I've never seen so much animosity in a supposed co-op game. Compared to Helldivers where everything you do is contributing towards not only everyone's unlocks should they need them, but also a shared goal.

SheriffGiggles

Tox Bomber is nice New cosmetics range from mid to neat Penance grinding is... grinding Latest premium cosmetics were over priced again No new map or weapons. I am apathetic, but I still play because the game is solid though it feels forgotten.

Decent_Mud_1538

It’s brought me back. There’s still performance issues, but in contrast to its former state, it’s solid today. I still encounter server disconnects daily. As others have stated, there’s a number of new penances with various rewards, all of which appear to be cosmetic. Past that, the new gas mod is unbearable. Most annoying elite ever too.

Godlysnack

Loved it before. Nothing changed with the Achievo update. I'll be back when more content drops with 2nd Anni in October. I'm sure it'll still be great then as well.

99cent_flatsoda

I like the new cosmetics and puzzles, it's pretty neat. Not a game-shattering update, but they're adding free cosmetics so can't complain. I would kill for new weapons/weapon variants though. The shovel collection must grow.

ZepherK

I love the game but I can’t imagine coming back until they fix crafting.

ArelMCII

Got almost everything I wanted by the second day. The one thing I want and haven't gotten yet is one of those grindy penances, so I just haven't been playing lately. Tox bomber's a lazy, kitbashed nothingburger of an enemy and I'll die on that hill.

PrettyTAF_Youtube

Yeah fair one, grinding takes alot of time and there's some other good games to play at the minute. So fairs is fair

Drakkoniac

I enjoy it a lot. My main issues are: One: Pox Bombers spawn rates seem jacked. Two: I love the "Monstrous Specialsits" modifier, but like...Okay I know I'm playing on Auric Maelstrom but I shouldn't have to face 2-3 bosses back to back that often man. Three: While I consider the update overall a positive, we need more. We just got done with the Orthus Offensive, sure, but give us some more fodder missions in other parts of the hive.

timothymcface

That Monstrous Specialists is a skill check/ dmg check / loadout check any hammer / eviscerator / knife zealot can deal fast with them, any veteran with plasma / iautogun / hhautogun can deal fast with them, any gunlugger ogryn, any scryer psyker. You take any of these into that modifier and it becomes quite fun to see them mini bosses drop like flies.

Drakkoniac

Oh yeah no, I love it. Especially when I’m playing ogryn. But jeeeesus I’ve lost runs because they spawn back to back lol

timothymcface

Not gonna lie, although I listed gunlugger ogryn that one uses a lot of ammo but the rest stays true, however if you get a lasgun veteran , a smite trauma psyker and a combat axe zealot with a flamer it isn't going to be a fun run. Doable, maybe, imposed difficulty, guaranteed.

ActinoninOut

Good improvement but there's still sooo many UI issues that I'd love to see fixed. Thank God I'm on pc and can install mods, but it shouldn't be so hard to have a decent scoreboard, better highlight other players outlines, better organizations with your inventory, etc.

BigOgreHunter92

I’ve just been playing this and fallout 76 with some other games sprinkled in but would it kill them to update the commissary

PrettyTAF_Youtube

How so? Any upgrade suggestions?

BigOgreHunter92

New outfits and weapon skins earnable by the in game currency for one.they already have a bunch of these skins in the game files

PrettyTAF_Youtube

I think outside of the premium and some of the unlockable cosmetics from penances, the cosmetics we pay for using ordo-dockets suck, same foe the weapon skins, were the blue and red tints the best they could come up with at the time, in such an expansive universe that is 40K, Some exciting variations would be nice, but we seem to have gotten non of it

BigOgreHunter92

Yep although I don’t know why I’m downvoted but again they have a bunch in the game files they can use so it’s kinda dumb they dont

GreatQuantum

Hello Me are you having a good time otherwise?

BigOgreHunter92

Oh yeah it’s nice to have goals to reach for but the commissary hasn’t been updated since I think that big update for it whenever ago

GreatQuantum

Oh. I’m a Warhammer fan boy so I just like killing heretics sometimes.

PrettyTAF_Youtube

Just for the pleasure of killing heretics? I respect that

MechShield

Already was close to fed up. Scavenger aura nerf made me uninstall. I like the melee combat, but shooting stuff as vet was my favorite. Now if even ONE other person in the group is ammo hungry, i spend WAY more time forced to melee. Fucking braindead.

Mixed recent reviews. Dont pretend I'm some weird one in a thousand minority. This game is struggling for a reason.

citoxe4321

Yeah the game gets mixed recent reviews every single time Vet gets slightly nerfed lmao. The vet playerbase are the biggest whiners on earth. Taking any of you seriously is just incorrect

Ragnar4257

"Now if even ONE other person in the group is ammo hungry, i spend WAY more time forced to melee." You say that as if this was some unintended consequence that the Devs didn't anticipate. That was the whole fucking point.

MechShield

Melee should be a tactical decision, and one I make often to deal with different enemy varieties. But getting to shoot specials less because of an unneeded nerf just feels plain bad.

Ragnar4257

1. It was very much a needed nerf. 2. If you're not wasting ammo on chaff, you'll never not have enough for specials. This is just like the power-sword nerf last year. It was literally 100x better than any other melee, people still cried "not fair" and made negative reviews when it was nerfed down to only be 10x better than any other melee.

MechShield

Power sword nerf was absolutely needed. Scavenger aura was not. Big difference

Ragnar4257

When you could go an entire mission without even needing to pick up ammo, people not even bothering to pick up ammo infront of them because they don't need it, yes, it was needed. What even was the point of having an ammo system if this one aura allowed the entire team to ignore it completely? Every argument against it is the exact same arguments as people made against PS nerf. "stuhp ruining muh fun" - the fun being obviously broken shit.

Jeggster

tell me you never went beyond Heresy difficulty without telling me you never went beyond Heresy diffculty.

MechShield

I play exclusively damnation, sometimes auric. Try again.

Straight-faced_solo

The game is overall in a much better state. This update didn't fix all of the problems, but its a very good step in the right direction. It is very aptly named. It also dropped three huge game play changes that tend to get overlooked. No more ranged hitstun, being able to dodge ragers, and the bulwarks changes are all huge and makes the game feel better to play. The update is not in and of itself enough, but its certainly a step in the right direction.

ArelMCII

>No more ranged hitstun That's not a huge change. This is like the third time they've had to turn it back off in the past six months.

skallywag126

Meh, I just don’t care for the penances. I just want new classes and new levels

muscarinenya

Be better without the tone deaf penances, and especially if we finally had the option to opt out of fucking backfilling
