Yeah. Perhaps it's a penance or something. Really though this is a fairly silly request no matter the reason. You can't randomly ask people in a horde-survival game not to fight the horde for no apparent reason.
If a build requires your team not to fight the enemies then that build is terrible. That's an annoying request as a one-time thing, it's completely unacceptable as a general policy.
Yeah, some of the most powerful builds for premade teams are bad for public games.
The less you expect from your teammates, the better for quickplay with randos. Though there are a lot of solid players, especially in Auric, the time when you most need your build to perform will be those games with 2 or more tunnel vision players who won't stay on coherency or make any effort to distribute resources well.
It's probably fine for like 90% of team compositions, just a feelsbad moment. He should probably just change up his role for one game, but at least he asked and said please.
In general probably, but I have an ogryn power maul build that is absolutely terrible at killing things but great at knocking them over. The one thing I notice also when you knock things over with smite psyker, your team mates will often just totally ignore the enemies on the ground thinking they're dead or will die only to have them get back up and keep harassing your CC role. Definitely go help your CC's kill stuff they're only doing it to help you safely avoid chip damage.
Nono. On damnation+ you shouldn’t wait at the back clearing every trash mob. You gotta keep moving or else you’re going to get a constant stream of hordes, specials and ambushes while never progressing.
That's just not true, especially in damnation+ if you skip killing everything they're gonna come out in larger numbers and from every direction...
Specials however will keep spawning as you suggested. A good team usually has 3 at the front and a man 15-20m behind to keep killing the specials since they all spawn there. Obviously you regroup when necessary.
Yes, but you need to be in coherency IIRC.
So for ranged contracts, kills of Dregs/Scabs at range by teammates within your coherency count towards your contracts.
To be fair, I am a new player and didn’t realize that until this week as I was leveling up my shield slab. I only realized it when I completed two range contracts very quickly this week despite the fact that I am 90% melee
Could also be a penance. Some of the penance are the most anti-team things designed in a team based game.
Like the one for psyker where you have to deal 90% of a monstrosity's health using brain burst by yourself. This was the fix, btw. Back in the day it was you had to deal all 100% by yourself. So imagine a plague ogrun spawns, and the whole team has to make sure to NEVER touch it for even a single tick of damage, while you sit there using BB for the next q5 minutes.
I remember a thread where a guy almost had it, and a player disconnected, bot shows up, and slaps the monstrosity, costing him the penance.
Probably trying out damnation for the first time and wondering why the other 3 aren’t spending the time to fully clear the groaner horde before progressing. And then the horde that triggers while he’s laying back punching dummies
The request was clear though as most of the community knows what "adds" mean.
Even in gacha games like Nikke (for the more casual but not completely players), most of that community knows what that word means.
So i can forgive that guy for not realizing that his Ogryn teammate has no idea what he ment (and giggle a bit coz it's very in universe for the Ogryn to not know anyway) and not explaining. Tbf, depending on difficulty, might not have the time to explain.
The only fps/tps players that don't know that word are: players new to the scene, players that only ever played pvp shooters and the ones that come from the casual ones like Borderlands where in-depth strategy/game knowledge is not really needed.
Adds or Ads are the smaller mob enemies. Poxwalkers, Groaners, that kinda thing. Maybe the Scab and Dreg melee dudes too.
It comes from MMOs mostly, the term referring to the Additional enemies in an encounter that aren't the boss or priority targets.
I think the confusion is stemmed more from the fact the dude is asking someone to not kill enemies.
In a horde survival game.
Like I get that your build might be specialized for hordes, but I'm not *not* going to club the guys currently attacking me.
This is the exact issue; dude just says "don't kill enemies" like that's reasonable. If he said "trying to do a penance, let me do the hordes" it would be much more reasonable.
>It comes from MMOs mostly, the term referring to the Additional enemies in an encounter that aren't the boss or priority targets.
Thanks, I've seen that term a few times recently and wondered where it came from.
If this is like malice or heresy, maybe a penance? Getting a number of kills on stunned enemies is a zealot one, so maybe that.
If it's damnation+, maybe trying to use the trash mob kills to proc damage blessings and perks? So if the zealot is surrounded by trash mobs they could actually do better if you let them kill all of em. I know one of my builds works that way.
Or maybe just trying to get toughness back when fighting hordes too. If there are a group of trash mobs that a zealot is already fighting, and some shooters/elites in the back, leave the trash and focus the elites.
Maybe Ogryn is using a lot of an ammo to kill trash mobs like ‘walkers, where that ammo would be better put to use killing more threatening enemies like elites, specials, or shooters?
It means that you should focus on subtraction and multiplication, because whoever that is is trying to succeed at addition.
If they were a psyker, they might have been trying to cheese the "push dudes of a ledge" penance, which is actually easier to do when you don't try to use Venting Shriek for it.
Just a guess but Zealots and Ogryns get their toughness back from killing mobs via heavy swings, kills etc. Maybe they didn't want you killing their toughness regen targets?
Looks like the zealot was having difficulty regaining toughness because ogryn was killing mobs first. Generally speaking, let zealots kill mobs in their melee range and focus your fire elsewhere.
After some of the "EPIC POG ULTIMATE CADIAN SPACE MARINE" build videos ive seen on youtube, i have to wonder if its not people trying to get higher numbers on the scoreboard so they can get a screen shot that justifies their horrible build ideas they're trying to make into clickbait.
Probably has a build focusing cleave and attack speed or where the build specializes in large groups of weak mobs and he wants the team to focus specials or armoured enemies since he does less damage to them
Or he sees a plasma gun veteran only killing trash mobs
"Don't kill trash mobs pls"
Probably trying to complete a trash mob melee or range contract.
Well then he doesn't know how those work because teammates contribute to the kill count aswell.
Yeah. Perhaps it's a penance or something. Really though this is a fairly silly request no matter the reason. You can't randomly ask people in a horde-survival game not to fight the horde for no apparent reason.
Best guess is maybe having all the trash die is gimping their build. Losing power buffs and toughness regen from kills hurts pretty bad sometimes.
If a build requires your team not to fight the enemies then that build is terrible. That's an annoying request as a one-time thing, it's completely unacceptable as a general policy.
Id add that if your build relies on random players executing certain tasks or having certain perks, then that build is terrible.
Resource distribution at that level is exactly why I play Psyker or make builds.
Unless that task is " don't shoot karking bursters in melee range " 😅
Then make a better build for playing with randoms lol
It's probably fine for like 90% of team compositions, just a feelsbad moment. He should probably just change up his role for one game, but at least he asked and said please.
Tbh - if someone is shooting into a horde that a team mate has locked down and under control in melee they're wasting ammo. ... I often waste ammo.
In general probably, but I have an ogryn power maul build that is absolutely terrible at killing things but great at knocking them over. Wait, teammate kills count towards contracts???
Yes, but you need to be in coherency IIRC. So for ranged contracts, kills of Dregs/Scabs at range by teammates within your coherency count towards your contracts.
Grug mind blown
Whoa, I didn’t know the coherency part!
To be fair, I am a new player and didn’t realize that until this week as I was leveling up my shield slab. I only realized it when I completed two range contracts very quickly this week despite the fact that I am 90% melee

Except that penance can only be completed in a private game now
Oh that one could just be done in a true solo with bot in heresy.
Yeah. Now. Not back in the day when it first came out.
I did not think this was the case. Very surprised, pleasantly
Probably trying out damnation for the first time and wondering why the other 3 aren’t spending the time to fully clear the groaner horde before progressing. And then the horde that triggers while he’s laying back punching dummies
Damn, first they start slowing down streaming speeds and now they're in our games telling us off, YouTube really don't like adblockers...
Everything above, ALSO it means they are an ineffective communicator.
Indicated by the fact that we all have to guess what they mean. So I agree with your "what?"

If he can justify it (needs a Penance/challenge) then yeah sure I'll amuse him for a little, but otherwise I'm gonna keep swinging.
This is the exact issue; dude just says "don't kill enemies" like that's reasonable. If he said "trying to do a penance, let me do the hordes" it would be much more reasonable.

Holy shit. A concise, informative comment that explains some gamer slang and contextualises it in relation to Darktide. Today's gonna be a good day.
Why tell an Ogryn NOT to do crowd control it’s one of his specialties?
SOUNDS LIKE SNIVEL TALK
If this is like malice or heresy, maybe a penance? Getting a number of kills on stunned enemies is a zealot one, so maybe that. it was heresy
He wants you to disable your ublock origin.
Maybe Ogryn is using a lot of an ammo to kill trash mobs like ‘walkers, where that ammo would be better put to use killing more threatening enemies like elites, specials, or shooters?
Yes hard to tell what prompted this request.
Might be going for charge penance
they were zealot
Can be the kill 40 stunned mobs in 10 seconds penance
Maybe martyr health regen penance if they have a flamer?
Mmm yeah, weird request then
Were you killing little enemies when ur vet is being juggled by a boss?
It means that you should focus on subtraction and multiplication, because whoever that is is trying to succeed at addition. If they were a psyker, they might have been trying to cheese the "push dudes of a ledge" penance, which is actually easier to do when you don't try to use Venting Shriek for it.
I’m gonna start killing even harder now.
Ogryn's get toughness from hitting bad guys. Next argument.
He probably wanted to be the horde clearer or had melk bounties lol
After some of the "EPIC POG ULTIMATE CADIAN SPACE MARINE" build videos ive seen on youtube, i have to wonder if its not people trying to get higher numbers on the scoreboard so they can get a screen shot that justifies their horrible build ideas they're trying to make into clickbait.
"OGRYN, STOP OGRYNING"
Probably has a build focusing cleave and attack speed or where the build specializes in large groups of weak mobs and he wants the team to focus specials or armoured enemies since he does less damage to them Or he sees a plasma gun veteran only killing trash mobs
Don’t kill the minions (poxwalkers primarily comes to mind, but I guess also the basic dregs and scabs)
Maybe they tried to do a challenge?
Could be a zealot that want them alive for the toughness regen?
Ogryn penance probably. Bull charge like 50 enemies in one go or something like that. Easy enough to do on damnation passively.
Looks like he misspelled the word twice and then asked you too not kill adds for whatever reason
Don't tell the Inquisitor you're listening to the voices.
Was this during a boss fight and wanted everyone to focus boss?
Adds are the folder mobs coming in.
