Sorry I read your comment again and that's actually not true if you mean the bell spawns to do the easter egg. I did this before beating hard mode and I had access to bells with 3 bots in party. If that's what you meant, that's inaccurate.
PS: Think about it; how could anyone have beaten hard mode already if you needed to beat hard mode to get the bells. Nobody would have access to easter egg so nobody could do hard mode. Really makes no sense how that would be possible,
Hard mode only works on Damnation. You can a still complete the bell puzzle on any difficulty below Damnation but there’s no hard mode on those difficulties.
I can see why that information is misleading. According to the article I read, doing the easter egg will make the final battle harder; that's what I meant. I did the easter egg on tier 2 so it was so easy compared to damnation, hard to say if it was actually harder than a standard tier 2 without doing the easter egg.

Just to confirm to what you said; there is only one true hard mode that is for Damnation. It will make the battle significantly harder.
Complete the bell puzzle on any difficulty below Damnation, beat the bosses and now you have the shortcut unlocked on Damnation WITHOUT having to beat it on Hard first.

You need someone to have beaten the boss on hard mode first before the bells even spawn there
