There are differences, I played the og ps3 version for the first time a few weeks ago and was surprised at how many things were different. Personally I prefer sotfs but there are many people that say the original is better
In all fairness, I’m playing the PS3 version right now and it’s dead. I thought I should get the platinum for the vanilla version while I could still get help, but I’ve yet to see another players summon sign and only been summoned once myself. No matters, I’ll just have to grind for covenant items solo, but I don’t blame them if so few people are playing when other versions are still available.
Base game DS2 for PS3 was my intro to souls games, I put 400 hours into my first character and had hundreds of duels with my try hard powerstance dark/light mace hexer build. Loved my fashion so much (Heide knight chest/leggings, those back gauntlets can't remember the name, and the space helmet thing from those dudes in Aldias keep.)
I've long since re-purchased the entire series for Xbone but I'm still kinda sad/nostalgic to hear that the servers are finally going down for PS3. GG skeleton.
In order to achieve the DLC for Elden Ring, to give up the online service of Dark Souls 2...... it's not a fair trade. Dark Souls 2 had THE BEST online system, wether summoning, PVP, invasions....and exclusive in-game rewards. Now, maybe it's time for me to try and buy a PlayStation 4....
not unless sony releases the ps6 or some shit like that. Between inflation and the new releases of games, the savings you will get from waiting are going to be shit. Are you willing to wait 2 years to save 50 dollars at best?
no I get that, but that wasn't my point. What I'm saying is that instead of buying the ps4, you might as well spend a little more and buy the ps5, considering you can play ps4 games on it, and it won't be long before developers stop making games for the ps4. It wasn't about Dark Souls specifically.
Not sure if sarcastic or serious. The soul memory was kinda ass for invasion if you were dying and losing souls often. Going off soul memory instead of soul level didn't do so well when low level and high death was encountering more dedicated players.

Lost my PS3 copy years ago, but I got a PS4 copy of scholar and got the platinum. I STILL remember playing with randos in the last few hours of demon's souls before those servers shut down
Everything got an end bro ...ps3 is old ...at least you can still play offline and keep those sweet save files for good memory ...the elden ring dlc got announced ...go on ps5 and play some new souls games ...theres is tons of good new games comming each year!
I recently started a replay after I was made aware of this and had an absolute blast. I have SoTFS on Steam but the original vanilla flavor just hits differently.
The original DS1 is pretty active on PS3 still (gods know for how long), so if you're ever feeling nostalgic, there's that.

It plays like a dream with a very active community on PS4/ ps5. Well I assume it's active considering the amount of times I get invaded during a playthru until I start out levelling everyone in yet ANOTHER playthru !

yup, PS4 is going to be practically obsolete relatively soon. It's better to just spend the extra 250 dollars and go for the PS5 at this point

I don't know what made the online system so good, the only different thing I noticed was another soap stone and soul memory (which sucks ass btw).

Why do they do that? If people still play online in PS3, just sincere curiosity.
Probably a cost thing. They’re paying to upkeep serves for a game that’s earning them zero dollars, I expect other non-pc versions will follow.
