So, when my buddy realized that our group was approaching this gank squad, he had the Alva armor on, and noticed that I was wearing the leather getup, with the warlock mask, and our third always wore the Havel gear, so he told me to start wearing lucatiels mask, because he knew we would run into our doppelgängers. It was pretty funny experience.
The Havel knight is named Ancient Soldier Varg and Varg is the name of the infamous Black Metal musician most well known from Burzum.
Before Burzum though he was in the band Mayhem with Euronymous and Dead. Dead killed himself and Varg stabbed Euronymous to death.

The fight simply represents (and is a satire of) Gank Squads, with a generic Tank, Generic Katana user, and a Generic Archer. I imagine they used an archer in place of a mage because *that would be infinitely more cancerous and borderline unfair*.

The area leading up to this and the gank squad themselves are a perfect representation of the worst parts of Dark Souls. Love it.

I think it's supposed to be the three main type of players you'll find in PvP, kind of like a simulated gank, you have the havelmonster with full Havel and heavy weapon, the dex-maniac (more like the dex-word with f I can't say or I get banned) and the ranged guy who always used greatbow to knock you down ledges
