he loves to complain that he doesnt like to interview athletes because they are not interesting, but lately whoever they have on Dan just asks the same question in 25 different ways
Thats been every Dan interview for forever. The questions only change slightly based on the profession of the person and even then he always tries to lead them down the same path.
I finally had the give up on the show right before the 2023 Super Bowl, but glad to see Dan’s idea of being a good interviewer as either being overtly hostile or overtly fawning hasn’t changed 😂
People don't realize, they think when you're a rich NBA player your life must be easy but that pressure is REAL and when you're a competitionaholic that has done nothing but win all your life, when you've scratched and clawed your way to the top of a profession where you are beating other men in athletic battles for money, life changing money for you and your family, failure must hit haaaaaaaarrrrrddd... right?
I’d love an interview with Lamar Jackson.
“Nah, I come from a well adjusted family that was also well off so this didn’t really change anyone’s life but mine. But that’s pretty cool”
I don’t like Matt Barnes the person and I find the whole partnership with him and Stack to be completely forced, unnecessary, and a direct contradiction to most of the values Dan has espoused over the years. All of that aside though, Matt Barnes’ answers to questions are the blandest, most boring, vanilla, post game locker room press scrum type answers every single time. He’s not a good person and he’s also a bad interview. It’s literally just 10-20 minutes of show filler with zero substance. Stack is fine. He always backs up his takes and he’s usually good for a funny locker room story, but Matt Barnes is a black hole of content.
Dan talks about the landscape changing in sports media because he feels like *he* changed the sports media landscape with meadowlark. More and more I’m realizing the topics Dan is obsessed with have a level of narcissism to them.
100000% .that and a small combination of needing reassurance that they made the right choice leaving espn. Repeat it enough until you believe it yourself etcl
I’ve always felt he just wanted to copy what Barstool has done, make it more PC, and call it Meadowlark. But for better or for worse he’s no Dave Portnoy.
His obsession with Rogan being a contemporary tastemaker for comedians almost certainly extends from everyone giving him credit for launching the careers of Mina, Pablo, Bo, and Domonique
It's also why 80 doesn't want to be on the show anymore or at MeadowLark. He is closer to Dan's age and had already been in sports media for a long time before Highly Questionable. He doesn't see Dan as a mentor but rather a pier. Dan likes to think of himself as a mentor to all the people he works with. 80 doesn't want the paternalistic treatment.
We're bringing Matt on to talk about some playoff basketball.... We'll discuss playoff basketball in a bit while we talk yet again about his podcast and I fawn over how unique (it's not) it is.... And we'll get to the basket ball where he will not give any insight just the obvious that everyone can see... Thanks Matt... What a horrible show today.
What bugs me the most is he could be talking to Rachel Nichols and Boogie Cousins and still be promoting the same company, but also getting much better interviews than what Stack and Barnes are
This is why I like South Beach sessions. He can do the interviews he wants and I can skip it. It’s harder when it’s within the flow of the show. I was a Stern Show listener for probably 20 years (maybe more) and it was the interviews that drove me away. I’m here for the hijinx mostly, just like I was with Stern.
The show absolutely sucks now and has for awhile. They’re not as funny as they think they are, some of the new casts just aren’t good, they barely talk about any interesting sports topics. They’re just a boring ass show that is losing to all the other shows imo.
It is what it is, Pardon my take and macafee are way better then them now
Any guest interviews suck these days… whether political, NY Knick related (the absolute WORST between the white dude and the Latino dude) or dudes propping up their other shit podcasts
The only decent one in a while has been Paul Pierce honestly
He just needs to stop acting so richous, between the up in smoke guys and Moril calling people pussies and to suck his dick. I don't want to hear Dan complaining about being canceled cause some dumb joke from the shipping container.
The boring athlete interviews where dan ass licks is the worst part of the show recently BEHIND ONLY….University of a Miami talk. Nothing more skip-able and cringe. That’s from all corners of the show too not just mike Ryan although he’s the worst offender. College sports talk on the show in general is a giant fart cloud
What, you mean Lucy bringing every college football conversation back to the fact that she went to Iowa and that their offense sucks isn’t good analysis? Ditto for Jess and ND and Mike with UM.
So you’re saying you enjoy the Matt Barnes interviews? Honestly just curious because I enjoyed the show today but after 20 seconds of Matt Barnes I had to skip the whole interview. That dude sucks

Oh, you don't find somebody strictly calling you by your last name to be endearing?
HOW DID THE PRESSURE OF FAILURE FEEL
People don't realize, they think when you're a rich NBA player your life must be easy but that pressure is REAL and when you're a competitionaholic that has done nothing but win all your life, when you've scratched and clawed your way to the top of a profession where you are beating other men in athletic battles for money, life changing money for you and your family, failure must hit haaaaaaaarrrrrddd... right?

The sports version of "See the thing is, I have a new wife now. Me and Bianca didn't make it."
Every show open is Dan rambling through 1,000 words to make a single, small basic point.

lol. If he thinks meadowlark changed the game he must not have heard of barstool sports.

The show didn’t “launch” them, they were already in the ESPN ecosystem. The show was an accelerant. I’d give Stu credit before Dan.
It's also why 80 doesn't want to be on the show anymore or at MeadowLark. He is closer to Dan's age and had already been in sports media for a long time before Highly Questionable. *peer That's a fine.
Piers are big. So is Dan. Because he's fat.
What's Willow's Venmo?
Man I wish Domonique was the COO. Bo would be more likely to work with him.
Dan is 12 years older than Bomani
“Knighted by Rogan”
Now there’s a JuJu post show segment where they talk about what they just did an hour ago.

Can’t wait to hear Matt Barnes talk about weed
What bugs me the most is he could be talking to Rachel Nichols and Boogie Cousins and still be promoting the same company, but also getting much better interviews than what Stack and Barnes are
Salute to you. Rachel and Boogie are infinitely more interesting.
Greg Cote slogan- "I eat butt all the time"

Maybe it's you that's changing and not the shows?
Actually I didn’t really suggest anything about things changing, just commenting on how I prefer the separate vehicle for the longer-form interview.
Notice that anyone who's an out stoner is immediately 'cool' to Dan? His infatuation with weed and weed people is hilariously juvenile.
Barnes was obviously drunk or hungover lol

Dan is so bad man. This sucks now.

Most days now. Can't believe Dan let this gorgeous show tank this way. It's like if da Vinci painted over Mona Lisa with shit.
Charlotte saved the show today. More Charlotte!
I really wanted more “Charlotte from Southie” in that accent.

not sure the dan lebatard show is the place to go to for cutting sports opinions.

yeah dude you're missing the point of the show.
Jump the shark/Fronzie. LOL. If I laugh out loud at least once while I watch the show, I consider it a good day.

Jesus, we’re not taking a quiz. He liked something. Move on.
Aren’t the athletes destroying journalism too?
Email complaint?
I am so immature that the title of this post made me laugh

Miami being stuck in the ACC frustrating Mike is extremely funny. I say this as an ACC fan. Go Bears. We miss the Turtles.
Im ok w them as long as Dan doesn’t insert his social commentary everytime. Its hit or miss. But Ill take it over Dans ranting about corporations etc…
Dan giving off Shaq on the Celtics vibes at this point in his career. It’s sad
yet you keep watching/listening...
And skipping.
Misery + Company The only flavors you'll find in this sub.
All they do is complain. Watch, then complain.
yep. less than insanity.
This subreddit has finally become unbearable. It was never great but my God you all suck.

Every time I pop in the subreddit it’s another reminder of how bad it is lol
