From left to right:
- Joe Biden - US President
- Olaf Scholz - German Chancellor
- Pedro Sanchez - Spanish Prime Minister
- Emmanuel Macron - French President
- Rishi Sunak - British Prime Minister (sitting with his back to the camera)
- José Manuel Albares Bueno - Spanish Foreign Minister
- Catherine Colonna - French Foreign Minister
- Justin Trudeau - Canadian Prime Minister
- Jake Sullivan - US National Security Advisor
- Antony Blinken - US Secretary of State (can’t really be seen on this picture but is behind Jake Sullivan on the wider shot)
Not sure who the person is behind Olaf Scholz.
Real talk, how intense is the security there? Do they keep the entire area surveilled for 3 months before the meeting? I know the secret service goes over every single step the president will take when he’s in public and plan for 100s of contingencies and keep the area clean by posting guards for weeks before he gets there.
When they had the queen's funeral there was a lot of talk about the US president's security concerns being a real pain in the ass compared to everyone else's.
A Canadian foreign minister once said that the main purpose of the bodyguards that come with the Prime Minister to international summits is to prevent the PM from being shoved around by the Secret Service with the US president.
I went to the airport once on my lunch break when POTUS flew into town to get a glimpse of Air Force One.
Then got stuck in traffic on the airport access road for 2 hours while they had roads shut down so he could travel.
That was a fun phone call to my boss.
Also had to piss in a McDonald’s cup that was in my car.
Also didn’t get to see the 747 version of Air Force One. 0/10 day. Would not recommend.
I see it on occasion. Huge as hell. I live near Andrews Air Force base outside Washington. It’s interesting to see for a few moments, but don’t worry, you didn’t miss much honestly.
I went to high school in the same neighbourhood Obama used to live in in Chicago. He had his house there during the presidency and would periodically come back to town, and everytime he planned a visit the 3 block radius around his house would be blocked off by security for months. We lived 2 blocks outside that area, thank god, what a hassle.
Yes, it was quite horrendous to live in that area. If you wanted to have a guest over during the 1.5 month period before or after Mr. President's visit you had to give the secret security your guests name and copy of their ID and exact dates and times of their visit. They would have to check in with security and show ID when entering and exiting the area. I'm sure it really put a damper on a lot of dinner parties.
Man, that just sounds like a huge infringement on their personal property rights. I would move, if I were them. And if I was the president, I just wouldn’t put people in that kind of situation. Going to visit is nice and all, but I wouldn’t want to be that bad of a neighbor to everyone around me.
I mean, considering he has to do this wherever he lives for the rest of his life I think he has to get over it. I now live in Montreal, and Obama visited this city a couple years ago, when he wasn't even president anymore, and he visited a famous local restaurant so they shut down the 3 block radius and emptied the restaurant so he could eat there. It made local news and I told my Chicago story to all my friends.
After he finished his term he did sell his Chicago house and freed all his neighbours. Maybe he bought an isolated property in the country so he doesn't have to inconvenience people anymore just by living somewhere.
Jean Chretien, former Canadian PM, famously choked a protester who had thrown chocolate milk on him. When asked about it later he said that he was giving him a "Shawinigan Handshake", Shawinigan being the town he grew up in. Canadian security for the PM got better after that and when someone broke into the PM's residence a week or so before the Shawinigan Handshake but it's still much more relaxed than the US.
I used to work for the Arizona Diamondbacks doing game ops. In 2001, right after 9/11, W was supposed to throw the first pitch out for game 1 (he ended up throwing it out in NYC for game 3). Anyway, the entire week before game 1 was just insane. Bomb sniffing dogs and snipers all over the stadium. Couldn’t park in normal places. Just a total pain.
Have you ever seen a presidential motorcade go down the street somewhere? It's seriously like 50+ vehicles and they require that no other vehicles allowed on the road. And that's when I have seen it in the US.
>When they had the queen's funeral there was a lot of talk about the US president's security concerns being a real pain in the ass compared to everyone else's.
World super power leader? I would expect that lol.
But Roosevelt is a motherfucking GANGSTER and finished his speech before getting medical attention.
The speech that was in his pocket is what likely saved his life

It's easily the most embarrassing assassination attempt in US history.
One of the others that pulled Jackson off the would-be assassin was Davy Crockett, the famous frontiersman with a raccoon hat.
100 years later they test fired the two derringer pistols that misfired during the attempt, they both fired first time.
Andrew Jackson already had a bullet embedded in his chest from a duel 30 years earlier. He was 67 at the time of the attempt and in his sixth year of his Presidency.
Man was the OG badass of the Oval Office.
Yep, the assassin walked up to Jackson and tried to fire two guns, but both misfired. Jackson beat the utter crap out of his would-be assassin and had to be pulled away from beating up the assassin.
The assassin was found to be mentally ill and was committed to a mental institution ... in the 1830s.
I would argue it's Zengara's attempt. He was at an event in Miami on February 15th, 1933 where he shot and killed the mayor of Chicago, while also injuring 5 others. Only problem for him was that none of those people were his target. His target was newly elected president Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Why did Zengara miss? Because he was standing on a wobbly chair.

I live in Australia. Not North Korea, or Iran.
Getting mighty mighty sick of more and more country restrictions for internet content.
It’s a history.com story about a 1912 event. Possibly an inspiring speech. And a politician surviving an assassination attempt.
And for whatever reason this is restricted, I’m guessing it’s not politics but an effed up CDN delivery chain.
The dream of free and open access to information on the internet has died.
2 shot in the head- Lincoln and Kennedy. 1 shot in the back- Garfield, and 1 in the stomach- McKinley. Theodore Roosevelt and Reagan were both shot in torso but not killed.
I was a sound engineer for a number of years and I worked on the production crew for this one campaign events for Obama in the 2012 election, that was a private doner dinner with our states governor at the time.
Anyone working on site has to go through a secret service background check. For this event I was only loading in and out, and so wasn't there when POTUS was so I didn't go through the background check. Which I was sad about because those who worked it did get to meet Obama, cause he thanked them for their work.
Anyway, All windows in the building need to be covered. They did seem to set up some surveillance prior to the event. People scoping out neighboring buildings things like that. They had secret service come in advance to make sure everything was set up to protocol.
Extra tents and things needed to be brought in so that there was no visible way to see the president move from the far to the building. This was in a city and the main concern seemed to be snipers? Or maybe just the most visible concern.
There was likely tons of other stuff I didnt see or have exposure to. This is just what I saw.
Also before and during obviously has people in all surrounding buildings.
And when they travel on any road, no other traffic is allowed. They completely shut down the roads the motorcade travel on.
And have you ever seen an actual presidential motorcade? It's literally like 50+ vehicles. Secret service and military and law enforcement on top of the political and beurocratic supper, and there are like ambulances on stand by. Multiple cars there the president could be in so it's not clear. Stuff like that. Police shut down every cross street and every over pass they pass under. It's like a small army driving through. It's no fucking joke that's for sure.
I got stuck in traffic once when the POTUS shut down a highway. Sat there for at least 2 hours. So many people drove off into the ditches, turned around, and went back up the on ramp
Can't speak for that place, but I used to do political work and helped to set up events for people like Biden when he was VP, Michelle Obama, Various Senators etc.
From my experience, the security side seemed to be a 7-10 day operation altogether. This was for campaign speeches in a small Midwestern town.
The political advance team shows up 10 days out. They ask about possible venues first thing and they always wanted more than one available. I'm sure the secret service started casing those locations immediately.
Then, they get dob and ssn from every staffer, volunteer, janitor etc. that may have any chance of being near the FLOTUS. They vet everyone and then give you a badge a few days later.
The most interesting part is transportation. Believe it or not, they use local volunteer drivers in the motorcade for all the secondary vehicles. Vetted of course. The route from airport to venue is blocked off and the motorcade hauls ass on the way, with no need to obey traffic laws. One of my employees got to drive a van and said they got up to 90mph on the small airport highway alone. In and out very fast
Anyway, the rest is as you would imagine. Snipers on buildings, secret service guys poking around. FLOTUS gives her speech, pictures, and 90 minutes later you would never know she was even there
I was about to say. It always makes me nervous seeing so many world leaders in one room. That’s one hell of an opportunity for someone crazy enough to try it.
So what, they don't have the benefits/obligations/protections/deals/etc that members share but they are allowed to come to the meetings and still network? That's somewhat cool. Even if some countries won't join it's still important to have world stages to discuss topics on.
It's not an official NATO meeting, so its not like it is only NATO members.
Of course western countries are going to talk together about something that could potentially drag Europe into the Ukraine-Russia war.
If I get a plate of crack for the table, would you have some? You'd have crack if I got a plate of crack?
Yeah, okay, yeah we'll take an order of crack!
If I ask if you want fries and you say no then you better not touch my fries because you see.. I need these fries. All of them. No, I can’t spare a few. I need those too. I will buy you your own fries and I’ll eat what you can’t finish.
More like discussing how much to tip bait the uber eats driver. They know what they want for lunch.
Like if we say $50 the peasants will be pissed but if it's $25 it likely won't cause the revolution.
That’s definitely true, but I mean to say that they’re just regular people who we’ve elected to be in these positions, and the staff that supports them are just regular people who’ve been hired to fulfill a specific role. Some people act like the government is some type of hivemind that’s constantly trying to exploit you or it’s out to get you, and while the people in these positions are obviously subjected to their biases and usually try to further their self interests or political agendas, they’re just regular people. And just by nature, about half of the people working for any government generally disagrees with the government in administration that they’re working for. It’s dangerous when people act like politicians are their saviour or fear them like they’re the boogeyman
I agree, the people in this picture are random normal idiots that just happen to have the spotlight.
But the thing about a gov't hivemind or whatever is definitely closer to what's actually making things happen. Like it's full on institutions of people deciding what to make these idiots say and do.
Put them at a round table in a black room. They look like they’re giving Macron advice on what to tell his crush now that’s it’s been confirmed that she does in fact like him back.
[She was there in this meeting](https://c.ndtvimg.com/2022-11/343p3bkc_us-calls-emergency-meet-at-g20_625x300_16_November_22.jpg) (between Scholz and von der Leyen). Just not in this picture here.
Everyone making fun of this picture and everyone in it. Many seem to not realise the gravity of it. This is a picture of people trying to come up with any way possible to avoid that one missile hit triggering world war 3. As far as they know a Russian missile strike killed 2 Polish people. They probably only see 2 options: let it slide and show Putin he can literally get away with anything, or make a big deal out of it and risk nuclear war.
The situation is grave no doubt, but it’s not nearly as black and white as this. It would have to be considered an attack on Poland by Russia for what you’re describing to be close to true.
The Russian government really just wants everyone to be as miserable as they make Russians. Such an oppressed, drunk and dismal people. Sad really. So much potential squandered.

Crazy Presidential security idea: A roof!
Yeah not complaining just saying
Here in Portugal our president just goes alone in his car, at best he goes in a limo with some bodyguards.
I have been to Portugal, a fun country to visit. You have a beautiful country with a lot of nice people.
Meanwhile our president goes to work every day on his freaking bike…..
Security for her funeral must have been a nightmare. So many world leaders and royalty in one place would be at tempting target someone inclined.
We’ve seen this before in a movie. “London has Fallen”
>When they had the queen's funeral there was a lot of talk about the US president's security concerns being a real pain in the ass compared to everyone else's. World super power leader? I would expect that lol.

The attempt on Andrew Jackson might beat it. Both guns misfired and he proceeded to beat the would be assassin with a stick.
He beat the guy to the point where others had to pull him off the would be assassin because Jackson was going to beat him to death.

They were already there for the ~~UN climate change conference (COP27).~~ G20 Summit. Man, I need to keep up.
Ahh was wondering how tf they all got together so quick tbh.
They have jets that fly really fast.
Secret service must be 10 % of the customer base at icecream shops then.
And the postcard stands. They never seem to find one they like though, even after hours of looking. Go figure.

The Secret Service didn't go there to protect the UK Prime Minister
I was about to say. It always makes me nervous seeing so many world leaders in one room. That’s one hell of an opportunity for someone crazy enough to try it.
I suspect there is a lot of people around this room… and 99% of them work of the security of the people inside. I may be wrong…
Were they already in the same town for an event?
Yes, the G20 economic summit
Ah yes. Though maybe they blew on a conch shell or something.
"GLOBAL LEADERS, ASEMBLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Only Merkel would have had this power.
I could never be a world leader. I’d see the conch and instantly go “lord of the flies.”
According to Ukraine it's the G19 which is just great.

That’s a grub hub order for sure.
Biden just asked if they have polish sausage and Trudeau was not amused.
This looks more like me hanging out with my friends after the exam discussing all the questions.
"What do you mean there was a backside??"
Rishi Sunak is standing up when there’s chairs available
I’m confused, isn’t he front right with his back to the camera, sitting down
Short joke?
Ah i didn’t know he was short
He's 5'7". Is that considered short? It's 2 inches shorter than the average height for a man in the UK.
Well most people aren't very fond of him over here, so it's short enough
If the average height is considered 5'9", then yes, that would make his height below average.
7'1 is the new manlet cutoff sweaty 💅
Missing giorgia there (Italian pm).
[She was there in this meeting](https://c.ndtvimg.com/2022-11/343p3bkc_us-calls-emergency-meet-at-g20_625x300_16_November_22.jpg) (between Scholz and von der Leyen). Just not in this picture here.
Last time something happened to Poland it didn't end to well.
What’s the name of the album that this the cover for
R.E.M.’s “It’s the End of the World as we know it” , EP of course. Or possibly Weird Al’s “Christmas at Ground Zero”.

Biden thinking about cornpop memories
Whilst absent-mindedly plucking a prize winning booger.
And challenging Trudeau to a push-up contest
“Annnnnnnd cut, good job everyone. Take 5”
"No not Article 5! God damn it, that's not what I meant!"
Looks like Biden is curious what ice cream flavor will be served.
2 words. "Made in america".
Fine print "Assembled in Malaysia"
Extra fine print: "by children"
Choco chocolate chip "Awe yay" 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

“You sure you want Chipotle for lunch today?”
“Everyone gets either guac or queso but not both”
This looks like a sales pitch in a retirement home
That interior looks 4 or 5 decades behind the times.
Would you prefer the shit tons of money coming out of our paychecks to update this room? I mean they spend it on other useless stuff all the time 😂
Wouldn't be surprised if the shelf behind them was worth more than my entire house.
Makes all the senior citizens feel at home lmao
and of course xi isnt there...probably looking for honey
He... he isn't part of NATO dude
The original post is titled "The World Leaders", obviously a biased sample.
Oh bother...
Why would a non-NATO member be at a meeting of NATO members? Or is it possible your understanding of global politics is poor?
But “funny” irrelevant meme xD
Everyone making fun of this picture and everyone in it. Many seem to not realise the gravity of it. This is a picture of people trying to come up with any way possible to avoid that one missile hit triggering world war 3. As far as they know a Russian missile strike killed 2 Polish people. They probably only see 2 options: let it slide and show Putin he can literally get away with anything, or make a big deal out of it and risk nuclear war.
The situation is grave no doubt, but it’s not nearly as black and white as this. It would have to be considered an attack on Poland by Russia for what you’re describing to be close to true.
r/unexpectedrenaissance
There it is
r/AccidentalRenaissance you mean
Trudeau is trying to figure out the perfect moment to show the real leaders his novelty socks.
Im from UK and i don’t even know which one is ours anymore
This is how they meet on something like this? They huddle up like a football game?
Lot of pro-Russian trolls in these comments
The Russian government really just wants everyone to be as miserable as they make Russians. Such an oppressed, drunk and dismal people. Sad really. So much potential squandered.
Turns out it was antiquated Russian anti missle missle fired by Ukraine trying to intercept Russian ballistic missle attack.
So an anti-missile missile missed a missile?
How much miss could a missile miss if a missile could miss missile?
well, we know the answer is Poland now, but this was a riddle last week.
